I'm not 100% sure honestly. I tried to open it one time at school and something wouldn't work.
-
A2 School has Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube channel to celebrate student successes and keep parents in the loop
-
-
how do you ensure responsible usage and that it is a safe place for students to share? Love the idea!
-
Lots of power, but "with that comes great responsibility" -Ben. I have even used it to teach while away from school.
-
-
glad to hear! We'll be making a lot of improvements to ^ soon!

-
Don't have to reinvent the wheel when something works! https://t.co/jnygkHLg0I
-
-
A2. I started using smore to communicate w colleagues. Not 2 creative but nicer format than email.
-
It takes all of your tweets for a particular # and places them into one place - like a story. https://t.co/yVFUGVIDNn
-
-
what is storyfi? I've never heard of it
-
not quite yet but that's a a big request I hear a lot. re team leads - would you want to just msg the leads?
-
A2 I'd also like to expand our use of video to share our story!
-
-
A2 I'm unceasingly amazed at what is considered creative. I've had Voxer for years--the tools are no longer new but the users are!
-
-
-
A2: Started a Google Classroom for the book study this year. Hoping for rich, authentic convo that helps each and everyone grow

A2 we have a local TV station that runs info about our school activities
-
Amazing ideas being shared to connect in multiple ways! Get ready for Q3
-
A2 invite parents to see Google Community
-
Q3 How do you help or educate students when they're not at school?
-
A2.1 Our LMS allows us to share "real-time" info w/ Ss & their Ps. syncs w/. Many avenues.
-
-
I like these chats, I wouldn't have known about half of this tech, a little embarrassed, but so excited to learn
-
I usually do a separate group for them right now, would be nice to msg all but leads respond back
-
-
A3: My Ss can access all class happenings through our
-
Question 3 has posted and it is a great one. https://t.co/xkpjitvoY9

-
-
Q3 How do you help or educate students when they're not at school?
-
A2 We need 2entice our communities 2share in retelling our stories. Better yet, entice them 2Bcome active agents creating stories
-
A3 We live in a world of immediacy w/ information. Tools like & help keep Ss connected to learning
-
Q3 we connect them w/ local resources that support mental health since that is a large struggle for our Ss https://t.co/bFaYkhhLxf
-
-
Q3 How do you help or educate students when they're not at school?
-
-
Don't be embarrassed! A first time for everything, nice to meet you Chris.
-
A3: We use Google classroom, my hope is that someone will take another step and flip their class.
-
A3 has a great LMS where students can connect from anywhere. We are also using blended learning!
-
A3 Learning while not in school is blasphemy...jk, combo of remind, hangouts, and G Drive
-
understood. I'll share this feedback with our engineering team
-
A3 some of my Ts use - awesome app to connect students & their families to classroom
-
Google Classroom, especially now that it has a place for the guardian contact info to share. Ss & Ps in one place
-
We are going to use as the medium for our SLCs in the spring as a P/T conf replacement.
-
We are loving Seesaw, especially for Ss with iPads. https://t.co/7aMzE45c7U
-
-
A3 some of my Ts use - awesome app to connect students & their families to classroom
-
A2 Online via Sakai Chat w students last night. Today messaged some via phone. Univ students LOVE having short TED talks in class
-
A3 Mostly Google Classroom, Ss have access to all slide decks so easy for them to catch up remotely, will also email and text Ss
-
Google Classroom is getting REALLY GOOD these days... Google is taking over edu.
-
-
A3 By using Skyward, and with Edmodo! The Ss think it's Christmas when I comment on their thought posts!
-
-
All is right with the world then. :)
-
Time is really flying...like the W flag for the ! Get ready for Q4
-
A3 offer to help before, during or after school. Ask for help turning on computers and other jobs to get some students to school.
-
A3 plus you can add parents to Google Classroom now - has moved convo away from completion of work to S performance and mastery
-
Q4 How do you encourage parents to become partners in student learning?
-
What is Skyward? Never heard of it.
-
Sorry for the jinx Cubs fans!
-
I have seen GC even work great with primary Ss this year. One location for all things even with multiple teachers.
-
-
A4: I try to communicate with them through email, social media and to make them feel invested. https://t.co/emdvpjPumG
-
-
Q4 How do you encourage parents to become partners in student learning?
-
A4 Share the research - strong correlation between P involvement & S wellness & achievement. Be accessible & listen.
-
A4 I ran a summer camp for 4th and 5th graders for Chem. Had a parent in lab day! Make them part of what you do!
-
A4: invite them into the classroom with Twitter, , and Show them what students are doing all day!
-
A4 Genuinely welcome them to the school. If they don't want to come, offer to meet them where they are comfortable!
-
A3 A bit diff at univ level, but most Ss appreciate faculty who reach out, communicate beyond school hours. https://t.co/I0Ng00FaqU
-
-
Q3 How do you help or educate students when they're not at school?
-
A3 I work w/Ts. Try 2 model/engage w/transferable tools. Tonite I was coaching Ts through synchronous comments on Google doc
-
A4: We host a Parent University every other month. Topics are based on feedback from parents and teachers.
-
A3. This might not be what you're looking for, but-By asking them to disconnect from school and just be kids. recharge.
-
A4.2 My son's K teacher last year, shared a picture of his STEM project on Twitter last year and it was awesome.
-
A4: We need the parent ed connection to be easy, not ten websites for 2 kids. Make it easy, no fuss like
-
A4 Started with Beyond the Bake Sale chat with parents. Continues with family nights/principal chats/PTO. https://t.co/LR1zuDYS8Z
-
-
Q4 How do you encourage parents to become partners in student learning?
-
A4 Invite Ps into the decision making process. Communicate with them in their language! (Cut our the edu-jargon, too)
-
-
Transparency in the Ss progress. In a digital world there should be no surprises at the end of a semester.
-
Q4. On opening curriculum night I had parents an assignment to take home for Ss to work on. Due 3 days. Separate Sand, NaCl, Fe
-
A4 we encourage students by sharing the positives, goals, or accomplishments of their Ss, SWIS & CICO data sharing
-
A4 use to post pics, happy calls home, make some early positive deposits for when you need to make some withdrawals
-
A4 Not enough... Maybe it's time I create a Remind for Ps
-
-
A4 when their world is the celebrity...doesn't take much more ;) celebrate kids
-
A4: some flipped rooms, student-led conferences, newsletters, curriculum night, principal coffees, Google classroom
-
A4 call home for more good reasons than bad, ask them to be partner in S's ed, always let them know how much you care for their S
-
-
That's actually one of our larger use cases
-
Yes! Plus easy to create multiple classrooms for differentiation esp at primary level
-
A4 weekly e-mail newsletter from the classroom. Thinking about getting kids to write it in teams.
-
Love this Donna! I agree start happy, get that relationship early! https://t.co/igNOQrdiP0
-
-
A4 use to post pics, happy calls home, make some early positive deposits for when you need to make some withdrawals
-
A4.3 I started a group for my Ss this year. Sometimes they don't like to check email or
-
The key is to get the kids to write it. That way Ps will definitely read it! https://t.co/X7S6mwI0TZ
-
-
A4 weekly e-mail newsletter from the classroom. Thinking about getting kids to write it in teams.
-
Happy calls home and can be a great way to encourage Ps!
-
well said, nobody likes to be caught off guard in IEP meetings as it relates to goals & benchmarks
-
I believe it, not all Ps jump on Twitter or FB or even gradebook, but they usually can get texts
-
I think this is often overlooked. Ts and Ss get so excited about tech, but parents are left in the dark.
-
A4: Parents informed/involved is so important! Newsletters, tech ,positive phone calls home = game changer https://t.co/sDF4RmHs2w
-
-
Q4 How do you encourage parents to become partners in student learning?
-
That's awesome. Do you find it works well? would love to hear if there is anything we can improve!
-
A4 My wife has a group for her 2nd grade Ps. No lost papers, no excuses. Informed & empowered Ps!
-
Important question in this digital age! Q5 coming up next!
-
Q5 How do you reach families who don't have consistent access to internet or devices?
-
I love being able to hit ALL my Ss through I had some Ps refuse messages for some reason
-
A4 Our SEL program sends quality notes home from teachers once a week.
-
A4 Nonexample! Frustrated parent convo 2day. Helped S w/homework. All wrong. Contacted T w/?. Response: 2late; we've moved on.
-
-
Work with those who are willing, others will come around!
-
A5 It is a challenge! Interested in listening!
-
it would create great buy in, especially in the younger grades, harder in HS I feel
-
A5 paper option during registration and no assumptions - don't hear back? Make a call.
-
-
Odd. I'd love to understand why at some point
-
A5 Don't do this well enough. I do call or send info in mail. We could invite them to school for access. https://t.co/IKqwLFXUiD
-
-
Q5 How do you reach families who don't have consistent access to internet or devices?
-
Great point https://t.co/tjVhjs7DsL
-
-
I believe it, not all Ps jump on Twitter or FB or even gradebook, but they usually can get texts
-
A5: Invite families into the school/classroom on a regular basis.
-
A5 We have been working to make sure that $ isnt an issue for Ss devices. If they need $ for a repair, we will work with families
-
This year as a T/C it's great as Ts add me to their GC. Helps me know where they are, and provide better support,
-
Fair point. I just want to make sure it's not something we're doing that is confusing!
-
A4 If we want parents 2support student learning we better be sure parents understand the what/why/how. A changing world 4everyone!
-
-
Nothing on your end! I need to be more persuasive!
-
I agree with this text seems to be the platform to push info to open conversations https://t.co/qFBzRtrCtW
-
-
Great point https://t.co/tjVhjs7DsL
-
-
I believe it, not all Ps jump on Twitter or FB or even gradebook, but they usually can get texts
-
A5 agreed, it's always a struggle, especially in low SES families with sporadic phone service of changing #'s
-
A5 There are grants to get people connected right?
-
A5: have done home visits before & then find a way that works for the family when we reach out
-
A5 we have high STLS population, have contact info for other family members with more/stable tech access to pass message along
-
This is a fantastic idea!
-
-
A5 Again.... Not enough... Google-Remind me to set up a remind for Ps
-
I have not tried text this year, but I will make that my next push for parent communication. Thanks for the idea.
-
A5 Phones are pretty omnipresent these days. I think just about everyone can be reached via texts or phone calls.
-
-
Q6 How do you show transparency or accountability with communication?
-
Ya. We also have been redesigning the 'invite' page to give more options and make it simpler.
-
A6: One of my favorite features of is that the messages don't go away! Can't take anything back you say! Always there!
-
A5: Newsletters, but that phone call home on how amazing their kid is can change their whole day https://t.co/XCwHJhQMxZ
-

YES! Not everyone thinks about those kinds of things as they try new opportunities for Ss
