A1: I'm not actually sure we have a consensus definition as a community, but to me it means being willing to try something new and creative without necessarily knowing how it will turn out! #fcsvanguard
I'm with @mrsrobinsmusic in that we don't have a formal definition of innovation. I'd say we consider innovation to be forward-thinking, research-based pedagogy. That may involve technology, but it doesn't have to. #fcsvanguard

When I first started at Haynes, I thought everything was innovative - full sets of iPads, then Surfaces, and the tech that goes with it. @FCSVanguard enhanced all of that with various Unconference tech tools as well. #fcsvanguard

A1: I’m not sure if my school/community has a set definition. However, I did have to teach students about the impact of human innovations. This was a very interesting class discussion. #fcsvanguard
A2: I keep learning and try to stay ahead so when a teacher or student asks for ideas... I am ready to wow them with something different. Giving them time to try new things... #fcsvanguard
A2: My focus as a #fcsvanguard coach has been on trying new things and exploring new options, and making sure to spread the good word and kudos for those teachers willing to take risks, including to admin!
A2: I feel like I get to do this often as a coach (and I really enjoy this part). It's about making it safe to take risks, and then supporting colleagues when they do take those risks. #fcsvanguard

A2: I am the Project Based Learning Lab teacher at my school--so I have innovation coming out of my ears. I create PBL units for all grade levels K-5 so I'm always researching, begging, burrowing, & stealing to create projects. Eudutopia is a fav go to #fcsvanguard

A4: So true!! We have to build a culture where it is ok to fail, pick up the pieces, learn from them, but not get "in trouble." That will stifle all creativity and willingness to try anything new - such a disservice to our students! #fcsvanguard
What a powerful statement. Yes, this is definitely relevant. I feel that support for "failure" starts from the top down. With the right support in place, blame is pushed into a corner. #fcsvanguard
That's really interesting. Blame is a very real fear among many teachers (and humans). Standing out, especially in a negative way, is extremely risky. That's what the culture is so important!

A4 I'm not afraid to fail in front of my Ss. I tell them that not being perfect or right every time is okay. You only truly learn when you have failed. Now, failure in the eyes of my Admin is another story. I don't like being blamed if things didn't work out. #fcsvanguard

A5: We meet often at our school. Ideas are bounced around with our reading and math coaches, Our Media Specialist is phenomenal. Everyone is not afraid to share. @haynes_bridge#fcsvanguard
A5: #FCSVanguard is doing great work in this area, and I have to shout out all the awesome instructional coaches in the county for doing their part to make innovation safe. Our school's PD team is helping us push the envelope too!

A5 RELATIONSHIPS!! We've worked on building relationships in our building this year. With fellow teachers, with students/parents and with admin. #FCSVanguard
A5: Teachers are highly encouraged to apply for different professional learning opportunities sponsored by the school to attend professional conferences. My school also implements the Pineapple Calendar where teachers showcase their classroom instruction to others #fcsvanguard

Q5: I also serve as the PLF for my school so I am often looking for ways for teachers to share their talents, experiences & best practices. I feel there is too much value in what we do not to share it. Collaboration is 🔑 #fcsvanguard
A6: Our school has made a really big push this year to bolster our PLC process. I think PLCs can and should be a home to the development of innovative practices. #fcsvanguard

A6: I think station teaching is still quite innovative and a work in progress. Each year we try things collaboratively to fine tune the process. Planning collaboratively alone will always comes with its challenges and success stories. #fcsvanguard

They loved it! It gave them an opportunity to select what they wanted to learn while having hand-on time to practice a new tech tool. I facilitated a session on NearPod. #fcsvanguard
A6: Some of the PD/PL at our school has been driven by interest and teachers have had choice rather than just everyone just getting the same thing #fcsvanguard

A7: Praise should be given to teachers if they are trying a Smore for the 1st time or if they are doing a Flip the Classroom model & their plan is to have students create games using code. Every level should be considered as adding innovation. #fcsvanguard
