Good morning educators! Are you ready for school year 2016-2017?
-
-
good morning Laura from MD here (currently in CA!) & I am passionate about building relationships with students
-
I'm Nicolette. I'm a teacher & instructional leader in LI, NY Most passionate about collaborating with other educators.
-
Dave from the UK, teaching with massive interactive models
-
A1 Dina a Math Specialist from Edison, NJ. Most passionate about connecting learning to real world
-
Corey from PA, MS librarian, passionate about getting kids excited about books, harnessing technology, collab with teachers
-
I'm passionate about that too Dina!
-
-
-
Connecting with students, I did that really well last year.
-
-
-
A2: this year I'm most proud of how I used my connections with students to challenge them
-
No shame in old fashioned if it works!
-
-
can you share one way you did that?
-
can you share one activity that helped you to do that?
-
-
The range of techniques I've use, no 2 lessons the same
-
built time to "hang out" during class changes and chat; lots of rapport-"high fives", "fist bumps", and listening
-
one class had many students who love music, so I had them create song lyrics/titles/albums for the periodic table
-
How do you do a virtual field trip?
-
A2 proud of weekly math challenges and raising money for
-
-
-
Greetings I'm Windy, 3rd grade T from AZ. I'm passionate about elevating/growing the profession.
-
A3: I learned the importance of taking time to get to know students
-
-
Don't make the assumption that students have the first clue about what they need to do to revise effectively
-
Skyping is great for virtual trips to other class's too.
-
A3: I need to be more organized with lesson/unit planning; better library routines; set boundaries for how much to take on
-
-
Hi I am Wendy from Ohio I teach 4th & 5th grade I love using technology in my classroom
-
I learned again that it is important and hepful to talk with parents often
-
I relearned that less is more and even when doing things that I love that too many can be too much!
-
-
A3: I learned that I have to spend more time building community in my classroom throughout the year.
-
Oh my, YES! Probably my #1 lesson this year. Burned me out.
-
I have learned that each year is very different from other years.
-
Every year I try to focus on 1 - 2 new things to try in my classes or I get overwhlemed.
-
yes! Isn't it true? That's an important one to keep in mind..some years more than others.
-
VFTs are such good ways to take Ss learning beyond the classroom!
-
-
-
A5: Differentiation; student choice; parent communication
-
I did VFT at our school they were fun. We even did a puberty instruction one with my 5th graders.
-
A5: I want to make more real world connections for my students and continue to challenge them in the process
-
Megan jumping in! A3:I learned consistency is key!
-
-
I'd still like to make my flipped learning more effective and look at ways of tracking what students do
-
A5: incorporating more tech tools = engagement... so many great ideas/tools from edcamp I want to try!
-
what idea/s do you have for doing so this coming year?
-
-
I think most of use would like to improve parent communication
-
-
what are you using now to track learning?
-
pls share with us one specific strategy you tried.
-
I'm not sure there's anything specific that you can do in the UK
-
-
loads of in school data but I'd like to be able to track what online videos there set to watch ect
-
A5: Asking better questions to prompt different kinds/levels of thinking
-
Q6: PD via reading, Twitter chats; I am blogging a lot more as a self-accountability measure https://t.co/S6f5fYEY71
-
I will continue to work on transitioning to standards based grading and I will do so with my department.
-
A6: GREAT question... no one if I don't make my goals known! Have to enlist support from my PLN
-
A6: going to try and think big picture about each unit, not sure who will hold me accountable though...
-
Q6 Tweet chats, Periscopes, Blabs, GHangout, blog type PD on my own. I usually reflect once a month on how I am doing myself.
-
Maybe find a subset of your PLN to meet online 1xmonth to chat about goals?
-
A6: I've been speaking with my principal and directors about it. My colleagues.
-
that is a great idea, like was said earlier - if no one knows my goals, there isn't anyone to hold me accountable!!
-
you can create the playlists and track them.
-
-
Our awesome tech intergrationist keeps me on track too.
-
A6: I can hold myself accountable right? To have Q's prepared & reflect at the end. My colleagues will as well.
-
I will! Share your school year with me.
-
What can you use to do that?
-
-
-
-
A7: three resources I relied on this year include twitter chats, podcasts and on voxer!
-
Q7: Google Calendar/Drive, ,
-
-
-
-
A7: I'm so low tech! My google forms online HW, Reading Strategies book () and Writer's Workshop conf. noteboook
-
Yes, I forgot to add Google Classroom!
-
-
Just ordered subscription for PlanBook. Looks so cool!
-
Nothing wrong with low tech
-
love writers notebooks. Nothing will ever replace them!💗💗
-
-
shouts to the awesome edumatch voxer PLN!
-
I don't know edumatch or voxer? Will have to investigate!
-
-
How are you using Voxer? Just looked at it, but not sure I understand it.
-
yes Corey, and right away, not a moment to be spared! 😄👍
-
I tried looking into Voxer but I am not sure I like the voice part.
-
I use it to connect/talk with other educators but plan to use with my students in the fall.
-
How are you going to use with Ss? I am curious
-
that's the "awesomest" part of it!!
-
luckily you can speed up everyones voices & I have my commute to listen
-
book clubs, and assignments. I'm incorporating it into my flipped classroom.
-
Book clubs? Now I am really interested.
-
that sounds awesome! how do you envision it with your ?
-
-
I would not mind if I can just listen!!!
