#Techtalkga A1:
My name is Curt Hitchens. I'm a computer science teacher at Saddle Ridge Elementary and Middle. I wanted to be a professional baseball player.
Hey, #TECHtalkGA and welcome to 2019!!
I'm Angela, your host, Dist ITS for MS/HS in Forsyth Co + French 1 T!
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a pediatrician, a child psychologist, and then an elem school T.
Luckily, I realized in student teaching that HS is my *jam*!
A1: Evonne here, middle school tech teacher, Catoosa Co Schools - I wanted to travel as a stewardess and then after flying and deciding that was not wonderful, a truck driver. #TECHtalkGA
A1: I'm an SLDS trainer with the Georgia DOE based in Thomasville. Not sure exactly what I wanted to be but it was definitely in the service field - psychologist, teacher, librarian.
#TECHtalkGA
A1: Hollie Sisk Director of Instructional Resources Center at @GeoSouthernCOE. I always wanted to be a teacher...and maybe a flight attendant. ✈️Now I want to be Joanna Gaines from HGTV’s Fixer Upper #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2:
My undergraduate degree was in Business Administration. After graduating and not finding a job, I decided to get a masters degree in business education.
A2: I served at an elementary school my senior year in high school through work based learning which confirmed my decision to major in education in college. #TECHtalkGA
A1: Sarah, 6th grade ELA teacher in Forsyth County, I wanted to be a scientist, the president (what was I thinking???), and an Olympic swimmer! #TECHtalkGA
A2. Quit full time engineering/ project mgmt job with 3rd child. When I was ready to go back, realized I was spending all of my time in school library. Librarian insisted I just go get the degree.
#TECHtalkGA
A2 - Education wasn't even on my radar until I started working with first graders at church. Then I fell in love with it and couldn't imagine doing anything else. #TECHtalkGA
A2: I started coaching when I was in high school and loved helping others improve. After college (and degrees in German and chemistry), I realized I wanted to go back to school for my teaching degree! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2:
Well, since late MS, I've known that I wanted to be in education. As you saw from my "what I wanted to be" I always wanted to work witk kids. That just evolved.
Luckily, I was smart enough to realize that HS kids are "my people" & that I am DEF not made for ES!
A1: Emily Stallings, Instructional Technology Specialist @FloydCoSchools. As a kid I wanted to be an interior designer. I was obsessed with the show Trading Spaces. #TECHtalkGA
A1: Hi everyone! Martha Bongiorno, library media specialist at Autrey Mill Middle School in Fulton County. I always wanted to explore the world and share what I learned...So I became a SS teacher! #TECHtalkGA#GaLibChat
#TECHtalkGA A3: My dad was forced to become a technology leader at his school in the 1980's. His interest spilled over into our home when we got an Apple IIE. As I grew olders, education and computers became common interests.
A2: I sort of stumbled into education. I wanted to be a journalist but after volunteering for summer camps and tutoring, learned how much I loved working with youth. I married my love of travel and cultures with teaching SS/history. #techtalkga
A3
My dad was a tech lab teacher, so I grew up around tech and saw the birth/maturity of the internet. EdTech is a confluence of many different passions that I have.
#techtalkga
A2- I was "later in life" to education. We moved to Thomasville and I wanted time have the same schedule as my children, so I got a job as a parapro in a computer lab (my previous career was as a corporate trainer). It just evolved from there.
#TECHtalkGA
A3: I always loved typing and while staying at home with my babies, we purchased our first home computer and I did transcription for a dr's office. I have loved computers and tech ever since. #TechTalkGA
Q3: #TECHtalkGA My first computer class was in 1989 and I didn't do well....AT ALL. Then I met the @AppleEDU Mac LC II. Life changed the moment I heard the chime and saw the GUI interface. I finally "got" it. From then on, I have helped other teachers....long before the title.
A3: Even though I earned my MEd in Instructional Tech I don’t think it truly happened until later when an admin encouraged me to attend the Promethean Academy for a week to get certified. Then a couple years later SMART certified. I loved coming back to share w/ Ts #TECHtalkGA
A3: I’m always looking 4 ways to do things better! It prob started when our ITS asked me to use a Promethean board 4 a semester. The school had 1 on wheels & no one used it. He wanted me to love it & spread the word. Since then I’m always learning & trying new things #TECHtalkGA
A3: I have always had tech available as a teacher and learned quickly how it can transform your students learning experiences. When I became a SS teacher, it was a way to connect with others outside of the classroom through blogging/websites (pre Skype) #techtalkga
#TECHtalkGA Q4:
If you have left the classroom, tell us about that journey.
If you are in the classroom, tell us about your future plans (either in or out of the classroom).
A2: Ha...well I think @ThomasRhett probably sums it up best, “You make your plans and you hear God laughing”. My path took an unexpected turn but I am glad it did because I’m happy to be here! #TECHtalkGA
A3- I was a trainer in the computer department of a company so it was a natural fit to move into #edtech when I began working in schools. I was the first webmaster for my school way back 🚊
#TECHtalkGA
Hi friends! Sorry I'm late!
A1: My name is Nadia from @CobbSchools where I'm Digital Learning Coordinator. When I was a kid, I wanted to be the CEO of a multinational corporation or an @MTVNEWS anchor.
#TECHtalkGA
Q4: I got my MA in Curriculum and Technology in 2006, taught computer lab for 5-6 years, moved BACK into the classroom and then worked as a school-based ITS for 2 years. This is my 2nd year as a district ITS. #TECHtalkGA
A3 - When our system went with Google, my P suggested that I attend the training for our school & redeliver. I loved implementing tech based lessons with my third graders, and it just kind of took off from there. #techtalkga
A4: plan for the near-future (this semester) - improve my writing conferences with my learners. This is an ongoing area of focus/growth for me! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A3:
For me, #edtech was a way to provide relevance to my content and then grew from there. I couldn't always take my Ss to France but tech allowed me to bring France to them.
Then, it became job security as I saw French jobs drip drip drippin down the drain...
#TECHtalkGA A4: I left the computer lab one year to become a fourth grade teacher. The move was necessary due to the economy. Other than that one year, I've been in a lab setting my entire career.
A3: Survival! I was teaching at two different schools and needed a more efficient way to stay organized. Then I was introduced to this little thing called @GoogleForEdu! #TECHtalkGA
A4: I had an amazing principal who thought what I was doing as an ELA and SS teacher was perfect for the librarian position that had opened up at our school. He encouraged me to apply and get my masters in school media. Now here I am - a library media specialist! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q4:
If you have left the classroom, tell us about that journey.
If you are in the classroom, tell us about your future plans (either in or out of the classroom).
A3: My math mind was always drawn to tech and problem solving with it. Mostly I enjoy learning and helping others to do the same. Being a learner and a teacher is not just what I do but who I am and always have been. #TECHtalkGA
A4 - After 17 years in the classroom, I joined the awesome #fcsdot family. It has been absolutely wonderful! I wake up every morning so excited about coming to work! It is the best job ever! #techtalkga
A2: I felt stuck after college and wasn't sure I wanted to go into journalism at that time. A chat with @LFranco_SS
had me thinking that I could be of service in the education. I've loved being a teacher, presenter, district, and look forward to whatever is up ahead.
#TECHtalkGA
A4: I left the classroom several years ago. I served as a MS & now I’m in Higher Ed essentially providing the same services as a MS/tech coach to the COE stakeholders. Several doors opened over the past couple of years to allow me to work at my alma mater. #Blessed#TECHtalkGA
A4- I moved into technology for my district after several years in the classroom. Eventually added media specialist to the resume and then was offered a job with the DOE. I love having the opportunity to work with teachers all over southwest Georgia!
#TECHtalkGA
A4: was math dept chair, then math coach, started a stem academy, then academic coach, then applied for instructional tech coordinator job. Never had a “plan” per se, just followed my passion for learning how to teach better and said yes to some opportunities. #Techtalkga
#TECHtalkGA A4 Technology changed my teaching. In 2013, decided to seek out primary source speakers to engage my students in the study of history. Mark Goodman became the first person to answer my email and shared with my 1980s students about the influence of MTV. It has grown!
A3: I've always loved learning about the latest and greatest, plus I loved finding ways to have maximum impact. I stumbled upon edtech while teaching English and my Ss and I had fun using tech tools to make learning (and teaching) more fun!
#TECHtalkGA
A4: After realizing how much @GoogleForEdu made my life easier and how it made learning more engaging for students, I was eager to share what I learned with my fellow teachers. I am very fortunate to have the chance to do this every day now. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q4:
If you have left the classroom, tell us about that journey.
If you are in the classroom, tell us about your future plans (either in or out of the classroom).
#TECHtalkGA A5 Happened to be scrolling through my feed and it appeared. Always enjoy learning new ideas from my colleagues throughout the US and World 🌎!! We are all in this together!
Haha, thanks!!! I'm still chock full of random music trivia (thanks Pop Up Video) and have been known to make a hammy @YouTube video or @instagram story every now and again.

In reply to
@gabolhuis, @CobbSchools, @MTVNEWS, @YouTube, @instagram
A4: I used Schoology and YouTube to flip my analytic geometry classes. It was exciting and engaging and changed the way I saw Ss as Learners. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A5: I found out about this chat through my buddies @gabolhuis and @WCSTechDiva. I join the chats because it give me an opportunity to interact with the people that I aspire to be like professionally. One of the things I get are different perspectives.
#TECHtalkGA Authentic learning is not just reserved for technology. Been fortunate for our students to interact in class live with Brad Long, Buddy from the movie Hoosiers, Philo Barnhart, creator of Ariel from The Little Mermaid & Kyle Cook of Matchbox 20.
#TECHtalkGA A4:
I began leaving the CR in 2013 b/c I could see the writing on the wall. For the prev 5 yrs, I would get anxiety every Feb-May, wondering if there would be enough French classes for me to have a job the next yr.
Moving to #edtech meant safety & luckily I ❤️it!
#TECHtalkGA Q4:
If you have left the classroom, tell us about that journey.
If you are in the classroom, tell us about your future plans (either in or out of the classroom).
I'm sure @iamryanwhite had something to do with introducing me to #TECHtalkGA! It's a great way for a newer ITS like me to get to know others in the field and find out more about what's going on the in the EdTech Universe. #TECHtalkGA
A5: I can’t exactly remember how I started w/ the chat. Maybe mutual #PLN friends. I love learning from other energetic educators like all of you & making new connections across the state which have led to open doors for me & others that I wouldn’t have had if not for #TechTalkGA
A5: I found out about this chat from our fabulous district ITS, @MmeBurgess, & I keep coming back b/c I always learn new things and “meet” new people! #TECHtalkGA
A4: In short, I loved teaching, met two rockstar teachers (@amyvitala and @Tim_ONeill_18) who delivered some of the most engaging PL. I thought, "I could do that (because, ya know, recovering aspiring MTV personality), have a few presentations and was hooked!
#TECHtalkGA
A5b. Should have read the whole question(s). I stay encouraged through this chat that there are others looking to improve education in general, and have interests and skills in using tech as a part of this improvement. #Techtalkga
Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to everyone who participated!
Fill out the form below to make sure you get tagged as a reminder next week, when @ClintWinter will lead our discussion!

A5: found this chat through @MmeBurgess and @edtechteach3. Love the collaboration and exposure to educators with similar passions for teaching and learning. #TECHtalkGA
A5: I love that the frequency allows me to pop in whenever I can. The folks who participate here are brilliant, and many have become IRL friends. I also learn something new each time.
This chat takes the time to go deeper and create real bonds.
#TECHtalkGA
And we're so happy to have you up here in metro ATL!
We need to arrange to meet while we're both in ORL for #FETC! DM me and let's plan drinks!
#TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A5:
Haha, funny story...I found about this chat when @CatFlippen voluntold me to get it started during a DOE webinar backchannel convo.
That led me to @jfarm & @maherley, who were already planning a chat.
We 3 got it started but I had the fewest changes the next yr
So sorry I missed #techtalkga tonight. I crashed after the BOE work session. Here is a preview of what you can expect in my first ever leader of the twitter chat
Who all from #TECHtalkGA will be at #FETC? If there's a bunch of us, let's plan a meet-up!
I arrive on Sat PM for my pre-conf workshop on Sun and leave on Weds!
