The #educoach hashtag is used by instructional coaches around the world. We chat each Wednesday at 8pm CST on Twitter and use the hashtag throughout the week to share resources, ask questions and collaborate with instructional coaches.
I'm Jennifer, a math (and science and other subjects) instructional coach in Oregon. My #eduwin was attending and presenting at #cmcmath in Palm Springs, CA last week! #educoach - don't forget the hashtag!
Hi! Kenny here. A high school literacy coach in Asheville, NC. My #eduwin this week was co-planning a lesson on local elections with an EC class, and seeing their pride in seeing their learning in the election process today. #educoach
Hey there #educoach! Lauren, instructional coach, Indiana. My #eduwin is seeing some strong evidence of student transfer of learning across our building this week!
Nancy here from Southwest Iowa. My #eduwin - quality discussion around reading instruction with two of our newer Ts as we traveled to a reading workshop Tuesday! #educoach
Hi, I’m Lauren. High school all-subjects instructional coach in California. My #eduwin was starting @brightmorningtm Art of Creating Trusting Coaching Relationships course. Excited to dive in! #educoach
Exceptional Children's class but focused on civics. I was supposed to co-teach, but my daughter was sick that day. Loved being able to come do the follow-up today with the kids though! #educoach
My #eduwin was when I had a teacher beaming with pride because she had created a lesson her students LOVED, learned during, and talked about after #educoach
Hi, I'm Julie. Student Learning Coach in Arlington Heights, IL . My #eduwin is enrolling two teachers after sharing a math resource. Looking forward to our chat. #educoach
I am most proud of my relationships with teachers. I feel like I have really connected with a lot of them and that there is a trust that can blossom into awesome opportunities as the year continues #educoach
A1: I am most proud of our instructional coaches and their effort towards taking a deeper look at their work through use of the Impact Cycle. #educoach
Laura, k-2 Math Coach in CT. Only 2 days of school so no big win yet, but after a great presentation to our BOE I’m super proud of our little (4 of us!) Math Coach team. #educoach
A1: I am most proud of my Mastermind groups that I started. It’s a group of school leaders that problem solve together on a regular basis and read books and create community #educoach
A1: Launching a video coaching app with our Ts. Our Special Ed instructional coach has several Ts she is working with that are very excited to use video as a reflection tool and as a way to observe each other. #educoach@SibmeApp
I have made myself as available as possible, done my research and tried to find commonalities, responded to emails and questions as quickly as I can and always walked with a smile #educoach
A1 most proud of the collaboration that’s been happening around our new math units. Ts are working together and inviting me in to discuss and plan! #educoach
A1 super proud of how busy I am. I believe that is the result of relationship building and developing trust. We had a large turn over with about 15 new teachers and I have had so many new and existing teachers seeking me out this year. #educoach
A1: Proud of colleagues who have been willing to think in new ways to best meet the needs of their students and truly focus on ALL students. Seeing the impact of their collective efforts has been inspiring and continues to help me grow as well! #educoach
My team and I saw you speak a couple of weeks ago and it definitely re-affirmed our actions and added fuel to our passion for this job. Thank you for that #EduCoach
A2: We have found time always seems to be challenging. Looking at prioritizing time ICs spend in collaborative planning versus deep in the coaching cycle is one area we are providing more clarity on. ICs need to be in classrooms seeing instruction happen! #educoach
A2. Evaluating where I can have the biggest impact. It pulls me away from things I might rather do, and that makes me stop and refocus on the goal! #students#EduCoach
A2: Trying to clearly communicate to our Ts just how I can plan with them or model lessons -- while they observe Ss. They keep mentioning having the P cover a class so they can observe a colleague -- even when I say I can help facilitate that, too. #educoach
Time. I split 3 campuses and just feel like I could use 1-100 more hours some days. Schedules, to-do lists, and goal trackers definitely have helped. I hope to find more balance as the year progresses #EduCoach
A1: The diversity of support I've been able to provide for teachers and schools. Being multiple schools can be difficult, but I have challenged myself to provide MORE. More digital professional learning and coaching conversations have made an impact. #educoach
A2: Haha! This relates to what I'm proud of too. Focusing the work has been problematic. It's hard to be everything to everyone. Depth of coaching can suffer. #educoach
A2: About 40% of my teachers are emergency certified (no formal education training and have yet to pass certification tests). I worry about if I am providing enough support and in the right areas. They are an engaged group though and ask lots of good questions #educoach
A3 how to engage teachers in meaningful conversations around student work; being confident enough and knowing the right ways to push teachers in their ZPD. #educoach
I know I need to work on impulsivity- sometimes I am too eager to jump in and “fix” as opposed to coach and need to slow down and take a passenger seat #EduCoach
A3: I'm working on using data to inform instruction - both in classrooms and PD. I'm working with @avlockard from my ESD for help on the PD side. Always nice to find a coach for the coach! #educoach
A3: Coaching teachers I haven't worked with before. Being spread thin, it's easy for me to work with teachers with whom I already have relationships established. Need to reach out to new folks when opportunities arise. #educoach
A3 My cycles get going really well but often fall apart. I am really trying to examine why this happens. Is it my follow through? Is it the millions of things already on my teachers plates? Do I not facilitate the learn and improve phase well enough? #educoach
Good evening #educoach Sorry I’m a bit late. Looking forward to connecting. A success for the week - I’ve have time to do quite a bit of planning/catch up!
A2: Competing with time teachers have been spending with the roll out of SBG in our district. While it's exciting, it's changed the typical rhythm of the year for me. #educoach
Since I am Instructional Technology - a lot of times I will get “how do I do _____” or “_____ isn’t working” or “how do I incorporate ___” and knee jerk reaction is to fix or do it for them - but I know I need to step back and coach through so they can learn from it #EduCoach
I understand all of those issues. I wonder about the timeliness of my feedback/follow-up. How soon are you able to post-conference or follow up with teachers ofter a coaching cycle? #educoach
Mostly I use my digital coaching menu, but in between requests there, I have many impromptu coaching cycles emerge from PD or literally starting a conversation in the hall. #educoach
I think the Ts I work with the most are in more obvious literacy-oriented areas: ELA, social studies, science, world language, etc. I struggle more often to get coaching going with CTE or Health/PE teachers. #educoach
I usually only share it at the beginning of each semester because it generates so much work that I'm afraid to send it more frequently, haha! I wrote about it for @achievethecore - check out my post: https://t.co/7nahWpER1s#educoach#coreadvocates
A3 I am struggling with how to offer to model an instructional strategy with a teacher who feels competent in the strategy, yet may not implement it with fidelity. #educoach
A5: When I can keep up with my coaching logs (which I'm terrible at, by the way), I look over them to see how I'm spending my time and on what. Then, I ask myself, "What's missing that should be there?" #educoach
Shift the thinking of “improving what we do well, to even better” for students. Make sure language focuses on the student—less “critical” maybe?! #EduCoach
Can you approach through the lens of the students? Are they understanding concepts? What data could you help collect and then analyze with the teacher? #educoach
Maintain logs, establish more relationships and get into more classrooms! I’d like to shift from small pockets of work to slightly larger groups #educoach
A6. SURVIVE. Lol
Really my goal is based on my teachers goals. We all set action steps that had check-ins in December so my goal is to help them ensure we reach them #educoach
Personally - my goal is to get back into Yoga and breathing exercises for self-reflection
A5: I revisit the notes I take from each meeting with ICs I support, and think of additional questions that could be use to further our conversations. Last year, I recorded a session and watched it back to see what my behaviors were. That was very helpful! #educoach
I've designed my coaching logs to align to Danielson's Coaching. Every two weeks I send my P my log so he knows what I've done & who I have worked with. #educoach
A6: Support colleagues with keeping their momentum to finish the semester strong, yet also support balance of their growth and self-care during those upcoming busy weeks ahead. #educoach
A7. Staying accountable. Keeping up with my task list/schedules - making time for reflection and follow-up.
With Yoga - start. My husband and I have a calendar on our mirror now where we will check off days done and keep each other accountable #EduCoach
A6 A personal goal of mine is to get back to lifting weights. Finally have my home gym back in order after a home remodeling project. I’m also adding more volunteering. Just signed up for a local shoe and mitten party for needing kids. #educoach
Great coaches Jim 👍
As it happens, I missed the start of #educoach because I was talking to one of them! 😊
And we’ve probably added to your prioritising and focussing woes 😉
A6: My health. I went my gym this week for the FIRST time since August! Trying the eat better too. Using this new habit-building app called Fabulous, and it is helping me make small incremental changes. #educoach
A5 I am working on my ICG coaching certification. I try and work through one portfolio entry at a time and use that reflective work to guide my goal setting and professional growth. #educoach
A7: Oops! Answered that already. I'm loving the Fabulous app. Lost two pounds this week making small changes. Not feeling stressed or deprived at all. I'm hoping to achieve a healthier state through these small habit changes. #educoach
A8: I need to set a clearer plan for consulting. I have picked up a lot of consulting opportunities in the last year and a half, which is awesome AND overwhelming. #educoach
A8: Create opportunities for colleagues to further impact with their students, write, run another half-marathon... going to be a year filled with goals! 😉 #educoach
I'm loving it so far. The interface takes a while to get used to. It will only let you do one "journey" at a time, which is great because taking on too much is how I usually fail. I've done the energy journey, and I'm now working on the healthy eating journey. #educoach
A8: work on my presentation for a national conference in May. Work towards my next step with my Academic Appointment. Continue to be innovative and look for new ways to support my educators. #educoach
A9: I'm not sure. Consulting is so new to me, and hard to manage when you work full-time. And lately, I've been asked to do more than I have sought out. #educoach
A9: Provide opportunities to continue to grow alongside one another as a community of practice through lab site experiences, peer observation, and video reflection. Differentiate support in new ways to meet the needs of our staff. #educoach
Q11: I have an amazing group of coordinators and a director who constantly encourages and supports all that I do. They are great motivators and thinking partners. Could not ask for a better team! #educoach
