WHEN WE HIDE, AVOID, AND ENABLE PAIN it bugs us wherever we are, what ever we do. Read why -> https://t.co/F1CkhdsTbH
-
We could always protest with virtual signs. Free Sara Truebridge!
-
Hi Mark! Thanks for joining
-
Let's start as we always do with a Tidbit...
-
This Tidbit is straightforward...
-
Tidbit: Spring is a time of birth and renewal
-
Two, four, six, eight, Sara and are really great!
-
-
Okay...I am hoping we have some lurkers and late comers to who will chime in...
-
-
Q1: How would you apply the concept of birth and/or renewal to your work in education?
-
Hi all, traveling in Texas tonight! Recruiting teachers in San Marcos on 3/29! Have a great chat! Miss you all!
-
We were wondering where you were. ;) Good luck on the recruiting! See you next week.
-
A1 If I could, I would teach gardening. All year around. Birth. Death. Rebirth. All there.
-
A1) Each year, each class is new/different from last, must renew activities/approaches for them
-
A1: the birth being an idea of creation of a concept with huge results and renewal could be restored faith in Ss enthusiasm.
-
The schools I have been working w/recently all have gardening as part of their work w/Ss. It's wonderful!
-
-
This is sooooo true!! It restores our enthusiasm as well!
-
I never get tired of seeing plants coming back up in the spring. It's a miracle.
-
I would like to bring caterpillars to the class room. Clear and quick growth that young students can see.
-
-
Garden metaphors are so important to work. Help those seedlings grow with sunshine, water and great soil!
-
Yes! I also have brought praying mantis eggs into the classroom. Fascinating!!!
-
A1 And with older kids, Jr. High and up, explore death as part of life. Remove the taboo.
-
-
Yes. I think this is so important too. And not just w/older kids...
-
And with a song in your heart. I always welcome plants back.
-
Wrking w/K's and early primary grades, the death of pets has been a learning experience.
-
True, but I think parents and others would be more accepting. Can be more frank.
-
A1: Bringing in new PD. Encouraging Ts to make yearly change within the school & classroom environment.
-
-
Let's apply birth/renewal to the 3 resilience protective factors:caring relationshps;high expectations; ops to participate
-
Today I saw plants poking through the earth and snow. Always amazed to see those flowers return!
-
Ah yes. Important to address these things. Some cultures more matter of fact than we are.
-
Q2: What is something that you can do new or differently with respect to demonstrating and embracing "caring relationships?"
-
Hi Just came in Faige retired kinder teacher in Los Angeles, Enjoying opportunities to sub
-
For sure! Interesting concept to explore in terms of cultural responsiveness.
-
For sure! Interesting concept to explore in terms of cultural responsiveness.
-
Hi Faige! Always great to have you here in
-
I tell Ts that their classrooms shouldn't look the same from year to year.
-
-
Q2:What is something that you can do new or differently with respect to demonstrating and embracing "caring relationships?"
-
I am a fan of journals following weekends. Then talk with the students about what they have written
-
A2 Pets are obvious answer, but teaching little kids compassion and empathy important.
-
A2: offer genuine listening opportunities to truly "be present" in a caring relationship.
-
A2 as a sub different interactions w/parents but building positive rapport a must
-
I really think that is a great idea!
-
A2 When I was in Sunday school, we were taught benefit of charity. Giving to others. I came with a quarter every Sunday.
-
Love jrnals. Have you done "Collective Journals?"--Everyone writes in the same jrnl. It's fascinating!
-
A2 Tricky part is to teach this without causing people to feel guilty. "Starving children in India," doesn't cut it.
-
It's a Mitzvah and Tikkun Olam ;)
-
A2) Listen more, ask more Qs, provide meaningful feedback , always find the humor in things, light, fresh, fun
-
That sounds great! what if the student only wants to share it with their educator?
-
So true. We don't want to use guilt.
-
A2 If students can connect with stories about kids their age, that can be a big help.
-
Then that student does not need to contribute to the collective jrnl. It's a choice not a requirement.
-
Stories are so very powerful!!
-
More so emphasize Tikkun Olam. Fixing the world. Do our small part.
-
a2 an educator I respect often said "people matter more than things".I repeat that a lot bc we can forget that when stressed
-
It was amazing to me to see how personal and intimate Ss were in their entries into a Collective Journal.
-
Very powerful. How we relate to one another. Stories break down the sense of The Other.
-
That sounds fun!! I could see this being used for a buddy system... Ss w/ & w/o disabilities
-
Just share of a post I wrote as I reflect on me and the future. How we manage life. Have 2run Sorry
https://t.co/Ril7MYiWwR
-
A2 When I was studying for my confirmation, our rabbi asked us what is opposite of love? We said hate.He said, "Loneliness."
-
Thanks for sharing this. Take care. See you next time on
-
Sorry... Got to go. too many late nights.
-
-
A2 Everyone should read things like Diary of Anne Frank.
-
Au revoir. See you next week.
-
-
Q3: What is something that you can do new or differently with respect to demonstrating and embracing "high expectations?"
-
I also believe that seeing students outside of the classroom is important. Let them see you are more than just a teacher
-
Thanks , so sorry to go, must get some shut eye for tomorrow, thanks friends 😊
-
-
Take care! See you next time.
-
I think Spring Break is in the air...
-
Putting Q3 out there again on ...
-
A3 I'm trying to phrase everything in the positive so my Ss can self identify high expectations and self motivations
-
Q3:What is something that you can do new or differently with respect to demonstrating and embracing "high expectations?"
-
That is such a good practice to practice ;)
-
Joining late Sara....hope that's okay.
-
A3 So much pressure. I put that on myself but kids? Dunno. Depends on how communicated.
-
Absolutely!! Always great to see you!
-
I think I figured out why many of my Tweets on previous weeks didn't show up.
-
tie in caring with expecting more.
-
I was put in Twitter Jail for Tweeting so much! ;)
-
A3: Catching up but high expectations dovetails with setting the bar high. Should be for all students.
-
A3 it is true for me: Ss meet the expec. you set: I have them aim for the stars - if set low they teach for that too
-
Thanks Sara...you as well.
-
Yup!! That's the way to do it!
-
Seriously? Why? On my end (hopefully not).
-
A3 I think in terms of "you do what you gotta do."
-
Are you kidding? What is Twitter jail?
-
I have to do my invitations to the day before or earlier in the morn so I don't get restricted.
-
show them the opportunities that meeting high expectations can present them such as scholarships.
-
-
Q4: What is something that you can do new or differently with respect to providing "opportunities for participation"
-
O-kay. I think I understand. So people cannot simply join - they need to be invited?
-
Simply put: Have high expectations for everyone!!
-
No, No, No...EVERYONE is invited. If anyone has joined just once, I connect with them personally and invite them again.
-
we need to invite people to the party, sometimes they need coaxing
-
A4: Smashing barriers that exclude and include instead. Foster peer connections. Explain differences.
-
Boom! Yup! If not it can lead to "soft bigotry"
-
A4 I'm a believer in so I give opportunities in discourse/assessment/etc protocols
-
-
A4 modify expectations, think inclusive, model it, use positive language, stay current, reach parents in positive ways
-
A4: Same as A3. Have high expectations and the rest will slowly take care of itself. Ss are truly amazing!!!
-
"Ops to participate & contribute" is a huge protective factor that supports resilience in all of us.
-
A4 I need to be open and welcoming. Invite telling of story about self.
-
A4: Put students at the center of an equitable educational experience that meets their needs and fosters growth
-
-
Love this Sherry...reach parents in positive ways. Absolutely essential.
-
heck no - Sara sends out reminders to those of us who often stop by - all are welcome 🤗
-
-
-
a4 make it safe for students to try something new and be ok if it doesn't work
-
A4 Giving people space to express the personal.
-
Right. Experimented tday w/no reminders to c if that would make my Tweets appear-and it did!
-
I'll still send reminders-but either the day before or earlier in the day to stay out of jail
-
Social media is often trial & error. Still long for the "old days" of letters and phone.
-
Speaking of Spring Break...we were speaking about that weren't we? ;)
-
-
You have supporters here Sara...we'll bail you out somehow.
-
I didn't even know Twitter jail was a thing 😗
-
I know! I learned the hard way!
-
Q5: What will you do during your Spring Break-or just during the season of spring-that will add a "spring to your step?"
-
have you tried sending reminders through DM's?
-
We all do. As long as we're trying, right?
-
That sound is my brain short circuiting. Time to call it a night.
-
Hmmmm...no...that may be the way to go... but not everyone is able to receive my DMs if not following me
-
A5 spend more time outside! Nature keeps us mentally healthy!
-
Thanks for joining ! Wouldn't be the same without you!
-
-
-
Coloring is SO therapeutic for me too!
-
-
Q5:What will you do during your Spring Break-or just during the season of spring-that will add a "spring to your step?"
-
A5: You colored this? Absolutely beautiful. I'd frame it. Me? Some fresh air at the park.
-
A5 still keeping a gratitude journal, sthing inspired me to do over Christmas break
-
-
Thanks. No more Twitter jail, huh?
-
Free at last...free at last...free at last...
-
I live in Northern Canada where there is still snow- can't wait to walk my dogs on pavement!
-
this is SO beautiful! Do people find this therapeutic, if so I should try it!
-
-
Hang in there--tap into that resilience! ;)
-
-
it's a colouring calendar I got from my kid for Xmas 🍷
-
Q6: What will you do tomorrow as a result of today?
-
I love colouring... Find a book you like and some crayons .. You'll be golden 😊 cheaper than medication 😉
-
-
I thank everyone tonight on for hanging in there A small but strong group tonight!! Thanks for joining in! Happy Spring!
-
Thank you Sara...apologies for joining late. Good week to all...
-
thank you! A nice way to end the day. Wishing you all a great tomorrow
-
I love knowing you are there across the miles supporting and cheering us on
-
...it goes both ways. It means so much to me to be able to connect & learn with so many great people on
