#ALedchat is a weekly chat on Twitter about education topics. It is held each Monday from 9-10pmCST. While the discussion on #ALedchat continues on Twitter well beyond our weekly one-hour chat session, this platform affords us the opportunity to extend, expand and share the conversation with an even greater audience. Educators from across the state of Alabama, and the world, can come here to find encouragement, support, resources, professional growth opportunities and advice, while providing the same to their colleagues.

Q1: What is your purpose/mission? #ALedchat
"Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it." Marian Wright Edelman
A1 - Agree. I believe 'improving the lives of others' primarily comes from teaching kids stuff...knowledge (and its application) is powerful.

Q1: What is your purpose/mission? #ALedchat
"Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it." Marian Wright Edelman
You have to be you. There was a teacher I admired. He had a great rapport and his lessons were top. I canât teach like him. When I tried, I was awful. You have to be yourself #aledchat
Q2 Be consistent with who you are. Determine your philosophy and those things for which you advocate. You will grow as your craft evelives but your core will remain the same. #ALEdchat
A1 My mission is to teach kids the value of their education even if it feels impossible or hopeless in their world...but mostly to teach kids to value themselves & others, because people are what matter #aledchat

A3: There are lots of things that donât get accomplished daily- donât sweat the small stuff. Put kids first and everything else will take care of itself. #ALedchat
A1: My favorite quote that goes along with this is it's not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. If you can get students excited about what they are learning, you can unlock potential that the students didn't even know they had. #ALedchat
3. Itâs about making the minutes matter. Who has time for hot coffee and lunches? We are teaching the future of the world! #urgency#priorities#aledchat
A4: Finding a tribe that gets you, knows you, and brings you a new cup of coffee from across the hall when they know you need a "happy". Once again, relationships..#aledchat
A1: My Mission as an Educator? My mission, as an educator, is to assist students in developing the passion and skills for becoming lifelong, 21st century learners. ~Jackie Gerstein #aledchat
A5: As educators, we always have to think on our toes. All students are different. To keep pushing forward you just have to adjust. Make what changes need to be made and then press on. The work is never done. #ALedchat
A5: Not everyone can keep pushing. Not everyone fails forward. Not everyone knows what it takes. Be the change. Be the difference. Be extraordinary! #ALedchat
A5: I pull out my folder of âHappy Thoughtsâ to remind me that I have made a difference and I can push forward. The notes from parents, students, colleagues and administrators are great for grounding me in the reasons I chose becoming an educator. #aledchat
A4: It takes a village to raise children and by surrounding yourself with like minded individuals you bring joy to the journey and encouragement. #aledchat

6. Others may be smarter, but there no excuse for anyone to work any harder. Do everything to the best of your ability. Give it all. #goals#effort#aledchat
A6: Being a good listener is my strongest character trait. I make a point to give others my full attention to really hear what they have to say. This is imperative for building relationships. #ALEdchat
A4: Finding those people who are the most critical, yet most supportive of you is important for your personal and professional growth. I certainly wouldnât be who I am today without my tribe! #aledchat
A6: I think the character trait that is a strength for me is competitiveness. I always want to be the best and being the best takes hard work and determination. I am not the best at many things, but I am going to work to be the best I can be. #ALedchat

A8: Listening to students not only lets them know you are there but also shows you care about them. Sometimes they donât have other adults that truly listen to what they have to say. #ALedchat
A8: There have been many situations in my life with students, teachers & staff where I have not been fully focused and missed an opportunity- you never get that back. I donât want to miss any more. #BeWhereYourFeetAre#Focus#ALedchat
A6: I have been gifted with the ability to empathize with those around me. Empathy goes a long way with students especially when they feel valued and loved as individuals. #ALedchat
A8: I think for me it's that some people just want to be heard. They need someone in their life that cares for them and that they know cares for them. Someone who is willing to stop what they are doing (even just for a moment) and lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on. #ALedchat
A8: That is how we build relationships! I was at a great PD today on "better conversations" by @jimknight99 It's so important! Anne Hoffman was great!Check out the 6 beliefs and 10 habits. Listening is a big piece. #aledchat
A9: Focus on what matters, donât get caught up in the âstuffâ. I am speaking to myself on this one. Get out of the office and enjoy kids! Focus on the positive and not the negative. #ALedchat
9. Sometimes we all need to step back for a moment and refocus. I never want to lose the passion or fire that brought me to where I am. â¤ď¸ #aledchat
A9: It is easy to feel you are in survival mode with the many hats we wear as educators. We must stay focused on our main goal and put into place the actions to reach those. Having a tribe keeps us from reaching burnout/overload. #ALEdchat
A7: I got a charging port that charges three different pieces of technology at a time and brought it to school to use as a phone charging station. It gets a lot more use at school than it does at home! #aledchat
A8: itâs important to listen because teachers are learners too! We can learn so much from those around us if we remain open and willing to grow. #ALedchat
A9: This happens to so many of us this time of the year. It seems like there is so much that we have to do that we are trying to from drowning. This a great reminder of what is actually important. #aledchat
A9: My spin on this quote is: Promise me you will not spend so much time on preparing for a standardized test that you forget to build relationships with the kids or forget why you became a teacher!!! #ALEDCHAT
A9: Itâs really easy to lose sight of why you chose this profession in the first place. Donât get tangled up in the messiness of it. Focus on the gold at the end of rainbow. And all those sweet prizes along the way!
#aledchat
A9: Every morning I pray that God fill me with joy so I can be a light for those around me. I am so blessed to work in Jefcoed with wonderful colleagues who love serving the Irondale community as much as myself. Teaching is a calling that I am happy to answer. #ALedchat
A8: When you invest in students by letting them know that their opinion matters and their voice has been heard, they will in turn invest their time in you and your class #aledchat
A10: At the end of the day- I just want them know I love them and will do anything for them. I also pray we have given each student hope. #Jeremiah29:11 #ALedchat
10. This goes to back to the moments, the little things. Ears are listening. Eyes are watching. People (the big ones and little ones) are facing issues we may not even know about. Show love always. #aledchat

A10: I hope to leave a mark that helps others to see their strengths and their impact. I want those I come in contact with to know their worth. It isnât about me but ultimately about them! #ALEdchat
A10: I hope people see that I care and that I was passionate education. I hope that they know I was always learning myself and that I left things better than I found them. #aledchat
A10: My mark is that my students call me their âAmerican momâ. I show them and teach them about American culture while letting them know they are loved. #ALedchat
A10: Remember what we are called to do and why we are here. We may have a few stray marks song the way but overall we should write a beautiful story for those students we reach. #ALedchat
A10: Itâs really hard to say what mark you will leave for sure. One thing I do know is that I work to be remembered as someone committed to helping others achieve their dreams and goals. #aledchat
A5: I keep my "Happy Thoughts" in my grade book and the smaller ones taped to my computer monitor. I like to read them when I feel overwhelmed. The notes from my kids help me to push forward! #aledchat#UMedTech#aledchat
A10: I pray my mark is a positive one. There's a lot of marks that these kids have left on me over the years--sometimes I wonder who has taught who more? #aledchat
A9: Less time focused on the "have to's" & more time on the "get to's". When I remember that I GET to pour into these children daily & play a role in their future, it's less about the treading & more about the swimming for THEM. #aledchat
Amazing job by my friend and #ALedchat team member @Cbice_1. Most of us in AL are getting ready for our BIG snow tomorrow! âď¸âď¸ Have a great week! See you next Monday!!
A9: It is very easy to get caught up with the hustle and bustle of every school day. You can easily become consumed and forget your purpose. I always try to remind myself that I do this to make a positive impact on future generations #aledchat
Especially with my littles, I try to be mindful that they come from different and sometimes hard situations so I try to make the library a safe, fun place that is full of routine. #umedtech#aledchat
