    • JDigitalLearn Feb 18 @ 9:06 PM EST
A2: I love being known as a person you go to when it isn’t working and you need it to work. I’ve become a master of troubleshooting in-person or over the phone. #TECHtalkGA
  • AJacksonRHES Feb 18 @ 9:08 PM EST

A2: I think one of the most important duties I have is to create clarity and focus. We as educators have so many things thrown our way, but as a leader I must be the one who is consistent and direct the focus to what is best for kids and their learning. #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Feb 18 @ 9:10 PM EST
A2. As a media spec, I'm responsible for having library open full time. I've got to order books/ inventory. Teach research & library skills. Deal w students printing & teachers laminating. Oh, & listening. & webmaster. & "all other duties as required." #techtalkga
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:11 PM EST
Q3 When is it okay to go outside your "lane" and try something new? @thecraigellison terms this the "mashed potato effect" #techtalkga
  • mrsbuckenham Feb 18 @ 9:11 PM EST
A2 - There is never a dull moment in this job! I'm still figuring out my lane, but a big focus is on building relationships with the Ts I work with that will help us allow our students to succeed! #TechTalkGA
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:11 PM EST
Chance has hit the ground running. It's difficult to serve the needs of several districts. #TECHtalkGA

    • mrsbuckenham Feb 18 @ 9:11 PM EST
A2 - There is never a dull moment in this job! I'm still figuring out my lane, but a big focus is on building relationships with the Ts I work with that will help us allow our students to succeed! #TechTalkGA

    Interesting... #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @mrsbuckenham
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:12 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A2: Well, I've changed roles (from French T to school ITS to dist ITS), but no matter what, one of my most important duties/responsibilities has been to make sure that my Ss needs are being met! The only thing that has changed is how I address that.
    • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:05 PM EST
Q2 What duties and responsibilities have consistently stayed the same for you? What is your "lane" in your job? #techtalkga
  • connierun2teach Feb 18 @ 9:12 PM EST
As an elementary school teacher I feel it is important for me to share information I observe from my students with parents, administration, counselor, fellow teachers when I need advice or when it will help the student succeed. #techtalkga
    In reply to @iamryanwhite, @thecraigellison
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3 #techtalkga If we are doing something to support instruction and make a difference for stakeholders, it's worth branching out. We can't repeat the same actions and expect a different result.
  • JDigitalLearn Feb 18 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3: if a teacher needs my help, I’m gonna leave my lane. I’ve gotten a snake out of a building before. I’ve cleaned up puke. Ya gotta do what Ts need you to do! #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Feb 18 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3. Its always okay to expand - can't lose current responsibilities & always good to make sure I'm not stepping on others toes. #techtalkga
  • CatFlippen Feb 18 @ 9:13 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A2: I feel that whenever I go, my “lane” always includes @GoogleForEdu (hazard of being #GoogleEI) and also being the out-of-the-box thinker and the adamant solution seeker. Also, Chromebooks and Google Sheets! 😁
  • amandat_hola Feb 18 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3: W/out question if kids can see that you are modeling a risk for their sakes & learning go out of the lane. You are teaching them more than content at that point. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:14 PM EST
    Wouldn't we all? #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @McPhersonChance
  • AJacksonRHES Feb 18 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3: We as educators are always stepping out of our lane - that’s how we learn new things. Trying something different and new allows you to grow and evolve. #TECHtalkGA
  • MsWillipedia Feb 18 @ 9:15 PM EST
Hey edu-friends! I'm Nadia, Digital Learning Coordinator for @CobbSchools! I'm on winter break, but had to pop in for at least a little bit to say "hello"! #TECHtalkGA
  • McPhersonChance Feb 18 @ 9:15 PM EST
A3. I think that’s what my job should be. To go outside the norm and try to make it the new norm. Not sure it translates into that all the time. #techtalkga
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:16 PM EST
Growth mindsets are critical to cultivate in educators. Technology has exponentially kickstarted change and an evolution towards more personalized learning #techtalkga
    • AJacksonRHES Feb 18 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3: We as educators are always stepping out of our lane - that’s how we learn new things. Trying something different and new allows you to grow and evolve. #TECHtalkGA
  • teripendley Feb 18 @ 9:16 PM EST
A3 I’m always trying something new. I love the saying, model what you seek. #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:17 PM EST
Q4 The needs of your role in a school system are many. How do you achieve balance between established norms and innovative practices? #techtalkga
  • mrsbuckenham Feb 18 @ 9:17 PM EST
A3 - As long as the end goal leads to what your staff/school is shooting for and what your students need, I think it's okay to veer off the road and try a different route! #techtalkga
  • librarypendley Feb 18 @ 9:17 PM EST
    A1. Christina-media Specialist...always chicken #techtalkga
  • jdayedu Feb 18 @ 9:17 PM EST
@jdayedu chiming in late. A3: I think it's better to take a risk and try something "out of your lane" and fail than not to try at all..every effort is a growing opportunity #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:17 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A3: Hmm, I'd love to know more about this "mashed potato effect" @thecraigellison...what exactly does that entail? I just recently led PL at a school where I didn't "train" on any tools...we reflected on online learning. It was an exciting challenge for me!
  • Media_Barber Feb 18 @ 9:18 PM EST
Gotta run - good night all. #techtalkga
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:19 PM EST
A4 #techtalkga You have to have a filter. Does the established norm or innovative practice fit our goal, mission, or etc?
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:19 PM EST
As usual, @jdayedu (mama of #fcsdot) hits it spot on #techtalkga
    • jdayedu Feb 18 @ 9:17 PM EST
@jdayedu chiming in late. A3: I think it's better to take a risk and try something "out of your lane" and fail than not to try at all..every effort is a growing opportunity #TECHtalkGA
  • connierun2teach Feb 18 @ 9:19 PM EST
A4: #techtalkga I am starting Google Classroom with my students. This will hopefully bridge the parent, teacher, student relationship where technology becomes part of learning. Students will be doing scavenger hunts with math at home and at school.
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • teripendley Feb 18 @ 9:20 PM EST
A4: Make it relevant. Buy in is much easier when they can see the value in implementing innovative practices. If they don’t see the point, it will be dubbed as “fluff” #TECHtalkGA
  • librarypendley Feb 18 @ 9:20 PM EST
A3. I’m only a year in this new position and I’m trying to let Ts know that I’m here to support them and hopefully share the lane 😊#techtalkga
  • amandat_hola Feb 18 @ 9:20 PM EST
A4: I start small w/ innovation. I’m also trying to think more w/ the end in mind to help shape the innovation and combine it w/ what has worked & not worked in the past. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:20 PM EST
For sure! Even as just Level 2, I get asked about all the Google Qs from all the Ts... One day, I'll actually get my Trainer LOL...maybe. #TECHtalkGA
  • DebKaplanEdTech Feb 18 @ 9:20 PM EST
A3: as the instr. tech person in my building I hope to go out of my Lane daily! I think it's part of my job to try new things and find new and improved ways so that I can help our Ts do the same #TECHtalkGA
  • teripendley Feb 18 @ 9:21 PM EST
You will love Google Classroom!! #TechTalkGA
    In reply to @connierun2teach, @iamryanwhite
  • CatFlippen Feb 18 @ 9:21 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A3: It’s hard for passionate educators to stay in prescribed lanes. Being solution-oriented, we see a problem and we know we can solve it! I say our lanes become highways sometimes so we can embrace new roles. We just have to be careful of ATL rush hour traffic! 😆
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:21 PM EST
Chunking is good for learning and for new programs. Starting small is great! Also, someone else is probably already doing it. Visit that district or do a Hangout. Cultivate your PLN! #TECHtalkGA
    • amandat_hola Feb 18 @ 9:20 PM EST
A4: I start small w/ innovation. I’m also trying to think more w/ the end in mind to help shape the innovation and combine it w/ what has worked & not worked in the past. #TECHtalkGA
  • jdayedu Feb 18 @ 9:23 PM EST
A4: I think it is important to do both. It's like riding a bicycle with both pedals. If you are just riding the norm wave & not innovating or learning new things it's like a one pedal bike. You will move forward but you will not win the race. #TECHtalkGA
  • librarypendley Feb 18 @ 9:23 PM EST
A2. Inventory, media classes, covering computer lab, online testing coordinator, and teacher support #techtalkga
  • McPhersonChance Feb 18 @ 9:23 PM EST
Innovative should challenge the norm only if the norm isn’t working. Otherwise innovation should only be an enhancement to what is already showing success. #techtalkga
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:24 PM EST
Q5 The Lorax know best: "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." How does this pertain to your role? #techtalkga
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:24 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A4: I try to look at what is really needed for stu achievement & learning. If established norms exist that can help with that, then let's start there. OTOH, if we need to move outside the norm to really push growth, then let's do it! Even making Ts uncomfortable...
    • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:17 PM EST
Q4 The needs of your role in a school system are many. How do you achieve balance between established norms and innovative practices? #techtalkga
  • DebKaplanEdTech Feb 18 @ 9:24 PM EST
A4: I'm sure I haven't yet found that balance! But my sense is that there are plenty of people to practice the norm and we need more risk takers and innovators, so that's my goal. #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:24 PM EST
I learned lately that Howard Hughes converted a bicycle into a motorcycle #overachiever #TECHtalkGA
    • jdayedu Feb 18 @ 9:23 PM EST
A4: I think it is important to do both. It's like riding a bicycle with both pedals. If you are just riding the norm wave & not innovating or learning new things it's like a one pedal bike. You will move forward but you will not win the race. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:24 PM EST
G'night, Robbie! Thanks for joining in! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @Media_Barber
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:26 PM EST
A5 #techtalkga I'm going to refer to Gandhi for this answer, we must be the change. If we want to see a generation educated to make a difference, it is going to take all of us from Janitor to Superintendent.
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:26 PM EST
And that's key! Just like Ss need to know you care before they care, Ts need to know you support them before they want your "support" LOL. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @librarypendley
  • mrsbuckenham Feb 18 @ 9:26 PM EST
A4 - I think you have to do a little of both. Respecting the norms that are tried and true, but still offering ideas that can be a different approach may help someone look at it in a different way. #techtalkga
  • amandat_hola Feb 18 @ 9:27 PM EST
A5: I just know that the older my own kids get the harder I try to be better in the classroom. I guess it’s bc they articulate their own school experiences & it motivates me to try to be better. Not sure if that makes sense to everyone. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:27 PM EST
You are such a rockstar and a great model for those in your building & district! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @DebKaplanEdTech
  • jdayedu Feb 18 @ 9:27 PM EST
A5: somebody has to strike the match or you just have a pile of wood and freeze. #TECHtalkGA
  • connierun2teach Feb 18 @ 9:27 PM EST
A5: #techtalkga Technology based learning will expand my students learning by having the students engage in their own learning. This will make it more meaningful for the student. I just have to guide them to it.
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • McPhersonChance Feb 18 @ 9:28 PM EST
I think people are always looking for a better way to do something. I feel my role is to help find and demo the ways that might be better. #techtalkga
  • teripendley Feb 18 @ 9:29 PM EST
A5 I must be the one that believes and sees the light at the end of the tunnel. This is an important aspect of my job and one that I enjoy the most. Great things are ahead! #TECHtalkGA
  • CatFlippen Feb 18 @ 9:29 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A5: It’s all about the empathy and understanding that we are all on the same team. You can’t fake empathy. In order for change to happen and to STAY, your peers+colleagues must truly believe that you are on their side and understand their needs. CC @OBriantGroup
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:30 PM EST
Thank you to everyone for participating in #techtalkga!
  • iamryanwhite Feb 18 @ 9:30 PM EST
It can be hard being a principal. Keeping the vision and goal alive are critical. #TECHtalkGA

Beautifully said, Jaki! And sometimes those that strike the match end up being accidental Human Torches (and sometimes sacrifices)! #TECHTalkGA

  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:32 PM EST
Umm, well...it wasn't all bad. Some (that I didn't expect) really seemed on board with what I was trying to show and I got really good feedback from most. But others (who have shown the same mindset in the past) clearly thought I had nothing of importance to say. :( #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @DebKaplanEdTech, @thecraigellison
  • librarypendley Feb 18 @ 9:32 PM EST
A4. I agree with @teripendley that you have to make it relevant. Relevancy is so important in today’s classroom #techtalkga
  • jdayedu Feb 18 @ 9:32 PM EST
    This. #techtalkga
    • mrsbuckenham Feb 18 @ 9:26 PM EST

  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 18 @ 9:34 PM EST
Actually, I'm not sure that I do! That's my struggle! I just don't know what I'm doing that would be seen as "innovative"! I signed up for an @edtechteam bootcamp at the end of the semester though, to try to gain ideas! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @JDigitalLearn, @edtechteam
  • teripendley Feb 18 @ 9:34 PM EST
It truly starts with us. A teacher asked me a while back what she should do when people were having trouble buying into one of our new initiatives. My response was, it starts with you. #TECHTalkGA

A5. Making the library a open and friendly place...I have had to reiterate to Ts and Ss that I’m there for whatever they need and I can help #techtalkga
  • CatFlippen Feb 18 @ 9:39 PM EST
My dear, what you are doing may not seem innovative to you, but to most people, it’s INSANELY innovative. Innovation doesn’t always mean something brand new. Often the best + most ground breaking innovation is the refining or reinventing of something we already do ❤️ #TECHTalkGA
