Q1: What first week activities do you use?

A1: I use “Find Someone Who..” questions.

Q2: Any examples of problems that “hook” the students?

A1 #1-100; bridge thickness and length experiments

A2: I am looking for examples for Algebra 1 students.

I loved using with their 24 challenges (using 3 numbers and operations to make the total 24 They had new ones every week

was fun with other classes over Skype "Are you even/odd?" "Can you be divided by 3?"

Q3: Have you used Number Talks?

Must admit that I have not used them with my classes. I have participated in PD with number talks.

Q4: How do you get students to buy in to being responsible for their own learning?

A4: It is hard for students with poor work ethics.

A4 help them find success. We were co-teaching last year and could give more individual/pair instruction.

Q5: How do you transition students to a growth mindset?

Find appropriately challenging, interesting problems.
