AGH I lost track of time, and this is one chat I don't want to miss!!! Hi #dojofam!!! #dojochat
  • MrsASoto Apr 18 @ 7:06 PM EDT
A1- My favorite post made on Class Story was to have my kids hold a cute poster stating "Will Work for Snacks" to ask parents to send in snacks for our kiddos! It was adorable! #dojochat
  • ClassDojo - Moderator Apr 18 @ 7:06 PM EDT
Join us for #dojochat... Q1 is up! πŸ™Œ
  • BusyBees151 Apr 18 @ 7:06 PM EDT
A1: I often post really funny, cutue videos using different filters from Instagram or Snapchat. I download the videos and then upload them to Dojo. The parents love them. #dojochat
  • varkgirl Apr 18 @ 7:06 PM EDT
A1 - I include visuals whenever possible with reminders (google images, a photo of an anchor chart or something we're working on in class, etc) #dojochat
  • tjggmueller Apr 18 @ 7:06 PM EDT
A1: I use the message feature quite regularly on @ClassDojo. I would like to get more comfortable using the class story. #dojochat
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:06 PM EDT
A1: I use all Dojo themed pictures and make little "class story" info cards - so we maintain the "monster theme" year round! :) #dojochat
  • treeblackman Apr 18 @ 7:07 PM EDT
A1: I post videos with teasers so that they must watch the video to get the info or see the project! I feel more connected that way! #Dojochat
  • CaitClassDojo Apr 18 @ 7:07 PM EDT
A1 I liked to video a student sharing info or holding up a sign... they'd much rather see their kiddos' faces than mine πŸ˜‰ #dojochat
  • I_teach_Pandas Apr 18 @ 7:07 PM EDT
I always an an image to go with my announcements (kinda like my gifs on twitter ;-) ) #dojochat
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:07 PM EDT

    In reply to @tjggmueller, @ClassDojo
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:08 PM EDT
A1 Continued: I sometimes make an info video for parents too on how to use online programs or register for them, even explain a concept so they can support the kiddies from home! #dojochat
  • tjggmueller Apr 18 @ 7:09 PM EDT
    That's what I'm hoping. Already have!! #dojochat
    In reply to @treeblackman, @ClassDojo
  • MrsASoto Apr 18 @ 7:09 PM EDT

A1: Hey hey K teacher, tech coach, NJ. I try to include a visual when posting notes or reminders. #dojochat
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:10 PM EDT
A1: I like to engage students by allowing fast finishers to be photographers on class story - they learn to write captions, they learn to appreciate others work and recognise their peers (I make sure they take pics of everyone, not just friends). #dojochat
  • BusyBees151 Apr 18 @ 7:10 PM EDT
    A1 cont: here’s a sample of one of videos I post. #dojochat

  • EmyDelgado15 Apr 18 @ 7:13 PM EDT

  • CaitClassDojo Apr 18 @ 7:13 PM EDT

A2: #dojochat I LOVEEEE to do reading challenges! Here's one I've used for Thanksgiving break.
  • smithstrcs Apr 18 @ 7:14 PM EDT
A2 In the past, I have offered points for students who send me a pic of themselves & their families watching our local sports teams in tournaments. I like the "personal" aspect - makes both ends (T & Ss) seem like actual people. #DojoChat
  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:14 PM EDT
A2: I like the idea of a holiday challenge. That is something I could try with my students. #dojochat

A4: Hmmmm. Thankfully I have never had this problem. #dojochat
  • TeachMrsDTeach Apr 18 @ 7:26 PM EDT
A1: I love to post handwritten notes on my dry erase board or a quick selfie video! I try to attach memes or pics to make it more fun/engaging/noticeable for the families! #dojochat
    In reply to @treeblackman
  • smithstrcs Apr 18 @ 7:26 PM EDT
A4 I haven't experienced negative parents, but I have had students get on their parent's phone and post silly comments & emojis. I just turn off the comments for a while. #DojoChat
  • varkgirl Apr 18 @ 7:26 PM EDT
A4 - so far, no. But we do have commenting turned off on School Story to avoid this. #dojochat
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:27 PM EDT
A4: On the contrary I want my parents to comment more haha! #dojochat
  • MrsASoto Apr 18 @ 7:27 PM EDT
A4 I have never had a negative comment. It has always been appreciation for allowing them to see all of our wonderful activities. I guess I would turn off comments if it ever became a problem. #dojochat
  • ClassDojo - Moderator Apr 18 @ 7:27 PM EDT
    Q5... thoughts? #dojochat
  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:27 PM EDT
A4: If your school has an internet/social media policy, you could remind students of it. #dojochat
  • ClassDojo - Moderator Apr 18 @ 7:27 PM EDT
    Q4... thoughts? #dojochat
  • arenaABC Apr 18 @ 7:28 PM EDT
Also just keep in mind any tech things require lots of practice. They're not going to be experts in one day. Be patient and have them post often. Once you have some experts employ them as helpers. #dojochat
    In reply to @tjggmueller
  • treeblackman Apr 18 @ 7:28 PM EDT
#dojochat A4: I have experienced the negativity, sadly. I reminded the person that their comments were visible to all. I've also had kiddos post silly things and I just delete those posts.
  • CaitClassDojo Apr 18 @ 7:28 PM EDT
A4 I never experience any negativity. If I did I would reach out to that parent, screenshot the comment, then delete it. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ If there is something bothering someone THAT much, it is probably worth chatting about one on one #dojochat
  • I_teach_Pandas Apr 18 @ 7:29 PM EDT
A4: never had a parent comment negatively, but I would call that parent and ask them to refrain from commenting if they did not have anything positive to say. #dojochat
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:29 PM EDT
A4: The only thing that some parents complain about is that they NEED to have their child in every picture - thats just not possible and I mentioned at open house - I cant capture everyone, and even if its not your child, it can spark a convo at home! #dojochat
  • arenaABC Apr 18 @ 7:29 PM EDT
A4: I would delete the comment then message the parent privately or have a talk with them face to face to address any concerns. #dojochat
  • tjggmueller Apr 18 @ 7:29 PM EDT
I think I need to jump in right away next year and get them on board quickly-so we have that time to practice. Thanks for the help. #dojochat
    In reply to @arenaABC
  • MissAlaeddin Apr 18 @ 7:30 PM EDT
Another awesome idea! I've been creating step by step examples on how to solve different problems, which seem to be helpful for parents but I think watching it happen would be a lot easier! #dojochat
    In reply to @treeblackman, @varkgirl
  • arenaABC Apr 18 @ 7:31 PM EDT
Yes! I start tech things with my Kindergarten babies in the second week of school. #dojochat
    In reply to @tjggmueller
  • MsFiddler Apr 18 @ 7:32 PM EDT
We went school wide on @ClassDojo this year because of the negative & harassing comments on our Facebook page from parents & community members. I'd love to hear ideas as we are struggling as a school with this especially as it's a community mindset. #dojochat
  • KristenHodnett Apr 18 @ 7:32 PM EDT
A4: Reach out to them so you can learn about their perspective. Where does the negativity stem? Make a connection #dojochat
  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:32 PM EDT
    good advice #dojochat

A2: My fun thing was a challenge 4 me! I spent the holidays in my home state of TX. I was on a quest to find TX postcards to send to each of my Ss. Fams sent pics of Ss receiving the postcards via @ClassDojo ! It was SO fun! #dojochat
    In reply to @treeblackman, @ClassDojo

  • I_teach_Pandas Apr 18 @ 7:34 PM EDT
A5: like you said before, it's a window into the classroom! #dojochat
  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:34 PM EDT
    That would be great! #dojochat
    In reply to @treeblackman
  • MrsASoto Apr 18 @ 7:34 PM EDT
A5 I LOVE the instant communication between home and school. Allowing parents to see how amazing our hard working Ss are performing each day is priceless! #dojochat
  • TeachMrsDTeach Apr 18 @ 7:34 PM EDT
A4: Thankfully no! Gosh, I think I would call that family member immediately and try to peacefully find out how I could help! #DojoChat
    In reply to @treeblackman
  • CaitClassDojo Apr 18 @ 7:35 PM EDT
A5 I can celebrate EVERY kiddo with a simple photo or video and families know their child is loved, taken care of, celebrated with a window into their child's day ❀️ #dojochat
  • MsFiddler Apr 18 @ 7:35 PM EDT
A5: That is allows any staff member connected to your class to share learning with parents. It makes it much more collaborative and a team effort when everyone is involved & celebrating #dojochat
  • NEsMrsMoulton Apr 18 @ 7:35 PM EDT
I teach special education, are there any other special ed teachers who use #classdojo to track student IEP goals? #dojochat
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:35 PM EDT
A5: It allows my parents to feel connected to our class, its like they are there living every moment with us! It's simply a game changer - It keeps them calm and at peace too! They feel they can support from home too! #dojochat
  • varkgirl Apr 18 @ 7:35 PM EDT
A5 - Love how you can share so many different things! #dojochat
  • I_teach_Pandas Apr 18 @ 7:36 PM EDT
I use the 0 points to track Social Emotional and Independent functioning goals. I don't really use it for academic goals. #dojochat

  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:36 PM EDT
A5: Does anyone find it difficult to post while teaching? #dojochat
  • MissAinChile Apr 18 @ 7:36 PM EDT
A5.1 - This year a mom said to me, "Miss I love all the pictures and HOW they are learning, I am so so happy, thank you" - I felt like my hard work paid off by taking that extra step and documenting our journey together! #dojochat
  • arenaABC Apr 18 @ 7:37 PM EDT
A4: This. Sharing my classroom with parents and reading their kind words. Teaching is tough so having suppprtive parents is the best! #dojochat
  • CaitClassDojo Apr 18 @ 7:37 PM EDT
I always let parents know, if I don't post or give points, guess what... we're busy learning!!! LOL... but I also will post after school sometimes too πŸ˜‰ #dojochat
    In reply to @wendygunther3
  • TeachMrsDTeach Apr 18 @ 7:38 PM EDT
A5: I like how it can be modified to suit the needs of each Tt/class. For ex.I do not give indiv. Ss points, only "team" (class,) & "table" points. I also do not take points away. I use @ClassDojo points as "CHAMPs" points! #DojoChat
    In reply to @treeblackman, @ClassDojo
  • MsFiddler Apr 18 @ 7:38 PM EDT
We don't have a special education teacher in our school but as a part of behaviour plans and IEPs our Ts & TAs are using it for those who have behaviour goals as a part of their IEP. #dojochat
    In reply to @NEsMrsMoulton
  • tjggmueller Apr 18 @ 7:38 PM EDT
@ClassDojo - stories, behavior, or messages helps me focus on the positive. I also think it keeps the positive parent connections so when the tough talks have to come, it’s easier. #dojochat
  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:38 PM EDT

  • treeblackman Apr 18 @ 7:42 PM EDT
A6: #dojochat I love that I can post links to documents that were sent home! No more "Suzzie didn't get one" or "We lost it" it's right there!

A6: I love that it gives parents responsibilities to check it - plus instead of sending tons of e-mails its all in one place and I can update it at my pace - if I want to upload 1, 2, 3, or more things for the day I can and not bombard emails #dojochat

A6: This year I have 100% of my Ss fams connected on @ClassDojo This is my #1 way to communicate on a daily basis with ALL of my fams. I still write in agenda books, but boy this is just so nice, fun, and my parents love it! #dojochat
  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:45 PM EDT
A6: Class Story is much more convenient for parents too. They can check from anywhere. They have to wait to see their child to check an agenda book. It can help parents plan their evenings earlier in the day. #dojochat

  • CaitClassDojo Apr 18 @ 7:52 PM EDT
A7 ATTN Admin!!! Let parents see how AWESOME teachers are... have teachers share their classes with you, during a walk through, take a pic or vid of teacher in action and post to Class Story! #dojochat
  • arenaABC Apr 18 @ 7:52 PM EDT
I can't imagine NOT using dojo! It's so amazing that all K-3 @ilearnschools use dojo as the primary means of communication. It's even listed on our teacher of the year scoring guide! #dojochat

  • wendygunther3 Apr 18 @ 7:54 PM EDT
A7: Students would learn a lot! They would have to decide what to include and how to present the information and who would do it. #dojochat
  • I_teach_Pandas Apr 18 @ 7:54 PM EDT
