    Let’s jump in. #ICEilchat

Q1: This seems to be the most diverse of the five areas in the book, varying from mindfulness to Creative Commons and citing sources. Given your experiences and/or what you read in this area, what is your definition of "delivery" with instruction? #ICEilchat
  • mdohn Aug 6 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1: To me, delivery is mix of experience, pedagogy and content. It varies from class to class and is never the same. #ICEilchat
  • brentcoley Aug 6 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1: Delivery has to be more than just dropping something off. Unless we receive something, was it really delivered? As it relates to instruction, we have to make sure the package (learning) is received by students. #ICEilchat

  • Jennife08706109 Aug 6 @ 8:11 PM EDT
A1: I agree with the comments made about delivery in terms of the various ways that content is presented to and understood by students. #ICEilchat
  • brentcoley Aug 6 @ 8:12 PM EDT
    Hi, Alex! Welcome! #ICEilchat
    In reply to @alextvalencic

A1: "Delivery" means that all the details leading up to the "finale" have been thought out, planned for, and executed in a way that brings excitement to those receiving the final product. And our Ss deserve nothing less! #ICEilchat

A1: Delivery: way information is presented which will lead to it being digested #ICEilchat
  • jonbartelt Aug 6 @ 8:12 PM EDT
A1: The transfer of key learning objectives from the obscure to application - with all the mess in between as evidence of the struggle toward mastery. #ICEilchat

    YES! This! #ICEilchat

So true! Drop and go may work for @FedEx, but it is not enough for our students! We must make sure they want what we are giving and are going to keep it! #ICEilchat

Love this, Jon! The mess in the middle, while messy, is the good stuff! #ICEilchat

I enjoyed that @rushtonh speaks about delivery through questions - especially ones that don't have an answer. #ICEilchat
  • amber_heffner - Moderator Aug 6 @ 8:16 PM EDT
Great point, Lisa! Delivery has to also = being accepted / digested. And this is SO individual based on the needs of those receiving the "information" #ICEilchat

Q2: Chapter 27, "Know the Two-Minute Summary," is one that challenges us to be able to summarize what we do each day. Is this something any of you already practice? If not, is it something you want to try? #ICEilchat
  • brentcoley Aug 6 @ 8:17 PM EDT
Agreed! If students aren't learning, can what we're doing really be called teaching? It's all about the learning! #ICEilchat
    • alextvalencic Aug 6 @ 8:14 PM EDT

It’s where the fun and joy can be found in solving problems. I like loud, energetic learning in all classrooms. #iceilchat

  • jonbartelt Aug 6 @ 8:19 PM EDT
A2: I want to apply it to adult learning and leadership. So I’m here to learn more about it. #ICEilchat
  • amber_heffner - Moderator Aug 6 @ 8:19 PM EDT
YES! Could not agree more! As a former evaluator / collaborator, I ALWAYS wanted to walk into classrooms and see "energetic learning" rather than Ss sitting in desks nodding their heads in agreement. The more energy, the more learning! #ICEilchat
    In reply to @jonbartelt, @brentcoley
  • mdohn Aug 6 @ 8:20 PM EDT
When I asked to see a specific teacher at a school, the principal smiled and said, "Follow the noise!" #ICEilchat
  • brentcoley Aug 6 @ 8:21 PM EDT
Absolutely! A quiet classroom is not always an engaged classroom. There is a difference between noise and productive noise (a.k.a. students involved in collaborative conversations). #ICEilchat
    In reply to @amber_heffner, @jonbartelt
  • eisele_lisa Aug 6 @ 8:21 PM EDT
A2: Sometimes have students summarize at end of class or beginning of next. Also have them partner and summarize for a student who has been absent. #ICEilchat
  • amber_heffner - Moderator Aug 6 @ 8:22 PM EDT
A2: Reflection is key to improvement. I don't always utilize this in my daily practice, but rather something I do when looking at specific goals. I believe that it is something I should consider on a more consistent basis. #ICEilchat
    • ice_il Aug 6 @ 8:17 PM EDT

  • amber_heffner - Moderator Aug 6 @ 8:22 PM EDT
Love this idea, Lisa! I think student reflection can lead to a better understanding of what they have learned and what they "need" / "want" to learn. #ICEilchat

  • alextvalencic Aug 6 @ 8:23 PM EDT
A2: I'm in brand-new role for me and the district; I've got my 2-minute summary down! I'll be guiding the implementation of project-based learning and inquiry strategies, and helping foster increased collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking! #ICEilchat
  • ice_il Aug 6 @ 8:23 PM EDT
Q3: Which chapter in the Delivery area stood out for you, and why? #ICEilchat
  • brentcoley Aug 6 @ 8:23 PM EDT
Agreed, Amber! Reflection is how we improve. We have to take time to reflect on our goals after setting them. #ICEilchat

A3: Ch. 23 - Start Class with Something Unpredictable. Such a great reminder for teachers and admin. So often I've been guilty of announcing what we were going to do rather than teasing the learning to make it exciting. #ICEilchat

Q3: Which chapter in the Delivery area stood out for you, and why? #ICEilchat
  • alextvalencic Aug 6 @ 8:26 PM EDT
A2: I worked with a teacher for years who would end each day with "Today's Topics." Students had to record three things done every day and they had to be realtors to learning, not just chunks of the day like PE, lunch, or maths. #ICEilchat
  • mdohn Aug 6 @ 8:26 PM EDT
    A3: Avoid bad questions! #ICEilchat
  • Jennife08706109 Aug 6 @ 8:26 PM EDT
A3: I liked chapter 24. Sometimes I get so caught up in getting through all of the material that I forget to give students time to just exist. #ICEilchat
  • eisele_lisa Aug 6 @ 8:27 PM EDT
A3: Give Credit Where Credit is Due! Battle this initially with citing images. Students often mention other teachers don't require citation of images and don't model. #ICEilchat
  • alextvalencic Aug 6 @ 8:27 PM EDT
What about this chapter stood out to you? #ICEilchat
    In reply to @mdohn
  • brentcoley Aug 6 @ 8:28 PM EDT
I've seen this too. We have to model what we expect of our students. #ICEilchat

A3: Using Quiet to Your and Their Advantage - This is an area that is difficult for anyone, but especially educators. Giving Ss the chance to think / reflect rather than Ts "giving" them the answer is empowering. #ICEilchat

Lisa, citation is such a critical skill, and also speaks to respect for others work. #ICEilchat
  • amber_heffner - Moderator Aug 6 @ 8:30 PM EDT
UGH! Such a great point! Sometimes it's hard being the teacher that does things "differently". But in the end...the learning in YOUR classroom will impact them above & beyond. Keep it up, Lisa! #ICEilchat

  • amber_heffner - Moderator Aug 6 @ 8:31 PM EDT
Way to reflect on your practice, Jennifer. :) Learning from "just being" can be quite powerful & is a great skill our Ss need to learn. #ICEilchat

A4: Teach Like a Pirate addresses content delivery. @burgessdave talks about preheating the grill of learning. You don't throw a steak down on a cold grill. The same applies in the classroom #ICEilchat #tlap
