#wvedchat A1 Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, and their Harvard buddies built an empire by leveraging the power of human affirmation. Think on that. How many times do you look at your phone each day? Adults live out their lives on Facebook salivating for affirmation.
  • Shapiro_WTHS May 1 @ 8:10 PM EDT
Craig from PA. Sorry I’m late. #wvedchat
  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1: Well, I think that as teachers we demand a lot from ourselves. There aren't enough hours in the day to get everything perfect, and I know that I for one am constantly seeing the imperfections in my work. So, it brightens my day when someone gives me a nod. #wvedchat
  • mjjohnson1216 May 1 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1. Affirmation is like having your own special cheerleading squad #wvedchat

A2. They need to hear that they are doing well too. To often we focus on the wrong and not the right. #wvedchat
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2: I think it helps them stay persistent and also know when they are on the right track. But the praise must be specific! #wvedchat
  • MHSLewisHistory May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2: Same as A1....Everyone likes to feel like they are doing a good job. This helps motivate. #wvedchat

  • MrsHankinsClass May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
Affirmation is a motivator—affirmation is best on those days you reflect and think you could have done better. Then someone tells you—you’re doing great—and it reignites you. As teachers, it’s easy to be hard on ourselves when we want the best for our Ss. #wvedchat
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
I've had to check myself on this a lot recently. Want to make sure we are building the kiddos up! #wvedchat

A2 I hope it helps them with the same growth, building of confidence within themselves, and finding and using their voice. #WVEdChat
  • JoshSektnan May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2: Affirmation has helped change my students from a fixed to growth mindset. They had to know their learning and achievements mattered to me and to not be afraid to fail. #wvedchat
  • LindaEdwardsi May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2 Students often don't realize they have strengths. Receiving Affirmations from T's and peers helps them realize they have strengths #wvedchat
  • AndrewsShellyVA May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A1: affirmation reminds me of what I am and what I can do, making me a more confident person and leader. #wvedchat
  • mr_hayes May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A1: Here is one reason: "At the simplest level, when we feel good about ourselves and have a positive attitude, our lives tend to run smoothly."-https://t.co/WFOLxpUPAD #wvedchat
  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2: I think the same answer applies from question 1. If all they hear are criticisms, it will weigh them down and discourage them. We have to build them up. #wvedchat
  • RGBlack316 May 1 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2: Affirmation, like failure, provides students with a great piece of feedback to continue to develop into the best versions of themselves. #WVEdChat
  • Shapiro_WTHS May 1 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2 - Same principles as adults. Affirmations are feel good drivers that support growth, show caring and recognize effort. Besides that, they are part of simple kindness. #wvedchat
  • mjjohnson1216 May 1 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2. Imagine having books in front of you written in French and everyday you try your best to learn from them. Many students feel this way every day. When someone actually notices that they are trying it can send them soaring to new heights! #wvedchat
  • Mr_Lisek May 1 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2: Just as we need to know when we do well, our Ss need to feel they are moving and growing on their path to success. Without it, why would they want to come back to your class? #wvedchat
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 8:14 PM EDT
Yes, it helps them find their super powers!! #wvedchat

    A2. Just care .... it can send a person's spirits soaring!! #wvedchat
  • StephDill92 May 1 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2: just like adults Ss need affirmation. Seeing a kiddos face light up after an ah ha moment is the best. Second best is when their face lights up after being told jobe well done! #wvedchat
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 8:15 PM EDT
Loving that we are all on board that students need affirmation just as much as we do! #wvedchat

A2: In the same way it helps teachers, affirmation motivates Ss and gives them hope. It shows we believe in them. A St got a 20, then a 50. I focused on his growth. I told him that any growth is progress and that he could do it—his eyes lit up. Last week he got a 100. #wvedchat

A1 Affirmation is simply a way for me to check and make sure I am on the right track. It is a way for friends, colleagues, admin to give me feedback. I don’t need it, but it is a great authentic way to build relationships and support. #wvedchat
  • mr_hayes May 1 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2: When incorporated in the classroom, affirmations can help create an environment where students feel like they can be successfull, even if they make mistakes. Made me think of a quote from Rita Pierson. #wvedchat

  • mr_hayes May 1 @ 8:26 PM EDT

A4 I just ask them to do their best. When they do their best they can be happy with whatever results they achieve. #wvedchat
  • JoshSektnan May 1 @ 8:26 PM EDT
