A reminder from last week: Wikipedia states, “Reflective practice is the ability to reflect on one's actions so as to engage in a process of continuous learning.” It is an intentional and conscious process. #ATchat
A1: What was last week's topic? I will have to reflect on it on my own as I wasn't able to join last week, but I would still love to see/research what was discussed. #ATchat
Reflection is a big topic these days- the OTs were chatting about it yesterday & I want to share a link to @TheOutLoudOT blog suggesting a framework for written reflection. #ATchathttps://t.co/M5tMwAR7RS
I have been really careful about what I watch. I installed a Chrome ext today the blocks any web page that might contain #TheLastJedi spoilers! #ATchat Check it out: https://t.co/fDwphsrBuR

Thanks Vicki. Looks worth checking out considering we are continuing the topic this week. The conversation last week really seemed to resonate with people. #ATchat

Stephanie is also a professor so we have a mutual interest in figuring how to get our students into the habit of reflecting. I'm not sure that framework would always be needed for practitioners but I like the question format. #ATchat

Genuinely reflective writing often involves 'revealing' anxieties [and/or other emotions], ." ~Martin Hampton
Love this quote that was on the link! Revealing anxieties and emotions definitely helps when giving a reflection!

A1 - my big takeaway was i need to be more intentional in setting aside time to reflect to then identify what I need to change. That can lead to action. #ATchat
A1: i used rewordify with a student today to help him understand what the word malnoursg=hided meand in the contexr of a statistic he was using for a project #atchat
That is something to reflect on. I wonder if that is why many teachers remain fearful of the use of edtech and AT. They need to genuiely reflect and overcome their anxieties. #ATchat

Q2: @rziolkowski asked if data walks are part of reflection. What are your thoughts about considering data when reflecting on current practice? #ATchat
When I was in a doctoral program at BU, I was briefly involved in research on use & development of digital portfolios. One of the biggest uses & advantages was for that intentional learning. #ATchat

A2: As a Special Education teacher, I ALWAYS have to look at my data when thinking about a reflection! And I agree, you must reflect to be successful! #atchat@MsCastillosMath
what is everyone's opinion on differentiation? I think it works as long as it is implemented correctly and accepted by the students and teachers. Read the following article https://t.co/wXFTMdeMc2#ATChat
Here's a great meta-analysis to review when thinking about the use of TTS and reading - Does Use of Text-to-Speech and Related Read-Aloud Tools Improve Reading Comprehension for Students With Reading Disabilities? It's the work of Sarah Wood https://t.co/cooF94g5Kf#ATchat
This is the lead researcher's book. She was trying to apply it to the college level & I know the OT school & some teacher prep programs found it very useful. #ATchathttps://t.co/qpDFZYLz1Q
Differentiated instruction/differentiation is something that I have to use in my classroom everyday as I don't believe my SPED class would be successful without it! #atchat@MsCastillosMath
Thanks so much for sharing this link! As someone who teaches SPED Reading specifically, my students use text-to-speech and read aloud quite often; however, I sometimes wonder whether it is hindering them or helping them. #atchat@MsCastillosMath
I don't know if the parts I worked on that summer were ever published, which included the survey data from students & professor feedback. And it's been 8 years so I don't remember details. #ATchat

A3: I really like this question! Things that make me unique: sense of humor; willingness to listen; good team member; good team leader; knowledge about AT #ATchat
Many of my students are working on Basic Reading skills as well as Reading Comprehension. So, while it may be helping their comprehension skills...it is also taking away an opportunity for them to be practicing their independent reading skills. #atchat@MsCastillosMath

A3: I feel that I am a patient educator and have a good ability to think outside the box. If my student is struggling with the way I am teaching, I will exhaust all of my resources to find a way to help them understand. #atchat@MsCastillosMath
A3: my personal expereinces as an indivdual woth a disability and seeking out tech for myself. This gives me the drive to tell as many people as i can what I know so they don't have to struggle as much as I did #atchat
It could actually promote their independent reading skills and expose them to grade level vocabulary. They aren't dependent upon others to access grade level content. #ATchat

A3: I feel strongly that clinicians concerned with AAC have a lot to learn from the people who use AAC. I love reading their articles & essays & seeing what I can learn about how I do therapy & assessement. (Hope I'm not that unique in this) #ATchat
That is very true! Many of my students have wonderful listening comprehension, and listening to these these stories will help to enhance their vocabulary. I guess it depends on which element you are looking to reflect on when asking if it is helpful. #atchat@MsCastillosMath

Listening to PWD will give us such insights into successful supports. Makes me think of my friend Denise. Here is the book she wrote: https://t.co/sk0rR1Kv9O#Atchat
A4: First and foremost, I am accountable to my students as they are they reason I am an educator. I feel that I am also accountable to the parents, as well as my principal and fellow teachers. #atchat@MsCastillosMath
I've been reading a lot of blog posts written by Autistics who are non-verbal - there is so much to learn from their posts. changes how you view everything you have learned. #ATchat
A4: due to temporary nature of my current position i am most accountable to myself and then to the special education teachers in my district if they ask me a question or if i come up with an idea after working with a student. #ATChat
I absolutely agree! I worked as an Aid in an autism classroom and I learned more from those students than I could have ever imagined. Those students are the reason I chose to pursue Special Education! #atchat@MsCastillosMath

Q5: #ATchat - Review Six Keys To Turning Reflection into Action
https://t.co/yUp6ohDjmM Since “planning is great, doing is better,” did you plan, commit and do it?
There's that & there's also things like Chris Klein's ATOB article where he wishes his SLP didn't focus just on academics but also social language & making therapy fun. I think we need to hear that, reflect on our practice, & change if needed. #ATchat
A5: I really like step 5: Clarify your lessons. I think it is so important to get the reflections out (written, audio, convo w/others etc) in order to effectively move to action #ATchat
A5: Key 3 is the one that I often have the most issues with. It typically takes me 2-3 times of teaching a lesson to truly clarify it for my student's best understanding. #atchat@MsCastillosMath
This is something that I struggle with. As much as I try to listen to what my students are telling me, I don't always use the feedback that they give me as much as I should. #atchat@MsCastillosMath

A4: I am most accountable to my students. I feel responsible in ensuring they are getting the most from the tools we (the team) employ to them and that they are the right fit. #atchat
Next week is our last #ATchat of 2017 & it is an open forum! Make sure to bring those questions / tough cases. We will work together to solve. Also, @at_makers offered to take some Qs about adapting toys (or any maker type stuff!) #ATchat
