A1: we’ll soon be running power so I’m glad this is question 1. Main point is to hug line of scrimmage. Don’t get into backfield or else that mesh is toast. Throw the elbow and get moving big dog. #hogfbchat
HSSocialMedia : RT CoachShiffman: Many prayers to CoachDingus as he deals with the loss of one of his coaching friends! Much love heading your way Jack, so sorry for your loss. #Hogfbchat
A1: Kicking out that EMOL. I want that guy either A. On his back or B. Blocked into the sideline. That center needs to handle that nose, to open up a cutback lane for the Arab #hogfbchat
A1: keep shoulders square to the line, skip pull (I allow my kids to use 3 different variations of the skip pull), make sure to clear the down block. If you get numbers, breakdown and shoot hands, if you get profile, use surface and run through. #hogfbchat
A1-Skip pull, keep shoulders square to LOS, be able to touch PST ass when you run by. Treat it as a kick out block once you pass the PS Double. FINISH! Looking for the Pancake. #hogfbchat
A1) I teach skip pull, so push hard off of inside foot and drop the outside foot back. Locate your LB and keep your shoulders square. Come right off of the blocks in front of you and run feet through contact with LB. #hogfbchat
A1) Get a pre-snap read of your target, keep shoulders square, stay tight to combo block (steal their wallets, no space, however you want to phrase it), finish through your target #hogfbchat
A1: we used to pull line counter. Last couple years it’s been more like a quick shuffle pull to get into the hole. Kind of depends on the athleticism of guards. #hogfbchat
A1:we square pull can either “whip” outside leg behind inside or shuffle, whatever they are comfortable with. Soon as they begin pull start scanning for target.Dont pop up get lateral,be able to work around trash. Hopefully there is none as playside DL becomes a corpse #hogfbchat
A1: throw play side elbow to open the shoulder and get hips toward target. Pivot back foot, get eyes up and get your eyes and hips pointed at your target. #HogFbChat
A1: I don’t teach the skip pull, I coach a “shuffle” where we are back on an angle on our first step, shuffle to the PS with our shoulders square and eyes on our assignment. Have to be able to see without tunnel vision, because we have to insert when we get a lane #Hogfbchat
A1: ID LB, Torque PS knee, skip pull, read first solo block outside of combo for Chest or Butt, this determines where pull will fit up to 2nd level #hogfbchat
A1) 1. RUN! 2. Gain depth in backfield to get shoulder square to LOS. 3. Eyes inside expecting ILB inside on top of PS wall. 4. Run through first defending you see. 5. RUN! 6. Chicks dig pulling G’s. #hogfbchat
A1: Guard will take a pull step to execute a Lead pull with banked shoulders around the #1 defender on the line of scrimmage to the second level on an isolation block on the first linebacker to the playside. #hogfbchat
A1L One of my coaching points to a freshman was to play the piano. Keep a hand close to the hips of the line so they don't veer off. Got to play the piano,. #hogfbchat
Skip pull so you can have visions target, 1st step depth from backside foot slight crossover, shuffletight off combo or fill first day light, stay square on attack of LB and give RB two way go #hogfbchat
A1: we started to skip pulling and loved it. Make sure you are staying square to the line and keep your eyes on the linebacker. When you make contact fit’em up, get into the steering wheel and drive your feet #hogfbchat
A1: we teach a skip pull technique to keep our shoulders square, and hit the hole down-hill. We encourage them working to second level knowing we read the PS DE so we give them freedom (and drill it as well) to hit the first wrong color jersey they see #Hogfbchat
A1: Skip pull, get a little bit of depth, keep shoulders parallel, strike a match off the butt of down blocks, apply violent force thru the ground to get down hill
#hogfbchat
A1: keep shoulders square and scrape the paint of your OL. Our OL coaches tell them they should literally try to scrape across their OL while staying square. #hogfbchat
A1: I have taught skip pull for years. Main coaching points
-Get depth away from the LOS
-Clear the trash (get past the downblocks)
-Re enter the LOS SQUARE
-Hit the first thing you see
-No color get your eyes inside
#hogfbchat
A1) If we’re not getting into pull style/technique preferences I usually start with “Be an Awareness Guy.” Key your LB, don’t tip your pull, eyes on LB through the pull, & feel the PS combo. #hogfbchat
A1: Gain ground with your first step. Stay square, Stay Low and arrive with a bad attitude. Important to know the angle of the play side LB. #hogfbchat
A1: This year we are going to be teaching our guys to open up to gain depth on our first step, get eyes on the PS LB, and hug the double team to work up to the LB. #hogfbchat
A1: To stay square and "find your luggae"! Find your luggae means wherever that LB fits you fit! If we are pulling and kicking we guy by the rule pull right/hit right, pull left/hit left( Talking about DE shoulder #hogfbchat
A1: take two flat steps then skate step on the third to get depth! While taking steps watch Linebacker then watch for the last Downblock keep it tight off their hip Seal the Backer if possible if not wash him outside! Maintain Contact Run your feet! #hogfbchat
A1: Eyes on target pre-snap. Get a read on the situation. Clean up the hole if needed. Tight punch when you get there. Have enjoyed watching shuffle pull film this offseason. Skip pull is what we’ve used. Open to changing. #hogfbchat
Coaches, it seems like a lot of you like the skip pull technique. Do you find your Guard getting too deep into backfield? Do they tend to rise up and lose leverage? Interested in learning more... #hogfbchat
A1: Skip pull, get a little bit of depth, keep shoulders parallel, strike a match off the butt of down blocks, apply violent force thru the ground to get down hill
#hogfbchat
A1b: I know I’m the weird guy because we don’t skip, the reason for that is the small chance we get blown off the ball and hit our puller with his feet crossed, shuffle gives you a chance to keep a base and have fighting chance against instant pressure #Hogfbchat
A1: Skip pull, has to be ballistic, explosive out of stance. Stay square, outside leg whips behind inside leg (think carioca) eyes on target. Work inside out. #hogfbchat
A1) cont…depth is 🔑. Also used to teach shoulders square to the LOS. I’ve started more towards squaring your shoulders/hips to who you’re pulling to. Ends up usually being one in the same on most power runs (besides some 1-back variations). #hogfbchat
A1) If we’re not getting into pull style/technique preferences I usually start with “Be an Awareness Guy.” Key your LB, don’t tip your pull, eyes on LB through the pull, & feel the PS combo. #hogfbchat
A1: find your backer pre-snap, gain a little depth on your skip pull to avoid garbage, hug double team, re-load hips and square up backer, run your feet through contact. #hogfbchat
A1: We start our teaching the old open and break the glass, and progress to a skip pull. To me you’ve got to do what each individual kid can have success at. We have some guys that can’t grasp the skip pull. #hogfbchat
I find that my guards are still able to stay low. They don’t get too deep because I only allow them one step to clear the down block and stay tight. It’s all about what you stress. #hogfbchat
Coaches, it seems like a lot of you like the skip pull technique. Do you find your Guard getting too deep into backfield? Do they tend to rise up and lose leverage? Interested in learning more... #hogfbchat
A1: I prefer the skip pull, but I want kids to be comfortable and play free. I think when you teach the progression they also get to feel the differences makes to skip pull. #hogfbchat
A1: coaching points, to stay tight to line of scrimmage I tell them to “slap butt” as they pull, feel the down blocks to stay tight. Eyes on the LB, don’t worry about finding the “hole” to pull thru, the LB will guide you to it. #HogFbChat
A1: I want the BSG pulling fast and flat to LoS leading up behind the wall playside guys have built, eyes peaking inside for, then looking upfield for SS. IF we don't create wash, the MB'er will be there following #hogfbchat
A1. Bring your hands and drive. Too often guys are content with just hitting a guy and thinking they did a good job executing their block. Gotta be able to lock in and drive him out of the hole. #hogfbchat
A2 trap aim through Cs ribs run righ through aiming at PSDT inside shoulder. counter open flat aim for Inside shoulder to kick out if he closes log it and bounce outside #hogfbchat
A1: (also) coaching points added if we are running buck, read block of playside puller (log/kick). Understand your block could turn into a double kick if playside target runs out of play. Again, don’t chase, replace. Big punch, accelerate on contact. TRY to be simple #hogfbchat
A2: same as A1 but add in make sure you’re tight to your downblocks and you’re attacking the inside/correct shoulder of the guy you’re pulling to #HogFbChat
A2: get into the line of scrimmage, basically replace the Center, guard and tackle. If you pull right hit with your right shoulder, pull left you hit left. Don’t stop until you break glass. #hogfbchat
A2: pull INTO the line. Pull right, trap with the right shoulder. Pull left, trap with the left shoulder. No trap side is the guide hand to prevent the wrong arm or spill over the top. Stay low and explode at the point of attack, while maintaining control. #hogfbchat
A2: Start the lawn mower and your 2nd foot should replace the second foot of the center in order to stay tight to the line. Again pull right, hit right, pull left, hit left(shoulder) #hogfbchat
A2. Open pull strait down the line. Attack near shoulder and run through the defender. Kick the EMOL out hard. Make him think about it every time he fires out. #hogfbchat
A2: open and run low... stay tight to line... pull left hit with left shoulder, pull right hit with right shoulder... u are a cannonball and they don’t think after they are fired they just blow up whatever they hit. #hogfbchat
A2. Throw that inside elbow back, eyes down the line, pull into the line, same shoulder to same shoulder aiming point. Then as beast mode says run through a mf'ers face. #hogfbchat
A2: In trap, that BSG needs to GOOO!!! Once he reaches that 3 tech, he needs to punish him. On counter he needs to do the same as he would for a power. Physicality is key. He needs to assert his dominance over the defender #Hogfbchat
A2- Check mark pull. ✅ Drop playside foot and get back to the LOS. Stay low and explode on contact. Punch through the body and FINISH! Looking for the pancake!! #hogfbchat
A2: Stay flat and tight to your OL. We want a kick block so work inside out. As he is coming down the line he is looking for end to squeeze if not then he will work out to the end. #hogfbchat
A1- We use skip pull. Most important point we talk about is Gaining pec leverage, and running through the defenders pec. Power RT LG would put RT pec on defenders RT pec). #hogfbchat
A2: Start the lawnmower with arm to get proper angle with first step. Get back into LOS with second step and get head upfield on kick out block. If DE squeezes log it by wrapping him back inside. #hogfbchat
A2: get into the LOS, with young guys, I like to work on a line so they can see themselves getting into the LOS. When you get there, near shoulder into the hip and dig it out. #hogfbchat
A2: get on the tracks. Pull into the line. Contact should be made in “their yard.” Start the lawnmower. Attack on the angle. Pull Rt, Hit Rt/ Pull Lt, Hit Lt #hogfbchat
A2: trap path through C’s hip, drive through the PS # of DT. Counter isn’t as tight, same aiming point. Both try to displace near shoulder/hip. Aim small, miss small. #hogfbchat
A2: Bucket step, align hips down the line, arrive with bad intentions. Doesn't have to be a blammo shot, just have to displace the guy enough for the back to run through the hole. Blammo shots are fun but rare. #blammo#hogfbchat
A2: Drop step and point toe towards the outside foot of the defender he will trap. Rip inside arm through inside hip. Arrive with some juice. Rinse. Repeat. #hogfbchat
A2: Open pull, head needs to be on upfield number to kick out, if DE is behind LOS and spilling log and drive into the wash, keep him on the other side of the LOS. #hogfbchat
Open your hip up throw the elbow back and gain ground on the second step. Attack the inside number of the defender and don't be soft and get spilled #hogfbchat
A2) 1. Run our of stance at 45 degree angle trusting C will be gone. 2. Bury shoulder in hip w/head in hole. run through 3. Similar to FB trusting his path through A-gap, PSG must trust his 45 degrees and know that something will show. No looking, only feeling-RUN. #hogfbchat
A2: make sure you’re tight to your downblocks and you’re attacking the inside/correct shoulder of the guy you’re pulling to. Keep feet moving and create a wall between you and the defender #HogFbChat
A2) Gain ground on 1st step (eliminate wasted movement, false steps), pull into LOS, steal wallets from other OL, stay low, hit with playside shoulder i.e. pulling right hit with right shoulder. Of course sometimes you may have to log squeezing DE so work that too #hogfbchat
A2) I teach a kick pull, shoot your play side elbow back to open hips and square shoulders to target. Tight off of PS blocks. Shoot hands and run feet through contact. #hogfbchat
A2) Honestly, haven’t done a lot of that in recent years. A slicing TE/H on inside zone has been a great alt to counter for us in a primary zone scheme. 1/2 #hogfbchat
A1- We use skip pull. Most important point we talk about is Gaining pec leverage, and running through the defenders pec. (Power RT LG would pull and hit the defender RT pec on defenders RT pec). #hogfbchat
A2. Start the lawnmower the way you're pulling. Keep the arm tight to the body. Attack through the line. If they come upfield, head in the hole and hit with forearm and progress to hands. If they log, flip the hips and pin them inside #hogfbchat
A2: Step to the hip of the center. Work into the LOS to root out the 3 tech or DE depending on the play. If the DL tries to wrong arm work to the up field shoulder to log or pin inside for the play to bounce outside. #hogfbchat
A2) cont…When we do trap pull it’s always been short & sweet: Tight/Flat down the LOS. Inside out the first off color. If not, log ‘em back inside…violently! 2/2 #hogfbchat
A2) Honestly, haven’t done a lot of that in recent years. A slicing TE/H on inside zone has been a great alt to counter for us in a primary zone scheme. 1/2 #hogfbchat
A2 if it’s a short trap-I teach the BSG to take a 45 degree step gaining ground through the hip socket of the center. Pull right hit with right shoulder. Must master the step first. Main thing I want is kids who won’t turn their head on contact. #HogFBChat
A.2 open pull, throwing the playside shoulder out the way, aiming to the inside v if the neck/inside shoulder. Running through your target and don’t let him cross your face #hogfbchat
A2: drive off outside foot and throw inside elbow back to open hips. On contact place outside hand on inside # and inside hand on inside arm pit. Most importantly at contact run your feet. #hogfbchat
A2: Trap - Get there NOW (proper footwork). Get there SQUARE (hips/shoulders sq to target.) Play THRU the trapped DL (don't go for the kill shot - The big hit will come naturally if you play through the DL). Counters - it depends #hogfbchat
A2: press off backside foot through the ground to gain ground with first step. Very key to focus on pressing instead of stepping. Stay tight to LOS. From there it depends on if a team is wrong arming or closing on trapper. #hogfbchat
A2: curl the toes in your outside foot to explode on your first step. Break glass with your PS elbow and pull into the LOS or at worse down the LOS. Aiming point near hip Pull right hit right and vice versa, keep your eyes up and bring some action to the party 💥#Hogfbchat
A2: Get downhill now!!! Finish on their side of the LOS, and between the defender and the ball. Be prepared to log if they squeeze/wrong arm.#hogfbchat
A2# con’t: tech crank the lawnmower o open and gain ground, stay tight it’s far easier to turn out than in, contact on kick out hat in inside, I use a road cone/cylinder for pullers to run through as I hold it dangling #hogfbchat
A2: Point the inside foot down the line and scrape paint off the OL. Inside out, head in the hole. The first step has to be somewhat of a drop step as it opens and points so they have a wide base. Don't want it under the body. #hogfbchat
Post with bs foot for depth, open and go. Pull right hit right pull left hit left, run through the man and as you do explode through him with your hips and hands. #hogfbchat
A2: Trap= Replace Center, if they hit center then Center is at fault for not getting movement. Counter= Flat down the line. Kickout or log depending on how end reacts. Aim right hit right. #hogfbchat
A2: counter,/trap=attack upfield shoulder of dl, so you have to gain ground into the los. Deliver blow with hands and roll through. Like throwing haybails all day. #hogfbchat
A2: if running counter - bucket step, attack upfield shoulder, with playside shoulder (pulling right right shoulder) work to kick, log def. hard inside. If running trap - play side shoulder on upfield shoulder. Destroy that young man. #hogfbchat
A2) eyeball trap target when you get to line. He isn’t going to stand still. Get flat and fast on th pull, get ur head playside to seal at contact. #HogFbChat
A2)
Throw inside elbow to open hips
Step into line, gaining ground
Scrape ass with inside forearm
Load hips, drive outside shoulder into breastplate
#hogfbchat
A2: “Horn Pull”—looks like a check mark. Throw the PS elbow, drop PS foot open hips to target, plant and drive off that first step, arrive angry for the surprise party. #hogfbchat
A2: can’t be soft on trap or CTR. You gotta bring it.. our “buzz” phrase is pull left hit left or vice versa (meaning hit with the same shoulder of the direction you’re pulling) Stay tight to the line and aim for the defenders hip #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A2 received the "live" call from playside tackle. "roll the dice" drop step, Sprint through the upfield shoulder of the edge Defender tagged
A1: Pull”into” the line. Your C/G double needs to get movement so the BSG has the best angle and timing. Keep looking inside to track whatever LB we are working to. #hogfbchat
A1 stay square and run don’t be slow in the hole. Young kids look for playside backer then run. Eventually they learn to arrive early find him late. #hogfbchat
A2. First and foremost know from preplay call who your target is head inside finish drive thru on contact block till you hear whistle don't let up #hogfbchat
A2: cont: Coaches what changes for y’all trapping a 1 Tech vs 3 Tech? We try to avoid trapping 1 Tech so all of our Traps are called to 3 Tech at LOS. If double 2 Techs then we can go either way, mostly away from our better puller so he is the one doing the trapping. #Hogfbchat
A2 hang tight to LOS to take away any gap blitz and attack upfield hip of kick out man. Need good first step. Trap out of the flexbone needs to be very quick upfront #hogfbchat
Violent elbow to open up, pull flat, even a little up field and run through defender with “wrong shoulder” that way if you miss he has to go around you. #hogfbchat
Last year, we switched to moving the OLine back. Helmet at centers hip. Pulling guard uses a crossover step first to gain ground into LOS. Explode through contact/defender. To me crossover step helped with having better angles.#hogfbchat
A2: Attack upfield shoulder if we are kicking out. If you are the 2nd puller (if TE motions over to kick out), same rule applies as BSG on power, pull “into” the line, head inside, and turn upfield 1 gap wider #hogfbchat
A2: Trap Pull rip inside arm stay tight to the LOS explode through contact leading with your out side shoulder. Pull Right-right shoulder, Pull left-Left shoulder this way defender has to go through your body to make a play at worst we get a wheel block RB adjust... #HogFBChat
A2 Step at a downhill angle make sure we hit with Correct Arm and Shoulder;we fight for inside position if defender squeezes (we can’t get inside hip then we push him vertically! Player can’t squeeze and play upfield !!!so easy to push a squeezer vertically! #HogFbChat
Never skipped while playing but wish I had. I teach skip because it keeps shoulders square and makes it easier to pick up run thru and keep eyes on PS LB. #hogfbchat
A3) I like skip pull better. The depth keeps them out of the wash, the square shoulders helps them identify the LB quicker. I have kids that can’t skip, so we still teach them to open pull too. #hogfbchat
A3: I prefer the skip. A traditional pull on power requires too much movement (turn the hips/shoulders while taking initial step, gain ground on the pull, hug the down block, turn shoulders to get through hole). Skip is clear down block and get up field, no turning #hogfbchat
A3: I prefer the skip pull BUT we still teach both. We start out with the traditional and progress to the skip. Some kids pick it up quicker than other, and some feel more comfortable doing traditional. #hogfbchat
A3: I’ve gone away from traditionally skip as I feel it prepares these pulling guard to deliver a blow using correct leverage. In the past if sometimes felt like guys would turn the corner tall and couldn’t apply correct leverage through the ground. #hogfbchat
A3: I like the skip pull just because our kids had a hard time pulling and finding the LB. the skip pull allows us to see the LB the entire way so we can get on him NOW. #hogfbchat
A3 I think both have their advantages. Curious to see what everyone thinks. I think roll with whatever the player is comfortable with and gets the job done #hogfbchat
A3) I prefer traditional pull just simply on the fact it’s more what I’m comfortable teaching. I also feel like we lose too much depth with the skip pull but I know the coaches that do the skip pull don’t feel that way. For me it comes down to preference. #hogfbchat
Love the skip pull. It feels like the get around quicker and get ready to read the spill or box technique by the DL/OLB. Puts your guy in the best place to make a decision. #hogfbchat
A3. Skip pull, to keep your eyes on your target, staying square while swabbing the double team displacement block, and the ability to scan inside to outside while getting downhill! #HogFbChat
A3: Skip pull. The players prefer it. Easy to coach, allows them to keep eyes on target. Most importantly, it allows them to wrap tightly around the double team and work inside out on LB. #hogfbchat
A3: typically depends on the defender they are pulling for and where he is. We run plays where we have to do both. We’ll run plays where the 1st puller traditonal pulls and the 2nd puller skip pulls. Lastly, it comes down to what the guys can execute the best. #hogfbchat
A3: on our sweeps we do traditional but on power I let them choose what they’re comfortable with. Whatever they can get moving the quickest doing #HogFbChat
A3cont: required. The skip also allows our players to get eyes on backers without having to turn to see where they are pulling. I just feel that it keeps it simple for our linemen. #hogfbchat
A3: Skip pull for sure. Much easier to keep shoulders square when wrapping up for an LB. We teach the skip but if for some reason a kid isn't comfortable with it (which is mind boggling, be an athlete) he can go old school and step step plant go. I hate that method. #hogfbchat
A3: it depends on the player. If a kid is good at the traditional pull I'm not going to ask them to skip pull and vice versa. Not gonna ask a fish to walk on land #hogfbchat
A3: skip pull allows our kids to stay square to the LOS and insert quicker. Previous years we had too many instances where OL athletes were running past the hole and not blocking anybody #hogfbchat
A3: traditional. I really dislike how the skip pull causes players to get too high. I've coached power -- a lot and at different places -- and traditional pull never lets me down. Also does well if linebacker presses LOS, almost becomes a kickout #hogfbchat
A3: Skip Pull. Allows the blocking scheme to develop more before arrival. Also, it makes it easier to keep eyes on defender. Easier to work with double team and combos. #HogFbChat
A3: I like the traditional power on pull. Gives the guard a good running head start and let’s him gain some momentum. I do not mind using the skip pull but only when I have quicker guards. #hogfbchat
A3. Skip pull. My guys stay square and have eyes always on their backer. We come through the hole with violence. Just have to coach them to not raise up right out of their stance #hogfbchat
A3- Skip pull. It allows my guys time and really makes the LB wrong. On traditional if you turn up to early or to late it can mess the play up. If you skip takes the mental part out for my guys and turns it in to a 2nd level kick out. If LB wrong arms then it’s a log. #hogfbchat
A3) This should be an interesting part of the discussion! I might be showing my age 😏 but I’ve only ever skip pulled as a player and as a coach. It’s easier for depth and to locate lvl2 defenders. But I think I’m going to sit this one out and enjoy the responses. #hogfbchat
For power it’s skip pull all the way. Allows you to hit the hole faster and effectively make your block. Can also make sure you still have a pull if somebody else gets blown up #hogfbchat
A3: I prefer skip pull to givw yourself the vision and sift through any trash that might get in the way. Plus easier to keep shoulders square. Mainly what most other people said #hogfbchat
A3: I’ve gone away from traditional to skip as I feel it prepares these pulling guard to deliver a blow using correct leverage. In the past if sometimes felt like guys would turn the corner tall and couldn’t apply correct leverage through the ground. #hogfbchat
A3. We don't skip pull. Teach the old school open and go. We pull so much in wing t that teaching one pull step saves time and we can get great at doing it one way. #hogfbchat
A3) Skip pull- More vertical on play side, keeps eyes on point of attack and keeps shoulders square. Less wasted movement means more successful block and less chance of ILB run-through in hole. #hogfbchat
A3. If you have solid guards who can get to linebacker easy it is great to skip pull to get shoulders square and body in good position when pulling #hogfbchat
A3: I prefer shuffle pull because it keeps shoulders square without crossing their feet, out of those two I prefer traditional pull because it’s more natural, keeps you lower, and as long as you can turn your head and run, you can see when you need to get back square #HogFBChat
We are going to the skip pull this year as our guards had a hard time getting eyes on PSLB, and would run to far outside before turning upfield no matter how many times we practiced or preached it. #hogfbchat
I actually give my kids the option, and when I played I didn’t cross, I shuffled. Same amount of time, covers same amount of ground, and I was more comfortable with it. #hogfbchat
For coaches who like the skip pull I totally get keeping the shoulders square but what if you have a player who isn’t could spend a lil more time in the weightroom than on fortnite, is strength a concern? #hogfbchat
A3: Ultimately it will depend on our guys and their comfort and ability. I would like to have them skip pull but will incorporate a mixture of both with an open bucket step to LB run to keep shoulders square in order to fit up into the hole. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A3: neither. We shuffle pull. Shoulders stay square and eyes on LB. Keeps us tight to LOS. Guards lining up on center's belt makes this possible.
A3 prefer skip pull if the guard is athletic enough to get off the ball quickly-I like it bc it keeps the shoulder square and he can insert as soon as he clears the combo. If kid can’t do it I teach more of a bucket step for depth and then shuffle the feet to the hole. #hogfbchat
A3: We use Bucksweep so to keep from having multiple techniques we choose to keep it simple one way to do both and be really good at that one way! #HogFbChat
A3: start with skip but if pulling to TE/Wing side I let my guys open pull if they feel they can get to POA better. Issue becomes the 18 wheeler turn when guys aren’t ready to get around 2nd double. Stresses importance of finding your LB first #hogfbchat
A3: traditional. I really dislike how the skip pull causes players to get too high. I've coached power -- a lot and at different places -- and traditional pull never lets me down. Also does well if linebacker presses LOS, almost becomes a kickout #hogfbchat
A3: Skip Pull-teach the kids to keep their shoulders square, have their eyes on the linebacker and have the ability to run down field and be aggressive #hogfbchat
A3: I prefer the traditional pull. Nothing against the skip pull, but the traditional pull marries up more with our counter and screen game. #hogfbchat
A3 prefer skip pull if the guard is athletic enough to get off the ball quickly-I like it bc it keeps the shoulder square and he can insert as soon as he clears the combo. If kid can’t do it I teach more of a bucket step for depth and then shuffle the feet to the hole. #hogfbchat
Cont: I worry about athleticism at times. Getting too much width not enough depth or the other way around. Have to load that inside leg and get a great first step. #hogfbchat
A3: Skip pull for keeping shoulders square and vision possible. Next level blocks aren’t easy, so we need to use every advantage we can get. #hogfbchat
Q3: Do you prefer the skip pull or traditional pull on power? Why or why not? A3: prefer skip Pull helps keep shoulders square to LOS rep it rep it and rep it again!! #hogfbchat
More of a whatever feels comfortable on the Skip for each player after repping it a bunch. Initial coaching point is shove off inside foot hard and try to stack outside foot behind it. #HogFbChat
Yeah, I never heard of it until I started working where I am now. Keeps things simple and if you miss the defender has to go around you instead of falling into the play. #HOGFBCHAT
A.3 Traditional, unfortunately probably just cuz it's what we've always done, truthfully I am more concerned with the puller getting their and violently finishing the right guy, biggest problems usually FS blocker setting inside wall w/downblock #hogfbchat
A3: BSG pulls flat, 90 to LoS then becomes square again when leading. I want power to hit fast. If my playside guys can't wall off their down blocks and create wash, we ain't running pwr. I do see the logic in the skip pull however. #hogfbchat
Can we all agree that SQUARE, SKIP & SHUFFLE pulling are all the same technique? The whole point of the pull is to enter the whole square to the target. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A2 receive live call from play side tackle, after pre-snap read. Bucket step, roll the dice, pull flat to Edge Defenders upfield shoulder. Destroy.
A3 Skip pull. 1) Eyes can stay on ID LB the whole time, 2) Quicker guard is inserting on 3rd step and never has to turn shoulders, 3) I think if forces the guard to hug the tackles down Block more. #hogfbchat
A3: skip pull, but can honestly that all depends on what you’re running (In my opinion) EX: Slot T, skip pulling may take to long to develop compared to how quick it hits. Running power out the pistol, skip pull is great gets shoulders square, easy to locate defender #hogfbchat
A4: If I ever have a DUDE at BST or center then HECK yes. And that’s something we will gameplan and practice. I haven’t personally have used this yet #hogfbchat
A4 haven’t yet with the center-don’t think I ever would pull the BST not sure how the timing would work. Looking forward to these responses. #HogFbChat
I'm always intrigued by pulling Center, but too concerned about the snap to attempt it. We'll pull tackle on Dart and GT Counter but not on power.
#hogfbchat
A4: we have pulled Tackle with an odd front because window was really tight for G. Also have pulled C when guard was slow and center was best puller/athlete. Definitely game plan decisions. #hogfbchat
No. Only change we make to pull scheme is we will pull C instead of BSG on Counter Trey depending on front. We just give it a line call and rep it in group run and team. #hogfbchat
A4: YES! BST can pull if there is a stud 3 tech on the backside that the C can't get to or the BST can't get inside leverage. Tackle will give a TAG call to guard alerting him of the change #hogfbchat
A4: Depends on the kid playing T or C. Also depends on the front we are seeing that week. We rep everyone pulling/double-teams in our step progression each day so the install is minimal. Have different names for different double teams so we know who is pulling #hogfbchat
A4) In my world if the BST pulls it’s no longer Power. From my experiences that changes to Tackle Trap, although that’s just semantics. I’m not against my OC pulling but only on Buck Sweep-type plays. Interesting question! Looking forward to the responses! #hogfbchat
A4: I’ve been toying with pulling Center on counter similar to how Clemson does. It all depends on how good we are at Center, if he can back block a 3, which if he’s good he probably can, I’d rather pull the guard and open that lane a little wider #hogfbchat
A4: we will for the most part always pull the guard.. if there’s a bs 3tech that’s a tough block for the C so we will have the BST slam back and give a hand on the 3 #hogfbchat
A4: We have pulled the center on counter when we are playing certain fronts. To me i like pulling the tackle just to change it up from the traditional power. Run the Dart #hogfbchat
A4- I won’t pull BST, but I will pull C if you give me a 3 tech backside and he’s a player. I have the guard cut and pull the center. For us it’s a BOOMERANG call and that just switches responsibility. C makes the call if he can’t get back to him. #hogfbchat
A4. I have personally never done it, but when running power to the shade it makes sense to fill for tackle with the guard on the 3 based on angles and pull the tackle. Penn State did it in the Rose Bowl last year and broke a big one. #HogFbChat
A4: We don't pull the center on power but we will pull the BST if we feel like he cannot cutoff the end. It's more of a gamelan thing and we have a certain tag on the play that tells OL who should pull. #hogfbchat
A4 haven’t yet with the center-don’t think I ever would pull the BST not sure how the timing would work. Looking forward to these responses. #HogFbChat
A4 is someone has video of them pulling the tackle I'd love to see it. I think pulling the center can be effective if he's athletic enough to get there #hogfbchat
Have considered pulling BST and may try to toy with it this season. Would definitely help out if we were playing a really good one tech. Would also allow us to run power tighter if we wanted to #hogfbchat
A4) No, especially don’t pull the center, we had enough issues with just getting the snap in a consistent spot, I’m not going to muddy the water for him by making him think about where they need to pull as well. #hogfbchat
A4)I had never done this until last year. Our OC wants a double on the POA, so whoever has the easy down block backside takes it. Whoever the last man on LOS will ultimately pull. Haven’t pulled the center much due to athleticism. #hogfbchat
A4: not under center. From people I talk to, it impacts timing. Why change rules when the play isn't broken?
From gun, not as sure but probably won't. #hogfbchat
A4: Haven’t done it for power but have done it for lead/iso, we actually double folded it with C and BST and read backside DE. Also working pin/pull for outside zone. Gotta work C pulling during pre practice snaps and BST gotta get on their horse to get there #hogfbchat
A4. Anytime guards are hard covered and center is not they call "Chariot" that tells center he has the pull. Communication can't be stressed enough to me it's why I say OL need to be smartest guys on field. #hogfbchat
A4 haven’t yet with the center-don’t think I ever would pull the BST not sure how the timing would work. Looking forward to these responses. #HogFbChat
A4. No. Have to many other plays to worry about getting going. Don't like to get to carried away with power. It's God's favorite play, why mess with prefection. #hogfbchat
A4) Have pulled tackle, tackle communicates he can’t get d-line cut off, so they switch roles T open pulls for timing. Have pulled center in practice for counter against 4-3 and Bear that I learned from Kromer that he did with @EWood70 when he was with the Bills. #HogFbChat
Q4: Will you ever pull BST or your center on Power? How do you rep or communicate this? A4: never have pulled C on PWR but have pulled BST vs Odd Stack everybody reps skip Pull and KO daily and it same path for BST as GT #hogfbchat
Q2- bucket step and lock on inside peck of DT. Screws and hands make contact. Some people have already mentioned pull left, hit left... same idea. We did have some success bypassing the 3-tech but once it got on film, we didn't see much of it anymore. #hogfbchat
A4: not under center. From people I talk to, it impacts timing. Why change rules when the play isn't broken?
From gun, not as sure but probably won't. #hogfbchat
A4: It depends on personnel and the DL. It varies year to year but mostly the answer is no. Don’t add more schemes. Get better at the Original. #hogfbchat
A4: No doubt, if we have a 4 or 4i or whenever we feel like our center can’t get back on a defender. We make a “GUT” call between guard and tackle. We work a pull drill with all OL working bucket and skip pulls. Coaching points same for BST as they would be for BSG #hogfbchat
A4: Have pulled BST and has some success running power this way we liked running it to the low shade. Can be difficult getting the angle you want or taking care of the DE without reading with the QB or blocking with the TE. #hogfbchat
#a4 been looking at stuff from Coach Murphy in California he pulls both backside Guard and Tackle Wraps with Both on Power!!! kicks with A Sniffer back! He does some amazing stuff! With Power Play! #HogFbChat
A4: (cont.) I should note that we run power schemes out of the gun (single and split back) and pistol so you have time to pull the BST. But also a big fan of just running IZ... #hogfbchat
Additional question for you guys: When pulling the BST on counter trey, how do you like to teach that? Skip pull or turn and run then turn up in the hole? #hogfbchat
Hey I nominate @JCrocker68 to be the next guest host. He’s one of the best around down here in our neck of the woods. Toss that idea around @CoachShiffman#HogFbChat

If anybody has any topics or questions they would like discussed on the chat please DM them to myself or @CoachDingus and we will get them on the chat #hogfbchat
I have a 2012 film cut of BFUHS 45 Counter where the back side guard hit the DE who made the mistake of turning inward he jacked him off his feet and rolled over him with the 2 becoming human tire still best trap evah! #hogfbchat
A4: we are a unbalanced spread team, so we can pull our center on power if favorable angles present themselves where it'd be better for him as opposed to pulling the guard, just tag "C" to communicate the difference #hogfbchat
Big thanks and shout out to @CoachDingus for being such a great cohost. Sorry you couldn't be here tonight, much love and prayers to you and your coaching family! #hogfbchat

Thanks all for another good week of #hogfbchat. Shameless plug to end the night - if you have any players who can get to Omaha, NE in July for the @rimfbcamp , they would have a chance to learn from some @rimingtontrophy and Outland winners!
Had a blast with the #hogfbchat tonight. I’ve been mad at myself for missing last couple weeks so I set a weekly alarm for it so I don’t forget. Thanks for all the great info guys!
I like the skip pull and the fact that I can keep my eyes and shoulders square to my target. Not against the traditional pull. I'm for whatever works best for "YOU" and get the job done. Now "do work son"
#niff#hogfbchat
No way Devin. If anyone was athletic enough it would have been you! Had you been able to, however, you either would have danced or peed a little out of excitement. #hogfbchat
