is a life saver for chats! https://t.co/mjng1sVweT
tip: Use TweetDeck and have two columns open for the chat; one for real time and one for where you are in the chat.
4th grade in solana beach. Excited to learn!
Hey Mary! Stay and talk tech with us!
Hi Letty, Kinder Tt from Ventura County
Q1 - What is the biggest obstacle you have faced with using tech in the classroom and how did you overcome it?
Prin at Monte Vista Independent Learning Academy in Simi Valley CA
H. S. English teacher hoping she just stumbled across something amazing at this late (for Florida) hour.
A1: Connectivity - took our IT department a long time to get things right.
Thanks Paul! Say hi to if he is modding !
A1: Getting others onboard. Not easy to innovate when it can create inequity.
A1: Having too many things blocked. Showed admin how it can be used w/ Ss. Most are open now.
I understand that one! RT A1: Connectivity - took our IT department a long time to get things right.
Darren Massa from Chico. I'll be in and out depending on my kids and their willingness to sleep.
iJust shared some goofy related Picture Prompts📝for HS Ss.
A1: Rigid pacing/curriculum guide. Tech was taking us outside of the box, I needed the freedom to go for it. Admin support was key
A1: Building a culture of risk taking with Ss. It took time and patience, but SO worth it!
A1 -- Troubleshooting (kid and teacher)
Well that's one of the best tips of the day! 2 Columns - go figure! Thanks! https://t.co/Prt3uev1eI
is a life saver for chats! https://t.co/mjng1sVweT
tip: Use TweetDeck and have two columns open for the chat; one for real time and one for where you are in the chat.
Great! RT A1: Having too many things blocked. Showed admin how it can be used w/ Ss. Most are open now.
A1: Wifi issues that slow down/impede the lesson! Taught kids how to switch wifi networks and IT finally (2 years) fixed!!
Really helps when the chat goes so fast!
Leila here from Escondido joining the folks!
A1:Biggest tech obstacles were lack of (started w/5 iPods) &parent concerns we were just playing vid games all day...
a1: my original frustration was having to find time when no one was using the comp lab. 1:1 pilot in my class helped solve prob
A1 Lack of support with ed tech is a huge obstacle.
Hard to convince others that you can make up the time in the end when you have covered things in tangents
Glad they got you fixed up now though!
A1: sites being blocked. How many times have I created a lesson around something awesome discovered at home that is blocked @ work
A1: Not enough exposure, my class was connecting but the rest of my school, admin and parents, didn’t see it or value it YET
:( RT A1 Lack of support with ed tech is a huge obstacle.
You beat me to it. Connectivity & solid infrastructure were our first problems & solutions. Rewired/upgraded whole school
A1 Wearing my parent hat.. Teacher/admin to me: "Kids will bully each other". I shared what I learned about it. No changes.
A1 Everyone worries about lack of devices. They can share!
A1: Initially obstacle was bandwidth. Better access points and routers helped overcome it.
A1:Ss at such varying levels of tech savvy: with 36 kids in each class, the pacing is tough trying to get all to complete.
Yikes! RT A1: my class was connecting but the rest of my school, admin and parents, didn’t see it or value it YET
A1 ...not knowing how to do something...and letting the kids show me the way! Best lessons come from kids! :)
Yes! Just in time because our 1150 kid MS is now 1:1 -- so exciting!
A1: Biggest obstacle has been with colleagues willing to try new tech or ANY tech in classroom.
A1. Not enough bandwidth. I do an interpretive dance for the rest of my presentation.
Q1 - availability of wifi/devices. Grants used for devices, and begged for wifi access. Make friends with the tech guys!
A1: big challenge for me is equity. If one teacher gets something cool, all want it!
Hi all...Todd, elem principal from Newport Beach, CA! Like waiting on sleeping kiddos!
A1: The biggest challenge was the wifi. It kept crashing. The IT dept fixed the problem when they upgraded our network.
A1cont: Addressed parent concerns w/communication--what we're doing, how tech improved learning opps, student privacy/safety
A1: currently my lagging computer or internet
From not enough to one for everyone! Awesome
A1: As with other subjects, working with differing Ss kills levels is a challenge
A1 At work (adult learning experience design).. tech's expensive. We got PowerPoint. Security. I use tech in my design process..
We had the same issue. Change in IT leadership made our world a whole lot bigger for tech!
So happy to see my friend here tonight!
Just two years? Better than most ;-)
A1) Honestly, confidence in my own skills. Kids have no fear. Embraced tech for them. Because !
Keeps you on your toes right?
A1 my own fears that I won't use it effectively, then it gets in the hands of my Ss and magic happens
My solution was to learn to manage our filter. Now I have the power (insert evil laugh here). https://t.co/Yw3omrfbeS
A1: Having too many things blocked. Showed admin how it can be used w/ Ss. Most are open now.
Very excited about tonight's topic -- perfect for our first week as a 1:1 school, you should join!
A1 Some of the stuff (ideas I pick up from you all -- PLN) is pretty out there in adult learner land. Tech prototypes help lots.
A1 Lots of Ts worry about kids going to the "dark" side with computers. Must coach them it's not different from any other behavior
So sad to see that many are saying "no support" - I hope that is changing soon!
Lol-- so true!! Luckily our tech dept has been amazing about keeping up w/quick growth in number devices
A1: Being told that my Ss can't do it bc they were too young (3rd gr @ time), were ELLs, or just not 'ready'.Did my thing anyway
A1b: As a coach for 1:1, getting Ts to see that enhances rather that detracts from the learning experience
We TOSAs have to make sure teachers know we are ready to help!
Aargh! That’s so difficult. Nothing worse. It really puts Ts off using tech when that happens. https://t.co/hzfYjZtxmU
A1: sites being blocked. How many times have I created a lesson around something awesome discovered at home that is blocked @ work
A1: Wifi always seems to be an issue but we make sure to have aback up plan. Do you?
Hopefully you won't have the same issue in August - fingers crossed
A1: Getting teachers beyond using devices as replacement computers! PD was huge...as was patience!
Tech support or integration support or both?
Varying level of tech savvy - and academic savvy - is HUGE.
Mine as well. Just rewired and new access points in every classroom. Next step campus wide.
Yes! RT We TOSAs have to make sure teachers know we are ready to help!
A1: Inconsistencies with tech and struggling to find quick fixes
I work @ a 1:1 school and one of my biggest problems is keeping kids focused on using the tech for education not gaming.
This is where the fallacy of “digital natives” comes in. I’ve found so many are not tech savvy (but will learn).
I am already missing my Innovations class, but they gave me a whole year for next year. Can't wait.
A1: How I've overcome it? I try to make sure all classrooms get to do something unique even if not same. https://t.co/Rsd773GPwS
A1: big challenge for me is equity. If one teacher gets something cool, all want it!
A1 Having an educator as the head tech guy makes a BIG difference
haha, same here! learned to check first
Yes!!! Don't just slide out a textbook and slide in a Chromebook!
Ugh, so true! Just unblocked this year... So happy!!
A1: Free websites are not always around tomorrow. Have to stay on your toes
Appreciate the honesty! We are often our greatest deterrents. Anticipation often worse than reality
😮So sorry. I had the opposite happen. I ended up adopting Tech for the whole School.
I am so glad that in we have an awesome EdTech TOSA team and
A1: I had no computers for my tech class. we shared and borrowed to make it happen. It was crazy, but it worked.
Both! We need to coach how to use devices, and what to do with them1
That is another way to do it :)
as edtech coach I find that 1-on-1 help works best with these Ts.
A1: My biggest obstacles are older devices, a not so robust network , and what to do with the fast finishers.
A1: realizing using tech for school is VERY different than tech for fun, still have to teach Ss how to use the tech
What's exciting is that the helper Ss are sometimes ones who haven't felt success at school before. Awesome!
Exactly! We are 1:1 in 4th-6th...devices were initally just being used to type papers or use Accel. Reader!
True! I started w/5 iPods for 25 3rd graders and we were able to do so much!
A1 Sometimes I hear Ts say how (to them) it appears Ss work magic w/tech.. https://t.co/HjKvX1WBpn .. message we want to send?
-----------------> Q2 is up next. Watch for
Yes, PD a must so devices aren't just glorified textbooks
I'm sure it was crazy but I bet it was fun too. It's pretty cool to remind Ss we can do it the old fashion way too
This needs more than a RT! Yes, PD a must so devices aren't just glorified textbooks
yes that is true we spend so much time looking for great resources only to have a tech malfunction ruin it
iHad this old Dummy'sGuide to the Internet. Intro read: Find a 9yr old... 🙊
This is so true (and funny!)
Always have a back up plan right?
A1: not enough devices; honestly it's not overcome yet!
Q2 - Once you hear about a new tech tool, what criteria do you use to determine if you’ll implement it in your classroom?
So true! It takes a shift in thinking for the kids. RT
Good for u.Our school is 76% ELLs and 94% free & reduced lunch. That’s why I did everything I could 2 get tech.
yep. Behavior is behavior. Can't blame the tool, have to manage the classroom.
A1: The hardest part was acquiring the devices/wifi! Then, having IT support and PD for other staff in order to show its value!
RT Q2 - Once you hear about a new tech tool, what criteria do you use to determine if you’ll implement it?
Love it! Trying to move from fixed to everyday!
A2 Sure helps if it's free!
A2: Start with basics: cost, platform, GAFE integration. Then look for reviews from other teachers, Graphite, PLN. Then I try it!
Yes! And management in 1:1 is very different. Student centered vs teacher centered! https://t.co/3OcFGpHaYe
yep. Behavior is behavior. Can't blame the tool, have to manage the classroom.
ill enable restrictions until they can play by my rules, usually stops the problem
This is so true. Support is a must. https://t.co/4F0l4chp8z
A1: The hardest part was acquiring the devices/wifi! Then, having IT support and PD for other staff in order to show its value!
A2: Can I do something with it in 5 minutes? If I can't, it's not worth showing to Ts, as they don't have time.
Hello Leslie, Nice to see you here.
Hopefully there's also focus on 1:2 and 1:3 ... Interaction is critical https://t.co/oRurDHMjZn
Very excited about tonight's topic -- perfect for our first week as a 1:1 school, you should join!
A2: I love testing new tools like Osmo, Aquos SB, Chromebooks, etc… I dive in and have the support to learn.
A2: Honestly...first off, is it free? Too often we pay for tools when there are equally good (or better) free tools available.
A2: Ts need to have a purpose for the tech, not just tech for tech sake. It MUST enhance the learning!
Where is Q2? We want to engage but can't find the questions. Help a fellow educator out
A2: I look for reviews from trusted sources and from , then I try it out myself.
A2: 2 things: 1. Does it improve something we are currently using? 2. Does it fill a need currently unfilled?
We've been expanding tech coaching. Ts as site coaches last 2yr &I'm district tech coach this yr
A2: I ask myself, will it improve learning for students or make things better for students and is it in our budget.
RT A2: Honestly...first off, is it free? Too often we pay for tools when there are equally good free tools available.
A2: do I think I can be ready to use it with Ss in less than 20 minutes?
A2-is it free, is it a tool that does something different than present tools, does it help Ss demonstrate learning?
A2: It starts with the learning goal. Does the tools support/extend the learning or detract from it
A2: Does it enhance the learning experience and/or increase efficiency?
A2: I give it to my students and ask “What can you do with this?”
A2: I usually check it out myself to see if I think it will enhance lesson or be a distraction. Then try out on just 1 class.
A2 I design adult learning experiences.. tech tools I use tend not be be during training events. I use for ideation/prototyping..
Looks like the big winner for Q2 is ease of use for end users!
A2 Will it enhance the learning outcome? If yes and is user friendly on Chrome Books, give it a try!
Q2: I used to feel I had TO BE AN EXPERT on it, now I'm so much better with risk and we truly figure it out together.
A2: Honestly, I look for FREE right at the beginning b/c getting $ for tech is hard. Then I go to engagement & production value
A2: Do I use something like it already? Will it integrate w GClassroom? Is it necessary? Will it enhance pedagogy?
A2: I also usually have a class test it before I use it with more than one class.
A2: Is it FREE? Not just a Freemium. I do not like to recommend a product that requires a payment to get their best features.
Great plan! RT A2: I also usually have a class test it before I use it with more than one class.
A2 student engagement and monitoring. most of the time it's hit and miss
great to hear! We LOVE providing edtech support-also go into classes all the time to model ed tech use
The best way to evaluate and discover uses for most tech is to dive right in and get students using it. https://t.co/rUannKNtZ0
A2 I'm game to try just about anything.. the more cognitive dissonance I experience from a new app(lication) the more I wanna.
Yes we have to be patient as Ts begin to understand more about SAMR and how it can support higher level thinking
A2: If it sounds good when I first hear of it...Try it! Why not? Not much criteria involved. Evaluate after 1st use
Kids figure this stuff out WAY faster than we ever could! https://t.co/SZGYnZnara
Q2: I used to feel I had TO BE AN EXPERT on it, now I'm so much better with risk and we truly figure it out together.
Sweet late potatoes...I'm missing it
A2: if site or app I try it out, then have a couple Ts act as my Ss to see how that piece works, cool doesn't always equal useful
A2) I have a Google Keep note for new or interesting apps. Apps sit there until I have a lesson that's an academic match.
We're using - Chromium replaces Windows XP on old PC's w/ Google OS PC 2 chromebook !
Q2 Once you hear about a new tech tool, what criteria do you use to determine if you’ll implement it in your classroom?
Yes! Great to know what other teachers are thinking about the tool
Love Keep for things like this!
A2: Does it enhance student learning? Linked to standards? Too easy to get whisked away by claims with no research.
A2: Cost? Reliablility? Ease of use for S & T? Reviews? Does it allow for a new form of communication/collaboration among groups?
A2:With new tech tools I look at cost & how it will change instruction and improve lrning
When I was in the classroom, I had my Ss try out new apps to see if it was worth using!
FREE!!!! is one of my favorite words, As I say in my "FLIP" workshops.
A2: Can't be just fluff-has to have a real purpose! Make things easier for Ts, Ss, or both!
Watch for and - they are putting the questions out tonight!
A2: From the Admin side. How does the tool handle student information?
A2: I ask how does this benefit Ss?-- A time/benefit analysis
I don’t mind Freemium if I can try out the best features 1st. Then I’ll know if it is worth the money.
So true . Sometimes a new tool looks good but falls apart when we use it with our class.
Great thought! RT A2: From the Admin side. How does the tool handle student information?
A2 In my next job I hope to use tech a LOT more than currently. During interviews I share examples from lots o' apps.
So important! Kids under 13 can't just "sign in with Google"
A2. A new tech tool should be handy and serve the teaching objectives. If So, can use it.
A2 Will it enhance instruction, engage students. Is it a skill Ss need? Is it used in the "real world"?
A2: I determine how I can integrate it into curriculum and its effectiveness
A2:I need tech to help Ss further communicate their learning to a larger audience. That is my mantra:Does it help them find voice?
A2: Does it add value beyond what I already use? What standard/skill will it help my Ss learn?
Right on! As the educator, gauge whether a good fit or not, based on using
Yep, I've had that happen more than once.
Yes! Don't use tech just because. It has to serve a purpose! https://t.co/xF5zjv7No6
A2: Can't be just fluff-has to have a real purpose! Make things easier for Ts, Ss, or both!
A2: Can Ss use it w/o creating an account if under 13
Kathy from Pleasanton joining a little late
A2: Another thing I consider are the number of programs or apps we are currently implementing...don't want to overload Ts plates!
There are thousands of places that are still not signing on to declare how they are protecting Ss Info.
A2. Also check app/tool policies...working with Ss under 13, it's an important step!
Super important one! RT A2: Can Ss use it w/o creating an account if under 13
Yes! Tech needs to be the tool. If it engages Ss, great! If it causes chaos... not good. https://t.co/JgHYyX5fIo
A2: It starts with the learning goal. Does the tools support/extend the learning or detract from it
Mary, I haven't started using Keep yet, I need a demo at our Schoolwires meeting next week please!
Yes! RT A2. Also check app/tool policies...working with Ss under 13, it's an important step!
A2 One thing I can't wait to try during an actual adult learning experience: Kahoot. Imagine (butts-out-of-seats) excitement
Yes, I agree. I got hooked on Nearpod's great features then I had to pay for them.
A2- Does it have a use in my content? Easy to use for Ss and can I share with other Ts in a brief introduction?
A2b: It is essential to have the END in mind when using new tech tools. Call it backwards planning or Understanding by Design
Oh yeah! I need in on that one!
Yes! We TOSAs study this for hours sometimes, to see what is safe to use
does it improve or change up something already used? A Novelty can also stimulate Ss learning
A2 Can this be part of the learning WITH our kids? Help learn the process of critical review and then make independent choices...
If there is a tool you think you like and would like to use. Recommend they BeAPro through IKeepSafe
A2: Is it effective? Does it enhance learning? Are Ss engaged? If the answer is yes, then it should be implemented.
Which does NOT include "sign in with Google"
If it does, I create an acct & give Ss access. We all use it.
Funny you mention that. I’m curious about - What do I need to know?
-----------------> Q3 is set. Watch for
Lets the Ss figure it out. Also letting Ss choose what works best for them helps them to take ownership. https://t.co/G5ykVJujVF
Very true! Sometimes, changing things up keeps students motivated!
I stopped using Nearpod because of the cost. Was a big supporter before then.
A2 do Ss like it , can it support writing, reading, language and allow Ss to create resources from it
What a great strategy for supporting teachers.
Q3 - How can tech help students who have difficulty in “traditional” classrooms? Give examples if possible.
And most fall under the teaching category of "they will figure it out faster than you can teach it."
My favorite secondary EdTech TOSA has Q3
A2:I work with my to see if it will help them-They've good insight& it's nice to see them take control of their learning
A3: Tech allows for more in how they demonstrate understanding
Love tangrams and kids love Masterpiece. Grades 1&2 love Words.
A3: Tech allows for students to be creators and not just consumers. Some kids need this element.
So powerful! RT A3: Tech allows for more in how they demonstrate understanding
I love the ease of creating your own lessons. And they can be easily shared with other Ts, iPads work best.
A3: For someone like me who was shy, tech gives them voice and creativity. Valuable skills for future. &
Telagami-When it changed- I paid for the eduversion & got less than originally published for free! sad day https://t.co/1Nhvtsy0lH
Yes, I agree. I got hooked on Nearpod's great features then I had to pay for them.
A3a One way is reducing worry. Nixing the TI graphing calc & using a free app means less stress from parent at home..
A3: Using backchannels like or give quiet students a voice
A2: How much time is needed to setup? Do I need to involve IT folks?
A3: Technology allows us to personalize learning for . All Ss learn differently so why not try to level the playing field
Agreed, but also, in the case of some apps, as long as it "hooks" the S to move to purpose, it works
A3: Some of my Ss use voice typing to get their stories out.
Love this ! https://t.co/PJ3mEElYl1
A2 One thing I can't wait to try during an actual adult learning experience: Kahoot. Imagine (butts-out-of-seats) excitement
Have any favorite creation tools?
A3: Ss might find their passion in technology! Future coders need a spark to start
A3. Tech can enhance S communication. Also assist them access information. Confidence builder.
A3. Voice! Ss posted Qs on Gclassroom discussion. The quietest student in class answered the Q's. I watched, it was amazing!
A3: S use dictation apps for writing, and love google research tool for footnoting!
A3. I love Google Docs voice typing tool, read aloud function on our databases/WorldBook.
A3: Tech allows ss that have trouble producing quality “looking” work to create amazing things they’re proud to show.
A3: Tech gives students voice and choice! It allows for a new means of communication, creation, collaboration, and inquiry!
A3: I see Ss who struggle in other classes shine and become leaders when coding.
Yes! Easier to "talk" in the chat window of a collaborative doc for some
Ah yes, that too! Having Ss test run & brainstorm uses is helpful for us and empowering for Ss https://t.co/4uXlR6581e
When I was in the classroom, I had my Ss try out new apps to see if it was worth using!
A3 Love that allows my marginalized Ss a way to communicate comfortably. Have seen friendships grow that would not have.
me too. I still use it though but definitely not as much.
Tell Ss what they need to demonstrate not HOW they demonstrate it!
A3 - So many tools online that help struggling Ss/Ss really, from videos they can watch over, to add-on that read text for them.
A3-Ss can revise EASILY, all S work look professional, SPED kids, ELLs, challenged learners can all feel successful!
Q3: Personalized learning. Not everybody gets it how I say it. Some need to read, listen, draw, watch, work, etc.
A3: Tech is great for differentiation
A3:I have a S w/Selective Mutism:Used "Today's Meet"(anonymous chat room) & now hear her voice for every discussion. Her mom cried.
A3: Tech provides alternatives in curating, analyzing and creating content. Difficulty writing? Tell as video story
we use numerous online programs and 'Tech'niques for our Ind Study Ss Apex & Shmoop to name 2
A3: tech gives Ss voice who were otherwise silent. Used 3D blueprint site. Ss fought over who got to use it not one do all work
What I love about voice typing is it actually involves more critical editing - they don’t even realize it https://t.co/7RdDOPql6M
A3: Some of my Ss use voice typing to get their stories out.
Loving the most people are saying the tech gives all students a voice in the classroom for Q3
A3: Adaptive extensions can improve learning outcomes. I am trying out Voice Typing in Google Docs with Ss who need support.
A3: super shy Ss can present via screencast, motor issues can use speech to text, slow readers can use text to speech
A3: Way more choices for Ss than a traditional paper/pencil/textbook room.
A3: Tech allows students a variety of ways to show their understanding, thinking, and learning.
A3 inspire engagement from ALL students who might remain quiet in class.
A3. I love Voicethread for S discussions. Collaborative convo for even the shyest Ss!
A3: Allowing students to work independently allows me to move around and work 1 on 1 with those who need it.
A3: tech can support such a wide variety of learners! Voice to text is a favorite for those quick thinkers!
A3 Tech can read to the students, write for the students we use the free Read &Write, Speechpad, g(math), voice typing...
Good point! I sometimes get overzealous as tech coach and have to reign myself in :)
Tech provides avenues for both Ts and Ss for learning without presence. Sports release, Dr Appt, Field Trip etc...
A3 Kids use Explain Everything to explain everything!
Some create videos, songs, websites, social media pages, businesses, video games, etc. Those are the end results.
Love voice typing. Can't really find a text to speech option that I like. No budget to pay for anything.
Personalized learning, that's it. Ss can use tools available to fit their needs as learners. https://t.co/al72KZqKgJ
Q3: Personalized learning. Not everybody gets it how I say it. Some need to read, listen, draw, watch, work, etc.
I love for student creation
A3: When we play minecraft as a class, Ss who are behind on social skills but ahead on gaming can really shine!
A3 I was K-12 S from '60 - '74. Having today's tech back then= not having to take T's word for everything: interest-based searches
A3: Tech allows every S to have a personalized education plan. This is especially true with adaptive tech. Ss get what they need.
A3: I use the “In-Class Flip” model and shy Ss can ask questions directly to T without worrying about other Ss in class.
LOVE Read & Write! https://t.co/lj0LSGojNT
A3 Tech can read to the students, write for the students we use the free Read &Write, Speechpad, g(math), voice typing...
also Ss brains are incredibly different than many adults as they have lived their entire lives exposed to tech.
A3: also love for the shy, quiet Ss
Just had sts try . vids are fast. Kids tried/ failed/ failed again/ didn't give up. This is learning to problem solve
So true! It's always nice to see find their voice through ! What has been ur favorite moment?
A3: Allows differentiation to pacing, delivery differences, ability to review and revisit content, Ss can create and meaning make
I saw that demo’ed this weekend. I’m going to have to check it out.
A3: allows for more student choice & creativity, ❤️ the variety of assignments I get turned in, makes grading more fun
A3 many more opportunities to showcase learning through photography, movies, game design, and use of accessibility features
I'm in the same situation
A3:Many web-based math programs are now adaptive to the Ss and their learning is very personalized. We use: iReady and FrontRow
We are making the most of what we have: GAFE. Ss think it's fun and learn to speak punctuation quickly.
Q3: Tech gives Ss an avenue to demonstrate what is asked of them via a personalized medium through which they create own pathway
A3: we use Padlet and Linoit to work with our friends overseas
Yes! More kids can find their niche. Maybe not a sports star, but is a minecraft star!!
A3: not to mention my Ss who can't speak and use tech as primary mode of communication!
A3b: Tech allows Ss the chance to showcase their learning beyond traditional means!
A3 I wonder how retired workers might answer that question based on how they learned back in the day?
It will be worth your time and effort!
A3- Our Chromebooks allow my Ss to collaborate better- Its way more powerful when every person has a voice.
A3 Tech allows them to show their creativity. Stop motion videos, green screen, Pow Toons, coding - Scratch ...
Indeed make it easier. Can reproduce with little tweaks, faster, slower, more scaffoliding, less.
How did you hook up with the overseas school?
a3: more individual accountability. Now Ts can track if Ss are providing equal work for group assignments
This is such a fun way for everyone to participate and have their input count!
We just finished an Animated Film Festival for Cell Division. So much creativity.
A3 So many ways! I sat thru coding w a class - ALL students could do this and were engaged!
A3:Tech allows introverted Ss voice, allows for working at own pace, options for sharing ideas and learning
My ss are enjoying BuzzMath as well. Great probs, engaging style, cross platform.
A3: Any good tech ideas for math?
-----------------> Q4 is coming very soon. Look for tweet!
I'd say that's science, tech, and literacy! Way to go Corey, sounds awesome!
I use several times a year in my class. https://t.co/8BVU6PKx9H
This is such a fun way for everyone to participate and have their input count!
Do you have teachers worry about inappropriate comments coming up? How do you handle?
A3: I like to show the students where I get all my answers and how I got to be so smart (sarcasm). https://t.co/mkprjpHOp0
Non-traditional students too would probably like tech as much as others, too.
Thanks! I'll have to check it out. What grade?
my thailand connection is moving to cambodia next year and we still have a $3k grant to spend.
This is KEY!! https://t.co/fvCv8Wa3Zi
A3: Technology allows us to personalize learning for . All Ss learn differently so why not try to level the playing field
I LOVE Powtoon. Takes some getting used to, but students LOVE it and so do I
Q4 - What advice can you give to assist other teachers who are overwhelmed with integrating technology into their lessons?
Mitosis? Or My TOSAs? Sorry, terrible inside joke!
Late arrival: Mark Loundy
Instructional technology specialist and K-5 maker space chief in Silicon Valley.
is happening now.
As you can gather, its on California Education!
A4: Understand the importance of risk taking. It's a skill we want for our students and we need to demonstrate it! !
it provides them an opportunity to show that they really do get it even if they can't express it in English
Same here! Ss pick it up fast, and it looks polished.
we use Mr. Thompsons resources he is alighned with Math in Focus.
Q4: Don't be afraid to take a risk. It may not work, but you will grow from it and you may be surprised.
will report back on bank of PC/chromebooks. Cool thing? can Run in kiosk mode: one program to make learning statn
A3 take it one step at a time. Understand the why & find tech to accomplish that.
So many to choose from. Hearing from parents how their struggling kids now love school is probably the best moments.
A4: You don't have to do everything at once. Try one thing and then add something else.
Personalized lrning such a huge benefit of tech
RT Q4 - What advice can you give other teachers who are overwhelmed with integrating technology into their lessons?
A4: Tech Integration is like trying to move an elephant. Don’t run up and try to move it. You have to slowly coax it along.
Please tell me more about "In-Class Flip" I'm not familiar and I'm super intrigued!
Love for math graphing. Love for videos and "hints" for solving problems
A4. Move slowly, find a partner, and expect mistakes to happen. Integrating tech is a learning process.
RT Q4: Don't be afraid to take a risk. It may not work, but you will grow from it and you may be surprised.
A4. Collaborate! Ask your PLN, get that tech savvy S involved, and admit to Ss you're trying something new.
A4: When you try something, try it multiple times before you give up. Sometimes it just takes time and experience
Do you have class set or learnning station? Seems great for fractions and decimals
A4: Don't be afraid to give kids control. Be honest and tell them you don't know how to do something. They'll show you!
A4: I offer time each week to come in to support Ts w/ tech (or anything else!) Also will release colleague to help overwhelmed T
Thanks, I'd love to hear about it. Was it difficult to convert the devices?
A4: Expect tech difficulties and learn to be flexible. Search for new tech tools with the lesson in mind
Personally, my 5th graders don't mess w me & tech. I fake knowing all early on in the yr.
A3 tech allows Ss more comfortable w the language to shine so traditional methods are still needed to keep an an even keel
A3: love coding apps for letting my Ss with ASD explore something they may excel in (many do!)
A4- Start a little at a time. Try it once- see if it works to enhance a well established lesson (Substitution is a STARTER).
A3: MinecraftEdu is giving some of our quiet 4th graders RockStar status because they are the geniuses!
A4) Build your repertoire slowly.
Can't tell you how many times I started class with, "It sounded good in my head" :-) https://t.co/1IAsh83cI5
A4. Collaborate! Ask your PLN, get that tech savvy S involved, and admit to Ss you're trying something new.
A4 - Start with open ended opportunity of tech integration, let Ss decided how tech is used during a project & give up control
Yes, we use Front Row, Sokikom and Ten Marks. They are a great way to meet individual needs.
Q4 I train my 5th gders on etc and send them to other classes to assist Ts and Ss who are trying for 1st time.
A4: Set your boundaries (rules) and have a discipline structure. Then let them play. You do not need to be the knowledge keeper
A4: Try to integrate one item at a time. See out support when needed. Look for tech that solves a problem or fulfills a need.
A4: Find an expert and then copy what they did first. Don't start something new on your own right away
A4: Find a mentor. Ask them where to start. Find ONE thing that interests you and dive in. People try to take on too much to fast
RT A4: Don't be afraid to give kids control. Be honest and tell them you don't know how to do something.
A4: start small, pick 1 app/site/whatever to try first, get comfortable with that then try others
A4: Don't think you have to be the expert! Introduce the platform and let the kids figure it out! They'll teach you later
A4: Our Ss NEED to be proficient and comfortable with tech for their future and we must teach and model tech use NOW.
A4: A supportive Admin is like a well packed parachute. It allows you to take the leap of faith.
Q4-Start small, but start! Learn with your students-it's wonderful! Be willing to learn. You'll see your Ss in a different way.
A4: start small, pick 1 tool that will enhance lesson that u feel comfortable w
YES!! Added bonus...it builds class community, collaboration, and critical thinking! https://t.co/4zRroekImh
A4: Don't be afraid to give kids control. Be honest and tell them you don't know how to do something. They'll show you!
A4: Let students use what they know. You don't have to be the expert in all things.
A4: Feel overwhelmed with integrating technology into their lessons/classroom? Take it ONE STEP AT A TIME. Set realistic goals.
A4: Enjoy the most authentic feeling of all: fear. Risk is the only road to magic.
Well said Barb! https://t.co/zEyWI04B5X
A4: Try to integrate one item at a time. See out support when needed. Look for tech that solves a problem or fulfills a need.
Love it! Your computer has eyes in the back of its head
If you keep the in mind, the rest will fall into place. They'll let you know when the fails
A4 Start WITH them; Host a Twitter Party or a Learning Lunch; connect w a main interest of theirs; https://t.co/n70DsIxNTN
Q4 - What advice can you give to assist other teachers who are overwhelmed with integrating technology into their lessons?
Seems like the top answer for #4 is to just try it out...jump in and see how it goes!
A4: don't be afraid to let Ss explore, let them be better than you at the tech, it's OK to not know the answer
A4: You don’t have to know everything. Just be given the freedom to let your students try it.
Q4. Let the students be the tech leaders. It does not have to be teacher lead!
Yes! Student helpers at all levels are validated when we collaborate and problem solve with them.
Thanks - I'll check it out
Technology is just a tool. Don't be afraid to let Ss know more than you. You don't need to be an expert. https://t.co/0FeOXr2Fw1
A4: Start small. You don’t have to do everything at once. Get a PLN to support you. Tweet.
They learn it better when they teach it. Ss build confidence when they can help others learn new skills. https://t.co/IOs2lGsnkU
Q4 I train my 5th gders on etc and send them to other classes to assist Ts and Ss who are trying for 1st time.
A4: Don't be afraid to attempt. It may not go perfectly first time, but that's ok. Build upon successes, & don't be afraid to fail
A4 Choose a task that you can replace with technology. The "S" in SAMR. It's the camel's nose under the tent.
A4: Don't try too much at once. Start with a little and get feedback from your . As they learn, they'll ask you for more!
Remember that when you are answering a question you should reply with A4 and not Q4
Like & for demonstrating lrning in
Many Ts are afraid of relinquishing control. They have to know that it's okay!
yes encourage photography,/audio have Ss document solutions with pictures. They can create math books for other Ss.
A4: Ts need to team up! Tech projects are best when shared as grade-level or buddy-groups.
RT A4 Choose a task that you can replace with technology. The "S" in SAMR. It's the camel's nose under the tent.
A4: try one thing. Instead of new thing, try alternate to what already doing. Notes on a paper can become a typed doc w/pics
A3: (having tech difficulties) can help accelerate the rate which Ss learn necessary language acquisition skills.
Play videos in class maybe at a station or whole group. Have video available for kids to refer back to in class.
Yeeeessssss! We don't have time to learn it all before letting the Ss use it!
A4-Don't feel you have to do everything immed.Try 1 thing, even a small thing.Get good at it, then try something else..baby steps.
A4: Allow new tech to be a learning experience for you and you Ss to go through together-teamwork!
This statement should go in a handbook. https://t.co/cRkXFCFb10
A4: Don't try too much at once. Start with a little and get feedback from your . As they learn, they'll ask you for more!
When trying to incorporate tech, this is so true! https://t.co/NLNX1FeCo1
A4. Move slowly, find a partner, and expect mistakes to happen. Integrating tech is a learning process.
A4: if students tell you something another teacher does, say "i'll look at it" but then actually do
Sorry to miss out on , but there was a new episode of ....soo....yeah.... Hope to see you guys next week!
A4: pick a few tech tools that fit with Ss need to know, and use them well -- don't try to use everything
A4: This... https://t.co/TF1q0gW0f3
It's not cheating for students to use resources they will have access to in their everyday lives. Teach, not ban...via
Sometimes it is just telling someone, "let me help you!" or even better, "let me show you!"
Thanks for getting me up to speed, this sounds great for our Ss with no wifi at home!
Nope, but worth every penny! Best whiteboard, screencast tool & most used app on my class iPads!
A4: The hardest part seems to be the most frequently suggested. Release control. We are teaching innovators, let them innovate.
A4: Don't wait until you've thoroughly tested and mastered the tool. Go for it! Tell kids you have no idea where this is going.
Mission building on minecraft is our next project! Can't wait! https://t.co/xpCvQIyUcu
A3: MinecraftEdu is giving some of our quiet 4th graders RockStar status because they are the geniuses!
my whole year has been about just this as a T. Ss are loving it. https://t.co/r8U5lHvaMX
RT Q4: Don't be afraid to take a risk. It may not work, but you will grow from it and you may be surprised.
With very clear expectations! Inappropriate comments can be deleted by the T. https://t.co/tyVS7bArhf
Do you have teachers worry about inappropriate comments coming up? How do you handle?
Yes! Learn about together, and attempt together. Reflect on successes and learn from mistakes
Came in quite late as I'm planning crazy blocks for assessments this week :( Laurie from San Marcos
Yep, and it can be really scary, but really, really rewarding!
I ask kids to show me stuff all the time
So true, they love to give their feedback! Giving me an idea for a student run tech review forum.
-----------------> Q5 is up next. Look for tweet!
Hi! Thanks for coming Laurie!
A4a Take a step back. Begin with the end in mind asking.. How might tech make experience ____ (w/e you hope to change)?
Well thank you! We just know that can get overwhelmed and we just want them to be as successful as possible
I’m totally going to use that.
A4 That thing about one size not fitting all.. seems like it'd apply to Ts adopting tech (or anything else) they didn't invent.
cool, let me know if you have any questions!
A4: tech int is like cliff diving. If you are scared, make sure it is safe and let the kids jump.
Q5 - What is your favorite tool for digital formative assessment and why?
A4: Our district finally hired one Tech Associate for each school. It has been heavenly! Ts are doing so much more tech infused
We are happy to help! It is always about the for us!
Q4 we hosted Hour of Code and had no coding background. Ss were TOTALLY engaged. We need to be able to give up control
A5: Takes some planning, but has been a excellent tool for engagement.
A4 Ask the victims (students) for their input. I bet it’d include stuff teacher hadn’t thought of.
A5: I just found to use YouTube videos and add my own questions.
RT Q5 - What is your favorite tool for digital formative assessment and why?
A5: is my favorite by far! Free, easy to set up, and you can use any device...plus it lets you do surveys as well!
A5: Plickers https://t.co/yvn37uKAyg for Ts without 1:1 devices. 1 Phone and print cards allow you to take class pulse in seconds.
A5: it is engaging, clear, useful for error analysis, makes sts think is teaching me how best to use!
A5-Just 1? I'll go with Google Forms and Socrative
A5: I love the flexibility of Google Forms. I can use them in so many ways, and collect and display data.
I bet that's because you've seen success
Ooooh! We should talk! Have you done missions with MinecraftEdu before?
A1 stick to one tool/app, learn to use it for all content. When you're ready add a second one etc.
A5: Love Google Forms - can offer a variety of Qs / response types, easy to use, connected to ss accounts, feedback options
Do you ever make Google Forms on the fly? Or always plan them ahead of time?
A4 My advice for T is that it's a trial and error period, you will fail, get frustrated, but then you will hit grand slams too
A5: Socrative, Google Forms, or Kahoot for me.
A5- We use it is fun, competitive, easy to use and a fast way to see who got it and who did not.
Have you used to grade and send back to students. I love this new feature.
A5: and the always amazing forms
The free version works well. I just paste in my own PPT and add the interactive tools. Have not tried paid version
A5. Google Forms as well!
Minecraft pocket edition is $8/iPad, an investment but it can be used for so many educational tools! https://t.co/5NFf1c1Vlj
How expensive is Minecraft and can it be used on iPads?
A5 Quizizz . Just like Kahoot, but students control the flow of the questions. A's also on device, so no need for projector
A5: Slides or Draw. I ask Ss to do quick design challenges often. "Create one slide that demonstrates your understanding of ___."
Do you play vids whole group of let them watch individually?
That's awesome! PPT or Google Slides?
Thank you! I will check this out!
Plickers is especially great if you're in a low tech classroom without S devices! https://t.co/icmtrrO35R
A5: Plickers https://t.co/yvn37uKAyg for Ts without 1:1 devices. 1 Phone and print cards allow you to take class pulse in seconds.
A4: iDisagree. iThink as Ts we can evaluate + predict 🔮Tech's outcome. Ss aren't a Petri dish.
More often then not they are on the fly. When I see something is going south, I do quick Google Form to find out why
We had a night to introduce parents to coding. Shy at 1st, but we couldn’t get some of them 2 leave.
So true! Kids LOVE Kahoot!
a5: just used socrative for the first time and it's so easy for quick assessments
A5: Ss have so much fun playing & I get some valuable info as well, also &
And teachers can't put up with the music :) RT So true! Kids LOVE Kahoot!
Flipped my math in-class 5th grade AKA Grt for differentiating & small grps w/T
A5-Best tool by far CC Pensive used in conjunction w/ ELA structure 2 individualize LA instruction/assessment
they watch vids individually with headphones. I posted a video & pics of them in action.
A5-Old school maybe-but I love the blog-embed the tool used to demonstrate learning, and Ss explain via blog.Commenting/discussion
Yes, you print out cards and the way students orient the cards represents their multiple choice answer. Scan w/ phone!
A5: Google Forms - for formative assessment.
A5. Google forms. Why? Wide range of question types. Video & pic embedding. Oh and Hello... is my hero!
Yes I use it for quick quizzes. Doctopus and Goobric for writing.
my husband used it in elem PE w/ 50+ kids before he got iPads. Amazing tool!
brings out the competitive fire in my Ss!
Have you tried ? Designed to attract girls to coding, but all elementary kids love it!
I am loving I am working with a teacher who is going to use it to filp her class
First time! We are taking the project over from another team that tried it last year! The Ss love it! https://t.co/mCbtBTTz4k
Ooooh! We should talk! Have you done missions with MinecraftEdu before?
Both. But I like Slides more. Working on converting everything. But PPT animations don’t transfer
Plickers is a great way to preserve student privacy-other kids don't know what they're answering!
Folks should know there are thousands of public cahoots to choose from!
Another great app for math is FrontRow...free version still allows you to set up classes and assign extra help as needed!
I'd love to see what that looks like in the 5th grade.
A5: I've been creating simple tasks in GSlides & Ss move or write answers. Then push thru GClassroom
Definitely the most customizable. And great for working with Data.
A5: When Ss use apps like to illustrate a concept or explain a solution, it provides holistic assess
A5: is my fav-- super easy and quick to create and streamline/easy to use for kids on all types of devices
A5: we've been using socrative quite a bit lately too.
A5 Favorite tool for formative assessment is Kahoot!
I also love students making Pecha Kuchas, 20 slides 20 seconds per slide of narration on iMovie.
https://t.co/cSFxVLE8L7
I also love students making Pecha Kuchas, 20 slides 20 seconds per slide of narration on iMovie.
https://t.co/7btwKpJpon
I agree! I love the feedback and the ability to see it live as they take a quiz.
Thoughts about ghost mode?
I use GF & Classroom all the time for formative assessment... Totally agree
What's a good, free alternative to ? Educreations?
I just used with my Embeded questions at end of video. It worked great! formative
Night, ! 5 am is coming way too soon! Great chat, ,
A5 I want to use more, but I just haven't dove in. SO much potential there though
Used to have my classes do 6 x 10. 3 words or a picture on a slide. Amazing for ELLs
I’ve never even thought of that. I am so stealing. Do you push out to ss through GClass as well?
Yes! No need to create a new quiz if an existing one fits your needs. Thanks for the reminder. https://t.co/QAGk6QhdtD
Folks should know there are thousands of public cahoots to choose from!
A5: Someone shared with me but have not used it yet. Anyone out there use it?
But good night :) Thanks for joining in!
We had the Nearpod subscription last year and it was really good. But am trying Pear Deck this year.
That is interesting! Will the video tell me more?
Archer c'mon, kids need to get to the library to READ!
A5 - Pear Deck is pretty cool
A5: Loved using polls & quizzes in for immediate feedback Also like creating assessments in
A5 Work sheets & scantron tests...oh wait wrong century!
A5 I always want to use GoFormative and Secretive but keep forgetting.
---------------------> Prepare for Q6 from
Educreations is a free alternative. I used it in my classroom all the time, and really liked it
Not familiar-makes quizzes?
Our superintendent brought cookies and juice there wasn't a single S who touched them until they were on their way out!
A6: Also use Caption, but haven’t tried the new presentation mode yet.
A5: Used to use clickers (student response systems). Expensive but engaging & effective formative assess https://t.co/16wsmwS5Q7
See you Wednesday at MHHS! Good night!
Exactly. Whether its student responses or my notes, I love working with the data in forms and sheets.
My bad - I forgot how badly those SEMS kids want to get to school early!
The answer you were looking for was C.
A5: Googleforms, but hoping to try others for formative assessment
Keeping learning objectives in mind + knowing HOW Tech will enhance learning aforetime.
I am loving Short 1-2 slide presentations can reveal a lot and help guide instruction
I use it, but usually more for student practice than formatives
A5 Google draw is my fav. allows for modeling, insertion of pics, labeling, text, all in diff learning formats-research, labs, etc
A5: Also use Zaption but haven’t tried the presentation mode that is a better formative assessment.
Educreations started charging for most features
Q6 - What’s your favorite “lesser known” Google app and how do you use it?
Hey Scott! Great to see you.
Ronnie! Yer up late! Good to read you. And use we should create close to the same amount we consume
Awesome! That is good to know
Yup. I set the background to the # line, table, whatever then they can't mess w image.
Laura, check with Matthew about Pear Deck. He's our expert.
We all know how making that perfect circle w/#2 pencil will help too.
. so good to move locus of control from T to S! https://t.co/Q2dEL6U9Yt
A4 - Start with open ended opportunity of tech integration, let Ss decided how tech is used during a project & give up control
Won't have as many features as Explain Everything, but maybe try ShowMe? Or Whiteboard app?
RT Q6 - What’s your favorite “lesser known” Google app and how do you use it?
That's disappointing! I loved having the kids make Educreations to show their knowledge
A5 I love the ghost mode that Ss can play on . Ss can play with ghosts
Excited to see these responses and learn more!
Is he still using PearDeck?
A6: for digital lit circles. It gets the outside of the classroom walls!
. Any hints on getting a admin tech job anyone?
Class Flow Question Mark??? Tell me more!
A6: Google Drawings & MyMaps. Love 'em.
A6: My Maps. Create a collaborative map for any subject. Use with Screencastify to discuss adventures.

A6 It was Forms, but it's becoming not so "lesser known" these days.
A6 - my new favs are Goolge MyMaps and Tour Builder
A6: Google Slides for animated movies & Drawing for making green screen backgrounds.
Hello Urbie great to see you.
A6 Slides for collaborative class presentations.
A6: Google Classroom/Calendar integration. Parents can’t access GClassroom, but they can access and subscribe to synced calendar.
Also check out You can create adaptive questioning in assessments
A6: Not lesser known but I love using Google Slides for lots of things other than presentations.
Yeah right, get it the right amount of dull and just one line works. Mischief Managed.
Loved clickers before we had a device for every kid -- some Ts still use...you would love
A6: Having fun getting to know Google Drawings! Could be used for seriously anything!
Why did I never think of this for lit circles?! Thanks https://t.co/bBcJAaGNoX
A6: for digital lit circles. It gets the outside of the classroom walls!
https://t.co/TIGu6wb7Tb
A6 - Google Keep. All of my notes/lists/ideas in one place on my device. Always with me. Never lost.
A6: I've been trying GoogleEarth for virtual field trips- exploring all the CA missions
sometimes I think our schools are stuck in a time warp...
oh LOVE Maps! Did state reports in GMaps last year. Big hit.
A6: Google Story Builder. Create dialogue for conversations and teach point-of-view. Just be sure to collect the URL at the end!
gDrawings is great! RT : A6: Having fun getting to know Google Drawings! Could be used for seriously anything!
He was helping Christine and I at the last meeting.
A5 it's as simple as or . I just need something the kids can write on and show they get it
I use Google earth to trace the water system of California.
Awesome - he has so many 'tools' that he has to use, wasn't sure he still had time!
A8 is great for creating, curating, collecting evidence.
A6 starting to explore Google Feud

A6: I LOVE using the "More...Add to Tasks" in Gmail. Now my Task list has the link to the email w/details!
Loving TourBuilder - what are you going to do with it?
I am working a lot with Google Draw this year and keep finding new things to do with it. Don't underestimate its power!
A6-been using G Drawing for everything these days from new& improved worksheets, to quick research assignments, to annotated pics.
Similar to Nearpod, etc but you can also create standalone assessments & leveled Qs...
A6: I started using Google Keep ever since it became an ios app. Love how it syncs on all devices.
A6 is great for creating, curating, collecting evidence.
Seriously what? Tell me more!!!
A6: Pixlr was acquired by google, and it doesn't come up much, but I like it as a free alternative to photoshop
A6: I try to use MyMaps for things you wouldn't usually use maps for. Like cell organelle analogies!
Just no going to brown town!
A6: Maps I've used for State Reports, explorers, Novel retells...
What is the split/merge app?
If Ss succeed on level 1 Q, you can have app send S on to level 2, and so on
What?! Cool! RT A6: I try to use MyMaps for things you wouldn't usually use maps for. Like cell organelle analogies!
A6: Public Data Explorer for teaching history in the 1900s. Connects Data and the story it tells.
have to tweet our own horn try for screncasting. My SPED Middle school sts are learning loving it!
--------------------> will be sending out Q7 soon.
Agreed. We discover⬆️w/Ss as we use Tech. However, we need clear objectives we KNOW will work.
I learned about MyMaps from you https://t.co/fUhPpOaGGx
RT Q6 - What’s your favorite “lesser known” Google app and how do you use it?
Can you describe Google Keep uses for students?
A6: ❤️ Draw! Ss make all kinds of things & then screencast about it, or import to and add tags
A8 I use google draw for graphics & images. I love google slides for Ss to collaborate with analyzing lab results. & googlevoice

A5 Looks like I really need to get to a - so much more to learn about this platform!
Allows users to split and merge multiple PDFs.
Yes, They did layers and used certain icons. Inserted text, vids, & pics. AND had bib.
A6 Using Draw for digital worksheets. One of my current favorite hacks.
showed me some mad Google Search/image tools at last year. Need to revisit. So much good stuff.
A6 it's not lesser known but probably under utilized , understanding what our world looks like
We have also used Google maps to create photo field trips for nature observation/field studies in bio
Google Tour Builder is seriously fun to use! I led Ss on a migration from Mexico to our city! https://t.co/5trBMR8pyA
Um, I know nothing about this!! Share, share, share!
A6 Mind blown from tips and tricks shared at this weekend. I have my work cut out for me with these "lesser" apps!
Assessments can be a good indicator of that feedback as well as Direct ?s.
A6: Mymaps with Google Lit Trips! Follow the characters in the story!
"You're killing me Smalls."
Q7 - How has technology made you a better educator? How has technology made your students better?
My Ss ask if my images are 'free to use' I teach them that 1st thing in the yr.
I'll then put them into one tour and embed that on our blog. That's the plan anyway. :)
A6: Any ideas for apps/tech to support or enhance classroom debates?
Wow! We just had a convo about droughts- great idea! https://t.co/03HGtsg1I8
