A2 I talk about digital citizenship with my students and I model by showing my own digital footprint. It is important to show students how we use it, how responsible we are so they have good role models. We cannot assume they know how to be responsible. #MasteryChat
A1: I define digital citizenship as learning the skills necessary to use technology skillfully and responsibly. This is crucial for kids because their whole world is becoming digital. We need to be sure they can handle the demands of this digital world. #masterychat
A2: we have our students do a search of themselves and see what comes up. We remind them everyone can do the same like colleges and employers. We remind them that a post, comment, and picture good or bad can be on the interweb forever.

A2. Model, model, model- we use @CanvasLMS@kidblog but thru teaching and experiences we use @Twitter - My kids tweet their learning lots so we discuss scenarios- What if’s... #masterychat
A2 Helping them see the ways YOU interact digitally. Have them be guest Tweeters on a class Twitter account. Draft emails to content experts around the world with them. Practice digital communication within tools like @gsuite, @padlet, @Flipgrid, etc! #masterychat
A2: I try to incorporate as much tech as I can and I always try to talk to them about their responsibility! Let them chat as a discussion of what is appropriate and not appropriate. #MasteryChat

A2. We talk a lot about source evaluation. One place I like to point kids is @JournoResource, from Harvard’s JSchool. Great place for background info and for journalistic standards. #MasteryChat

My ss always want to snapchat. I have discussions about what I put and don’t post. I talk about how employers will look at social media. I also talk about how some of the memes that poke fun at people coild be actual people that we are making fun of. #MasteryChat
A3) @padlet is a great tool for students to post their thoughts, share their work, record video or voice. @gsuite makes it easy for students to collaborate and learn skills needed for later #gttribe#masterychat
Seems like many of you are k6 teachers, i deal with 11,12 but i follow my students and encohrage them to follow me. If something comes up in their feeds i address it with them. #MasteryChat
A3 - SO MANY! My favorites are Padlet, Google Classroom, Twitter. All require good modeling and management for S's. Accountability can also make this easier! #masterychat
A3: This year I have had moderate success with flipgrid as a tool for engagement and conversation. My students love to sneak onto google chat lol #MasteryChat
A3-We encourage elem and ms Ts to try Biogiraffes, or FREE biographical resources in their classroom to expose Ss to the feelings and stories of other people so they can understand the similarities and differences in various cultures. https://t.co/IpWz16bXII#masterychat
A3) after the non-tech groundwork has been laid, I love @Flipgrid for students to be able to share ideas - even ones who don’t want to to be in video like it - the aim the camera down or at a picture. #MasteryChat
A3- as a student teacher I have not seen much use outside of an IPad and desktop computer. These were both used for math and language games. Would like to see your ideas
#MasteryChat
A3. Choose social media that is closed and easy to manage... Google hangouts and Google classroom are great places to begin among so many more.... Still requires guidance and patience! #masterychat
A3: I'm loving @Flipgrid because of its ease and personalization. Also, it builds a lot of the human aspects to learning that tech sometimes forfeits. #MasteryChat
A2. We talk with students about SEL and understanding their voice online. We do period X-Time chats (think advisory meets homeroom meets intervention time) @MatthewTJeffrey does an awesome job talking with kids about digital citizenship @rotoloms#MasteryChat#thatsrotolo

A2p2: I am looping with my students, so I am showing them my Twitter this year, having them create theirs next year and using interactions with them in 8th grade. Wish me luck! #masterychat
A3 LOVE @Flipgrid and @padlet! Great ways to share ideas, feelings, thoughts, etc. @GoogleForEdu is also wonderful because students can collaborate in so many ways #masterychat
The best tools dont have to be tech. It all starts with the relationships and comfort level our students have with us, with each other, and in our rooms. #MasteryChat
A3: I think Voxer can be great for teachers to use with students and for administrators to use with teachers. I am currently getting my EdS in Instructional Technology, and it is a fully online class so we engage in discussions with @voxer#masterychat#UMedTech
#masterychat A3 - I like the simple tools like email, video, and research databases. They are the root of digital life and using them to mastery is very important but I am expanding over the next few weeks to use @Flipgrid and other tools as well.
A2: Authenticity is key. It's easy for students to lose the concept of digital citizenship in the title and even some in the word "citizenship." But it's important the lessons are tied to their interactions with technology and that it supports meaningful learning. #masterychat
We’ve been debating each of these programs. We’re only going with common sense because it has built in assessments. Be internet awesome is structured for great conversations, too, though! #MasteryChat
A3 I found having the chat/comment feature on for S in GClass was a safe way to show them how to comment appropriately on discussion questions, other Ss comments #masterychat
A3 we should model various tech tools and use classroom accounts to teach them responsible use. Have a classroom IG, Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, use tools such as @Flipgrid@Seesaw Together we can build our knowledge and learn from one another. Give them guidance. #MasteryChat
A3 Google classroom and @Flipgrid . My Ss think FG is like their Youtube they love views and comments i'm trying to get them to use it for good! #MasteryChat
Q3 One of my favorite tech tools is @Seesaw, where students can comment and provide feedback to each other. @ClassDojo is another fantastic way to engage the school community through technology! #masterychat
A3: I look the question feature of Google Classroom where students answer questions, and then I have them reply to each other. It creates a safe, monitored environment where students can learn what it means to be respectful and responsible when communicating online #masterychat
A3- This is an area I would like to know more! We use Google Classroom daily and have used Padlet and Flipgrid, but I would love to know of more! #masterychat
A2 I really haven’t yet. This is the first year I have really integrated tech that was not purchased by our district. We are using @Seesaw as a class this year. So it is something that I need to start teaching them. #masterychat
Learning how to search well and sift through information they access is such an important skill. Honestly, I think it is one of THE most important digital skills they need. You can learn almost anything online- if you know how to find it! #MasteryChat
A2: It is crucial we teach student the dangers of bullying through technology. At the HS it is the single most destructive aspect of consistent tech use and is only growing #MasteryChat
A3, teacher in my district did a project where student groyps couldnt physically talk yo each other in planning a presentation, sat on opposite sides of room and communicate via @googledocs#MasteryChat
A3: For standard classwork, the Google Suite for collaboration and Trello for project-planning are both amazing and real-world practical. For fun, the Jackbox Party Packs will instantly make your room the fun place to be. #MasteryChat
A3. @Flipgrid and @booksnaps are each good examples. Booksnaps lets them comment on books and share with friends and classmates. Google classroom has some good area to begin, too.#masterychat
https://t.co/VgNP0NP2zh is excited to try Storyboards in our lessons so Ss can create their own biogiraffes, or Biographical narratives, that highlight their personal story! #biogiraffe#masterychat
In reply to
@TheresaBuczek, @justincholbrook, @StoryboardThat
A3: we have started using @flipgrid. The Ss responded to each other for the first timw this wrek to provife feedback before tsling another run at the assignment. #MasteryChat
A3 the tool really doesn’t matter. What matters is that you get kids creating something positive and teaching them the value of sharing it #masterychat
Check out @Flipgrid and @padlet! They are my go-to's for fostering student interaction. I know others use @seesaw, but I haven't had the chance yet! #masterychat
In reply to
@stevesatlaidlaw, @Flipgrid, @padlet, @Seesaw
A3: I’m finding Google Community to be is a great tool for posting questions, photos, resources, etc. that celebrate student learning & foster conversations that bring our class closer together. #masterychat
A3 We tried snapchat but Ss didn't block Ts appropriately so we saw so many things we didn't want to see....like REALLY didn't want to see...led to some talks and unfortunate consequences #MasteryChat
A3 the tool really doesn’t matter. What matters is that you get kids creating something positive and teaching them the value of sharing it #masterychat
A3: TodaysMeet is atool that can be used in or out of class, as a way for students to contribute to a discussion or ask questions. It can also be used to provide “office hours” online, for students to ask questions beyond the school day.
#MasteryChat
A4: Different expectations at home and school. I think is the biggest problem I encounter. Ss seem to think because they can watch things at home that they can do the same at school. #masterychat
A3 - Our teachers use Mystery Skype, FlipGrid, and Padlet to connect to others nationwide. These opportunities provide them the supervised practice they need to ensure digital citizenship. #MasteryChat
q4: In my neighborhood school, the obstacle is getting over fear of change. It's a very traditional school - worksheets and dioramas instead of tech tools! #masterychat
Definitely seeing a lot of @Flipgrid , I love that Ss can become more comfortable speaking, build confidence, and have access to so many awesome learning opps and connections #masterychat
A4 - The internet is a fairly open environment which can be scary for T's. Providing clear guidelines, expectations, and accountability can help this. Many limits are also placed on digital environments at the district level. Work at the BOUNDARIES of your limits. #masterychat
No I haven't yet. I'm still learning. I know Microsoft office is great and YouTube. But I wouldn't have a clue on what apps or other tools to use. I have a placement in a Model learning environment School next week so that should be insightful. #masterychat
A4: We struggle simply because we don’t have enough devices. There is also a time factor. While we all realize the importance of #digcit, there is plenty of curriculum to get through that Ts are responsible for #MasteryChat
A4: As a student teacher on Twitter, I always generate many ideas and share them with my team. Teachers on my team do utilize these resources, but I know time is a factor along with whether or not tech is enhancing my instruction. It needs to serve a purpose. #masterychat
A4) capabilities some schools have. Things that are out of your hand as a classroom teacher. Shows our need to work closely with tech coordinators #MasteryChat
A4 Access to tech for practice and fundamental misunderstanding of why we use technology in our interactions with others. Not being able to see the person you are affecting is sometimes too abstract for kids! #masterychat
#masterychat A4 - Mostly time. Figuring out the tech and then implementing it. Checking with admin to make sure I am good to use it. However Twitter and #edchat are inspiring me.
A4: I face "tech equity" as an obstacle. We don't always have the technology or devices to use some of these incredible resources. We work as a community to fundraise, problem solve, and make it happen! #MasteryChat
q4: In my neighborhood school, the obstacle is getting over fear of change. It's a very traditional school - worksheets and dioramas instead of tech tools! #masterychat
Q4: What are the obstacles with incorporating digital citizenship into the classroom? #MasteryChat A4: Not having the tech in the classroom. Also not having the skills to be able to influence a right way to use technology. #masterychat
A4: access is still an issue. Often times, school is thebonly place technology is used to learn. Or that tech is used too much. Parents don't need to text students in class. #MasteryChat
I agree with what you said and would like to add access. It is difficult to get onto some sites or platforms because they are blocked by the school district. #MasteryChat
A4. Disconnect between social and “professional.” Ss have different expectations for them inside and outside of school and fail to see they are actually connected. Many complain their FB posts about other Ss getting them in trouble. #MasteryChat
A4: Schools' obsession with blocking teachable moments. A restrictive filter on the web does not allow students to ever engage in responsible behavior (plus it hurts a teacher's plans a lot of the time!) #MasteryChat
A4: Technology doesn’t always work when you need it to. But this generation needs to be immersed in it so we can’t let these small setbacks frustrate us too much. #masterychat#UMedTech
A4: Students at the HS level are frankly addicted to the social media side of the digital world. This has a dangerous impact on bullying and overall self worth. It is difficult to balance the downside of social media with the upside of edtech #MasteryChat
A4: Ss see bad examples all around them of adults who do not use social media for the greater good. Everyone has an opinion and is fearless spreading it. Man, if social media had a negativity blocker, just think how awesome life would be. #masterychat
A4 Things move and evolve at such a rapid pace that it is difficult to keep up with all the new things. We want to support kids as much as possible. We want to have a lasting impact, we need to have those trusting and authentic relationships first. Invest the time. #MasteryChat
#masterychat A4. Some has to do with time, clarity, concerns for feedback. I work with some awesome people and this is second nature to most @rotoloms. We can work to integrate #sel with curriculum. @l_xagas has some great ideas about this. #mlem18
A4. Some Ss wanting to play games on technology and not do school work. Others wanting to watch you tube for specific things when they should be doing school work. #masterychat
A4 While having a lot of devices is a great thing, it can also lead to issues in managing them. The more devices the more opportunity for Ss to get into trouble. Constant vigilance is a must. #masterychat
A4: I think taking a risk can be hard. I took a risk when I joined Twitter, and I am grateful that @RaeHughart inspired me to do so. It is true that Twitter will not change your life, but the people you connect with will. If it is worth it, you will find a way. #masterychat
A4:
District firewalls 😂
Students that want to be silly initially Lame answer—time. I have 50 minutes one semester minus the times and time our fine arts classes are robbed for other things. (Rant)
#MasteryChat
A4: The biggest obstacle is that it’s seen as a negative, something to be feared, making many lessons about the “don’ts” (what you shouldn’t do) and few about the “dos” (how it can benefit learners). @DrKMattson#masterychat
A4. There are a lot of components in dig cit. Digital footprint, social media ethics, copying ethics, information literacy, media literacy. Hard to find time for all #MasteryChat
A4: Fear of what might happen! As a student teacher doing an end of the year decades project, a SS decided he wanted to feature John Bobbitt in his presentation. He had The porn cover up in the media center!!!! #masterychat
No I haven't yet. I'm still learning. I know Microsoft office is great and YouTube. But I wouldn't have a clue on what apps or other tools to use. I have a placement in a Modern Learning Environment School next week so that should be insightful. #masterychat
A3 I have loved using @Seesaw with my students. We are going to start @Flipgrid after break. We use @GoNoodle for brain breaks and calming down activities #masterychat
A4- First is time. Second is teaching so much of the expectations of how to use all of the technology is a way that is conducive to learning, not just a toy #masterychat
Educator and admin mindset can definitely be an obstacle. Plan in your lessons and empower your kids. Then invite others in and show it off! That is how we change perspectives! #masterychat
A4: The biggest obstacle is that it’s seen as a negative, something to be feared, making many lessons about the “don’ts” (what you shouldn’t do) and few about the “dos” (how it can benefit learners). @DrKMattson#masterychat
Anybody have suggestions for @drmollyness on encouraging changemakers? I am always a fan of Leaping Before I Look, but it isn't always that easy for many... #MasteryChathttps://t.co/YedccM1V3z
q4: In my neighborhood school, the obstacle is getting over fear of change. It's a very traditional school - worksheets and dioramas instead of tech tools! #masterychat
A4- The biggest obstacle was teaching Ss to use new technology, without losing content time; we have vertically aligned our tech skills by grade levels to reduce this issue. #Masterychat
You’ll get to the point where you k is your content well enough that infusing tech is just a matter of seeing opportunities and using it to create chances to build more engagements with kids #MasteryChat
A5 - By providing S's with a student centered environment their engagement in the learning will Increase and their likelihood to utilize resources properly will exponentially increase. Engagement = The best management! #masterychat
Definitely! Even let Ss plan and they push in as leadlearners! I always request my former 3rd graders to come teach my new Ss... super powerful! 👊💥 #MasteryChat
A4: not everything you read on the internet is true. The digital world has a tendency to take a story and as it spreads facts get changed. It's knowing that the digital community is one of many sources to fact check with other sources.
#MasteryChat
A4: Making sure the technology is working like it should and that students are using in responsibly and ethically. Many good digital habits need to be developed. #masterychat
A5 Both student centered learning & digital citizenship acknowledge the real human beings that are sitting in our rooms. They are thinking, creative, globally impacted creatures that deserve a place at the table when it comes to their learning & their world. #masterychat
A4: when I want to do something whole group but we are 2:1 chromebooks (I was spoiled last year with 1:1...and I know, 2:1 is still good!) #masterychat
A5: Creating the childrens citizenship together. Getting their ideas on What is Digital Citizenship and what they think the Do's and Dont's are when using tech. #masterychat
A5: Giving students access to tech tools gives the opportunity for them to lead their learning. BUT teachers must know to use tech purposefully so that students are engaged and they must know what tools to use. #MasteryChat
A5: Working on digital citizenship just fosters the autonomy of our students and their ability to do even more things that are student centered - now and in the future!! #MasteryChat
A5: It is important to empower our students. My students are incredible, and they have so much to offer. I was amazed when I heard about how deep they were in their @seesaw blog posts. Students realize that they do have a voice, and that empowers them. #masterychat
Q5- in NZ we are leaning toward trying to have a student voice in where they want to take their learning opportunities. As global citizens they have more avenues to explore and derive info from.
#MasteryChat
A5 Technology provides a tool for Ss to use to be engaged in their learning at their own pace. An example is @Newsela articles that I give my ELL Ss where they read at the appropriate reading level. Tech makes differentiation easier. #masterychat
A5- goes together like peanut butter and jelly! Just like all expectations, once your kids know yours, digital tools will allow your class to learn exponentially! Especially with @thegridmethod mastery learning, they learn so much more at their place #masterychat
A4 We have lacked equipment and I lacked knowledge. I have taken a ton of PD on my own this year about tech and integrating it authentically. #masterychat
A5: ISTE lists these two topics (Student Centered Learning and Digital Citizenship) in the top 10 of #edtech this year! Kids must be at the center of everything we do, because without them we have no school, no purpose, and no fun! #MasteryChat
Yes!! That and people want to make it very simply a black/white do/don’t lesson instead of taking the time to stop and listen to students’ experiences. Just like the “real world,” our digital world is many shades of gray! #masterychat
A4: The biggest obstacle is that it’s seen as a negative, something to be feared, making many lessons about the “don’ts” (what you shouldn’t do) and few about the “dos” (how it can benefit learners). @DrKMattson#masterychat

#MasteryChat
Time is always the issue for Educators. Support one another to make time purposeful in the classroom just as much as in our personal lives... planning lessons! #masterychat
A5: Creating the Ss citizenship together. Getting their ideas on What is Digital Citizenship and what they think the Do's and Dont's are when using tech. #masterychat
A5 If S's are to be given choice in their response platforms they need to have digital Citizenship skills to guide them. Choice & Citizenship go hand in hand 😀 #MasteryChat
A5 They go hand in hand! SCL is all about giving kids the tools they need to be successful and allowing them the freedom to explore ways in which they can use those tools to enhance their learning. Digital citizenship is a natural byproduct! #masterychat
A5: Vast knowledge and intellectual pursuits over practically anything are online. Now one just needs the training to know how to learn and how to discover reputable resources. #MasteryChat
A5: As a student teacher, I am early in the game, but my peer and I are planning on connecting our classrooms via google hangouts and do collaboration. I share resources with her, and she says she learns a lot from me. I am a connected educator, and I love it. #masterychat
A5: Students need to be taught how make decisions in both instead of given limitations to prevent them from making bad decisions. We need to teach them how to make good decisions when we are not standing right there. #MasteryChat
A5: ISTE lists these two topics (Student Centered Learning and Digital Citizenship) in the top 10 of #edtech this year! Kids must be at the center of everything we do, because without them we have no school, no purpose, and no fun! #MasteryChat
A5 When you put students at the centre of their learning they practice leadership. They need to learn and apply digital citizenship and as educators we can support and guide them. Have students identify their challenges and work with them to find solutions. #MasteryChat
A5a: Students in our school reached out to @CoryBooker on their own to discuss policies after learning the Bill of Rights. This wouldn’t be possible without an understanding of digital citizenship and this is the ultimate student centered learning! #MasteryChat
Love this answer because of the combo of choice and citizenship. We must provides students the opportunity to choose how to be great citizens. #masterychat
A5 If S's are to be given choice in their response platforms they need to have digital Citizenship skills to guide them. Choice & Citizenship go hand in hand 😀 #MasteryChat
A5. With the Ss centered learning is directed into areas of utilizing various apps and Ss become engaged in the activities which they are working on. They become more responsible in dig. citizenship! Less temptation! #masterychat
A5: We have to show Ss how to navigate safely & academically to find accurate information. Now more than ever the screening for fake news is essential! #masterychat
A5. If the project involves anything online, it automatically includes citizenship. Teach to cite sources, ask permission, evaluate resources. #MasteryChat
A5: We can increase engagement through #EdTech and digital communities that expose leaners to different (and relevant) audiences. We (teachers) shouldn’t be their only audience. #MasteryChat
A5: Students need to be taught how make decisions in both instead of given limitations to prevent them from making bad decisions. We need to teach them how to make good decisions when we are not standing right there. #MasteryChat
A5: There are limitless ways to open the doors with tech for students to take charge of learning and creating...which ties right in to being a good citizen online with what you learn and build! #MasteryChat
A5:model&promote the effective integration of techn and student-centered strategies to support the access, use, evaluation, & creation of information; & model, teach, & practice the ethical use of info in order to promote good digital. Creates student ownership
#MasteryChat
A huge gap in #digcit education is adult mentorship in authentic online communities. My new book from ISTE has lots of ideas to bridge that gap: https://t.co/lbCNxSAEqq#masterychat
A5 When you put students at the centre of their learning they practice leadership. They need to learn and apply digital citizenship and as educators we can support and guide them. Have students identify their challenges and work with them to find solutions. #MasteryChat
A6 - Bring stakeholders into the conversation, let them interact and participate in digital environments so that they can see the benefits! Good leaders will gladly do this for the benefit of students and their learning #LeadLAP#masterychat
A5. I think digital citizenship and student centered learning is cyclical. Ss must learn how to interact and research online in order to take control of their learning and design inquiry projects using digital tools. As they work, they must reflect on their actions. #MasteryChat
@LaurenPorosoff always tells me that I should write a book. My dream is to write about my journey on Twitter as a pre-service teacher. It would be great to look back and see the impact Twitter had on my career by being connected. #masterychat
I think that labeling digital technology as a 'crutch' is too often misguided by the technology being misused. Ss are adapting to a world that is radically changing and no longer to special needs Ss need to be limited by old school education methods.
#MasteryChat
A6: We need to invite constituents into the school to see the possibilities. Use social media to promote what is happening in schools. Hold forums and let students teach what they are learning #MasteryChat
A6 - Bring stakeholders into the conversation, let them interact and participate in digital environments so that they can see the benefits! Good leaders will gladly do this for the benefit of students and their learning #LeadLAP#masterychat
A6: It's important to show (not just tell) the community what kids are doing. When people see what kids are doing (beyond stereotypes of selfies and hashtags) they usually are blown away #masterychat
A6 I think the way to get hesitant staff to try, is by sharing the positive connections we've made using platforms like Google Hangouts/Skype and offer support to them #MasteryChat
A6 Great Q! I talk about it as much as I can, but I feel like I don't do nearly enough to help people understand why tech is such an important asset. Any ideas, #masterychat fam??
A4: I like what Brent said about different expectations at home and school. Also monitoring Ss usage during class work. I think it would be helpful for some way to be able to monitor each screen #MasteryChat#IHMarchMadness
A6: I think we have to model and then come along and show the benefit the technology will have on their students. We also need show how engaging the students become with meaningful technology. #MasteryChat#UMedTech
A6: Tech can be scary to embrace, but I think it requires a dedicated teacher who leads the way and can empower others to take that first step. My professor told me today that I have made an impact on many of my peers and professors. I am trying to make a change. #masterychat
A6 We need to change the school culture mindset. When we look at problems, we often have a deficit mindset. We need to look at the world of possibilities. Therefore, share amazing experiences, show the incredible sides, support those who want to try. #MasteryChat
Help share student voice and success stories. Check out this non-profit one of my students is working on with 19 other kids all under the age of 19. Even a hesitant educator can’t argue with awesomeness like this! https://t.co/lac4m0zYhL
A6: share how the technology can be used to further enrich academic lessons, bring new ideas, and open up a world of opportunities. Include demonstration of safe guards and ways students will learn responsible use.
#MasteryChat
A6 Take every chance to show them examples, Tweet like crazy with student work, bring students to school committee meeting for "spotlights on education", invite them into your classes. #masterychat
A6. Hold a question, answer session where kids are the teachers and can show community members the possibilities! Kids are definitely more powerful than adults! #masterychat
A6: Coach them! Help them see how the tech shows growth, helps them analyze growth, helps them grow & build rapport through engagement. Encourage calculated risks #MasteryChat
A6: Model "No Fear" technology. @westhillstigers I have tried to show them technology is not something to be afraid of. It is a tool that we can use to build collaboration. Also, using Ss to bridge that gap is a great idea, too. #masterychat
@LaurenPorosoff always tells me that I should write a book. My dream is to write about my journey on Twitter as a pre-service teacher. It would be great to look back and see the impact Twitter had on my career by being connected. #masterychat
It is where there are no desks and the children learn how they want to. It also includes a lot more tech in the classroom and a different style of teaching. #masterychat
A6. Demonstrate, model, assist. I started using @Flipgrid, demonstrated it, modeled responses/set up, helped coworkers with it. Now many staff use it. Usually it just takes time and support for the hesitant. #MasteryChat
A6: I was having a conversation with our state superintendent the other day and she made a good point. Teachers must be positive about everything in public. We are always portraying the state of our schools. You never know how is listening. #MasteryChat
A6- Use the terms "college and career readiness!" In today's society, nearly all jobs and colleges or trades require technological skills coming into them. We MUST prepare them for life in the digital age! If not us, then who? #masterychat
A6: Break down the walls and LET THEM IN! @alicekeeler is known for letting her Ps share #GoogleDocs while her Ss are working... it is Choice on our part! #MasteryChat#Nan3EDU
One of the reasons I try to incorporate a variety of technology is because I want to give Ss choice. Personally, I’m not a huge FB fan, but I love instagram. Kids have preferences, too! #MasteryChat
A6- we invite them to engage with us in sharing tech. We need to show them how beneficial tech is.
I find this link to be inspiring to me
https://t.co/DXeyioSTBQ#MasteryChat
A6: We need to model the tech for other teachers and showcase the innovative student products that are created as a result. Also, use school social media to highlight this! #masterychat
A6: Host exhibitions of learning where community members see what you do. I'm sure a lot of them will feature examples of technological prowess and opportunity! #MasteryChat
A6. Sharing successes with shareholders and community! Have Ss do presentations at B.O.E. Meetings sharing learning , voice and choice with technology and projects! #masterychat
A6: we need to share information of the positive why's and how's. Invite them in, let them see. Our Ss world is different and by not teaching or allowing us to teach in a positive manner the negative continues to be. We can all learn amd do so much more. #masterychat
A6. I think you have to address the problems/concerns that make them hesitant to use tech. Otherwise, you will never have true buy in, even after you show and model what can be accomplished. You will get "Yes that's great, but..." excuses unless you show solutions. #MasteryChat
I fear we have a deficit mindset when it comes to much of schooling. Building on strengths while supporting deficits is crucial. A one-sided approach will never be as effective as coming at it from both ends! #masterychat
A6: show examples. Ss will leave us with more skills than they would without tech. Ss are going to have technology whether we try and prevent them or not. Why not allow them to use it with us so we can teach them how to use it appropriately when they’re alone? #MasteryChat
In five years, I hope my students will be justice oriented digital citizens who connect with others to have a positive impact on the world #MasteryChat
A7 - In 5 years I hope My Students will be PRODUCTIVE digital citizens who can collaborate, interact, produce, and thrive in digital environments! #masterychat
#masterychat thank you for the learning today! I hope you'll join me and several other educators from this chat in #waledchat in a few minutes as we talk about strengths and growth areas! It is going to be a blast!
A7: In 5 years, I hope my students will be competent, confident digital citizens who use technology and what they have learned to change the world. #MasteryChat
A7. Conscientious digital citizens who find value in what others have to say, not being quick to dismiss it when it runs counter to their own beliefs. #Masterychat
A7 In 5 years, I hope my Ss will be pioneering digital citizens who lead us all into a more caring, responsive, and responsible age of interaction! #masterychat
In 5 years I hope my students will be unique, empathetic and strong digital citizens who will make a difference, share joy and kindness and who will uplift others. #MasteryChat
Q7: In 5 years, I hope my students will be proficient digital citizens who respect and consider each other and the space to which they are using. #MasteryChat
In five years, I hope my students will be justice oriented digital citizens who connect with others to have a positive impact on the world #MasteryChat
A7: In 5 years I hope my students will be confident digital citizens who grow in their awareness of the +/- of social media to influence better decision making on what they share #masterychat
Leave it to #masterychat to help me figure out a new goal. I really do want to write a book about the impact Twitter had in my life as a pre-service teacher. I would not be who or where I am today without my amazing PLN who embrace me on a daily basis.
A6:
My gut answer is scare them into it. It’d be faster. But—
It all boils down to trust and that’s hard with the hesitant folks and not always possible. There a digital they can slowly wade into. Then there are those where we need to push them in and offer support. #MasteryChat
A7 I hope my students are responsible, positive digital citizenship who build one another up and use the ever expanding wealth of knowledge out there to continue to grow as learners. #masterychat
A7: In 5 years, I hope my students will be mindful and responsible digital citizens who have help bring down the SoundCloud rappers game 🤓 #MasteryChat
A5:
I’m at a blended learning school. One component independent digital instruction, the collaborative group component also contains digital work—and that is where digital citizenship comes in. It is all about choice and critical thinking and interacting digitally. #MasteryChat
A7. In 5 years, I hope my students will be responsible and productive digital citizens who will spread kindness and make a difference in the world! #masterychat
I had a math leadership meeting and then my son's soccer game. Bummed I missed tonight, but will be back next week!! I'll have to play catch-up though and read everyone's great insights! #MasteryChat
