It's finally time... it's time to #dojochat all things Class Story w @treeblackman ππ RT to remind your friends, we can't wait to hear all the unique ideas you have to share!
A1- My favorite post made on Class Story was to have my kids hold a cute poster stating "Will Work for Snacks" to ask parents to send in snacks for our kiddos! It was adorable! #dojochat
A1: I often post really funny, cutue videos using different filters from Instagram or Snapchat. I download the videos and then upload them to Dojo. The parents love them.
#dojochat
A1 - I include visuals whenever possible with reminders (google images, a photo of an anchor chart or something we're working on in class, etc) #dojochat
A1 Continued: I sometimes make an info video for parents too on how to use online programs or register for them, even explain a concept so they can support the kiddies from home! #dojochat
A1: I like to engage students by allowing fast finishers to be photographers on class story - they learn to write captions, they learn to appreciate others work and recognise their peers (I make sure they take pics of everyone, not just friends). #dojochat
A1 I always try to include a picture to my post. Most of my pictures will have students in them such as a class picture! Who wouldn't "click" the π feature with their sweet faces!!??! #dojochat
A2: I send home challenge questions after we have studied a topic and parents have to message their child's answer back to me for dojo dollars. #dojochat
A2 - @gregtangmath has math challenges for most holidays/breaks that I share on Class Story... I also shared a @ProdigyGame challenge over Spring Break with a premium membership offered as a reward. #dojochat
A2 In the past, I have offered points for students who send me a pic of themselves & their families watching our local sports teams in tournaments. I like the "personal" aspect - makes both ends (T & Ss) seem like actual people. #DojoChat
A2: I always send a Mojo themed greeting for holidays on Class Story and for break I ask kids to do challenges, send pictures, ect.. and I give them bonus points! #dojochat
It helps especially for math. Or I'll take a photo of an example of a problem we completed together in class so parents can see how it is done! #dojochat
A3: #dojochat I love to show recess! Something about knowing your child is happy and OK during the day warms my mama heart. I like to do the same for others!
A3: We post non-stop. They post pictures of their proud moments and any activity they can't wait to share. I post slideshows of group work, assemblies, etc. Basically, if it's happening in my classroom...it's going on our story or their story #dojochat
A3 Some of the most exciting events can be posted to Class Story! This was our Skype with an Astronaut session! Our Ss LOVED being able to interact with a real live astronaut in REAL TIME! #dojochat
A3: We do Tech Buddies with the Grade 1 class so we are constantly sharing that. I am more often sharing our ELA work especially the before & after Writer's Workshop process or students showing our 7 teachings.#dojochat
A3: I share @GetKahoot challenge codes, @GoNoodle videos, videos of our class or pictures of us in action, shout-outs are my new thing this year I want to post on class story, and I post information, supplies we may need, documents and more! #dojochat
I have the QR code posted in my room in 4 different locations. I have one or two students that never forget to post...once one of them starts posting, everyone else grabs a device and posts. #dojochat
A3 I always shared field trips, parties, super cool science experiments, anything that our class was excited about and would spark conversations at home #dojochat
A3 continued, I post homework assignments, activities of the day, notifications while on field trips, so much to list and not enough characters! #dojochat
20 min until #dojochat! π¨ Get ready to share ideas and gain some new ones... how do you use Class Story in your classroom? π€·ββοΈ "See" you at 4pm PST and RT to remind your friends! π
A1: I love to post handwritten notes on my dry erase board or a quick selfie video! I try to attach memes or pics to make it more fun/engaging/noticeable for the families! #dojochat
A4 I haven't experienced negative parents, but I have had students get on their parent's phone and post silly comments & emojis. I just turn off the comments for a while. #DojoChat
A4 I have never had a negative comment. It has always been appreciation for allowing them to see all of our wonderful activities. I guess I would turn off comments if it ever became a problem. #dojochat
Also just keep in mind any tech things require lots of practice. They're not going to be experts in one day. Be patient and have them post often. Once you have some experts employ them as helpers. #dojochat
#dojochat
A4: I have experienced the negativity, sadly. I reminded the person that their comments were visible to all. I've also had kiddos post silly things and I just delete those posts.
A4 I never experience any negativity. If I did I would reach out to that parent, screenshot the comment, then delete it. π€·ββοΈ If there is something bothering someone THAT much, it is probably worth chatting about one on one #dojochat
A4: never had a parent comment negatively, but I would call that parent and ask them to refrain from commenting if they did not have anything positive to say. #dojochat
A4: The only thing that some parents complain about is that they NEED to have their child in every picture - thats just not possible and I mentioned at open house - I cant capture everyone, and even if its not your child, it can
spark a convo at home!
#dojochat
Another awesome idea! I've been creating step by step examples on how to solve different problems, which seem to be helpful for parents but I think watching it happen would be a lot easier! #dojochat
We went school wide on @ClassDojo this year because of the negative & harassing comments on our Facebook page from parents & community members. I'd love to hear ideas as we are struggling as a school with this especially as it's a community mindset. #dojochat
A2: My fun thing was a challenge 4 me! I spent the holidays in my home state of TX. I was on a quest to find TX postcards to send to each of my Ss. Fams sent pics of Ss receiving the postcards via @ClassDojo ! It was SO fun! #dojochat
A4: We went school wide on @ClassDojo this year because of the negative & harassing comments on our Facebook page from parents & community members. I'd love to hear ideas as we are struggling as a school with this especially as it's a community mindset. #dojochat
A5 I LOVE the instant communication between home and school. Allowing parents to see how amazing our hard working Ss are performing each day is priceless! #dojochat
A5 I can celebrate EVERY kiddo with a simple photo or video and families know their child is loved, taken care of, celebrated with a window into their child's day β€οΈ #dojochat
A5: That is allows any staff member connected to your class to share learning with parents. It makes it much more collaborative and a team effort when everyone is involved & celebrating #dojochat
A5: It allows my parents to feel connected to our class, its like they are there living every moment with us! It's simply a game changer - It keeps them calm and at peace too! They feel they can support from home too! #dojochat
A5.1 - This year a mom said to me, "Miss I love all the pictures and HOW they are learning, I am so so happy, thank you" - I felt like my hard work paid off by taking that extra step and documenting our journey together! #dojochat
I always let parents know, if I don't post or give points, guess what... we're busy learning!!! LOL... but I also will post after school sometimes too π #dojochat
A5: I like how it can be modified to suit the needs of each Tt/class. For ex.I do not give indiv. Ss points, only "team" (class,) & "table" points. I also do not take points away. I use @ClassDojo points as "CHAMPs" points! #DojoChat
We don't have a special education teacher in our school but as a part of behaviour plans and IEPs our Ts & TAs are using it for those who have behaviour goals as a part of their IEP. #dojochat
@ClassDojo - stories, behavior, or messages helps me focus on the positive. I also think it keeps the positive parent connections so when the tough talks have to come, itβs easier. #dojochat
Q6: Having to print and send parent notices for EVERYTHING (i.e. afterschool events, class fundraisers, etc.) . If I forget to it's a click away! #dojochat
A6 Using Class Story for all of my "Thank you notes" saves me UNTOLD amounts of time! Taking a picture of the gift with a nice comments eliminates the need to spend hours writing notes! #dojochat
A6: I love that it gives parents responsibilities to check it - plus instead of sending tons of e-mails its all in one place and I can update it at my pace - if I want to upload 1, 2, 3, or more things for the day I can and not bombard emails #dojochat
And we can see who viewed it. It's awesome how it makes parents accountabl instead of hearing the well I never got it - well you never looked at it. #dojochat
A6: This year I have 100% of my Ss fams connected on @ClassDojo This is my #1 way to communicate on a daily basis with ALL of my fams. I still write in agenda books, but boy this is just so nice, fun, and my parents love it! #dojochat
A6: Class Story is much more convenient for parents too. They can check from anywhere. They have to wait to see their child to check an agenda book. It can help parents plan their evenings earlier in the day. #dojochat
Sidenote: I have taken criticism from colleagues before about using @ClassDojo, but I so love it when the parents think it is wonderful and make such positive remarks. I don't know why teachers don't use it. #dojochat
A7: Difficult concept? Allow a student to teach it via video on Class Story (parents will thank you... it's probably been awhile since they've multiplied fractions) π #dojochat
A7 ATTN Admin!!! Let parents see how AWESOME teachers are... have teachers share their classes with you, during a walk through, take a pic or vid of teacher in action and post to Class Story! #dojochat
I can't imagine NOT using dojo! It's so amazing that all K-3 @ilearnschools use dojo as the primary means of communication. It's even listed on our teacher of the year scoring guide! #dojochat
In reply to
@tjggmueller, @ClassDojo, @ilearnschools
A7: Scheduled posts! like scheduled messages but with images. for reminders and what not (also to make break challenges less work on break ;-)) #dojochat
Last year I had 4! This year I was very intentional about inviting them face 2 face at our first conference and at open house. I even had the codes there and offered to help them find it in the app store! LOL #DojoChat
Thank you @treeblackman for an amazing #dojochat.. we're always so inspired by the amazing teachers who join us each week. β€οΈ "See" you next time #dojofam
