Run by Iowa educators, #IAedchat is on Twitter the first, second, and third Sundays each month at 8:00pm CST. We have added #IAedchat LIVE to the fourth Sunday of the month at 8:00pm CST. This will take place in Google Hangout on Air. We will share the invitation and link to #IAedchat LIVE each month.
I used to like you...Man, a Packers fan living in Illinois! Grateful for a fun season and it's been awhile that the Bears have left me with hope at the end of a season! #iaedchat
A1: I am so excited about the opportunity students have to reach their dreams. Mentor and grow your students to have the skills needed to be successful! #iaedchat
A1: I’m most excited about the focus on building relationships and personlized learning. Our S’s are more and more getting their individual needs met and are being seen for what they’re capable of & not what their deficits are #IAedChat
A1 What excites me about 2019...working with kids every day! The job had changed over my career, but at the end of it I still have the privilege of working with students every day #iaedchat
A1. A new year is a fresh start and I'm looking forward to creating more opportunities for students to play a role in owning their education. #iaedchat
A1: The tenacity of educators to better the lives of kids. I love the passion and resilience that our educators bring with them to do the best they can! #IAedchat
A1: We've got the opportunity unlike anytime before to teach the importance of civility and how to disagree without disrespecting. We get to continue to look at the needs of all students and be mindful of social/emotional/behavioral needs and trauma informed teaching. #iaedchat
A1: What really excites me is our students. I have such faith in the future because our students care about each other and our world, and they're motivated to make it a better place. #iaedchat
A1: What excites me is that there are always new ideas to try that other educators are willing to share and let others "steal" so that our students can learn! #iaedchat
A1: I get to see the results of all the hard work put in this year by my students when they leave me in May. I already have plans to attend the All In conference in Dubuque and hear @brewerhm speak, and I get to start fresh in https://t.co/rUDg2GZB4b of all worlds. #iaedchat
A1: I am excited to continue innovating, creating, and building. Our site @Creekside17_18 is only in our second year. Much work to be done! We have the right people and they are doing incredible work, for kids! #IAedChat
A1: I am most excited about a clean slate and a fresh start. I feel the same way each year and find it to be energizing. Also excited about learning new things. Currently reading Lost at School by Ross Greene and it is somewhat blowing my mind. #iaedchat
A1: What most excites me about education looking into 2019 is that there are still so many possibilities out there. There are amazing things going on for Ss in our state and yet there is so much potential to grow even more. #iaedchat
A1: What excites me is that there are always new ideas to try that other educators are willing to share and let others "steal" so that our students can learn! #iaedchat
A1) every interaction with every stakeholder excites me. The school song, the pep rallies, the pride our school has all energize me. Thanks he people I am around make me proud to be in education. #iaedchat
A1. All of the great changes and pathways available for Ss in learning! There are incredible opportunities for our Ss to lead and control where and what they want to do! #iaedchat
I always wonder how we can take that idea of a fresh start each year and modify that for each week or even each day. Fresh start each day allows for new learning, new mistakes, and new growth! #iaedchat#leadered#LeadChangeEd
Love the feeling of a clean and fresh start. I rearranged my classroom and picked up a few more professional development books to start off this year. #iaedchat
A1: for #2019, I'm excited by the same thing that keeps me coming in the building every day: my job is always changing, always challenging, and always interesting. #IAedChat
Agreed; there is something to this way of thinking. @DanielPink does a masterful job of explaining the science behind timing in his latest release, When. I enjoyed it. #iaedchat
I always wonder how we can take that idea of a fresh start each year and modify that for each week or even each day. Fresh start each day allows for new learning, new mistakes, and new growth! #iaedchat#leadered#LeadChangeEd
A2:
Professional Goals:
*Read more about standards based grading
*Blended Learning
*More PBL activities
Personal Goals:
*Read 50 books
*Be more active
*Visit a new place I've never been
#iaedchat
A2: I want to continue my health journey into 2019 with exercise 3x a week. I always want to be more active in connecting with friends and colleagues this year! #LetsConnect#iaedchat
A2: I’m going to continue building the SEL and restorative work into our building for both kids and staff. We are going to data team around the #SEL competencies and I’m stoked about it! #IAedchat
A2: Be intentional about being out of the office. Be where the kids are, be where the action is, be "in the trenches" with teachers. Continue to push how we design and disrupt school through structures, supports, and personalized learning. #iaedchat
A2: This is what I have so far...
1. Date my wife well.
2. Volunteer more (not a SMART goal, I know),
3. 2 morning work outs a week. 4. Read a book every 2 weeks. #IAedChat
A2: find new ways to help support S’s and T’s that fits into their already tight schedule of learning time, be open to help & new ideas, feel confident in the work that I do- not question myself so much #iaedchat
A2: My #oneword for 2019 is serendipity. I picked it because I am working on accepting and embracing the ups and the downs of life with a strong mental attitude and a grateful heart. I am also trying to complete a walking challenge to walk 1+miles a day-no excuses. #iaedchat
A2 Goals for 2019: Do something a little better each day. I don't want to focus on just one thing, rather try to move forward in an area each day I feel at times we focus on 1 idea too much & forget to just improve best practices in our classrooms #IAedchat
A2: Goals include continuing to try new activities and lessons across grade levels, read more books, deepen relationships, blog more, and make healthy choices! #iaedchat
A2: Create impact every day: how I am recognizing someone else's leadership? Be courageous every day: what did I do that I didn't know what the outcome was going to be and I did it anyway? #iaedchat
Books I'm reading now: Professionally-Be Real by @TaraMartinEDU and for fun, a pyschological thriller, The Marriage Pact, by Michelle Richmond. I received 3 new books for Christmas and my to read list is way too long for Twitter. #iaedchat
A2. Eat better, continue walking, enjoyed the beautiful day today by appreciating my surroundings. Read more books. Spend time with loved ones. Relationships with Ss. Celebrate Ss. #iaedchat
A2: I want to exercise often, eat better and fulfill my role to the best of my ability. In addition to this, I want to be present for my kids at home. #iaedchat
A3: hopefully as a coach I will have relationships with more teachers. On a personal level I hope I do a better job of being present with my kids when I’m home-not focused so much on work, classes, etc #iaedchat
A3 I will talk to my students and look at their work; if I can see growth I know its been a growing year The only thing I want to use to measure is student growth & performance #iaedchat
A3: In one year, I hope to be planning for another successful year. I will know if I met my goals if I have set new goals and have a successful relationships with students and staff.
#iaedchat
A3: I’ll look at my relationships and my role in my schools in hopes that they’re deeper! I will also feel stronger from getting healthier :)
#IAedChat
A3: Are kids thriving because of what we're doing? What does our data tell us? What do parents have to say about our school? What do students have to say about their learning environment? If it's positive- keep it going. If not- invite a conversation. #iaedchat
A3: I will be fully enjoying time and activities with my family, trying new things in my job, and continuing to learn about educational leadership through classes and the internship I will be in the middle of one year from now. #iaedchat
A3: If I am successfully answering the daily questions that I asked in Q2, I am going to be feeling pretty good. Impact and courage are at my core and measure them daily by answering questions. #iaedchat
A3: I’ll have digital lessons that can be accessed as needed by T’s and S’s, increased student groups that I’m working with/supporting, more ongoing collaborationwith district counselors on new ideas/supports we can provide #iaedchat
A3: Jamie, SWV HSP joining late. We will have our second group of interns in a WBL program leading to apprenticeships, and T’s and S’s will be moving toward implementing SRG in multiple classes. #IAedChat
A3: In a year from now I will know if I am meeting my goal if I can see positive relationships with all of the schools I support, if I am sticking with an exercise plan and if I have found a way to cook more often for our very busy family! #iaedchat
A3. I have a health coach keeping me on track. Setting goals, reflecting on them. A stack of books that I check off, as I read through them! Reflection on how to make changes and start with a fresh tomorrow. #iaedchat
A3: I will be better at handling my emotions and not wearing them on my sleeve. I will have embraced the love of walking:) and I will feel at peace with my decisions and choices. #iaedchat
A3: If I am successfully answering the daily questions that I asked in Q2, I am going to be feeling pretty good. Impact and courage are at my core and measure them daily by answering questions. #iaedchat
A4: I really wish our community would focus on what is in common with one another than what we have that is different. We all want our own families to be happy, cared for, and successful. Let’s start there. #LeadChangeEd#iaedchat
A4: we’ve had several fun family nights on our campus the past couple of years- I’d love to see more of those occur and for our partnerships with parents and the community to grow #iaedchat
A4:
Continue to work on culture and school spirit. As well as community spirit and support- a bit tricky as our school is in between 3 small towns out in the middle of a cornfield
#iaedchat
I need to journal more. I haven’t found it to be valuable personally, because it’s always been a chore when I’ve done it….. I need to stick with it and give it another shot! #IAedChat
A4: What first comes to mind is that we can't do much of it alone. Inspiration, encouragement, collaboration -- it's give and take to meet our goals! #iaedchat
A4 In all areas its important to be realistic Set goals that you feel can be accomplished When you start accomplishing realistic goals it leads to more success #iaedchat
A4: I have hopes that a greater understanding of AEM will come to schools - this accessibility can help out all kids, not just kids with IEPs. We’re working to broaden this knowledge on a team I’m serving and it’s exciting! #IAedChat
A4: My goal for my school is to be the very best place for our kids to be. I want the staff, the students, the community to share in that vision and share in that pride. #iaedchat
Oohhh I am late to the game due to sick kiddo..but he is finally snoozing sooo heeyyy! Mande, AEA resident nerd reporting live from #blankchildrenshospital with #babyjacob#iaedchat
A4: I would love for the teachers I work with to continue to be more collaborative and I would love our schools to continue to create/build on our climate and culture #iaedchat
A4: I want our system to be connected and focused on the growth and development of our students while realizing that success looks different to others. I feel some steps have been made, but we have a long way to go. #iaedchat
A4: I hope I am looking at the needs of others in my goals- what do my colleagues need from me? The community? And it can change each day or even each hour #keyrocks#IAedChat
A4. So I have this crazed obsession about digital privacy safety and security. Building capacity around these topics is vital in our world. We collect so much sensitive data that Ss have no idea how it’s being used. Funny, didn’t we get pissed when that happened to us? #iaedchat
A4: What comes to my mind is helping our understand how our daily activities, not just special activities, are tied to our mission to grow in faith, academics, and service. #iaedchat
A4b providing more choice and voice for Students, becoming more future driven as a school, continuing to build on a culture of mindfulness in our building #iaedchat
A5 My wife and the administrators I work with as well as members of our BLT. They help me focus show me grace when needed and inform me when I need to do better #iaedchat
I attempt to make it everyone I interact with, but I would guess everyone would have a different impression of how effective I am at that. That said, should there be just one person? Supt? School board? #IAedChat
A5: this year I would say @MrsMeganMorgan is the one I count on for my goal accountability. I am hoping I get to work with her again next year!! #iaedchat
A5: I have a great instructional coach who "gets it." We tend to be on the same page with almost everything and our leadership styles compliment each other. Having trusted friends and colleagues is helpful, so I reach out to other principals in our district. #iaedchat
A5 As an educator, my team of teachers I trust them to let me know how things are moving. On a personal side my wife...she always has a way to getting me back on track #iaedchat
A5: My colleagues at my small school are my accountability partners. We lean on each other to work for our students. I also do it for my students. #iaedchat
A6 uhh #1 myself but a #1.2 is everyone I work alongside. They need to tell me how I can help, what can I do, what do we need to know..and then I have to be the follow through person. It’s a total partnership #teamworkmakesthedreamwork#iaedchat
A5: I use my square squad- term from #daretolead and they are my go to a for school and life. They aren’t afraid to tell me if I’m not living in my values. I have my lifting partners at the gym too that never let me “take it easy!” #IAedChat
Very lucky to have several!! Partner teacher, grade level team, building, instructional coaches (current and former) husband, kids, and friends- so blessed to have so many! #IAedChat
A5: Professionally, I have instructional coaches & leadership team colleagues. In my current position I really miss being on a "team" that meets & sees each other on a regular basis. Oftentimes I'm on my own "island". #iaedchat
A5) I feel I have some great accountability partners within my math department at school, but I feel my sister, who is NOT in edcuation, is also great at listening and giving feedback to me. She takes on the role of being an outsider and will be very honest with me. #iaedchat
Just started reading this - can’t wait to begin implementing ideas into my practice! Should be reading with an accountability partner! #DareToLead@BreneBrown#IAedChat

@marialantz7, @townsleyaj, @BreneBrown
Worth their weight in gold. I have been incredibly fortunate to work with three of the finest human beings in the world over the years as a principal/AP. #iaedchat
A5.2: 100% the #iaedchat team- @danpbutler and @townsleyaj who make this thing seamless and beautiful each Sunday. My amazing staff at @Jackjetscrcsd Also- my two beautiful daughters who make me want to build better schools day by day. #iaedchat
A5: My accountability partners: my wife, my business mentor, my superintendent, my closet friends, my journal. What a great question! Thank you. #IAedChat
A7:
*Learning from everyone here at #iaedchat
*Working with my great grade level team
*Exploring student interests- even if it doesn't follow the curriculum
#iaedchat
A6 Without a doubt making my Ss co-owners of my classroom I want to refine it, but sharing our learning space has been a positive for everyone #iaedchat
A6: I will KEEP focusing on S’s and helping them any time they need it and communicating frequently with Parents about how their S’s are doing and seeing how we can help the family as well #iaedchat
A6: I am going to keep coming to work positive, with uncontained joy for what I do. I am going to continue singing on the announcements (even though stopping would prove popular). I am going to continue doing my best each day to make school better for every kid. #iaedchat
A6: Keep fighting the good fight with kids in mind. Stay positive… this does a great deal for my own mental health. Choose joy in every situation. #IAedChat
A6: Learning new things, reading professional books, trying new things, expanding my thinking box, working hard for my students, and not feeling guilty for self care. #iaedchat
A6: I will continue to work on building positive relationships with those I support, and will continue to be a support for others who reach out. I hope to make the biggest impact that I can in my role personally and professionally. #iaedchat
A6: I will keep learning and striving for improvement for our students. I will also continue reading about the profession and participating on Twitter. #iaedchat
A6: I will continue to stay focused on my daily priorities. I spend time listing my top three priorities of the day to complete. It makes a difference for me in feeling a sense of accomplishment. Continue to evaluate that I have the right priorities in mind. #iaedchat
A7: I will keep learning, trying new things, and working to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and all in our community. #iaedchat
A6.2: I will answer this one for everyone on the chat, you're welcome. "I will continue to learn, grow, and share on #iaedchat each Sunday evening. I will also listen to the podcast, on iTunes, rate it at five stars and tell three friends about it." https://t.co/dR1alMDaj8
A6. Continue with twitter chats and Twitter #PLN. Asking Ss what they are interested in learning and incorporating into real world problem solving material for them. #iaedchat
A7 I will stop waiting for the next problem to drop in my lap! I will do the things I enjoy most about my job more and focus less on the negative what ifs? #iaedchat
A7: Stop wOrRyInG so much….about lots of silly stuff…. Just be present and keep on doing the best at my job and the best as a mom and wife…..
Be relentless… as a mom, wife, and for students in Iowa. #IAedChat
A7: Stop making assumptions and telling myself stories. Ask, rather than assume. Assumptions are dangerous and so are the stories that we tell ourselves. Fact check and forgive ourselves. #iaedchat
#iaedchat - This is a great Twitter event to help students with growth mindset. Riceville,Iowa First Graders will be the hosting class of the final week in January. This is something new for us, and we are so excited and would love to see Iowa kids join in.
A8. I am someone who really fixates on things. Hi, #superanxiety. So I cannot stop it but I can work on better coping practices so that I don’t wake up at 2am to respond to an email that I forgot to respond too... #iaedchat
A7: Stop justifying and making excuses. Our kids deserve better. It’s easy to rationalize choices we make but instead of doing that I’m going to just spend more time asking myself reflective questions so I can change my behavior. #IaEdChat
A7: I will not feel bad if I have to say no to something. I try hard to manage everything in my schedule, but there is only so much of me and time. I want to enjoy work and my family. I will focus on what is in my control. #iaedchat
A8: I would really love to stop ruminating, as it causes me a lot of undue anxiety. Learned some strategies to try in the book Enough As She Is.
I will stop comparing what I’m doing to what others do. While looking for ways I can grow I won’t feel bad if there are things others are doing that im not doing yet, but instead will learn and work to implement things that will be best for our S’s and campus #iaedchat

Glad you were all here for #iaedchat tonight! Keep learning, leading, and loving what you do. You are inspirational and your people are lucky to have you.
