Hey friends, Caitlin here, former 2nd and 4th grade teacher (miss those kiddos) who is now living the dream with ClassDojo! π I work remotely from Anchorage, Alaska where it is currently 8 degrees!! #dojochat
Hi everyone! I am Amanda Haskell, a Kindergarten teacher in Arizona and your #dojochat moderator for today's chat. I'm excited to talk about #NewYearsResolutions and #goalsetting!
Hi I'm Caitlin! I'm currently living in Orange, CA attending Chapman University. I'm studying elementary education with the hopes of teaching lower elementary. #dojochat
I am Jen Ellison, eater of chips, and Teacher of the Technology Design Lab at my K-5 school. I let kids play with @Sphero all day today. I'm in Northern CA #dojochat
A1: My personal resolution is to focus on me. I often focus on making others happy and worry about how others view me. It's time to start working on making myself the happiest I can be! #dojochat#gettingreal#deepthoughts
A1 Well, . . . I'm kind of a NON resolution type, but I do set INTENTIONS -- I have set my intention to be consistent in my health routine. Last year I would go to the gym 5 mornings one week, and then NONE the next week. So far, it is going ok . . . #dojochat
A1: My personal resolution is to get outside more. I really wanna make use of my time in sunny SoCal as I plan on moving back to my hometown of Seattle after college. #rainydays#dojochat
A1: My resolution is to start taking small day trips on the weekend with my dogs to have more "Me" time. I feel all I do is eat, sleep, and work. I need to learn the power of saying the word "No." #dojochat
A1. More personal time. Iβm going to redo one of my rooms to help with that. Our school is also doing 6 one week challenges the 1st is to incorporate more water! Love how our principal supports us! #dojochat
A1- CONTINUED, also, if I stay consistent with the exercise thing, I can EAT MORE CHIPS. Actually, working out keeps my anxiety and stress level at a functional place so it is about my mental health #dojochat
Would love to recommend book #balancedteacherpath by Justin Ashley. Awesome but frank and telling of former NC #TOY that struggled with substance abuse #dojochat
A2: My one word is growth. I love the quote, "We cannot become what we want by remaining what we are." -Max DePree I want to grow as a person as much as Alice grew in Wonderland! (Okay, maybe not that big.) #dojochat
A3: My school resolution is to be more intentional. I think as educators we all have our own routines we are set in (like that one craft we do EVERY year). Instead of sticking to these activities because I like them I want to ALWAYS focus on my students specific needs. #dojochat
A3 SO, this year I started counting the days -- which keeps me 100% focused n my LIMITED time with my students. Today was day 81. What have they gained from spending 81 days with me? #intentional#dojochat
A3 I also put it on the board - so my students KNOW I'm always counting the days. I've asked them often, "What have you learned? What skills do you have today that you didn't have on day 1." #dojochat
A3- While I'm not in my own classroom yet, I want to continue to grow my network of fellow educators and get better at interacting with this ed-communitiy on all of my social media platforms. #futureteacher#dojochat
A3 to great my students with positive words and smiles as they come in when they leave and as many times in the middle #dojochat give them time to calm down and reset as needed
A4: I want to become more aware of my students specific needs (emotional and academic) and interests. It's really important to know the WHOLE child. This week I am sitting down with each student 1-on-1 and "interviewing" them. I am loving it and learning so much! #dojochat
It took me a while to do this and now it's seriously the best PD ever. Plus you get to sit on your couch in your pajamas and learn from some of the best. Social media can also be SO overwhelming. It's really finding that balance. #dojochat
A4- Great Q! Every resolution must have an action step! @eastfieldglobal T leaders providing embedded #PD that colleagues attend. Each month PD focuses on a strategy to use that month in the classroom focused on student to student #interactions and T is facilitator #dojochat
A4 My usual system for making sure I do stuff is to tell folks about it -- that's why I put that number on my board. If I forget to change it -- I've got a couple of 4th graders who will LET ME KNOW #dojochat
This is huge! I visited @ronclarkacademy last year and saw how they eat lunch with their students every day. This was eye opening to me, and I try to do it as much as I can now. #dojochat
I told my kids that I want to exercise more this year. Now they ask me EVERYDAY for full on details of my workouts. They are tough, but motivating. #dojochat
A5: I am going to pick a few students each week to reach out to and make a stronger connection with. This could be playing a game with them at recess, sitting next to them at lunch or just having a conversation. My accountability piece will be tracking it in my planner. #dojochat
A5 I use my lovely #bujo habit tracker. There is something about filling in those little squares that causes me to keep on doing the things I need to do #dojochat
Q5- I have already started a journal. In this journal I will write 1-2 new things I learn about my Ss each week. Ideally I would like this to be a bigger number, but I will start small. #dojochat

A5- for our school wide commitment focus we are tracking observations from walk through data using @Google#forms and I share out the circle graph that shows content interaction between S-T or S-Content or S-S about every 5-6 weeks #dojochat
A6: When it comes to school, my teammates! Also my family is always supportive of my goals and dreams. I really live for encouraging words and support. #dojochat
A6: #dojochat personally I rely on my hubby or close friends for accountability. Professionally I use my instructional coach! She's great to help with goal setting and ideas!
A7 I do NOT do resultions with my students as their homeroom teachers usually do. We set goals all the time -- especially with my one section of reading. We are tracking our scores over time, and our ability to read SILENTLY #dojochat
A7- As part of our Reader's Workshop, we set goals as far as how hard we will work, what we will read and how long. The Ss also set goals when they take part in PBL #dojochat
I have found that it can be really difficult to approach teammates with concerns about their goals or commitments. It's important to keep each other on track, but hard to approach the issue sometimes. Any tips for making these conversations easier? #dojochat
A8: I am actually planning to make a bulletin board THIS WEEK to help track our goals. Looking for all the ideas here! I want to make it Incredibles themed to go in my Disney classroom. #dojochat
A8: #dojochat we have a goal setting section in our reading journals. We update in small groups or tough individual conferring. I need to be more consistent with updating them!
A8: Well, now I wish I was in my classroom so I could take a snap! I've got our class averages for our reading unit assessment WHICH HAVE STEADILY INCREASED!!! we went from 19% to our latest 87% and YES I memorized it -- because it was amazing! #dojochat
A8 Ss have graphs in their #datanotebooks and 2nd-5th plots points to represent each assessment score from #ELA and #math they only work to compete with their own performance! Its not made public #dojochat
Thank you @mrshaskell213 for kicking off #dojochat 2019 with a wonderful chat π Join us next Wednesday, January 18th and be sure to invite your #TeacherBFF π
