Welcome- Glad you are here! https://t.co/zesngXipLW
Brad in Minnesota. On international school leadership sabbatical.
In our Culture of Learning, I control almost nothing, but insist on respect, trust and safety for all. https://t.co/7AjH3v8o0a
Q1 What are the things you can control in a culture of learning?
A1: Same as what you can always control - your attitude, preparation, mindset, reactions, agility - all of which set a high bar
Hmm, does make multitasking easier or just more demanding?
Must embrace the internal locus of control... think https://t.co/AAK5XlTitk
A1: We can control how we react to situations and our impact on others moving forward. It is our internal locus of control!
A1: I am in control of the language that I use to talk to Ss, Ps and Ts about learning and growth. I thoughtfully choose my words
A1: I can only control my actions and reactions to what is taking place in my classroom. I can choose the positive or the negative.
Like.
https://t.co/vzY30zV4s5
A1: Same as what you can always control - your attitude, preparation, mindset, reactions, agility - all of which set a high bar
A1 always can control my attitude, my passion for learning, & my actions
Good evening, all. I'm jumping in late from Calgary.
We control WHAT we value and HOW we communicate those values. https://t.co/vjInC5wo5j
Q1 What are the things you can control in a culture of learning?
Choose words wisely!
https://t.co/X3RTEvFqFF
A1: I am in control of the language that I use to talk to Ss, Ps and Ts about learning and growth. I thoughtfully choose my words
A2: I can control the amount and power of the sunshine that I reign down upon my angels. They got a deluge today
A1: My focus, my diligence, my attitude, and my willingness!
I had to get myself under control lol
A1 I don't think in terms of control but of motivation. I want to inspire respect, confidence, investment, & scholarship in my Ss.
A1: I guide everything. I think guide and control feel very different. Control is shared with learners. Explore all thinking.
A1 We control our preventative and reactive measures, but most importantly, we control our perceptions.
We can choose what we will dwell on and what we will let go. Focus on the important, the changeable, and the positive.
. As an English T, I can really appreciate the importance of careful linguistic choices! Words help Ss own learning
In our Culture of Learning, we aim to put as much control in the hands and minds of our Learners! https://t.co/7AjH3v8o0a
Q1 What are the things you can control in a culture of learning?
A1: The climate! From your attitude to the things you'll tolerate...good & bad.
A1: My attitude and willingness to reach out to other Ts to continue my growth.
A1 You can control almost anything if you put your mind to it. Your attitude you bring daily is contagious
Bring it home, Chris! https://t.co/zgbs4lAIHG
A1: My attitude and willingness to reach out to other Ts to continue my growth.
A1 I can control my reaction to others - I can choose to remain positive, calm, and student focused
A1: I can also control my assessment philosophy, my daily procedures, my feedback and my tone
Thank you. It has been an important goal of mine. Words can change attitudes and perspectives too.
A1 I can control my responses and what I choose to value
So many wonderful things have happened in classroom when I don't "grade"- observe yes
Guide by the side is a sound strategy. Well said Mr. Cooper. :) https://t.co/3SIGbE0mM1
A1: I guide everything. I think guide and control feel very different. Control is shared with learners. Explore all thinking.
A1: I control what behavior I'm modeling for learners. Am I thinking the way I hope students will?
A1: we can also choose who we speak to and what we speak about. This greatly impacts our perceptions and our reactions.
A1: You also control whether or not to share your power. Are you wilking to entrust Ss with it?
A1: I can control the opportunities and avenues made available for Ss to learn. I choose to make them as limitless as possible
Q2 What are the things out of your control in a culture of learning?
How are you modeling?
https://t.co/2O5KpwMpwP
A1: I control what behavior I'm modeling for learners. Am I thinking the way I hope students will?
. And that's what we're all doing here! Finding a positive space for ourselves
A1 - In our Culture of Learning, we ought to control how we speak of those not present.
I like that- You choose what you value!
https://t.co/uXorkKzjIq
A1 I can control my responses and what I choose to value
- thanks man! Good to see you ing
A1. You can spark new interests for your students with your enthusiasm for learning.
A1: When we focus on what we CAN control, there is no time to worry ... or complain about the things NOT in our control!
Q2 What are the things out of your control in a culture of learning?
Ohhhh. I like this. https://t.co/Wg26kHQU21
A1: You also control whether or not to share your power. Are you wilking to entrust Ss with it?
A1 Exerting control usually ends poorly. We control little outside ourselves and how we approach life.
Show that .
https://t.co/utedfS3LBJ
A1. You can spark new interests for your students with your enthusiasm for learning.
A2 - Most things are outside of our control, but within our influence, if it's a genuine Culture. https://t.co/1KNtEYd5iQ
Q2 What are the things out of your control in a culture of learning?
Amen!
https://t.co/26or8HWn05
A1 Exerting control usually ends poorly. We control little outside ourselves and how we approach life.
A2: Can't control how my angels react to my best intentions. Can't control parent reactions.
A1: I can control my attitude, reactions and how I treat others, choose to prioritize relationships.
A2: Attendance, parental involvement/support, personal lives, altered bell schedules, the calendar.
A2: Can't control other ppl - you can model and offer channels, but true control is impossible (& undesirable)
A2
1- state mandates
2- other people's attitudes
3- budget issues
4- anything not related to self
A2 I can’t control policies that I’m required to follow as a condition of employment and I can’t control students in a COL.
They say late is better than never. I hope "they" are right. Happy to be joining into - Walt from Macomb, MI.
A2: Almost everything in education is out of my control. It's a shame we Ts don't have more control.
A2: I can not control the classrooms this year's Ss will walk into next year. They may have more fixed mindsets than I wish.
And letting those things go has makes me SO. MUCH. HAPPIER https://t.co/oclzziPoiV
A2
1- state mandates
2- other people's attitudes
3- budget issues

A2- other people and their reactions - kill them kindness and be a positive force no matter what https://t.co/jRUsPMGMq1
Q2 What are the things out of your control in a culture of learning?
What would you want to control if you could?
A2 No matter how hard I try, I can't control the bureaucracy, budgets, or b.s. that filter into my classroom from outside & on high
A2: other peoples' actions and reactions (although we can help shape their perceptions, for better or for worse...)
and that is SO on my mind at this time of year
A2:Can't think of many things that I can't/don't influence. I'd rather influence than control - like to be on a team. With Ss or ts
A2 - We cannot control how people will perceive us, but with a Genuine Culture, it's always safe. https://t.co/1KNtEYd5iQ
Q2 What are the things out of your control in a culture of learning?
A2 Others (not that I'd want to) - Oh, and the weather.
A2: student behavior, what they learn or "get" out of the lesson. We can guide them but can't control
We can't control the values and attitudes of others. We lead by example and focus on what we CAN control. https://t.co/CBtZxjXsJY
Q2 What are the things out of your control in a culture of learning?
A2 is the kid hungry, depressed, happy....
A2 I'm not able to control the responses of others.
It saddens me so much! They've learned so much because I gave more opportunities...net year one and done.
"one & done" has to go - we're working on developing writing portfolios & prioritizing revision
Curriculum choices, mandates on standardized testing. Anything to make education less stressful for Ss.
A2: What parents do or don't do to/for their children and students' socio-economic situation.
A2: We cannot control when adults act like children on social media...Educators MUST hold themselves to a higher standard!
so true. Our students come with so much life circumstance. We need to be attuned to that.
A2: Can't control what happens to us. Can control how we react to it.
Do what we can to respond to the needs of our students.
And the SC people said...
AMEN
https://t.co/PEAUbP3hJo
A2: We cannot control when adults act like children on social media...Educators MUST hold themselves to a higher standard!
A2 - We cannot control the perceptions of the Parents of our Learners, but our set the bar high!
A1 You can control your reaction and involvement
A2. You can't always be in control of the amount of absences your students and support staff have in a given amount of time.
Hey friends! Missing all of you! Working on evaluations tonight.
RT Q3 How do we help ourselves and others focus on what we can control?
A3 We need to keep the conversations alive! Keep encouraging others to focus on their own growth.
A2: My teachers can't control that their principal is a knucklehead. 😛
A3 - Keep our eyes on the Big Picture, the very best of our Learners and keep it meaningful and relevant. https://t.co/7dbgIiGRHI
RT Q3 How do we help ourselves and others focus on what we can control?
A2Things out of your hands are how people react to situations. You can try to make positive impact but everyone responds different
A2 You can't control how others participate or react to the culture. Parents may not always support the culture or understand
A3: Publish our philosophies. "Contaminate" our learners with a mentality so that they "infect" others.
A3 Compensate for the compulsory (not original, I think I got it from Anne Davies) https://t.co/WXDc9W1ZfD
RT Q3 How do we help ourselves and others focus on what we can control?
Encouragement is a huge part of A3!
A3: But really, focus on the positive - demonstrate what it looks like to focus on the positive. Celebrate your Ss out loud!
I expect it's "contagious"... https://t.co/NQYQ2CftQ9
A3: Publish our philosophies. "Contaminate" our learners with a mentality so that they "infect" others.
A3: How we talk about things - focusing on circumstances is fruitless. Focusing on how to best respond is time well spent.
A3: Reminding each other that we aren't competing with each other, but we should be working together for the Ss. Create synergy!
A3 I've spent 23yrs in the classroom thinking about this, & I believe it all comes down to leadership, love, laughter & learning
A3. Prioritize. I like the quote "to move a mountain you must start with moving a stone"
A3 Keep celebrating, keep encouraging. Set it into your calendar if you need a celebrate something reminder.

A3 Transparency and good communication within school hierarchies lessens fixation on things out of our control.
This goes for everything. Ss will look to you for reactions to changes in school, policies, etc. https://t.co/GalRhrZzfj
A3: How we talk about things - focusing on circumstances is fruitless. Focusing on how to best respond is time well spent.
The 4 "L"s

Yes, every complaint has to come with a solution. https://t.co/6BmFqU6EJf
A3:Ask what would the perfect culture be? Lets work to get it w/o complaints-only suggestions. Then I act in the best interest of Ss
is perfect possible? does trying to be perfect hinder people?
Trust has a lot to do with it!
A3:Reframe every complaint by identifying what we control. Principals set the tone and teachers provide positive peer pressure. .
When I surveyed my Ss mid year I said every complaint comes with a suggestion. They were really creative!
. Absolutely! Trust is a fundamental first step in building a culture of learning
i think more of a non overlapping Venn diagram for those
Q4 How do we help ourselves and others let go of the things we can't control?
Admins appreciate when solutions offered by Ts or principals after pointing out a prob Shows thinking vs complain
A3: Stay the course with a positive attitude. Acknowledge the detractors but focus on the task at hand.
A4: practice, practice, practice - take baby steps - show others what that looks like (when it goes well AND when it goes poorly)
A4 try to live by the 24 hour rule. I have 24 hours to address an issue or have to let it go. Can't let it linger & fester inside

Too many trying to force their control... https://t.co/YJXl3ftNqW

Stay in your lane, you'll accomplish more and be proud of the work you do.
Dylan Smith from Ottawa joining in...
Yes, ,that is actually what we are driving at...
A4 build with the positives
agree. Most Ts are fixers. Hard to fix someone else's problems though
It comes down to doing your best to plant those seeds. Ts don't always get to see the fruits of our labors but we DO make impacts!
Jump in Dylan, the Culture of Learning in is SMOKIN' tonight!
A4 being open and purpose driven so as to not focus on the uncontrollable
A4: Remember that we arent supposed to control everything. Showing Ss that Ts can "roll with the punches" is healthy
A4:I need to work on this. When it negatively impacts kids I have a hard time letting go.Have gotten better at not stressing though.
good point...control can hinder creativity https://t.co/AMHwPIYprs

Congratulations to as he was chosen to be the next superintendent of
I agree and it demonstrates that not everything has to go according to a plan. The unexpected is part of learning
My favorite book is Zen & the Art of Happiness. It teaches that 'everything that happens is the best possible thing that can happen'
A4: Model positivity, remember our purpose, and it's okay to remind people (politely) not to waste time on things we cannot change.
Q5 How do you hold yourself accountable for your attitude and actions in a COL?
I read this the other day. Congrats on your newest adventure!
More than being okay, it's sometimes the most compassionate thing to do. Obsessing over immovable things = wasteful

Own my mistakes & adjust my attitude when it's not helping anyone move forward. https://t.co/JS34BySE17
Q5 How do you hold yourself accountable for your attitude and actions in a COL?
A4 There are always things we control that can improve so every second wasted on things out of our control impact those that are
A5: Hold accountable by making sure to reflect often and sometimes immediately after an interaction that "feels" bad.
A5: Engaging in ongoing reflection. Finding those who will push you & hold you accountable helps!
A5: Reporting to and observing tweeps from & sharing with colleagues & constant reflection with learners

You have to be open to change...
Transparency is must, and will get great results with those that respect
Hold myself accountable by putting myself in another's shoes. Would I appreciate what Connie is doing or saying? Beneficial?
