A group of dedicated educators gather each week to discuss best practices & designing the school of the future. @yankee_todd is a third year principal of the middle school in San Antonio. #neisdpln is an amazing hour each Monday night at 7:30 central time.
@MichelleHaider1 and I are on the back porch by the pool but who is in the house tonight for #neisdpln ? Let us know your favorite end of year theme song as you introduce yourself.
My dad was an educator and it was just something I always knew I do. What keeps me here is my librarian job. Love being a resource for students and teachers #neisdpln
A1 My algebra teacher inspired me and i wanted to be just like her! I stay for the kids... because they need champions and someone to make them feel loved and safe in the craziness. #neisdpln
I was studying to be an engineer when my mother voluntold me to teach CCD at my church. Fell in love and the rest is history. I stay because I know that one person can still make a difference in a kid's life. #neisdpln
A1: Think of Marisa Tomei in “My Cosin Vinny” when she talks on the witness stand about mechanics. Same here, but with teachers. I stay because of my colleagues and because of how hilarious 8th graders are! #neisdpln
A1) Hi everyone, I'm Andrew McBurney, the Social Studies Dean at Roosevelt. What got me into education is a love of learning and the belief that teaching is the most important job there is. What keeps me in is the kids, and same belief about teaching. #neisdpln
A1: I was inspired to be an educator by kids, of course! I have never regretted it and after 20 years in the business, I am more passionate about my profession than I have ever been. They inspire me everyday! #neisdpln
A1: In high school I took a class called ready, set, teach and fell in love with teaching! The kids keep me here. I couldn’t imagine not having a job in education. #neisdpln

A1: I caught the teaching bug working summer camp at SeaWorld. I had so much fun getting kids excited about science. I went back to school to get my masters with a science certification.
And my favorite end of the year song.... hmmmm..... "Hot Fun in the Summertime," by Sly and the Family Stone. (Although a newer song, "Summertime," by the Mavericks, is a close 2nd.) #neisdpln
A1: almost everyone in my family is an educator or in the military. I don’t look good in army green so the choice was clear. I stay because I love my coworkers. And I love technology #neisdpln
A2: Just be there for them! Realize that we are all in it together; we all have our good days and bad days. Students come and go but your teacher tribe will always be there. #neisdpln
A2. I ask myself this every day. As a leader I need to be present for the teachers (I don't always do a good job at this). Be a sounding board and good listener. #neisdpln
Q2: collaborate. Share. Validate. Help each other and be about each other. Understand we’re all busy and have lives outside of work. The more we assist the easier it’ll be for all. #neisdpln
A1 The amazing college advisor I had @HamlineU that encouraged me to share my love for learning is how I got started. It’s the kids and dedicated teachers @LasLomasLIM and in @NEISD that inspire me to do more and to be even better! #NEISDpln
A2: For my colleagues, being in the moment for them, listening to them, helping them, challenging them to be the best they can be, and be a source of positivity! #neisdpln
A1: I was the kid who struggled in Math all through school. It was hard, and after I graduated HS I wanted to become a teacher to give confidence I kids no matter where they excel. #neisdpln
A2 I like to be held accountable by my colleagues; ask me where I am at with my goals; challenge me with new thinking and perspectives; I like to support colleagues by listening, collaborating, and pushing together our tables at Principal meetings! #NEISDpln
I came into this because the bio-chem premed experience of seeing sick kids, just wasn’t for me. I wanted to help kids but in a healthy formative way. #neisdpln
A3) Their engagement. Now, how to get them engaged? Help them to understand why what they're learning matters. "Why do we have to learn this?" may be annoying at times, but it's honest, and we ought to be able to answer it. #neisdpln
A3: Part 1 of this answer is similar to A2: be there for them, listen, communicate! We all have good and bad days. Build trust. Some days we just need more time with them, less teaching. #neisdpln
Q3: patience knowledgeable. Loving, tolerant , and stern. I need to know my kids beyond the class and show genuine interest so they know I’m here for all parts of them not just their academics. #neisdpln
Know ”the rest of the story.” Know what the child experienced at home. What they like and don’t. What they deal with on a daily basis. Empathize, but empower. Didn’t I say that already? Make deposits into them. Hear them. Know them. Most importantly, love them. #neisdpln
I stay bcI love the kids! I am in awe I get to have fun while having the most demanding job (aside from Ts)...I’m being slimed, collaborating with Girl Scouts who have found their voice, dance in the halls, hear student authored stories... every day is a new adventure!#NEISDpln
A3 I need to know the kids by name, by their siblings, what they do outside of school, recognize their parents by face, know who they like to play with, where they like to sit in the cafeteria....I need to feel they know I know each of them as individuals. #NEISDpln

A4: The ability to foster relationships with both students and adults in the school, flexibility- because we all know how education changes, and dedication- when you first start teaching you have to know that your job doesn’t stop at the end of the day. #neisdpln
Honestly, admin work practically all year long. If we aren’t fully staffed, we do that during the summer. No rest for the wicked. But if I really had to say one thing, it would be attending graduations. So nice to see a fulfillment of sorts. #neisdpln
A5: Slide shows!!! They come to me looking like toddlers and leaving looking like kids. It’s so bittersweet... You see their growth and feel happy, but know they are growing up and that makes me a little sad. #neisdpln
A5: I don’t really have a tradition in my classroom. We do whatever interests the kids. Last year we made bottle rockets and launched them on the football field. They LOVED that so maybe I’ll continue it. Make it my tradition lol. #neisdpln
A5) The reception for our summa cum laude grads, where they get to honor the most influential person in their education. Many pick a high school teacher, but a lot pick a middle school or elementary teacher, or a family member. It's a wonderful event. #neisdpln
A5: the theme days the last few days. Coloring, playing games, drawing with the kids and showing them how I’m treasuring our last days together #neisdpln
A5: I truly only say goodbye to my 5th graders. Love the Philosophy Books we do at the EOY to wrap up our learning. In these books there is so much learning, growth, tears, and laughter. A special keepsake. #neisdpln
Gotta run. Thanks for allowing me to throw my two cents worth. I hope you got a dollar. So proud of my Wildcat teachers who are always growing. #neisdpln
Slideshow at end of the year award ceremonies, such a tear jerker so much maturity happens in just a short year, love to remember all the memories we shared! #neisdpln
A5: EOY traditions include sharing a great breakfast with my colleagues, reflections of another great year in education, and celebrating with @fruiz1208! #neisdpln
A5: in elementary, I did a final countdown throughout the day. We popped a balloon every hour and did a fun activity. First year in MS this year, so ready to make a new tradition! #neisdpln
A1: The compassion and patience of my 2nd grade Tchr, Mrs. Whitely, and the excitement my freshman English teacher brought to her class. The Ss keep me in. The thrill when they finally "get it." #neisdpln
A6: Spend time with my family. Their support and encouragement lift me. The lessons I learn from them continue to shape me (wife, mother, daughter, aunt). #neisdpln
A6: I sleep in a lot at first lol. Around June 24th, I watch my favorite movie and start thinking about ways to improve on the year before. I start with fun things for me and then by middle of July, I’m working on anything new I want to try with my kids. #neisdpln
