The #2PencilChat is a weekly conversation about educational technology. As we enter a more student-centered age, let's talk about using all the tools in our toolboxes to be innovative and dynamic teachers.
Welcome to the #2PencilChat! MOST of us are in Summah mode at the moment, some of us are not...but let's talk about how to Have a Summah as an educator!
Grab your sunscreen, introduce yourself, and say hey!
Q1 Let's talk about Summah Reading. A lot of us catch up on our professional reading during Summah, but it's also a good time to #ReadForFun!
What's on your list?
#2PencilChat
A1: I have so many books on my list. I am currently reading Dumplin. Next, I am reading the Belles. Also I will be finishing the Falling Kingdoms series. #2pencilchat
A1 my fun reads so far have been āreality is brokenā āa closed and common orbitā & āthe soul of an octopusā starting āoct-the story of the Russian revolutionā soon #2PencilChat

A1 While at my Dad's house this weekend, I read The Increment by David Ignatious. I really liked it and probably would never have known about it except for Dad's recommendation. #2pencilchat
Q2 If you split up the word relax - you're really returning to a lax state of being after a time of tension. Not every teacher is good at this, but let's talk about how we rest and relax during Summah.
#2PencilChat
A2: Family Vaca is always a good start, amping up my exercise routine, and of course reading for fun and picking a new series on Netflix. I also love to spend more time with my husband and dog during the summer, sleeping in just a bit (7 am) #2pencilchat
A2 lots of time outside exploring with the dog, gaming and hanging out with the kid, spending time in the garden, working on protects, cooking #2PencilChat
A2: I rest and relax during summer by sleeping, traveling, reading all of the books that I want to read, swimming, and marathoning TV shows. #2pencilchat
A2: Iām still waiting to do this as Iām sure many of you are! I just returned from a road trip. Fun but not relaxing!#2PencilChat Iām ready for the beach! Thatās where I really decompress!
Q3 If you break down the word recreation, it's really about re-creating yourself!
How do you recreate to keep yourself happy, healthy, and awesome during Summah?
#2PencilChat
While Iām not on break and totally jealous of all who are, enjoy everyone!! School āholidaysā are truly deserved by such a hard working bunch of people! Try to take time to recharge and look after yourselves! #2PencilChat
Kind of the same answer as before, but I also like to edit my content for the classes I'm teaching the following year so I know that I can improve and everything will run smoothly. Doing that puts my mind at ease. #2pencilchat
Q4 Do you get together and hang out with your teacher friends during a break?
Or is this more a time to hang with non-teacher friends who just don't get it?
#SummahHang#2PencilChat
A4 As a male elementary teacher, Summer has often meant maybe a lunch or two with coworkers, but the rest of the time it was bike rides with friends and hanging with my parents. #2PencilChat
A4: I get more time with grandkids. I love to go to a couple of conferences and connect with PLN. I also spend a small amount of time with coworkers. #2PencilChat
A4. It used to frustrate me when Ss came back exhausted after the holidays from@doing so much, when they needed to time to recharge and relax. So I started applying the same principle to my breaks. #2PencilChat
Q5 I get super excited to make plans - travel, parties, adventures, it's fun to have something to look forward to. It's also pretty fun to plan cool things for school. What kinda plans do you like making during Summah?
#2PencilChat
A5: Working on my #ISTE plans has been exciting, a trip to CA to see son and his family, and some planning for next yr, looping up with my kids! #2PencilChat
A5 I like planning camping trips, city getaways, and local grassroots pd events. When I was in the classroom, I also liked going to inspiring places to STEAL STEAL STEAL ideas to use in my classroom. #2PencilChat
A5 I like making vacation plans, last summer was my destination wedding with all of our families so this year will be more relaxed. Excited for the AP calc AB conference in late July though! :) #2pencilchat
A5 Last summer was super exciting because we went to Colorado for our son's wedding. This summer we'll stay closer to home. I hope to turn our shed into a "she shed!" #2PencilChat
A5: Trying to schedule some PD for end of summer #2PencilChat to pump teachers up for back to school! I also try to read and do research! Not much time!
