My awesome ESOL students wrote their own Langston Hughes "I, Too" poems about their experience as immigrants at the end of our Harlem Renaissance unit. Powerful stuff! #edchat#satchat#sschat#tlap#sstlap
Good Morning #satchat! What a great way to start the day! Lissa from GA is here with coffee in hand! (However, mine doesn't look like the one pictured!) :) I am a proud educator | author | consultant | coach.
RTI analysis with @SullCoSchools elem principals was full of JOY and HOPE. Across the board, our fight for #equity is changing the game for kids. Strong curriculum in the hands of great teachers=the perfect storm for HUGE student growth. #bam Join the movement @CurriculumMatrs

#satchat Good morning to everyone. I'm a relative newbie here. I've been a media specialist for 10+ years and am currently working on my 6th year in Ed Leadership @UConnNeag. Looking forward to today's topic!
During the shutdown, did you see the stories of how illegal immigration is hurting The USA, and the crime it produces?
Of course not!!
The media was doing stories on Government workers needing food banks, and airport drama. They did their part in helping Democrats. #satchat
G'mornn', #satchat.
Had to break out the BlackDeath Coffee bag to kickstart this day. Karl from the Jersey shore, 3-6 basic skills ELA teacher checking in. How ya doin'?

Q1: We assume people know what happens in schools so why is it important for educators, schools and districts to tell their educational story?
#satchat#satchat
Good morning #satchat. Kim from the VERY (for us) chill LowCountry of SC. Stopping to chat while I make a pot of black bean soup & 12grain bread for dinner.
A1: 🗣️If we do not tell our educational story, someone else will and it will most likely not be accurate, especially in this day and age with boldness behind the keyboard⌨️. #satchat
#satchat A1 Quite often we are so entrenched we just expect others to know our story. Big mistake. We must relate our successes on a regular basis. We must share our story with all stakeholders.
A1: To showcase the hard work and achievement of our students and our staff. Like I heard from @TheBradCurrie@ScottRRocco & @wkrakower at a workshop "If you are telling the story, someone else is. What are they saying" #satchat
A1: Stories help us uncover how our ideas & experiences inform our teaching. Narratives describe our successes and challenges. They encourage connections and collaboration and give power to their importance. Sharing our collective stories amplifies the effect. #satchat
A1 I don’t think people know what happens in schools today. They remember (or mis-remember) a version of what school was like for them, and that is likely very different than what is happening in schools currently. So, yes, telling educational stories is important. #satchat
A1 School looks different now than it did in the past. It is important for us to make sure people understand the changes and clarify why they are occurring. #satchat
A1 If educators, students, and parents don’t tell the story of education, who will, and what will that story say? Those without direct experience too easily draw from myths, stereotypes, and speculation. #satchat

Q1: We assume people know what happens in schools so why is it important for educators, schools and districts to tell their educational story?
#satchat#satchat
A1 Sharing my story literally saved me - both professionally and professionally. I almost quit teaching until I found my people. Forever grateful. #satchathttps://t.co/yCbrZO76fH
A1: something else to consider; perception is reality. Regardless of intentions, how people perceive your district is the reality you need to navigate. Telling your story promotes an accurate perception #satchat
#SatChat A1:
Assumption is wrong. Others don’t know what’s going on. Others only think they know.
We must tell the true version of what’s happening in our schools
Good morning #satchat - MS/HS Biology teacher 20+ years. I may just lurk and post my thoughts later but the topic is so interesting! I’ll thread all my responses here.

A1: It’s possible the stories of schools and students get lost in the noise of funding and politics...we tell stories of schools bc we are telling the stories of kids #Satchat
#satchat A1 Quite often we are so entrenched we just expect others to know our story. Big mistake. We must relate our successes on a regular basis. We must share our story with all stakeholders.
A1: Education has changed drastically from when the parents of our students were in school. We need to tell the story of our time, our students, and our vision for future-ready students. Share the BIG picture of performance. #satchat
A1 Assuming is different than knowing. If you don't share your story that is taking place within your campus, odds are that the majority of people in your area really won't have a clue what is happening. #satchat
A1: Stories help us uncover how our ideas & experiences inform our teaching. Narratives describe our successes and challenges. They encourage connections and collaboration and give power to their importance. Sharing our collective stories amplifies the effect. #satchat

Q1: We assume people know what happens in schools so why is it important for educators, schools and districts to tell their educational story?
#satchat#satchat
Something to consider; the differences between stories and anecdotes - @Sisonkemsimang describes stories as having a beginning, middle, and end. A takeaway lesson. An anecdote has just the beginning and middle #satchat
Are talking about telling real story or just telling the good stuff ... it seems there are two narratives ... the doom and gloom that is strike worthy and the pictures of the great thing that one group of kids did. #satchat
A1: It’s possible the stories of schools and students get lost in the noise of funding and politics...we tell stories of schools bc we are telling the stories of kids #Satchat
A1 It's entirely possible to work in a school and not know what's happening at the other end of the hallway! In district comprised of several schools, it's impossible to know all of the great things happening. We are the #primarsource of info about our schools #satchat
A1) We need to show the great things happening in our schools to share the innovation, creativity, collaboration, dedication, hard work, and successes because we're so much more than a test score. #satchat
HERE WE GO...
Q1: We assume people know what happens in schools so why is it important for educators, schools and districts to tell their educational story?
#satchat#satchat
#satchat We need to let all stakeholders know what we're doing and why. We should not let others "spin" their assumptions into something potentially negative. Build a positive reputation through ongoing communication.
A1. One prime way to get out the word about the abundance of great things going on in a school is to publish a regular school newsletter. The timing of that is up to the school principal; it depends on where such communication lies on the their priority list. #satchat
A1:People don't know what happens in schools. They know what they watch on school tv and school news, or what school was for them. School isn't "Welcome Back Kotter." So, we need to tell the story, present opportunities, and show the public. #satchat
A1: I take great pride in my students & staff & want to shout with joy from the top of the mountain. Being transparent and shining light on all the positive things that far outweigh the darkness. If we don’t tell our school’s story then others will for us!! #Satchat#WEareLakota
A1 Our story shows the many successes and struggles we have in our profession. We also can showcase the great things kids are doing at our school and how they inspire us. #satchat

How can anyone say that this is a victory for Nancy Pelosi? It isn't over until the fat lady sings.
I better be more politically correct, so I don't upset the libs.
It isn't over, until the hour glass sized woman sings.
#SaturdayMorning#satchat
A1: Most assume their experience is still true today. Sharing what happens in schools daily is crucial in building trust in the community to allow schools to grow. Also, sharing helps connect teachers & students within the same building. #satchat
A1: something else to consider. If you don’t put the takeaway from your story out there, others will fill in their own Meta-Narratives. Closing the loop on your story is critical! #satchat
A1: It is important to tell the story so that people feel connected to schools. Also, It is so important to tell the positive aspects because the negative can be so prevalent. #satchat
Good morning from CT. Today's topic may be one of my favorites. Education storytelling is so important and a terrific opportunity to raise school profile and celebrate the terrific learning taking place. #satchat
A1: We can not assume that everyone knows all of the awesome things taking place in our classrooms, schools and districts. Promote, promote, promote! And when you think you are done, promote some more! #satchat
A1 Speaking as a parent, not a teacher, people know better what is happening in the school at large then in the past, but still classrooms tend to be on "radio silence". Thankful my daughter's district @MountOliveTSD new superintendent @ZywickiR is addressing this #satchat
A1: For all of us who sit around the dinner table and ask our children what they did in school that day and get the universal, "Nothing" answer AND WE KNOW THAT'S NOT TRUE : ) ... it becomes essential for educators to tell the learning story of the day.
#satchat
The real stories of education don’t make good motivational tweets ... we have a tendency to over focus on the positive and end up creating a false narrative. #satchat
A1: We use stories to define ourselves to our stakeholders. They are a powerful tool to make meaning and sense of what happens in a school/district. If done well, they connect others to what it is we do creating a feeling that this is our school. #satchat
Are talking about telling real story or just telling the good stuff ... it seems there are two narratives ... the doom and gloom that is strike worthy and the pictures of the great thing that one group of kids did. #satchat
A1. Precisely because the public thinks they know what we do because they once went to school we need to tell the story of what we REALLY do. We need to change the narrative of a profession judged by everyone else. It's a matter of regaining professional dignity,. #satchat
Are talking about telling real story or just telling the good stuff ... it seems there are two narratives ... the doom and gloom that is strike worthy and the pictures of the great thing that one group of kids did. #satchat
I think we need to tell both. Non-educators should know all the good that happens in schools, but they also need to know it is hard work that comes with low pay and long hours. #satchat
Are talking about telling real story or just telling the good stuff ... it seems there are two narratives ... the doom and gloom that is strike worthy and the pictures of the great thing that one group of kids did. #satchat
A1: We are teachers; stories may be our most effective tool in the classroom. Not sure why we're not quite as good as it outside the classroom.
Our stories counter manufactured myths made by others eyeing public school monies.
#satchat
As educators, it is important to share our stories because we are in the lives of our students every day. We have the power to change their lives. #satchat#gen2108
So true....but how often do we get distracted with policy issues that are sometimes out of our control (not always but some)....and then our kids’ stories of really cool success gets lost #satchat
As a teacher, thankful for admins like @TheBradCurrie who seek to promote the great work their teachers who are under their charge. Be in on Twitter, or in discussions with other eduleaders at conferences as well as faculty mtgs #satchat
A1: Sharing our educational stories is important because understanding the learning environment matters. Context, mission, curriculum, students, technology. Collaboration like #Satchat is likely more effective if some contexts are similar.
A1: It's like they say about what goes on in intimate relationships - No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. We as educators need to take responsibility for our story & Speak Up!! #satchat
A1) It is important for educators/districts to tell their story because if we/they don’t, others will tell it for us! We need to be transparent & control the narrative as best possible. #satchat
A1: If you don't share your story, who does? Some believe that what's happening in school is only what they hear from others. We have to tell our own story! #satchat

Q1: We assume people know what happens in schools so why is it important for educators, schools and districts to tell their educational story?
#satchat#satchat
Your point about the internal communication is a good one. Our teachers and students are the best avenue for sharing the message in our communities. If we don't know then it will never have clarity and will be stopped before we can even get started. . #satchat
A1 It's entirely possible to work in a school and not know what's happening at the other end of the hallway! In district comprised of several schools, it's impossible to know all of the great things happening. We are the #primarsource of info about our schools #satchat
The truth should be somewhere in between. Sharing should be staff and students reflecting on what they did and what we need to do. Shows everyone is a learner. Not easy to do. #satchat

A2: 🎉Communication with all stakeholders is key, but this communication must include the celebrations of our students and educators. We do amazing things in education but rarely showcase this work outside of our "walls." #satchat
As a journalist by training, I learned the 5 Ws and the H... as well as the importance of answering “so what?” The recipient of your message should know why they should take the time to read/hear/view what you have to say. #satchat
Agreed, but it doesn’t always tell the truth ... we need to know our audience. I am never going to broadcast a kid’s strange looking project ... only the good so the school looks good. Is this false advertising? #satchat
Stories help connect families and community to the work in our schools at a much deeper, richer level.
‘Cause neuroscience:
#satchathttps://t.co/UgPDlpz8G9
One of the issues is we are telling a story that is often times not fully accurate because we are unwilling to confront certain realities. Sometimes others stories are more accurate than our own. #blindspots#johariwindow#satchat
A2: Anything and everything should be promoted in our schools. From the smallest sign of growth to the major achievements, it is all important for our communities to see. #SatChat
A2: I think we need to reflect on the stories of our learning histories to uncover how & why we teach the way we do & ensure our students varied stories’ are also honored in the classroom. When we reflect as learners, we uncover powerful practices for our teaching. #satchat
A2 Stories need to be personal, and need to be about things non-educators care about. Ss stepping up to a challenge, winning a competition, making a difference in the community or school making a difference for Ss. Not going to win hearts with improved test scores. #satchat
A1: It is important to share stories to inform the school community about changes in practice and the rationale for new educational methods. We all gravitate to what we know & people can be wary of change...we need to open a window into our classrooms & schools. #satchat

Yes! We ought to have weekly "press releases" to our BOEs, town councils, as well as parents. Stakeholders (tax payers and parents alike) should know the work we are doing - including what and why we adopt new materials, programs, procedures etc. #satchat
In reply to
@JeremyDBond, @3_DLeadership, @Sisonkemsimang
A1: it’s important to tell our story to build understanding in how education has changed and why we do what we do. We have to have pride and celebrate what we do to get others interested! #satchat
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell our stakeholders about to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
A2 Let’s tell stories about equity & justice instead of being satisfied with diversity & inclusion (or worse: tokenism & tolerance). Check out this brilliant article from @DrDLStewart on how schools appease justice-seekers and avoid real change. #satchat
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
Yes. And as a parent, I often look to see what’s changed for the better. Some are even haunted by their own school experience. Schools have a lot to prove. #satchat
A1: Education has changed drastically from when the parents of our students were in school. We need to tell the story of our time, our students, and our vision for future-ready students. Share the BIG picture of performance. #satchat
Each district, each school, each teacher, each student... they're all so different. It's important for everyone to see the big picture of what our schools are like. Telling your story and inviting them in let's them understand your strengths, weaknesses and culture.
#satchat
A1. Ts make a difference every day, but mainstream media often focus on the negative stories. Media give school leaders the means to shape and share their school’s narrative on their own terms, to highlight the everyday successes and hard work of Ts and Ss. #satchat
No. However, there are two levels of communication. The project that doesn't meet standards should be used for internal conversations about improving outcomes. The project that does meet standards should be used externally to promote understanding of expectations. #satchat
Agreed, but it doesn’t always tell the truth ... we need to know our audience. I am never going to broadcast a kid’s strange looking project ... only the good so the school looks good. Is this false advertising? #satchat
But if we are about students....don’t we want to tell positive stories. Why would we care if it makes the school look good...don’t we want that? #satchat
But what if you talk about the “why” of the project, not just end result. Then you can help parents find the meaning- what it looks like becomes less important #satchat
Agreed, but it doesn’t always tell the truth ... we need to know our audience. I am never going to broadcast a kid’s strange looking project ... only the good so the school looks good. Is this false advertising? #satchat
#satchat A1 An extension of the culture created within the classroom requires a connection to the greater community outside the classroom. Social media has become an incredible conduit for these powerful connections ... classrooms, in this way, come alive!
@BloxelsEDU
Audience is key. The definition of audience is not a group of people who are entertained; the definition is about who is receiving the message. #satchat@DennisDill
Agreed, but it doesn’t always tell the truth ... we need to know our audience. I am never going to broadcast a kid’s strange looking project ... only the good so the school looks good. Is this false advertising? #satchat
A2 I explained the "why" of an activity we did in class on Twitter (playing a board game w/out the rules). It didnt just help parents understand the point, but even the school psychologist was able to use that info in discussing my class with her students #satchat
A2: We make it a point to highlight anything amazing that's happening @RSIHawks. Luckily there are a lot of teachers who already share their story, which makes it easier to share. #satchat
A1 People assume they know all about Schools because almost everyone has been through the school system. It is important for the profession to engage with the public narrative, so the public are better informed of what our work really entails. Stories convey meaning.

A2 I think first and foremost, parents need to see that students are happy and supported in our buildings. The instructional practices, curriculum, grades are all secondary. If they aren't supported emotionally, none of the other things matter.
#satchat
A2 I think it is important to share how we are learning as a district, what is going on at PD days, how teachers are using new methods and what it means for students. I love seeing schools who share the voices of students. #satchat
A1. This is so important. I’m so done with the relentless optimism that usually accompanies narratives in K12. There’s a lot of@good in the ordinary, in the grind, and in the WORK. I’m not here to celebrate the latest photo opportunity.

Are talking about telling real story or just telling the good stuff ... it seems there are two narratives ... the doom and gloom that is strike worthy and the pictures of the great thing that one group of kids did. #satchat
A2: I think 1 important thing that stakeholders need to know is the experiences students have while learning. This includes lessons, experiments, presentations, & when they give back to the community. So much great stuff happens every day in our classrooms and schools #satchat
#satchat A1 An extension of the culture created within the classroom requires a connection to the greater community outside the classroom. Social media has become an incredible conduit for these powerful connections ... classrooms, in this way, come alive!

If we focus on our kids, our community, and our purpose, won't sound like bleating.
I get your point, though, more than a few edustars have made a living bleating.

Good morning from S. Ontario (K-8 principal) A1. We tell our stories for many reasons, e.g., so others can see and learn from what we do. But I think it’s primarily because if we don’t, someone else will. #satchat
Ha, just shared a similar point social media allows me to explain the purpose of my classroom activities to open the doors of my room for others to see that there is more going on there than just having fun. #satchat
This is such a good point. There have been many experiences of parents that have had bad experiences in schools that they went through and we are trying to rebuild trust that their child will have a totally different experience. #Satchat
A1: This may be an erroneous assumption. How are we opening up our classrooms, currently? Who knows about our learning stories? Why should we share these stories? Are we really only scratching the surface, if at all? #satchat
HERE WE GO...
Q1: We assume people know what happens in schools so why is it important for educators, schools and districts to tell their educational story?
#satchat#satchat
A2: We need to share everything, but especially those things above and beyond what people perceive school to be...trips, assemblies, positive behaviors and character ed. We share good news calls, and I often get candid with kids and parents about my own school exp #satchat
At a district level, it's a good idea to identify stories across schools, develop a comms calendar, determine best channels to reach target audiences. Also, a district that tweets, starting with the superintendent & including classroom teachers can amp up positive sharing.#satchat
A1 If educators, students, and parents don’t tell the story of education, who will, and what will that story say? Those without direct experience too easily draw from myths, stereotypes, and speculation. #satchat
#satchat A2. Break down your vision statement into categories. Check that all of those areas are being promoted. Look for big and small moments, as well as successes and areas in which you’re still improving to share. Be real.
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell our stakeholders about to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
A2: Families need information about classroom and school happenings with a few taps of the screen. This will then provide them with an opportunity to have informed conversation with their child at home #Satchat
A2) Definitely promoting your school improvement plan & the amazing work of your students and staff. Any community connections/collaborations that are happening and definitely your vision. #satchat
A2) We need to share the regular, daily activities and learning as well as highlight things like art, vocal music, band, orchestra, physical education, Spanish, English learners, special education, support services, student projects, makerspace...I'm running out of room! #satchat
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell our stakeholders about to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
A2- I always begin by asking these two questions: Who's the audience? What's the goal? That helps clarify the message. What you say to the community, is different from what you might say to a legislator. #satchat
A1, A2...A8. We risk everything when we don't tell our message.
BUT...raise your hand if you have the budget for a public info liaison or have the time to take on that responsibility consistently & well?
#satchat
A2 Somehow we need to celebrate not just academic achievement such as first in course or sporting achievement but the learning gain made by a year group, especially the Grade 12 students once they have graduated. It can be done without compromising privacy.
#satchat
A2: Don't forget the little things. The student who found a book that made them love reading. The students who worked together to help a friend. A student's pride at an accomplishment. Things no test can ever measure. #satchat
The truth is they see, often times we refuse to listen. Things others know about us that we don’t know about ourselves is an important feedback area. #blindspots#satchat#johariwindow
A2. Share the struggles that your students face and the break through A-HA moments. Give students a voice to share their own stories - the success and the struggles #stuvoice#SATCHAT
A2) Show off the many ways students are being prepared for their success. Examples of relevant learning and problem solving, the way they use tech to communicate, etc. #satchat
A2: I really think the students need to be in charge of this aspect. They're experiences and perceptions of the school are ultimately what people hear about.
#satchat
A2) One of my projects for this semester is to set up a social media intern team. These students will help me to know what they think we should be sharing. #satchat
A1: School has changed/evolved so much. What our non-educator adults think of education is mostly based on experience. Need to share the great things that are happening in our schools now #satchat
A2: Promote anything that aligns with mission and goals. Use student work, accomplishments or testimonies first. It may speak more to show the product of your educational goals succeeding after they’ve left your educational environment. Action > words. #Satchat
A2: We need to share expectations, highlight student and teacher performance, promote community engagement, and always keep a student focused message. #satchat
A2: Sharing individual teacher and student learning journeys can create mini snapshots across a school or district that will quilt together into greater message in the long run. #satchat

I have kids that do awesome things ... I also have an equal number of kids whose projects even they know are not in the same league as the great projects but they keep on working. More about process than product #satchat
A2) One of my projects for this semester is to set up a social media intern team. These students will help me to know what they think we should be sharing. #satchat
A:2 showcase student work and achievement. This can be done by inviting people into the school, putting images up on the website, or tweet about it often. #satchat
A2: Highlight engaging and innovative practices and student projects that showcase their talents and skills and voice. Promote school events and connect parents and community and highlight what a day in the life of a kid at your school really looks like. #Satchat#WEareLakota
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
A2: The positive things that need to be promoted would be everything positive that goes on in the classroom. Our students make great strides everyday. If an educator can reach a student in meaningful way, that should considered positive and should be shared. #satchat#gen2108
What if the reality is their child WONT have a totally different experience because we refuse to listen to and dismiss the stories of students and parents in our community? #satchat
The best story (when profiling a group or individual) might be success through struggle, success against the odds and highlighting the fight towards that unlikely success. So include the failures. If it works for Pixar!
In reply to
@Randy_Speck, @DennisDill, @lpijanowski
A2. Tell them about special projects, partnerships, assemblies, outside agencies working with our schools, virtual field trips, the technology were using, how are connecting across the world, careers, access to college. Shout it out and shout it often #satchat
A2: Promote good things on schools w alumni features and testimonials. Then look for any nugget of good, potential, or interest story and brand your school. This is magic. #satchat
A2: Families need information about classroom and school happenings with a few taps of the screen. This will then provide them with an opportunity to have informed conversation with their child at home #Satchat
A2: I think excellence and healthy school environments speak for themselves. The best narratives or stories are told by walking through a place and seeing, feeling, listening, experiencing #satchat
A2: Don't forget the little things. The student who found a book that made them love reading. The students who worked together to help a friend. A student's pride at an accomplishment. Things no test can ever measure. #satchat
A2 - we try to focus our communication on the Targets in our Action Plan. I sound like a broken record (what’s that my kids say), but consistency is important #satchat
A1: We get misrepresented all the time on TV shows and movies. People still believe the majority of educators act like teachers from Saved by the Bell. It’s important to share our story and showcase all the AMAZING things happening in education! #satchat
So true @ScottRRocco - A colleague of mine often sends messages home that say "Ask me about..." to give parents a starting point. I bought it was an awesome idea...I started doing something similar - e.g. "Tell your parents about your letter to an author". #satchat
A1: For all of us who sit around the dinner table and ask our children what they did in school that day and get the universal, "Nothing" answer AND WE KNOW THAT'S NOT TRUE : ) ... it becomes essential for educators to tell the learning story of the day.
#satchat
A2: I firmly believe that we need to tell all who will listen about the amazing learning experiences that happen daily in our schools...inquiry, play, discussions, celebrations, collaborative endeavours, stage performances, prayer, acts of kindness. #satchat
In my district, there's someone at each school that is acting as a news liaison. Usually an admin, librarian, sometimes a teacher. It helps to at least have someone looking for stories to share. #satchat
A1, A2...A8. We risk everything when we don't tell our message.
BUT...raise your hand if you have the budget for a public info liaison or have the time to take on that responsibility consistently & well?
#satchat
Q3: There are lots of modern ways to tell an educational story but what non-technology / non-social media ways have you used to tell an educational story? #satchat
A2 We do a lot current events in my clssrm. I often tweet them out & share how we are looking at them from all points of view, & encouraging discussion; allowing students to better hold and defend their own point of view #satchat
#satchat A2 Stakeholders need to see evidence that what is embraced by the district is seen in the hearts, minds, and hands of its students. Our kids tell our story ...
A2: Find the veteran and “rookie” teacher who are learning from each other...one is sharing experiences of being an educator and one is sharing new ideas on how to engage Ss...but both are being open to learn from each other #satchat
A3: I love beautiful notebooks with blank pages that I carry with me daily. I write, sketch and collect tidbits of my life to archive my thinking. #satchat
A3 People need to see the inside of schools. Art shows, parent events, even using the building during elections offers the opportunity to showcase student work and to highlight the great things happening in education. #satchat
Q3: There are lots of modern ways to tell an educational story but what non-technology / non-social media ways have you used to tell an educational story? #satchat
True of any public info dissemination!
End results, new programs, new opportunities...all of them must serve the Beast ~ the "WHY"...
~ is it important?
~ spend the $$ and human resources on it?
~ are we expecting positive change from *this* move?
#satchat
A2: I’m reflecting on how important it would be to tell stories that demonstrate a self-awareness of the areas we need work on to develop into a more positive educational experience #satchat
A2) Show off the many ways students are being prepared for their success. Examples of relevant learning and problem solving, the way they use tech to communicate, etc. #satchat
I have seen PA secretary of education, @pedroarivera2 speak several times. He encourages teachers to tweet him, @GovernorTomWolf and @PADeptofEd what we are doing - to inspire all of us. This is leadership! Grateful. #satchat
The adults were too busy chanting, "crackers" "incest babies" "faggots"
But you didn't hear much about that because the kids were doing something more offensive.
They were wearing those mean offensive #MAGA red hats.
You can't make this up. #SaturdayMorning#satchat
A2) I like to post and communicate about the everyday things that go on in classrooms that the public rarely gets to see. Anything that opens a window into showing the process of learning, IMO, is important to communicate #Satchat
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
A2: Don't forget the little things. The student who found a book that made them love reading. The students who worked together to help a friend. A student's pride at an accomplishment. Things no test can ever measure. #satchat
And this speaks to where those stories are shared. If a student is having a rocky experience, that story needs to be heard internally and resolved. Parents have no problem grabbing and broadcasting narratives. #satchat
What if the reality is their child WONT have a totally different experience because we refuse to listen to and dismiss the stories of students and parents in our community? #satchat
A3: 💕I tell my educational story every day through my actions and interactions with my educators, students, and parents/guardians that I interact with. For my students, it typically has a "I love you guys" in there. #satchat
a1 (cont): If our stories are not truly about the community, about who we are, about the problems as well as the success, then we are just doing PR, not telling stories.
And until we learn to decenter whiteness, our stories about public schools will not be authentic.
#satchat
A2. For the first time this year, our school has begun to use 4 hashtags associated with the 4 pillars of our SIP. This way, people can see on our feeds (Twitter, FB, Insta) what we value as learners. We also share this F2F, via website, email... Work in progress 😉 #satchat
A3: Schools and districts should not overlook their front sign. It can convey a message, a theme, an event, or set the tone for a school year. It's a powerful story teller that is visible to everyone who passes the school. #satchat
A3: pictures- I started my admin job this year but I have pics from my old school, former Ss, former Ts, and I talk about them. I post pics of my current school and events we have. Pics tell stories without tech! #satchat
A2.2 We need to tell failure stories too. What did we try? What were we hoping to accomplish? What did we learn from failing? What will we try next time? Who can help? If we’re serious about empowering kids, let’s open up about our own struggles. #satchat
#satchat
A2. Daily communication, including: celebrations, students working, creating, playing; teachers collaborating, new ideas. The big stuff too, but there are great things happening in classrooms every day in a school. This affirms our work to a bigger audience.
Face to face conversations! We present regularly at board meetings about what is happening educationally within the schools and how we are moving forward. We have quarterly maulers that go home as well. #satchat
A2: I really think the students need to be in charge of this aspect. They're experiences and perceptions of the school are ultimately what people hear about.
#satchat
When we improve outcomes for kids, we need to share those stories with our communities!
@JaredMyracle had a powerful exemplar this week in @JMCSchools, explaining the story of districtwide reading growth from its new ELA curriculum implementation.
Press release & all:
#satchat
These numbers are unreal... This is what happens when you combine effective teaching with solid curriculum. We have a lot of great little readers in @JMCSchools! Our new phonics curriculum (CKLA) is vital to building reading abilities. #TrustTheProcesshttps://t.co/vwYtI1RvIu
It may not happen as much as it should in every school, but it is at least promoting the idea of sharing our stories and giving schools a way to do that. #satchat
A3 Technology is such a fast and immediate way of getting the narrative out there, especially social media&the school’s website. That said, the weekly newsletter, the weekly staff bulletin, the year book, are also valuable ways of reminding everyone about the story
#satchat
A2. An inclusive school community has a +ve climate where there are frameworks/policies that create a safe environment. Establish clear, written policies for important topics e.g., bullying, positive body image, cybersafety, & make sure these are accessible to all. #satchat
A2: Try to show the celebrations, the funny things AND the everyday stuff. Want stakeholders to see that we are a normal middle school (????) living & learning on our way to being productive citizens. #satchat
A3: We use our monthly newsletter to share information...we also let our physical walls tell the story of the school. Bulletin boards about our programs, student work hanging around the bldg, and also any chance to speak directly to parents...mtgs, events, etc #satchat
A3 @DutchGodshalk came to my classroom and interviewed me for a front page article! Inform the local media of what is happening in your schools! Get our message out there! Inspire! #satchathttps://t.co/OMx5ajo1LN
Q3: There are lots of modern ways to tell an educational story but what non-technology / non-social media ways have you used to tell an educational story? #satchat
A3 Share good news with parents. Call them when you have a good thing to say about their kids accomplishments. Go meet business partners where they are and tell them of your schools great successes. #satchat
That’s a great point and we have to meet every student and family where they are & go from there. Trying to have a shared goal. This can be a moving target as everyone has different expectations but we are here to grow kids. Chip away & find wins when we can to build on. #Satchat
A2. So much! CRITICAL Self reflection scared teachers sometimes. I know some who think “it will be used against [them]” #satchathttps://t.co/DiEmOctKh3
A2: I’m reflecting on how important it would be to tell stories that demonstrate a self-awareness of the areas we need work on to develop into a more positive educational experience #satchat
Face to face conversations! We present regularly at board meetings about what is happening educationally within the schools and how we are moving forward. We have quarterly mailers that go home as well. #satchat
A2 May 4th is a great event founded by 3 elementary school kids. Several schools have participated in the past and found it was a wonderful way to teach about the power of charity and how you can make a positive impact in your community.
#satchat
A3- As a former education reporter, I loved when teachers invited me in to see a lesson. If you have a very local newspaper, that's an option. Or, make sure to pump out pictures and blurbs to editors. #satchat
A3) Community visits by teachers and students, Open House, Club Fairs, Sporting Events, Performing Arts, all good ways to promote & create connections #satchat
A3. I still like to keep portfolios for students. I keep every piece of writing and every formal assessment throughout the year. At the end, they see their growth and have a story to tell.
#satchat
A3: Invite your community to your campus for a range of events. Be visible and involved in your community.
I dunno. I'd like to read what others think. #satchat
A3: Invite the right people into your learning environments and support opportunities to get learners outside of the classroom, interacting with groups outside the educational system. e.g. Inviting another grade of student into your classroom, Community service #satchat
We need to inspire the next generation of teachers! Education is hard work, but so much fun and worth every moment! It’s a team effort and we need to help one another. I have learned so much once I opened my eyes! #SatChat
A3: Open house, curriculum night, heritage night, science night, fall festival, games/performances, competitions, all student focused ways to invite the community into the school to SEE, HEAR, and EXPERIENCE the culture. #satchat
Brian, you make a VERY fair point. Something > nothing. ALWAYS. 100% with you. In the modern context of change & politics & school-bashing, it just seems to me that this topic today ranks VERY high on the must-do list, that it must be done well and regularly. #satchat
I share my failures, but I won’t share my kids’ shortcomings ... that is not my story to tell. Although they sometimes tell their story on Instagram and Snapchat ... which brings us to Why don’t we let the kids tell their story ... unfiltered? #satchat
In reply to
@skhooldesign, @Randy_Speck, @lpijanowski
So true Scott....thousands of people literally drive by the front sign of a school every day...thousands. Most likely more than most of us have SM followers...w the exception of the #satchat founders :)
A3: Schools and districts should not overlook their front sign. It can convey a message, a theme, an event, or set the tone for a school year. It's a powerful story teller that is visible to everyone who passes the school. #satchat
We are hosting an Integrated Field Review site visit this week - teachers/admin from our region. Also @VTEducation staff. Our story through in real time. Looking forward to it #satchathttps://t.co/9wTQGYRtnr
A1: We must share our ‘WHY’ with our families and communities so they understand what we’re doing! There are so many educational terms and shifts happening that they need to see the importance of going against the traditional way of ‘doing school’!! #satchat
A3: Find ways to get families in our students, both during the school day, and for other events. Nothing really compares to that experience of being present. Learning fairs, celebration of learning, etc. #satchat
"If you truly want to engage kids, you have to pull back on control and create the conditions in which they can tap their own inner motivations." @DanielPink#satchathttps://t.co/Rf5JDE1Zca
A1: Too many times the only data the media gives attention to are the scores and suspension rates. Educators are obligated to share WHOLE process #Satchat
I have kids that do awesome things ... I also have an equal number of kids whose projects even they know are not in the same league as the great projects but they keep on working. More about process than product #satchat
@RoysterProud we have the mindset of telling our school school as a priority not a bonus! Our stakeholders want to see the great things coming from our incredible classrooms, school activities, civic engagements & overall school pride told through our social media. #satchat#TLAP
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell our stakeholders about to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
I just realized that I never introduced myself. #TooEarly I'm a Special Education teacher and I've been teaching for 5 years. This is my first year teaching in a public high school. I taught at a 766 school before.
#satchat
A3. As a leader I often get caught talking numbers and big picture - when I really should be sharing the stories. People connect and understand through stories. #satchat
#SatChat A3a Geez.. non-tech, non-social way of telling an educational story?
A conversation with a client about sending me to #Realities360 conference in June by describing how to use #ARVRinEDU in the training I develop for them. Getting them to yes via story.
Hey #satchat - Check out the @classcatalyst handle & https://t.co/KiDi020G5i
Almost ready to launch a research based SEL tool designed to give S’s & T’s a way to raise awareness of their emotional needs & the tools to get themselves READY-TO-LEARN!
Partnering w/ @MEMSPA
A3: I do think anything beats the conversation that a school leader can have w/ stakeholders. Even internally. We need to have Ts sharing stories about class experiences w/ colleagues. #satchat
A4 Typically the school website and an official school Twitter Account. Some are starting to look at other avenues as well but they would be then main ones.
#satchat
A3) We get to share part of our story and highlight our awesome students during our Citizens of the Month celebration. We invite family members in to celebrate with us. #satchat
A3: By talking to people that I meet or encounter in my day. People I know people I don’t know. I brag on our school & district a lot. I work in an amazing place. Not perfect, but amazing Also best on my Ss all the time b/c people need to know my Ss are awesome.
#satchat
A1: Too many times the only data the media gives attention to are the scores and suspension rates. Educators are obligated to share WHOLE process #Satchat
A3: Old School --->Face to face community meetings provide a wonderful opportunity to tell our educational story. As superintendent I held large and small meetings discussing our referendum and as we embark on a strategic plan, we have held 5 community events.
#satchat
If I'm telling the story of my 4 rooms (I work across 4 grade levels), and 3 other teachers tell the same, then it seem like only half the staff is doing good stuff. FAR from true. But appearances matter. Intentionality in promoting our schools is an imp consideration. #satchat
A#: Wonderful question!
In NJ, all districts are local. Stories told in homes by students, by friends in diners, by the high school kid serving in a local coffee shop, stories told with words, gestures, and facial expressions.
These are the stories that carry weight #satchat
Q3: There are lots of modern ways to tell an educational story but what non-technology / non-social media ways have you used to tell an educational story? #satchat
Dont mind when any adult visits my classroom. Some are constructively critical, some have been absurdly critical, but most have walked out with smiles on their faces. And from the 1st & the last groups, I have answered some great ?'s on the "why's" of what I do in there #satchat
A3. Physical evidence is so important. When a student has tangible products to demonstrate their growth see meaning in their work. Keeping everything 'online' does not provide the same response. #satchat
A3: There are so many ways. Take a photo of your students working on projects. Send a note home to the caregiver praising the student for a job well done. Have a face-to-face conversation with the caregiver. #satchat#gen2108
A3: Many non-tech avenues to share exist. E.g., our school celebrates Chinese New Year every year with a parade. Parents and classes fill our bottom floor to ring in the new year. We also invite families in for other events e.g. a winter holiday celebration, Halloween...#satchat
Stories help connect families and community to the work in our schools at a much deeper, richer level.
‘Cause neuroscience:
#satchathttps://t.co/UgPDlpz8G9
Here's the question that really helps our PLN make the chat practical and usable on Monday:
Q4: What are the apps and technology you use to tell your educational story, the educational story of your classroom, school, or district?
#satchat
A3: I learn from hearing others experiences. When edu-friends share what they tried and how what they learned from their students it is powerful. Especially when they are brave enough to share how they overcame adversity. Authentic conferring is valuable. #satchat
We do 3 family nights a year. We model ways for families to have fun, without a lot of money. But yes, they also promote our school and the community we are building inside and outside the walls. #satchat
A2: @RoysterProud we have the mindset of telling our school school as a priority not a bonus! Our stakeholders want to see the great things coming from our incredible classrooms, school activities, civic engagements & overall school pride told through our social media. #satchat
When I am ready to share, I head to Google Slides so I have creative control and can easily share with others and invite comments. I use this with my preservice teachers with amazing community-building results! #satchat
A4 Our district’s website was redesigned recently. Now there is always a picture of Ss front and center, updated frequently. Anyone visiting the website knows our focus is on Ss, can see the opportunities they have and their accomplishments. https://t.co/PggJp6cY4Q#satchat
A3. Here is the way to leverage social media for good. Schools increasingly have SM presence and PD networks can be looped in as well as general public. Small posts can reach wide audience and encourage conversation.
#satchat
A3: The open house night at the beginning of the year and scheduled student-parent activity nights (like STEAM nights) are a great way to build a bridge with parents and promote the amazing ideas and work their kids are doing #satchat
A2: @RoysterProud we have the mindset of telling our school school as a priority not a bonus! Our stakeholders want to see the great things coming from our incredible classrooms, school activities, civic engagements & overall school pride told through our social media. #satchat
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell our stakeholders about to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
One of the reasons for this (I think) is schools are often in denial about this as an issue. The more schools resist, the more media will focus on it. To acknowledge the issue and talk about the process of the changes to impact would go a long way of taking away energy #satchat
#satchat A3 I have been a #writer for as long as I have been a #teacher. When I began teaching, there was no social media. Strong speaking skills, and the ability to write well helped me to share my thoughts, and they continue to do so.
A4: 📱My role allows me to communicate our school's educational stories with our community. Because I work in a high school, we use Twitter, Facebook, 👻Snapchat, Pinterest, and Instagram. Google Docs allows us to elaborate on our stories. Check us out at @NSHSWolverines#satchat
#SatChat A1a Because people, parents, neighbors in the community and stakeholders tend not to know much about it. The school my kids went to around the corner if not for the marquee out front I wouldn’t know what’s going on. And that’s such a tiny snippet of a story.
A3.2) I also love the notebooks that the younger kids come home with to recap their day. I would actually like to see that in higher grades as well. #satchat
A3: Making your school env't open & inviting, having student creations up for all to see. #PottyPD signs in our adult restrooms (although they have a tech component).Team Building for T's to get to know each other. Parent nights. I'd love to have a Student #Edcamp! #SatChat
Q3: There are lots of modern ways to tell an educational story but what non-technology / non-social media ways have you used to tell an educational story? #satchat
A3 Back to school night is a good time to share your mission, going to school events like sporting events, plays and concerts may give you an opportunity to meet parents and other members of your community and allow you to talk about your mission as an educator #satchat
A3: SPICE Night. Service. Passion. Innovation. Collaboration. Empowerment. Set up rotations throughout school that told the story of each for our school. We started by serving our parents a meal, opened the makerspsce, created a community art project, etc. #satchat
For sure! That how is how you build culture and with it Engagement. This article on Employee Engagement has ideas relevant to this idea. Enjoy! #satchathttps://t.co/zSppRwUFDs via @careersingov
A2: as educators, we need to tell a story about growth for each individual regardless of ability. The narrative that develops over time is on about transformation of all those invested in the school community. #Satchat
#SatChat A1b Before my first #EdCamp, #EdCampWestTexas, I was really lacking context about how Ts (I’m a parent, grandparent, not a T) go about leveraging tech to teach. I was clueless about Arizona’s standards and how everything tied back to that. Most don’t methinks.
Jumping in to share the amazing work of one of my all-star #STEM Ss. She built a #VR project on Katherine Johnson @hiddenFigures. It's truly remarkable! She's 11 yo & w/ NO digital design exp. Sharing her work on Twitter drove her even stronger for excellence. #Satchat
We have students to videos monthly. We do one grade per month and let the students tell the story of what’s happening in their classes and on the building.

A2: We need to share and celebrate the learning experiences that support the vision of our district!! Student empowered experiences that promote student centered and driven learning!! Promote the ‘WHY’ this shift is necessary in our constantly changing world!! 🌟💥🌎#satchat
A3: Many non-tech avenues to share exist. E.g., our school celebrates Chinese New Year every year with a parade. Parents and classes fill our bottom floor to ring in the new year. We also invite families in for other events e.g. a winter holiday celebration, Halloween...#satchat
#satchat A3.Invite parents to engage in some of the work their children are doing. In Feb. we are having a parent/student evening to complete some challenge activities. Students will be engaged in planning and facilitating the event.
I like this thought ... imagine if we had a “confessional” like on MTV Real World where a kid could privately express their opinion ... no holds barred ... would we want to hear what they said? #satchat

While he was screaming about the wall and caravans of women being abducted and duct taped, he was slowly rolling back the rights of abused women right here in our country.
Motherfucker.
#SaturdayMorning#satchat
A4 My school uses shared documents, class websites, our e-newsletter, and social media to share the stories of our classrooms. Not sure how far those stories go, though, and when we’re in the wider news, it’s rarely about something good. #satchat
A4: We use Twitter, Instagram, Remind, Smore, Flipgrid on a regular basis. These tools have become vital in helping us share information and tell our story. #satchat
Our website is a “check the box” Visits are mostly looking for information - I’ve yet to meet anyone who has said “I can’t wait to get home from work and check the school website” #satchat
A4) Of course Social Media has been huge in the last few years, but we are noticing shifts- Parents are more Facebook/Twitter, but students are Instagram/Snapchat ~ have to emabrace all and go where the 👀s are at. #satchat
#SatChat A3 continues: there is an assumption in our area that my Ss aren’t as amazing as they were 19 yrs ago when I started. This is due to the change in demographics of my school and the racist mindset of the old guard in the community. I try to dispel that myth. My Ss are 💯!
A3: By talking to people that I meet or encounter in my day. People I know people I don’t know. I brag on our school & district a lot. I work in an amazing place. Not perfect, but amazing Also best on my Ss all the time b/c people need to know my Ss are awesome.
#satchat
A1. Family & community involvement fosters partnerships among schools, family & community groups, as well as individuals themselves. These partnerships result in sharing & maximising resources, while also helping Ss healthy behaviours & promoting healthy families. #satchat
A4: I love to use @SmorePages and @canva to develop newsletters and images. They are great and easy to use.
Additionally, using educational Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts
#satchat
A4: An active classroom Twitter @Gr5_6TEPS that we call a "window into our classrooms". The key is ensuring that all parents are aware of the rules and how the account operates. A detailed permission form goes home at the beginning of the school year. #satchat
A4: it took a long time to get the infrastructure up and running and takes constant work to keep them going. Blogs, Twitter, Instagram, and podcasts. Does anyone use Snapchat as a professional to share? #SatChat
A3 Through our school council, at celebrations of learning with colleagues, at open house and other special events. And by inviting the community in and then hoping they’ll go out and tell 2 friends, and so on, and so on.. 😉 #satchat
A4. I maintain a 2ndary FB acct to connect with Ps and the community. It's great to promote our *alumni's* growth & success. We are part of THAT story as well.
#satchat
A4 Use Twitter for edu, Facebook to keep up with friends. Im often posting my classroom hijinx on Facebook, & when I catch up w/friends f2f, they often comment on how much I seem to love the job. When Gov Christie was attacking teacher in NJ, at least my circle ?'d it #satchat
#satchat A4 Twitter will always be the best way to connect to my educational community; I use Instagram, but Twitter has connected to me to so many amazing educators areound the world.
One of the things I’m reflecting on is who is the more powerful influencer of our stories; parents or students? The reality vs. our desires may not be in sync. #satchat
A4: Primary app is @Twitter, but also our website, Smore, Remind as well. We also send out our weekly newsletter as a pdf attached to an email. #satchat
#SatChat A2a I attend and participate in a lot of K-12 PD, mostly #EdCamp#CUE and #TechFest stuff. Lately I’ve been streaming some sessions. You can see some at https://t.co/UNFYnjom6f .. I encourage Ts to have channels to share w/Ps and stakeholders.
A4: Twitter, infinite campus (grading software) allows email blasts which is my primary way of sharing with parents (HS level). My son’s teacher uses seesaw, I like it b/c it is private for the parents in my son’s class. She posts pictures of my son’s day and learning #satchat
A4. A website serves an important purpose for schools: to be a self-service portal for all information. Websites have changed over the years in how they are designed. A good one is accessible on mobile devices & serves as a hub for social media and other channels. #satchat
A4) Twitter, our district web page, our Library @Tenafly77 sends out videos from all the schools, remind as well to send out info from teachers and schools. #satchat
A4: newsletter through google sites, Twitter @Creekside17_18, Instagram, FB, Peach Jar, ParentLink - *curious about learning about FB live for school community updates and information. #SatChat
A3: SPICE Night. Service. Passion. Innovation. Collaboration. Empowerment. Set up rotations throughout school that told the story of each for our school. We started by serving our parents a meal, opened the makerspsce, created a community art project, etc. #satchat
A4: I'd really love to see a national digital journal that provides snapshots across the country of schools with a focus on inspiring learning experiences. Not newsreporting journalism, but a creative platform #satchat
Indeed! The visibility of student learning in physical spaces is critical to telling stories, especially in spaces that are used for non-Ed purposes during non-instructional times. #satchat 👍 👍
I like that anyone can submit. How do you share this message with staff? Just curious! I’m envisioning a google form for teachers, etc. to share a blog post for review. #satchat
Why you can't stop talking about equity. Talk up what you're proud of, of course. But you know there's that parent whose kid with a disability is still struggling. Be open about your challenges. #satchat
One of the reasons for this (I think) is schools are often in denial about this as an issue. The more schools resist, the more media will focus on it. To acknowledge the issue and talk about the process of the changes to impact would go a long way of taking away energy #satchat
We should want to know. How will we ever create the compelling learning environments for kids without knowing how they prefer to learn and what engages them. Hmmm . . . #satchat
I like this thought ... imagine if we had a “confessional” like on MTV Real World where a kid could privately express their opinion ... no holds barred ... would we want to hear what they said? #satchat

A4: 1/The apps don't matter, the flow and execution does. Lots of schools lose people on apps and newsletters that require downloads, clicks, not optimized for phone. Use a simple Mailchimp (free-ish) newsletter list and keep simple. #satchat
A3: great Q! This year, we’ve been looking for more ways to involve families. We’ve had mystery readers, grandparents day, gingerbread day, Math day, STEM night, and so many other well-attended events to welcome families in rather than just show what’s happening within #Satchat
A3: We just had a financial literacy evening that promoted our working credit union. Book Publishing parties are my personal favorite. Inviting families to come in and celebrate their authors is truly special! #Satchat
I am excited to explore Adobe Spark (Free for schools?) as a way to create some branded messages for SM. I have messed with it some on my own but looking forward to using it more officially #satchat
A4. I use @Twitter, @instagram, @RemindHQ for communication within the community and my classroom. I really want to figure out how to use @Snapchat in a safe and effective way in the classroom... but I really haven't figured out how yet. My IA also has her own website.
#Satchat
A4 As prevalent as technology is in our lives, many people- T's, admin and parents are still reluctant to embrace it to brand and learn. I'm working to change that one conversation at a time. #satchat
A4: Twitter, branching out to Instagram
Considering sending intro videos and then periodic classroom update videos to parents via email and leaving the videos available on our LMS for continued access for Ps and Ss.
#satchat
A4: 1/The apps don't matter, the flow and execution does. Lots of schools lose people on apps and newsletters that require downloads, clicks, not optimized for phone. Use a simple Mailchimp (free-ish) newsletter list and keep simple. #satchat
A2: We need to share and celebrate the learning experiences that support the vision of our district!! Student empowered experiences that promote student centered and driven learning!! Promote the ‘WHY’ this shift is necessary in our constantly changing world!! 🌟💥🌎#satchat
A4: Our students wanted ice cream in the cafeteria. There were roadblocks that they helped solve. I told the story on my blog: #satchathttps://t.co/3xnkKcn01t
#satchat A4 Twitter and Facebook are the two standouts. More families connect via @Facebook . Professional connections are created via @Twitter. We keep this sign with QRs to our pages outside the classroom so everyone can connect with us!
If done right, parents can be a very important part of what happens in a school and an essential piece of the school culture. We can't expect their support if our doors are not truly open. #satchat
A4: We are currently making the switch to using @schoolmessenger as a board. Many of my parents are now on & I believe it will be an effective tools once I get more parents on. I previously used an alternate tool for daily communication with home. #satchat
A5 When I visit schools as an author, I like to share my journey from high school to career. I bounced all over. Computer science, video production, English, education, taught for years, then supported tech in schools, and now working with district data. #satchat
I’m also doing something related to my love of writing and books. I like students to know their interests and passions can fit into life and career in lots of different ways, that a “career path” can have turns, intersections, and multiple lanes. #satchat
I think that’s the age old question about pragmatism vs idealism. I think we strategically choose when to be pragmatic in order to move closer to our ideals. #satchat
Our stakeholders want to see their histories & experiences mirrored in our school cultures & curriculums.
If schools don’t disrupt their role in perpetuating dominate white, middle-class & heteronormative values & norms, then how can they be liberating spaces for all?
#satchat
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell our stakeholders about to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
A5 When a former student who’d experienced trauma made a very bad decision, my school “had to evaluate his continued enrollment.” So I told his story. And mine. https://t.co/oMQhmNXCDu#satchat
2/ Do this: Study marketing from companies, e-commerce sites you use. What newsletters do you read and not delete? Outside edu? Do *that* for your school. Amazon spent millions to research the placement & color of the button. It works. #satchat
NEXT QUESTION: Practical examples of telling our educational story:
Q5: Describe the best educational story you have told and how you told it?
#satchat
A5: I can't think of one story in particular, but it is great to have a conversation with someone in the community about our school based on what they saw on Twitter or Facebook. #SatChat
A3: SPICE Night. Service. Passion. Innovation. Collaboration. Empowerment. Set up rotations throughout school that told the story of each for our school. We started by serving our parents a meal, opened the makerspsce, created a community art project, etc. #satchat
Principal do this. We are always searching for a story. If someone has one that is great. 3 pictures and 3 paragraphs is all it takes. The posting is all done through our office. #satchat
It depends on those two concepts I mentioned--audience and goal. Who owns the narrative? Kids are great communicators when they are happy and engaged. Another project idea--student podcasts. Just teach them to write like reporters, not English teachers! #satchat
One of the things I’m reflecting on is who is the more powerful influencer of our stories; parents or students? The reality vs. our desires may not be in sync. #satchat
It all depends on their age. This year, they're Juniors, so I think il have them write a letter to themselves that points out all of the growth and goals for senior year. In my last school, kids actually used them in applications for other schools. #satchat
A5: 🔖The best educational story that I have told is actually being told right now on Twitter! I have been named as a finalist for Teacher of the Year in my division. I'm honored and humbled. I started out as a 🚍school bus driver and administrative assistant. #satchat
I think we underestimate the power of technology and the impact on our relationships and thinking. Privacy issues, cyberbullying, etc. Schools are political sites and there is an awareness of the challenges #satchat
Another slow start to my Saturday. Joining #satchat late What a great topic. So important for communities to learn the greatness that is happening in schools. Sometimes I wonder when we do this, do we make it look too easy? Our successes, & there are many, come with hard work!
As a parent I've got plenty of opportunities to see the concerts and plays. We know a lot less about where our kids spent the vast majority of their time, in the classroom, especially beyond elementary. What you share should be proportionate to what kids do every day. #satchat A2
Q2: What are the topics, events, and experiences we need to tell our stakeholders about to promote the positive educational experiences in our classrooms, schools, and districts? #satchat
The thing about #satchat that everyone is missing is that we are on the verge of runaway climate change and we need a complete re-think of the global economy to ensure a just society & avoid planetary catastrophe.
3/ Much of school output, "marketing" & newsletters, I delete. Doesn't download right, not optimized for phone, font's unreadable (cute & teacher-y). Think like a marketer. You will get those results. No apples, pencils, crayons--just impact message. Trust me on this:) #satchat
A5) The best story I have told has been my personal story. Speaking your why & your springboard often allows others to feel more comfortable in sharing theirs / builds relationships/connections #satchat
The School Visitation Network = Visit. Host. Connect. Learn. Reflect. Evolve. Most importantly: Promote the Success of Students! Coming soon! Stay tuned for details. #SatChat
A5. We had a presentation to our board about #FutureReady and how we were using it to plan for the future. Included parents in the presentation. Supposed to last 20min ended up nearly an hour because of all the interest and questions! #satchat
4/Then look at your school website. Tough to use or built like the BEST e-commerce site? If it takes a user more than 2-3 clicks, you lost them. Then, you lost an opportunity to tell the story. #satchat
I am not sure it matters what app you are using. I think that being positive is more important than the app, as long as you are sharing a positive story it does not matter. #satchat#gen2108
A3: My weekly newsletter to families showcasing the week of learning through lots of photos & narratives to describe our ‘Why’, presenting at conferences & to schools across our district, project documentation on my bulletin boards, PLN meet-ups #satchat
Really important to take control of that narrative. Hard data can be useful promoting the amazing things Ss do! A positive growth mindset+the mantra nobody rises to low expectations can also be useful! Be upfront-tell anyone it’s not a good school, it’s a GREAT school! #satchat
So the message in this case is that the media aren't focused on "the negative"; they're drawing attention where it belongs. So schools can work to cover it all. #satchat
Agree! There is power in simplicity! Off Rt 80 in Tannersville, PA. For me, it just clogs up my mind with too much to think about so I ignore the stores being advertised. Kind of like schools that try to communicate across a wide field of apps. #satchat
A5: My favorite educational story to tell is my own. I have shared some on facebook, but the best way to hear it is in person. Directly from the source #satchat#gen2108
#SatChat A4a At #CUELApalooza a couple weeks ago I used an old iPhone6, #SwitcherStudio, a tripod and an iPad to stream her session over #FBLive. The app costs around $250 a year. The phone I had laying around. The tablet I use every day.
A5. I can't remember a specific story, but it's the general idea to each of us has had a teacher who has dramatically changed the trajectory of our life. Typically, it had nothing to do with the subject matter that they taught, but more about life lessons. #satchat
Not in all cases, but I do think the more we try and “create” a story that may not be fully true, we expose the system to hyper focus in those areas we refuse to acknowledge #satchat
The thing about #satchat that everyone is missing is that we are on the verge of runaway climate change and we need a complete re-think of the global economy to ensure a just society & avoid planetary catastrophe.
Magic moment yesterday..my youngest/smallest student stood up, on her own, during a dance party in our class (totally student organized) & did a beautiful solo singing and dance to “Let It Go!” My quietest and shyest student! I cried with joy! #bfc530#StarfishClub#JoyfulLeaders
6/ Sky's the limit--kid youtube channels, donation buttons, community action day... But model it after the best things you already use outside of edu:) (end) #satchat
A5 Too many but usually when presenting data on Ss achievement to staff, the stories behind the data is shared. Data is meaningless without context.
#satchat
Agree! There is power in simplicity! Here is a sign on Rt 611 off Rt 80 in Tannersville, PA. For me, it just clogs up my mind with too much to think about so I ignore the stores being advertised. Kind of like schools that try to communicate across a wide field of apps. #satchat
Schools and districts with unique hashtags allow many voices to tell your story. It's even better when diverse stakeholders are part of it... families sharing the hashtag with their own learning experiences. #UseTech4Good#K12PRchat#satchat
A3. Here is the way to leverage social media for good. Schools increasingly have SM presence and PD networks can be looped in as well as general public. Small posts can reach wide audience and encourage conversation.
#satchat
Think like a journalist; recall HL Mencken's observation of news as man bites dog. That more often than not will lead to thinking about what people haven't heard about students and learning. #satchat
A:5 At our middle school once a MP we have a breakfast to celebrate students with great character. We invite parents to come in an and eat. It’s simple but we get such positive feedback from parents. #satchat
A5: I think the best story I told was about the power of using tech to promote global citizenship and I didn't even actually tell the story! My students presented their opinions to a group of educators. More powerful. I blogged about it here: https://t.co/ORjOy2M3Ch#satchat
4/Then look at your school website. Tough to use or built like the BEST e-commerce site? If it takes a user more than 2-3 clicks, you lost them. Then, you lost an opportunity to tell the story. #satchat
A5: Love to tell our stories on hallway monitors. Stakeholders, especially students, get to see what is going on in other classrooms and from time to time get their very own shout-out. Just as important important to tell your story internally as it is externally #SatChat
A6: The best educational story I have told is the story of my daughter. If our school isn’t ‘good enough’ for her education, then it’s not ‘good enough’ for your child’s either. This story is told every day. #SatChat
That's awesome. Make sure you've got someone testing it on mobile and as a download. I get so frustrated w cute newsletter apps I can't read right from email. I mean to read later, but don't. Same w parents/community. We default to mobile. #satchat
A5: Our district has Unified Teams at 2 of our high schools. For the last 2 years the teams have come together to play a night flag football game. Students, cheerleaders, parents and community come out. All told through Tweets and pics of the event. It's an awesome night #satchat
Yes! I believe when caregivers have information (& a glimpse into) - the why and how if new practices- there’s much more acceptance & excitement around “new”. Concerts & events are amazing, but on their own, are not enough #satchat
A2: Yes we can use social media and different school events to tell our stories, but not every access to meet us at these venues. Why not meet them at their houses of worship, barbershops or community events? #Satchat
Sharing what the Ss are working on and the activities that help them learn and grow is important. At the elementary level there are apps we can use to help. @seesaw is a great way to capture moments of the day to share with parents. #satchat
The big picture analysis in education is critical and the pathway to #equity. Part of the WHOLE process & story is #timeontask. If we must report scores, how willing are Ss to invest in the exercise? If they do it, they are willing. #Motivation#engagement#aspiration#satchat
A1: Too many times the only data the media gives attention to are the scores and suspension rates. Educators are obligated to share WHOLE process #Satchat
A5. I can't remember a specific story, but it's the general idea to each of us has had a teacher who has dramatically changed the trajectory of our life. Typically, it had nothing to do with the subject matter that they taught, but more about life lessons. #satchat
A5- I always tell coaching stories, they relate to the classroom and everywhere else. Like the story of Francis, a runner who couldn’t go 50 meters without stopping, but she put in the miles and became a 5:23 miler. #satchat
#satchat A5:
When taking to Pre-Service Teacher Educators, I always share that the hardest thing for me to deal with as a new T was seeing a S lose a parent and completely change. No training was given on how to help this S in life.
Yrs later, I am better equipped, but not then.
A5: About Me? I think writing my blog. https://t.co/KJS18cmucy
About students? Great stories tell themselves. I just set it up and others run with it. An environmental grant that had my campus planing trees and getting a goat and chickens comes to mind. #satchat
A3 As a technology teacher, I pride myself on saving trees, so I had to dig deep, but I guess I'm a car stopper. I run to parents and share (mostly) good news and specific praise at carline. Teacher chasing car promotes that happy feeling. #satchat#edchat#engagechat#tlap
A5: hard to tell a best one, how becoming #NBCT changed me into a much more reflective teacher, how when I went to colleges here was no way I’d become an educator because both my parents were educators, yet here I am, how a colleague of mine realized our student had #satchat
A5: sharing my own story for a whole year. I grew and eventually students told my story. The Collab Blog: One Year Series #satchathttps://t.co/0Pqjqorlav
A5. What a tough question! I have 2 that really stick out. First, I had a student who would not engage in any traditional curriculum. None. However, he was super creative and wicked smart. He ended up creating his own cards for a game Ss were really in to at the time. So
#satchat
The question for me is whether there are differences between those 10% and the other 90%. Just because the number is small, if there are statistical differences, it still may be of value. #satchat
Love it. I sometimes feel I'm harsh on edu but I'm not. It's just that we are marketing to ourselves, which is the opposite of what we need. We already know our story. We need to show to the world. So go where they are--mainstream tech flow and apps. :) #satchat
A5. Another story is a series on Amazon prime called Class Swap. It's inspiring to see the insight Irish students gain when visiting another school in a foreign country for 2 weeks. https://t.co/VQ2xT5f1Mt#satchat
A5. I can't remember a specific story, but it's the general idea to each of us has had a teacher who has dramatically changed the trajectory of our life. Typically, it had nothing to do with the subject matter that they taught, but more about life lessons. #satchat
A6: 🌎Tell your story for the world to see it! You never know who you are going to impact, the lives you are going to change, and the difference you will make in someone's life. Showcase your students and celebrate them (check who's on the opt-out first though!) #satchat
It only happens once a year, but offering it may be something to think about. We create historical mini golf courses at the end of next month, maybe invite parents in during their child's class. Thanks for pushing me to think about more ways #satchat
If done right, parents can be a very important part of what happens in a school and an essential piece of the school culture. We can't expect their support if our doors are not truly open. #satchat
A6: Set a goal (when I started I set a goal of 2 Tweets per day)
Encourage Ts to invite you into the classroom
Know what audience is viewing each app
No story is too small, tell YOUR story!
#SatChat
I would agree that my best story is my own about how I became an educator. I tell it by sharing my experience as a student first and how it compelled me to become an educator. I also use Simon Sinek's golden circle to emphasize our WHY. #satchat
A5) The best story I have told has been my personal story. Speaking your why & your springboard often allows others to feel more comfortable in sharing theirs / builds relationships/connections #satchat
A3: In Kentucky, we have created a YouTube channel to spotlight innovative educators around the state and streamline all of their brilliance together. https://t.co/hKv2aSiQKS#satchat#KYGoDigital
No, I mean test everything you send individually on each device every time, lol. I'm finishing a book. I'll test on desktop, kindle fire, kindle reader, phone(s)... When I send a newsletter, I send a test to all devices and two emails, too. Every time. #satchat
#satchat
A4. We started a school news team to broadcast what's happening throughout the school. School website mostly focuses on announcements. Social media is available for sharing, but accounts are centralized through our Supt. Social media has a bad rep for teachers in CT.
Great idea ~ We’ve started to do more student/community events as well & have partnered with some local companies such as @SpokeHubApp to gain traction/eyes #satchat
#satchat A6 For my colleagues I try to model and share my PLN. For my Pre-Ts in my "Social Media in Education" class I have a requirement to expand their PLN and "tweet out" ten times per week to share educational information. 25 students x 10 x 14 weeks = enhanced sharing.
A5. I designed a project surrounding those cards. He made me characters from a book we were reading, presidents from the time period. It was awesome. So, I shared those cards (with their permission) with anyone who would listen, to show the meaningful work our school
#satchat
A5. What a tough question! I have 2 that really stick out. First, I had a student who would not engage in any traditional curriculum. None. However, he was super creative and wicked smart. He ended up creating his own cards for a game Ss were really in to at the time. So
#satchat
A4: @SmorePages is my favorite way of sharing my newsletter!! Using @Vimeo to embed videos so families get to see the learning in action along with still photos!!
@Twitter to share learning across our district and with my PLN!! #satchat
#SatChat A5a So I learn TONS alongside teachers. In my day job I design and manage broadcast video projects for clinician PD. I like being able to retool what I learn with Ts and apply to my audience. I can’t always, given constraints and what not, but sometimes.. +
I knew my students, what they knew and could do. What they wanted. I documented so much. Grades weren’t as important and when they started writing at the semester to share the story, it might be the highlight of my career. #satchat
A6. In a recent visit to an Ivy campus, I was reminded by all of the young men and women who have the promise of their entire lives ahead of them. Then I was reminded of all of the alums where that promise hadn't quite gotten fulfilled. It's not all that you think it is. #satchat
A5: With the help of @MarkEDamon & @mschoenberger I was able to redesign my room and cur. into a space that supports hands-on #STEM learning. Shared on Twitter, at Parent/community meetings and in the local paper. #satchathttps://t.co/klBydSrfby
Ouch. For that I recommend this: Use all the free bulletin boards but send them where you want them to go. Then have that space optimized. 100%. Current, fun, and valuable. #satchat
A6: It's not that difficult to get started but I suggest having a plan or a focus to guide you as you start. What 1 or 2 things do you want to let people know about? Start there. Be consistent in putting out info. Then expand your use. #satchat
A5-The best story I never got to share was having Thanksgiving with a student's family where we had to sit two to a chair. As you can see, it left a lasting impression. #satchat

A6. I think one of the most challenging aspects is that we are told to work hard in school. Hard work equals success, but then in the real world, we're not prepared for the "failure" despite the hard work. #satchat
A3: Find ways to get families in our students, both during the school day, and for other events. Nothing really compares to that experience of being present. Learning fairs, celebration of learning, etc. #satchat
Be clear and precise in your message. Know your "why!" Everyone should be able to say the message, even in their own terms. Too many messages blitz readers. Minimize clicks! Minimize words. #satchat Good morning @wkrakower#IGNITE your passion.
A5. At our international conference, we had students give a keynote alongside @sirjohnfjones about 3D printing their prosthetic hands project - very inspiring! #satchat
Lol. It's interesting because schools are excited to use tech at all. And so many are still hampered with regs so they have to use that gross website or bad flow. So, double the challenge. #satchat
A6: Share, share, share! If you do not share your journey, no one can learn from it! We have so much to offer someone who may be toying with the idea of becoming an educator. #satchat#gen2108
A6: I talk about what I’m learning and sharing on #twitter, I think drawing their stories out of them and then encouraging them to share it with others, however that looks to them, direct conversation, blogs, emails etc. #satchat
A6 Dear fellow teachers, sharing your story allows you to reflect on your practice & that only serves to improve it. And you never know the reach you will have, the discussions you will start, the changes you will make in other classrooms, in other families. #satchat
A6: Advice to those who are new to telling their stories: it won’t work if you do not have a strong classroom, school or district culture. Connections with stakeholders and integrating pedagogically sound methods must be in place so that stories you tell stick #Satchat
A6. Start small. Pick your favorite project or lesson and start sharing. Find someone in your district who you can partner with and help each other along the way. Reach out to those in the district who are already sharing for help! #satchat
A5. I designed a project surrounding those cards. He made me characters from a book we were reading, presidents from the time period. It was awesome. So, I shared those cards (with their permission) with anyone who would listen, to show the meaningful work our school

A6. It's important to share to find common ground and to realize what challenges we've all faced, despite the seemingly surface impression of success. #satchat
#SatChat A5b This past Tuesday I was sharing how I failed to stream the #IACUE sessions I attended the Saturday before. The host school’s network blocked two critical ports. I share the story of how I figured that out and how, in future, an LTE hotspot might be a backup.
A1: We must share our ‘WHY’ with our families and communities so they understand what we’re doing! There are so many educational terms and shifts happening that they need to see the importance of going against the traditional way of ‘doing school’!! #satchat
A5 @PSEA encourages PA teachers to share their classroom awesomeness. They came and interviewed my students and I and published a story w/ video - https://t.co/GszlCnlOvf#SatChat
A6 Dear fellow teachers, sharing your story allows you to reflect on your practice & that only serves to improve it. And you never know the reach you will have, the discussions you will start, the changes you will make in other classrooms, in other families. #satchat
A6: As a parent and a teacher, I think it only promotes learning and engagement if all members of the school community are aware and involved. Allow others to celebrate success and promote learning outside the four walls of your classroom. The benefits are huge! #satchat
#satchat A5. Best stories are about relationships with students to uncover talents not usually revealed in the classroom; they are artists, inventors, engineers, scientists, social activists, athletes & more We need to really get to know our kids.
It can be a shift of mindset for school members to truly recognize this partnership. “With” always brings us further and yields ongoing positivity/meaningful collaboration. #satchat

A6) The only advice I would give is that you have to be transparent & be willing to be vulnerable - it’s definitely a process & takes you out of your comfort zones #satchat
Yeah, but I wouldn't have known to do it unless I were working outside edu in tech. It's a very different way of thinking & was tough for me. But I think layering that efficiency and process on many edu ones would be golden for edu #satchat
#satchat
A5. I have 4 children who span 10 years in age and light years in personality and interests (though each a great person). I have seen each one profoundly impacted in unique ways by special teachers in their lives. The words of great teachers will stay with them forever. #satchat
A5. A wonderful student intern created this video about friendship and it says more about our school #TISMacao than any marketing video we ever created! #satchathttps://t.co/s3wflncI5n
A6: Our stories are about who we are and who we are becoming! Shout them from the rooftops, never being afraid the share the good, the great and, even, the not-so-great. By doing this, we can all engage in richer learning experiences together! #satchat
Absolutely ... let's not forget the purpose of school. Learning and teaching -- quality instruction in every class, every day, for every child. My mantra. #satchat#IGNITE your passion.
A6: Advice to those who are new to telling their stories: it won’t work if you do not have a strong classroom, school or district culture. Connections with stakeholders and integrating pedagogically sound methods must be in place so that stories you tell stick #Satchat
A5 Any story that starts with my students doing some crazy activity, and then they come to the "Ah-ha" moment of why it was an important piece to learn in their educational quiver That's the whole point of teaching, right? #satchat
A1: Properly telling your school story is the single most effective way to enhance community relations, improve parent communication, promote a positive culture all while advocating for our students. Tell the school story that needs to be told b/c #KidsDeserveIt#satchat#LeadLAP
Similar experience here. We tend to just read books without really thinking about layout, things just look right on the page... unless it's done wrong. Then it is impossible not to notice. #satchat
A5. The second is about a student who used to make me teach in the hallway and refused to enter my class... a few years later and he was one of my star students and we're still in touch even though we've both changed schools. That kid is amazing. #satchat

A5. What a tough question! I have 2 that really stick out. First, I had a student who would not engage in any traditional curriculum. None. However, he was super creative and wicked smart. He ended up creating his own cards for a game Ss were really in to at the time. So

That's great. As with family engagement, so much media outreach (if it exists) is focused on the "special" stuff. That's great too, but if you're making magic every day, share it! #K12PRchat#satchat
A3- As a former education reporter, I loved when teachers invited me in to see a lesson. If you have a very local newspaper, that's an option. Or, make sure to pump out pictures and blurbs to editors. #satchat
Busted my backside to make contact with the 10% of my parents that I couldn't get with tech during Sept/Oct. Still working to reach 4. Some Ps are avoiding the school. What next? #satchat
A5: My own journey from shifting from traditional practices to student empowered, centered & driven practices shared through presenting to other educators. I get to share the learning stories of all my past classes & hopefully inspire others to empower their students!!🌟 #satchat
A6: Advise for collegues yet to share their story: 1. Share it in your favorite space (book, blog, youtube, IG...) 2. (most important). Tell the story to and for the benefit of the reader, or else it's a journal. It must always have value for the reader:) #satchat
A6: Don’t expect anyone to tell your positive school story for you. Principals - be the lead cheerleaders for your schools. Teachers - be the lead for your classrooms. Bring in student and community voice because this will shape your story in the community. #Satchat
A1: Properly telling your school story is the single most effective way to enhance community relations, improve parent communication, promote a positive culture all while advocating for our students. Tell the school story that needs to be told b/c #KidsDeserveIt#satchat#LeadLAP
HERE WE GO...
Q1: We assume people know what happens in schools so why is it important for educators, schools and districts to tell their educational story?
#satchat#satchat
A1 The truth is that most do not really have any idea what goes on inside the school walls. Invite parents in, share, let everyone know all that we do to ensure children get a fair and equitable education! #satchat
A6: know your story before you tell it. What is the beginning, middle, end? What is the lesson or takeaway? Don’t tell anecdotes and let others control the takeaway. Make sure the takeaway matches the story #satchat
That's the end of today's #satchat
This was such a fun and informative chat today.
THANK YOU PLN for participating, collaborating and learning together.
Next week, same day, same time, hope to see you then. Have a great weekend.
We use the golden circle a TON! We used it recently with our District Leadership Team to help figure out why we all needed to work together to move forward. Now we can discuss the what and the how.
I think it starts with us. If we are willing to share with our students, they will be willing to share with us. Then sown the line, they will be able to share more openly with others. #satchat#gen2108
#SatChat A6a At #CUELApalooza a couple weeks back I missed #PlayZtag session. But I bought a pair. I wear one every day since in the hope that I’ll pass someone else who is wearing one. They’re $14 a pair on Amazon. I noted a LOT of positive experiences from the Ts who played. +
A6: collective efficacy- each of our voices lifts all of us. We need these connections. Community is built upon stories and each of our experiences helps others to feel validated, think differently, & perhaps grow. #satchat
Are they avoiding, or are there other issues in their lives that prevent them from engaging? Are you telling their story for them by believing they are avoiding the school? Just something I’m reflecting on. #satchat
I am recalling the advice from a long ago chat: We don't leave digital foot prints, we leave digital tattoos. What you leave behind might last forever. Be selective. #satchat
also, reach out to others and build a group voice, no matter your role. Implore your leaders to build a common voice with you. Strength in numbers. #satchat
See, that's a perfect example. Adobe is THE industry standard. I have it, too. But... schools often don't because it's $$$ and not so intuitive to learn. We should have a "Bad School Website" contest sponsored by @adobe where they revamp the worst 3 and give some swag.
#satchat
#SatChat A6b I guess the story here is to share your story either directly by engaging with peers and telling it. Or by wearing it like I do with the Zombie tag. Someone’s going to stop you in the hallway and want to know more.
Just had a book come out in August - YA historical fiction set in 1969. Currently on a little writing break. My wife tells me there are some jobs that need to be done around the house... #satchathttps://t.co/pUzxFf2ItL
A6: Share your story!! It helps strengthen relationships with colleagues, families and the stakeholders that have a say in the important decisions!! What if your story is the one that shifts the thinking of an important story for the better!! 🌟💥🌎 #satchat#relationshipsfirst
A6 We often teach our students by sharing stories of celebrated people in history. Why wouldn't we take opportunity 2share stories of the educators who stand b4 them each day w/the hardest and most rewarding job in the world...teacher! Share your story & b proud 2do it #satchat
A6. Students sharing with each other is more helpful. At a recent back 2 school evening, where a panel of high school freshmen were asked to share about their high school application experience. My son's final words - "To all the parents out there. Don't worry so much." #satchat
A6. I always encourage colleagues to share more. Collaboration with each other, admin, students and the community creates a more positive culture.
#satchat
#satchat A6 I encourage educators to be bold in sharing their strengths. As a #writer, I have won awards at local and national levels. My strengths as a writer were part of what made me a good #teacher. I know teachers who are also gifted musicians, artists, speakers, etc.
"Curriculum Matters is a No Shame Zone."
Here is the research, and the information about the 'curriculum renaissance,' that we hope to share with our peers. Let's learn together.

A6. Start small, in a safe place with a safe audience. It can happen in your classroom, share a story with students or colleagues. Be honest, open & thoughtful. Your courage could inspire others.
You are spot on @WASEMJEFF it the obligation of the principal to be the lead story teller in your school in becoming a source of community pride! #satchat
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has shown that she better than Trump understands the art of the deal in Washington. She is the one who succeeded in building a wall — and Trump ran right into it.” The Washington Post #Satchathttps://t.co/2olhXhyLV6
A5) A district wide Arts initiative we did a couple of years ago that highlighted the arts to talk about important issues in society. We created an art gallery, where we invited the community and had our musical performances out on YouTube to share with everyone #satchat
A6. Educators who excel at communication have the ability to bring members of the community into the school to experience the joys, challenges, relationships, victories and challenges which mark any day. Only those truly “present” in the school can effectively do this. #satchat
