G'morning ! Today's topic: What is the most important question to ask when hiring a teacher? - https://t.co/3RZ1mLHwgv
Good one! https://t.co/KdkxPjgmYm
Here's my ? ▶️ What do you think might be your biggest challenge, and what can we (school/admin) do to help you overcome this?
Hmm.. That is a tough question today. I've never interviewed Ts, but I'd say a simple "Why do you want to teach?"
Good Morning, ! I've make mistakes everyday, but a big one is "doing too much"...still learning to say no and not feeling guilty!
A. What was your worst experience in life and what did you do about it. Love to stay but gtg! Have gr8 day 🇱🇨🌞☕️🌴🚿🚿
A. What was your worst experience in life and what did you do about it. Love to stay but gtg! Have gr8 day 🇱🇨🌞☕️🌴🚿🚿
Do you have a Personal Learning Network? If so, can you tell me a story of how you learn from your network.
Hi
Carl from the cold feet land of Avonsleigh Australia
I always prepared to be asked this and never was. It's a great interview question, though! https://t.co/WFeMgAZHHm
What do you know about us that makes you want to work here?
So many examples to choose from, haha🙊 https://t.co/3fbP1OBROU
I'd ask teachers about a time they failed in the classroom and managed to get the students back.
Good morning! Great questions. I'd really have to think about these if I were interviewing.
Teaching is a grind. How do you stay motivated?
Here's my input: Describe for me what your classroom will look, sound & feel like. What will U B doing, what will your S's B doing?
One question I also like to ask is "what's something innovative you've done in the classroom?" Tells more than "how do you use tech"
I think any question that helps you assess the coachability of a candidate is a good question to ask when interviewing.
Good morning .
Brian, HS principal from Massachusetts.
Why do you want to work at THIS school? Not everybody should work for everybody. also i get to check if they have done research.
How about asking, "Why do you want to be a teacher?" then when they answer ask them "But why do you want to be a teacher?"
Q2: Tell me how you think the future you are preparing children for will be different?
Good question to ask applicants: How do you ensure you are always learning and growing as an educator?
Love this Michael!
https://t.co/cAODkj060J
Do you have a Personal Learning Network? If so, can you tell me a story of how you learn from your network.
I learn so much from the "vibes" and personality of the candidate, but like to know what they like about children & a success story
Good morning! I often use situational questions after having them watch a video of a T. I can gauge both the knowledge and feedback
I'd ask a candidate what they have heard or currently know about our school culture and how they would contribute to enriching it
Great question! Will reflect resilience and mettle!
https://t.co/LlqSAF76Bs
I'd ask teachers about a time they failed in the classroom and managed to get the students back.
Or what have you always wanted to try....
Good morning! I always want to know what they are reading!
This!!! https://t.co/P90jVaCh2X
Do you have a Personal Learning Network? If so, can you tell me a story of how you learn from your network.
Well you know their first answer will be what they think you want to hear
Good morning Natalie from Baltimore here and excited to start my day with you!
Good morning friends! Friday is almost here! David MS Principal from VA. Love the question this AM!
A good one I've been asked: "When Ss walk out of your classroom, what might they be saying about you and your class?"
Do you want to save or serve students?
Hey everybody! Natalie is here! the sun has risen. its going to be a good day. https://t.co/8v85o34WGl
Good morning Natalie from Baltimore here and excited to start my day with you!
Great one! https://t.co/EZ3HwsPEaE
Why do you want to work at THIS school? Not everybody should work for everybody. also i get to check if they have done research.
My favorite question as well: provides a glimpse into habits, growth mindset, life-long learning.
https://t.co/w0siuuWOYV
Good morning! I always want to know what they are reading!
What's your handle and have you heard of
you make me smile out loud Manny!
What does rigor look like in your classroom?
I worry abt anyone who comes in w/o Qs of their own abt the culture and teaching practices/focus in the school. Spks to their prep.
"What is the best question you asked your students last week?"
It has been so long since I interviewed! it was before the internet! lol
I agree - since we've had Ts that don't want to learn, we now ask how they feel about being observed & getting feedback.
I was thinking about that one, too.
I always ask for the 3 most imp characteristics of a MS T. I want to hear a passion 4 MS kids in the answer
If you c okuld go to any conference what would it be?
Agree Oona. The "why this school" question is very important https://t.co/K43BCkFJwR
I'd ask a candidate what they have heard or currently know about our school culture and how they would contribute to enriching it
Loving all the great interview Q's this AM. I'm DMing them to myself so I can use them when interviewing my replacement next week!
Great question in our world of change.
Easy answer- give them your Twitter handle and ask them to join us here https://t.co/kEg7GgAk5N
Good question to ask applicants: How do you ensure you are always learning and growing as an educator?
What is more important ...content or relationships
Super question. The answers to this could fill a book I can imagine!
Describe your ideal school culture. you'd be surprised at how often that comes up.
Tremendous question !!!
https://t.co/JsPSHIwrFF
I'd ask a candidate what they have heard or currently know about our school culture and how they would contribute to enriching it
Tell me how you attempt to teach outside your own comfort zone. Note that some good questions are not questions -- they're commands!
How have you empowered students?
That would be such a great response!
Michael, you took the words right out of my mouth! https://t.co/LwhAu69DAj
Do you have a Personal Learning Network? If so, can you tell me a story of how you learn from your network.
What are ways in which you assess students within a learning experience?
Today's would be an important one to curate!
Today's would be an important one to curate!
That's interesting. based on their explanation for either answer i might get inspired.
What is the best question your students asked you this week? How did you answer?
was asked this out in Denver by a superintendent. Thought it was pretty powerful.
We also ask about making real world connections for our Ss as well
somebody (who isnt me) should storify this.
What is the biggest mistake you've ever made and how did you recover from it?
How would you respond to this statement: "With all the curriculum I have to cover I don't have time to use technology."?
I always ask my student Ts about their schedule and if they are ready to work hard and talk about that.
I hope there is a balance, but I would lean towards relationships https://t.co/fscNJn1TZg
That's interesting. based on their explanation for either answer i might get inspired.
Then I'd ask where they keep their livestock
1st Q I asked our new Principal. Might explain why i didn't get that promotion
Then I'd ask where they keep their livestock
1st Q I asked our new Principal. Might explain why i didn't get that promotion
How do you go about building positive relationships with your students?
That makes a great follow up. I'm adding it in!
is great prep for interviewees. :)
We ask that too - being a reader is a must!
Explain how you balance offering choice to your students while still meeting the demands of a scripted curriculum.
Yes- this also shows how imp. it is to the school!
That's a great question I would not have been able to answer before . I have grown so much because of you all.
Love this question! My school has positions to fill for next year. People are declining offers.
It's not fun😝 Wish I could take you all along on this process! https://t.co/JrnOwLTzJ5
It has been so long since I interviewed! it was before the internet! lol
Not do u collect data on Ss but hoe do u USE that data to guide ur instruction
Good morning! Stacey from NJ.
I have faith in you Manny!
New to the profession: why did you choose to become a teacher?
Ahhh!!! That would certainly show a lot about a teacher, especially in elementary! https://t.co/m6j0qnYFUH
How would you respond to this statement: "With all the curriculum I have to cover I don't have time to use technology."?
How can you make a difference in the life of one of your students?
Okay, so clearly, I need to be interviewing some people haha!
Who is your mentor? Who are you mentoring right now?
Most def! I felt chills when I read your tweet!!
Give one example of how you positively impacted a child.
Must be so different! I cannot imagine!
thank god you are here. I need this one storified. It can help me with a small passion project.
Vibe & personality are high on my list. Candidate needs to "feel right" to me. We use our "Spidey Sense" when interviewing!
Here's one: If I were to ask your most challenging student to describe you in three words, how would they respond?
I want to know their stance on testing & homework
I had a 2 hour phone interview for my summer teaching job with Johns Hopkins a few weeks ago 😳
In spite of all the great Qs though, some Ts interview well & then disappoint. Some not so well, & end up being super. How to know?
How could I forget that question?!
Q1: What about education are you passionate about? (You can teach content, but you cannot teach drive and passion).
We always ask if they don't mind Ts, coaches admin observing classes frequently, we have a open door policy anyone can go and learn
No need, just showed up! I have faith in you guys.
Happy Thursday! A little late this morning.
Without teachers no other profession would exist.
Q2: When you have struggled in the past - how have you over come it?
Not do u collect data on Ss but how do u USE that data to guide ur instruction
Ask how they would fit into the school ... How do their skills align with the school's mission/vision?
What would you do if you weren't a teacher and why?
Hard one, but good https://t.co/LdFCfjaHGR
What are ways in which you assess students within a learning experience?
Exp. T coming to my school: what do you bring w/you that will help make our school better?
What is the role of a teacher in 2016?
Relationships for me, but for some Ss (esp. HS) content is the catalyst to relationship so...
If you could choose one character trait to have, what would that one character trait be?
Gm ! Josh lead learner from NJ.
I can do it. Was going to anyways 4 my records!
Last one: how do you problem solve?
I tend to answer that with "My biggest mistake was being so blindingly awesome that it was too overwhelming." :-)
Stealing this one for sure Oona!!!
https://t.co/EzD7dyeteF
A good one I've been asked: "When Ss walk out of your classroom, what might they be saying about you and your class?"
Shouldn't be looking for a T who knows all the answers but rather the Teacher who will enhance the school
Here is a big one. Tell us about a time you realized that students didnt get what you were teaching and you turned it around.
Lots of exp. with this very thing at my school. It is hard.
that's definitely a good one, it's good to know what can they offer, thanks for sharing
Yikes! This is a tough one!!!! I want to do both!
This would be a great topic question too! https://t.co/RMvrgt6cdV
What would you do if you weren't a teacher and why?
My busiest and craziest week will be in 2 weeks of a whirlwind of a year. Can't believe how fast it went.
Interviews make me uncomfortable -I dislike "selling" myself https://t.co/AXWRdjLfA6
Must be so different! I cannot imagine!
Where do you see your current group of students in five-10–20 years
Wow! 2 hours. What will you be doing?
Seriously, I think this is a great example of rallying. My biggest mistakes = pacing snafus: https://t.co/9qHnhniqql
All of my questions have a bit of the Koybayashi Maru in them. Anyone? Anyone?
It was an amazing principal at one of the most moving experiences I ever had in a schoolhouse.
I so agree! I have filled out a few grants and it is so hard! I am really bad at it. :(
What is the most important lesson your students will have learned when they leave you at the end of the year?
What is One way that you paid it forward with a student yesterday?
I'm not sure whether to be grateful I don't have to answer these in front of strangers, or disappointed I don't get to answer them.
I always go in with the mindset that they should sell themselves to me. thats about self preservation though.
The interview is only a construct. Might as well hand you a standardized test.
True. But I had a T who interviewed like a dream, sounded like a perfect fit & then was definitely not.
Then I guess I would have to cheat! https://t.co/zSaOsmPRYG
All of my questions have a bit of the Koybayashi Maru in them. Anyone? Anyone?
How do you collaborate with fellow teachers, Students and parents?
I think asking what they know about specific programs used in our school would be helpful.
Questions: Why have you chosen to enter this profession? Why is teaching often described as a vocation?
Thank you for getting my nerdy reference.
I am processing these ? and my mind goes blank on the answers! I am so "in it" every day.
Certainly the responses will help beam someone up.
https://t.co/te7tiW2FZQ
All of my questions have a bit of the Koybayashi Maru in them. Anyone? Anyone?
Tell me about a moment adversity. What did you do as a result of the adversity? & What did you learn from the situation?
How has your teaching evolved over the years, and where did the ideas or spark for that evolution come from?
Life-long learning
yes along as there is a balance ! https://t.co/SLYRHPz62J
Relationships for me, but for some Ss (esp. HS) content is the catalyst to relationship so...
I would love you to be part of my team! You could help me conduct interviews next week!!
How can you positively impact our students at my school?
So what question didn't get asked in this situation? Where was the "lie"
True, but you would be able to get a sense of how they handle pressure with these types of Qs.
How do you work to get better at your craft, teaching?
Love nerdy references. Proves I am not alone in my geekiness.
Thanks Ellen! https://t.co/ke1iRfNdaY
Think of it more as celebrating yourself. It doesn't come naturally to me either. Will keep praying for you
We love Stacey yes we do, we love Stacey how about you? (A little Barney anyone??) I need this one storified 2!
What is more creative a crayon or a computer?
What determines impact when school starts isn't anything you can interview for
Some Ts don't consider school culture when interviewing. There's job security & career fulfillment. Choose well
thats my point. I find that far more interesting than the questions we normally ask.
I agree. I really, really hate talking about myself. I'm so uncomfortable!
good one, can I steal it? :)
Or provide "enterprising" responses at the very least .
https://t.co/te7tiW2FZQ
All of my questions have a bit of the Koybayashi Maru in them. Anyone? Anyone?
Love this one. Adding it to my list today. https://t.co/ZJQs7NmwHm
How has your teaching evolved over the years, and where did the ideas or spark for that evolution come from?
Life-long learning
I am always so critical after I speak about everything I said.
What is your favorite hour in the day?
If hired, how would you like us to support you in your professional growth?
This community has led me to stretch and take risks I would have never contemplated before and my Ss are grateful to you, too:)
We always have finalists teach a class. Even Ts who want to transfer grades https://t.co/Df1u8KtZ7Z
In spite of all the great Qs though, some Ts interview well & then disappoint. Some not so well, & end up being super. How to know?
I'm guessing they must have liked you if they kept you on the phone for 2 hours?!?!?!
You got it!! My team is interviewing for a vacant position, so this could be helpful.
It isn't fun. I'm hoping my interviewing days will be over SOON🙏🙏🙏🙏 https://t.co/PGQS0cPBQ4
I agree. I really, really hate talking about myself. I'm so uncomfortable!
I was once told by a Principal, "Remember we chose you because you fit what we need," Good reminder
Question: Why are 'adaptability' and 'flexibility' important characteristics of an effective teacher?
We are all pulling for you! You will get something!
What are your kids going to remember about you?
Aw, they hired me 👍 https://t.co/sx3Xv4gx0U
I'm guessing they must have liked you if they kept you on the phone for 2 hours?!?!?!
How do you instill character education into your daily lessons?
As a new staff, u r told by union not 2 volunteer ur time but you want to & Ss r begging u to stay after school w/ u. What do u do?
This is when our team uses their 6th sense-does the candidate "feel" right-do they fit w/ our culture
https://t.co/bNhbmUvyOn
In spite of all the great Qs though, some Ts interview well & then disappoint. Some not so well, & end up being super. How to know?
Have a great day everyone! Gotta run!
Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Christina!!!!
Thanks! I better comb through these questions!!!!! https://t.co/f1GWsWySdE
We are all pulling for you! You will get something!
Question: What is 'growth mindset' and what role does it have to play in both teaching and learning?
What is more important to be right or kind?
GREAT chat everyone! Can't wait to see the archive! Have a great day
We're doing the same next week!
Ok. I gotta run. be well guys.
love to hear what they have to say about flexibility, definitely adding this one to my list, thanks
Yeah - she was good at. Obviously had researched our school well, knew the answers, was charismatic.
Thanks. Just a part time summer gig. Hoping for full time classroom interview soon https://t.co/3Y0dSHMjmX
Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Christina!!!!
we will be doing the same until the end of time.
An innate belief in working harder to get better at something. Conviction. Dedication. Vital to education.
That's an excellent point. I didn't have her model for us...
Hey Its off topic, but interested in your take. Most of the commenters on the article say its junk. :( https://t.co/V95uTuHRsc
More than ever before, impact depends: what is *allowed* by others once school starts.
Interdependence
I have said that several times then a new opportunity strolls up!
Yes... And I'm totally clueless of what the answer might best be
Have a great day everyone! Good luck surfing through the madness
Question: We are helping to prepare Ss for an unknown future, full of constant change...How can we do this?
Have a great day, Friends!
. The Union does not pay me, in real $ or in intangibles. Won't over extend myself, but I won't say "no" to staying.
We all have diff ideas is what school even is. We may as well be in foreign land.
We like to do the same. Very helpful to see them interact w/ S's AND ask the S's what they thought!
This was just great, adding a lot of Qs to my list, thanks so much for all the learning. Have a fabulous day!!
No worries. That visit was life-changing. Got to meet Jessica out there!
Question: What is the most important gift you can give to your students as a teacher?
True - our school culture is so different from others in the country, it can confuse new Ts
Weve started giving a scenario where they have 2 handle a social/emotional issue 2 c if their discipline strategies r in line w ours
Love this! https://t.co/8wBhf28FVw
Here's one: If I were to ask your most challenging student to describe you in three words, how would they respond?
If I can ignite within them the eternal spark of curiosity then my job is done. It will guide them forever.
How would you want your students to describe you?
That happens sometimes but it is not the norm. Most that interview well are at least okay.
Another read through of ; conferences (); active Twitter life; vacation!
A: Empowerment, confidence, and the goal of life long learning - most important gift you can give your students
KINDNESS. Think how much better world would be if people drove from a place of compassion instead of ego. https://t.co/DmJg1hc9aN
What is more important to be right or kind?
It is the horrible interviewees that already let us know that it is impossible for them to make it happen
Have a great day friends! Awesome interview questions! I'd love to have all of you on my interview panel!!!
It's awkward not to know what is *accepted* at school by whom and what is scorned.
Hate to leave this morning's chat-so much amazing sharing going on!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Agree. But I also had to hire a T at the last minute & she interviewed poorly. She was the best ever!!
Part of my problem is that in the DR we only have a few candidates - not many choices
Great question! However, what if the person never taught before. Are you expecting a teachable moment?
NO TEACHER is as smart as all teachers. But being smart together can be quite difficult. Read why -> https://t.co/uB5xiRFLs6
Copy/pasting everything!! So many great Qs to add to the list. Thanks all!
Great question: teach them to collaborate, persevere, and problem solve... https://t.co/LEGi1V36J4
Question: We are helping to prepare Ss for an unknown future, full of constant change...How can we do this?
I think it's our culture & climate. One reason I'm on Twitter = likeminded, positive colleagues I don't have IRL.
You're right - this doesn't happen often, but leaves me flummoxed when it does
Include lot of variables in each project if possible. Get them used to dynamic problem solving. Let them expand.
Great question - encompasses a lot https://t.co/K1c7Y6RWW8
Question: We are helping to prepare Ss for an unknown future, full of constant change...How can we do this?
What in the world can u speak about for 2 hours over the phone in preparation 4 a summer job? Did you get the job?
Spending time actively listening to them.
Does the job pay more than a Ting during school yr? Never heard about that much scrutiny. Can never b 2 safe w/ Ss!
Great question especially because it can be used with interviewees that have not taught before
By teaching higher level skills: Thinking, speaking, listening, leading, communicating, creating, persuading, rhetoric
I am adding this to my list. No more boring interviews after this chat
That is an incredibly powerful question
What research have you done in preparation for this interview? What do you know about our school?
Following today's for potential interview questions? Will keep a list for future reference 📝
With all of the school's hiring and you could work anywhere, why would you like to work here?
Lack of candidates in the pool ... does it really matter what questions you ask? We settle too often.
True, but how many schools are settling with "ok" and not getting what they need?
What if that Substitute teacher is doing a better job than any interviewed person could do?
too true. Sometimes only have 2 candidates... But it helps me see that poor interviewees can be amazing Ts
Why is it in Education are you forced to take someone because of a piece of paper and not the best person for the job?
Agree. I have been the person without the piece of paper. Landed on some fab feet anyway but I hear ya.
Good Morning to you as well!
The chat always gets my wheels turning in the AM!
Explain how you would work with a challenging parent.
Good morning MST edition!
Early on I was rejected ... hired by a charter school bcuz they had that flexibility ... most schools can't do that.
Lot of it is the same in the international scene too. Nations cant provide visas w/out some specific papers.
Actually had Principals tell me ... "Would love to hire you, but you're not certified yet."
when I was a S we had an outdoor classroom we could use in my ES. Like an amphitheater. Some of my fav days were there!
How many great teachers are we missing out on because they are unwilling to jump through the education hoops?
Good morning Today's Q: What is the most important question to ask when hiring a teacher? - https://t.co/R2HowL7N4h
How do you build relationships with students?
If you could use only 1 factor to judge Ss success what would it be?-- scores(nah)? passion? improvement? https://t.co/BtsZkU5ica
G'morning ! Today's topic: What is the most important question to ask when hiring a teacher? - https://t.co/3RZ1mLHwgv
What do you consider to be the most difficult part of teaching? How would you overcome it?
How will you hold yourself accountable when administration "doesn't notice" things?
The odd part is some Ts who do have all the papers cant think imaginatively. 1st hand exp. But stay on for years!
What was the last book that you read for professional development? What were three takeaways?
They are like links in a chain. without a relationship we can't learn content. just disconnected info
Good morning. 1st timer here. What are your intentions/goals..long & short term...why?
YAY welcome first timer!!!!
Always good to find out "longer" term goals. https://t.co/rI9A7MuVD0
Good morning. 1st timer here. What are your intentions/goals..long & short term...why?
Love this question. If the teacher is learning the kids will always benefit!
How might we support your growth as an educator?
What animal best describes your teaching style?
Who is a student you will never forget and why?
If they are a recent grad, would definitely ask about student teaching, what surprised them, what went well.
Thanks for the welcome. I think motives help determine the "flight" response.
How do you use technology to enrich your lessons?
Explain how you have had students use technology in a lesson.
This q was asked a leadership conference. I'm a sheepdog apparently. Loyal. Fun. Round em up point in the right direction
Haha! Well it's JHU, so they do their HW. Yes I got the job! About half was talking about the program https://t.co/OFGjgD7tuS
What in the world can u speak about for 2 hours over the phone in preparation 4 a summer job? Did you get the job?
The most important question I ask at an interview is: how do you connect with parents, teammates, and most importantly students.
Why did you choose education? If the why is there most other skills can be taught! & fav super power :) https://t.co/ejM1KQjdgu
Good morning Today's Q: What is the most important question to ask when hiring a teacher? - https://t.co/R2HowL7N4h
Good morning friends. Steve from NJ enjoying coffee and chirping birds on the porch before racing out of the house
Great question https://t.co/rhJ6hMy5Ap
What is the most important lesson your students will have learned when they leave you at the end of the year?
LOL funny
Trek reference... got it https://t.co/u8mztMcsTV
All of my questions have a bit of the Koybayashi Maru in them. Anyone? Anyone?
The best question to ask is "Why will you love working at this school?" Find people passionate about your kids!
It's exactly an hour if you quadruple dip!
Hmm
https://t.co/DyYF9bWO7B
If you could choose one character trait to have, what would that one character trait be?
I've not got jobs - I don't like process - put me in with the sts & see what I can do!!
Hmm... this question can be answered in many ways https://t.co/RkjIOXK021
How would you respond to this statement: "With all the curriculum I have to cover I don't have time to use technology."?
Have a Terrific Thursday everyone! Looking forward to seeing our list of questions
And lots of people start early. Some start tweeting at 5:20-- or even the middle of the night!
Ask them what Twitter chats they participate in. If the answer includes , hire them. Solid bunch we have. https://t.co/FO7PRwCrO0
Good morning Today's Q: What is the most important question to ask when hiring a teacher? - https://t.co/R2HowL7N4h
Looking for ideas for weekly topics for my Sum. lrng. chlng. Mix of tech and no tech. Any help appreciated!
With limited tech in the Classroom, what creative learning opps can you bring to your ss to ensure they meet tech learning goals?
Should do something like this for & use as door prizes at Innovation Conf. in Aug. love too! https://t.co/7FPd6DeIQr
personal trainer...love health and fitness
edu_match: RT BFC530: Good morning Today's Q: What is the most important question to ask when hiring a te… https://t.co/8dREWttXi4
edu_match: RT MrEandre: somebody (who isnt me) should storify this.
How would your former students describe you and your classroom?
As a middle school teacher: we always asked applicants "why middle school?"
How will you ensure that your students are making progress in line with their aspirational targets
Potential answer: Because I embrace crazy. (That's not just middle school, though, is it?)
1 of most important Qs to ask is "What is your passion?" No matter what the A I'm looking for a sparkle in the eye & lit up face
How about Q that's not a Q: Take me into your class; tell me about your first day... (or best/worst day, day you learned most from)
That's basically what we were looking for, lol! "I embrace *this particular type* of chaos and crazy."
Brilliant. And I'd prob want to hear the response for the worst day. https://t.co/Ab2RExwea3
How about Q that's not a Q: Take me into your class; tell me about your first day... (or best/worst day, day you learned most from)
My fav interview Q: What would you uniquely bring to our school’s culture?
My new definition of tribe: people who embrace the same "particular type of chaos and crazy." https://t.co/Ti5IIClYfO
That's basically what we were looking for, lol! "I embrace *this particular type* of chaos and crazy."
An how are you going to share that passion with your students
Great question today, ! (and my first in months, I think)
Indeed, the worst holds silver-lining power to bring out our best. Or teach us a bunch for next time :)
Thanks, Denis! What a great story...and method!
More of an inquiry than a ?, but what capital/value can they bring to your school that others cannot. https://t.co/HxtaioaZNu
Hi ! I'm always interested in what questions the teachers have for the hiring committee, their specific interests and concerns.
Good question by How 'bout when hiring anyone? For me it has to do w/ collaboration/work w/ colleagues. Most critical.
What is your approach to the reluctant learner?
Teach a 5 minute lesson on this common misconception. Immediately see classroom presence, ability to explain and interact.
This reveals lots. And if hired you can hold them accountable.... https://t.co/9Vvm4QQswX
What is your approach to the reluctant learner?
When your employing someone do you not get them to teach a whole lesson that you observe?
At my school, this isn't common practice. In ~15 interviews, I have never been asked to. Does your school do this?
In the UK I think it's almost mandatory, you observe them in the morning then interview in the afternoon
Whoa, that takes time! I think some US schools do the lesson, but not if candidates are calling in via phone/Skype.
I've found that people can often talk a good game in an interview however don't perform in the classroom
Usually 50 mins with one pair observing the 1st half another the 2nd and not always depending on how many applicants
I like to ask! Give brief précis of some prof.reading you've done recently? If I walked past your classroom what would I notice&why?
Depends a lot on their status; recent grad diff from someone in a diff district. In latter, "Why do you want to leave current job?"
I always thought responses to hypothetical sit showed your ability to adapt and that you could think on your feet
. "The meanest teacher with the tenderest heart" is how a student described me once - my favorite!
What do you do to encourage creativity and innovation in the classroom?
they matter, listen to them, confidence, love of learning.
