A1: I feel it means you are creating an environment...a connection with your students that carries on throughout their lifetime. They may not remember what you teach, but they remember what you did for them. #txed
A1 For a teacher to have a lasting effect on not only the Ss they teach, but everyone that is touched by those Ss lives. Ripple effect that cannot ever be measured! #txed
A1 Leaving a legacy with memorable moments for each student. Seeing them later in the community and them recognizing you and giving you a hug. (My Ss are now working all over Cy-Fair and I LOVE seeing them!) #txed
A1 A teacher’s legacy extends beyond the one year he/she gets to spend with a group of kids. It’s the buzz in August when kids are excited to meet their new teacher, and there’s always that ONE they all hope to get! #TXed
A1: legacy is your students remembering you, and maybe not for your lessons but because YOU left an impact on them because you cared. They will attribute things learned because of your impact in their life beyond the classroom #txed
A1. I think it means leaving a mark in the lives of the people you touch. Can be with Ss, their families, Ts, your school or district. Leaving people in a better spot than they were before you crossed their path. #TXED
A1: to me, creating a legacy means that what I give to my students is more than curriculum. I don't know how effective it is, but everyday I send students off with, "this world had better be better because you've done something to it, yes sir?"
#txed
I am originally from here (NH) but am now in TX. I was able to start my spring break a little early due to my sister’s wedding shower. And they do have a snow day tomorrow and were released early today. The snow is awesome! ❄️ ☃️ #TXed
A1 A legacy is more than just a memory; it’s a memorial of memories and what etched into the hearts of others. Leaving a legacy is how hearts changed with the impact. #TXED
A2 My 6th grade teacher read aloud to our class without fail after lunch every day! Cemented a love of reading in me that was part of the reason I became a Reading specialist! #txed
A2: @HeatherChilde18 is known for her catch phrases, songs, and raps that help students remember math concepts long after they leave her class. They never forget how much she cares about them!!! #txed
A1 a teachers legacy is often one not recognized or rewarded, but it's their ability to plant seeds that continue to grow and spread like wildflowers. They potential impact is limitless, and wonderful. Teachers are amazing! #txed
A2: I loved Mrs. Knott, my 1st & 2nd grade teacher. I felt loved and accepted, even when I decided to write "Stephanie" on my papers cuz I didn't like my name. She never said anything, just let me parents know but calmed them as well lol. ☺️ #txed
A2 My fourth grade teacher took the time to care. When I went through a trial, she visited, listened, and still, to this day, encourages me. I am truly grateful. #TXED
A1: Mr. Vanatta - he always encouraged outside of the box thinking, if you could prove your point with support from the text then you were right, but above all he cared about each of us. #TXED
A2: I have 2. Linda Haar and Jim Goehring. Both had such a passion for teaching. They didn't need to discipline...you just couldn't do anything to upset them. You knew they loved you. #txed
@tcmpub is offering buy 25 get 5 FREE on our Take-Home Backpacks through the end of March. Available in Pre-K through 8, these backpacks are great parental-involvement and summer bridge resources. #TCMturns40#summerbridge#parentalinvolvement
#txed A2 I taught in Dayton ISD with a librarian ( Mrs. Harbour ) who did things for the students and the community. The school library now has a section of it named after her. Epic Trs have a SERVANT attitude and don't want anything in return. ITS ALL ABOUT THE KIDS!
A2: Really, the only teacher I can think of who specifically changed my life was Mr. Tsacallis. It wasn't until college, but he was a teacher who let me know he believed in me. #txed
A2 my high school Ag teachers Alan Cranfill and Debbie Breaux- they knew us, knew our families, and refused to ever take less than our best! @ClearBrookHS . #TXed
A2 Cassie Johnson. Back when relationship building wasn’t a thing, or so it seemed, she created a classroom culture of caring, honesty, hard work, and so much more. She invested her all into ensuring we were living and working with purpose each and every day! #TXed
A2 just one?! Mrs. Karcz (1st grade) she recognized i could already read beyond “See Sally run.” And assigned me a special shelf in the library in order to enhance my reading experience #PeeWeeScouts#txed
I think the “they never forget how much she cares about them” is the most important part. Legacy starts with relationships. The best teachers understand this and go out of their way to create deep lasting relationships with their Ss #txed
A2: My doctoral advisor had a passion for his field of study, genuine care for the growth of his students, & engaged me in academics and character development #txed
We can all see, I think, that these teachers we are mentioning have created a legacy by encouraging us to follow in their footsteps. They are still impacting children all over the world. #txed
A2 cont. I’d be remiss not to mention the rest Mrs. Greene (2), Mrs. Rusczek (3), Mrs. Barbeau (4&6), Mr. Oleniak (5), Mr. Crawford (12th grade math), Mr. Otis (11th grade physics) #txed
A2: #txed Mrs. Scobee, Sr. English - led great class discussions about literature. After 1st yr of college, invited us all to her home to share our experiences. Her classroom was always challenging & safe.
A2 Mr Allan Berman, my junior English teacher taught me books could be worth reading. He let us read books that interested us, but continued to challenge us. It took several years, but I read more than ever now. #txed
This is a BIG deal for Texas' largest school district. It could be losing its superintendent, Richard Carranza, after he spent less than 2 years on the job (THREAD)
https://t.co/hp4hQeywXz
A2: Mine would have to be one of my English teachers in HS, Mr. Wesbrook. It was his passion for the subject, and how he cared about us as students. #TXed
My 5th-grade teacher, Mrs. Struick, in Hudsonville Michigan changed my whole life. From the moment I left her class that year, I knew I was going to be a teacher. Focused all of my passion on that one goal. Truly a life-changing year. Who I am today is because of her. #txed
A3: OBVIOUSLY, Bill Parcels did something magical to create a legacy. His protege is still dominating in the NFL as a direct result. I don't know how he did it, though. He should write a book. #txed
A2: @RenaRichardson9 creates a legacy beyond her classroom. She not only creates and runs programs like free basketball leagues for our students, but influences all she comes in contact with with her positive attitude and kids first philosophy. #txed
Just a side thought...we are all naturally focusing on positive legacies, which I love. I think it’s important to remember we can impact negatively as well, which makes it that much more important to concentrate on positive impacts and growing through our mishaps. #TXed
A3: Although I never met the man, I always think of Walter Payton. He was one of the greatest, IMO, to ever play the game of FB, but you tend to hear more about the person than the player. That says a lot in my book. #txed
Charlie McCauley who recently passed away, created a legacy in #sulsprisd by loving students. As a fine arts director he impacted so many, but more than anything he instilled confidence in so many. Never a doubt he loved his students! #txed
A3 cont: I think Payton had a knack for making everyone feel comfortable and putting others first. That is what made him so special. He could have been an egomaniac with his talent, but he chose instead to be humble. #txed
A3: My grandpa created a legacy. He did this with the relationships he built throughout his life. I was so amazed at how many people he touched while @ his funeral. I had no idea, I just thought he was my #1 grandpa but he was so many things to so many people! #txed
As a die hard Sweetness fan and Bears fan it was so cool seeing @JJWatt win the award named on his behalf this year. So cool what he has done for the Hurricane relief. Truly lived up to the high expectations of that award. #txed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
A3: Tom Landry - he coached the Cowboys in the 70's. He believed in that setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan. Then you have to focus to get it done. #txed
A1: I think a legacy is built on a foundation of positive relationships & a solid framing of expectations for life that everyone is to uphold. It is about more than content. It is making a positive impact. #txed
Katrina makes a great point. We can just as easly, if not more easily, name someone who has left a negative impression legacy on us. Let's not be those people. #txed
Just a side thought...we are all naturally focusing on positive legacies, which I love. I think it’s important to remember we can impact negatively as well, which makes it that much more important to concentrate on positive impacts and growing through our mishaps. #TXed
A2: Debra Jette. She expected that we were always making the right choices, she trusted us fully. She was also there as a person, a mentor, not just to teach us language arts. She allowed us to explore personal interests. #txed
A4: I've been trying to work with some of our most "energetic" students to design a plan for a YouTube club for next year. Instead of being upset, when they see me now, they just ask about the club or video ideas. LOL #txed
#txed A4 NEVER EVER GIVE UP ON YOUR Ss. I personally have a very powerful testimony of this. A St I thought I failed (16 year old 8th grade boy that dropped out). Saw him over a decade later and my words and actions eventually turned his life around. He is now an electrician
I knew I liked you for a reason! #GoBears#BearDown I have been a fan my whole life. It was great to see @JJWatt win that award He is someone who I think will not take that for granted. #txed
A4 I am reminded of one of our 4th grade Ts whose family has taken a former S under their wing. They spend time with him, attend his sports games, invite him over to their home...he is like a member of the family! Huge impact on a S who lives with grandma! #txed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
A3: Nelson Mandela. He stood up for what he believed & expected others to stand but within a set of boundaries. He stayed true to what he believed in regardless of personal sacrifice. #txed
A4: I have several students who see school as more of a day care. I try to make them envision their future. Make them see past their current, impoverished situation. Make them see that there is more. Help them see hope by painting a picture of their VERY possible future. #txed
A4. As an AP I truly to do this everyday with so many different kids. I try to help them see the talents and abilities they have. Let them know they are loved and then each day try to follow up to continue building the relationship. #TXed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
A4:) I love getting kids on board to help others or animals in need. It drives even the kids that are “troublemakers.” Last year when we didn’t have time to finish a project, a “troublemaker” did the rest on his own and then presented it all to a local shelter. #TXED
A4 continue to show love and RESPECT. Respect that they don’t want to be there and/or see the benefits of education. Sometimes they’re more worried about what will happen after school than what’s happening in school. Listen, love, respect #txed
A4: #txed My 💔broke today when 1 of my 7th grs said he planned to drop out of HS. I need to help him bld a view of the amazing opps that he can attain if he perseveres.
#txed Your nonverbal communication ( good AND BAD ) has a tremondous impact on the kdis and is a huge part of the legacy you create. A SINGLE BAD WORD OR ACTION can change a kids life for the worse. BE CONSTANTLY AWARE OF THIS! Excellent point @MrsKWillard
A4: First, you need to build a relationship. What drives them? What do they want in life? Using those conversations you can give them thoughts on growth & sometimes make ties to school life (intentionally not always). #txed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
A4: Having them know there is someone on their side will help them as the years go by. Check up on them later on. @pinkpatterson had Ts visiting Ss once they moved on from elem to MS. It was great seeing their reaction when a former T stopped to say hi. #txed
A4-let them know they are important, get excited when they show up to school. Tell them you are proud/disappointed of their choices. Just knowung you care about them #TXed
A4: Find out what the students real motivators and interests are outside of school, connect with them about that and lead them to explore inquiry based learning using the topics they love! Help them begin to find their passion! #txed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
A4: @SIOWehmeyer, @lyndseykubos and @kaylaswonke are Pro's at working with those struggling students that don't want to be in school. They start from DAY 1 with building a strong, positive relationship with each and every student!! #txed
A4: I think of my 1st grade friend, he will do anything to get out of work and only wants to go home and play. He has an amazing pair of teachers who keep loving him, working with him, and helping him reach goals each day. #txed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
A5 I hope they describe me as that T that was passionate about sharing her love of reading! That I inspired them to be a lifelong reader/learner! #alwayslearning#txed
“I embrace you with all my heart.”
Days after winning the Nobel Prize, Albert Camus sent his childhood teacher this beautiful letter of gratitude: https://t.co/WrpWYB43E1
A5: I hope they'll remember me sharing LOTS of books and lots of talks about choosing kindness over the other reactions we could choose from. I hope they remember me listening to them on the hard days too and always talking about college :) LOL #txed
Success. Students have to taste success as minimal as it is. But kids who struggle have to be able to anchor their hopes on something. A single match light can cause a forest fire. #txed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
Our district has a Saturday each year where Ts and admin go to Ss homes who are not in school to try to get them to come back. Showing they care can make all the difference. Ss know they are missed. #txed
#txed A5 Try to have a positive theme to your class. If your nonverbal communication stresses this, your Ss will remember you by this. My Ss will 4ever remember me by "Always Believe". Little did I know that in 1990 when I made it my 1st rule.
A5: Great question! My hope is that they continue to describe me as someone who cares, who was willing to walk beside them as a cheerleader, who believed in their potential, someone who never gave up on them, & shared a bit of wisdom. #txed
A5: As the best 4th grade teacher they ever had! (Hopefully because I was the ONLY 4th grade teacher they ever had). Seriously, i have those Ss coming back after 10 years and coming up to me to say hi. That says enough. #txed
Older and with more gray hair (or no hair). Hehe. I hope as someone who tried to show them that opportunities exist for everyone to succeed as along as we are willing to work for the success. Success isn’t given. It is earned through hard work and dedication. #txed
The LEGACY of a teacher isn't defined in awards or accolades. It's not defined by one year of success or winning Teacher of the Year. A teachers Legacy is defined by the small actions they took to impact students lives over a lifetime of a career. #txed
#txed A5 In our ever ending societal moral decay, NEVER EVER underestimat the power of your nonverbal communication to stress the #FruitsOfTheSpirit Our kids need more than ever adults to show them the way of LOVE JOY PEACE KINDNESS PATIENCE... #BeTheOne#WalkTheTalk
A4: Keep at it. Explicitly tell the student, "I believe in you. I care about you." In the future, they may reflect upon those words and turn them into an ah-ha moment. #TXed
Q4: Think of a struggling student that doesn’t want to be in school. How can you plant seeds in this child that will resonate with them, if not now then later in life? #TXed
A4: Going to their games. Getting to know them outside of school so they can see you value them and what they are interested in. Then, hopefully, those seeds you plant will grow! #TXed
A5: Hopefully as a caring teacher who helped them see something in themselves that they may not have noticed before. A student from about 5 years ago called me and he just wanted me to know how he and his brother were doing. #txed
#hashtagchallenge I nominate @pinkpatterson. While she may not be in the classroom any longer, everything she does is because of and for the kids. Ss always come first. That heart of hers is HUGE. She is a great administrator. #txed
A5: I hope they will remember the laughs we had, the fun, and that I always had high expectations for them and believe they could do great things! #TXed
Thank you all for dropping in tonight and joining us. It was a fast 45 minutes yet again. As @PrincipalOgg would say, "finish strong" this week. Enjoy spring break next week. Give your new friends a follow! #txed
Shout out to @Toups_J for a great twitter chat topic and some amazing questions to go with it. Have an idea for a chat topic? Tell us about it at our new website: https://t.co/1bsKTg9ANF#txed
#levinslearners is an absolutely amazing teacher on our campus, she has connected with my son in a way that I know he will remember for a very long time! #txed
Yes for sure!!! I alllllways have good intentions and then get sidetracked!!!! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️I’ll promise to make a good effort! Thx for thinking of me! 💁🏻♀️#TxEd
