Welcome to #NYEDChat with @danieldmccabe at the moderating desk & @Matt_Furey1 guest moderator. I am behind the scenes greeting and juggling two other chat: #TeachWrite & #WonderChat. Bring your voice to find out what the buzz is at NYEDChat.
Bryan here excited to be a part of #wonderchat I am the Education Relationship Manager over at @Buncee I am excited to here all of these app smashing ideas!!
Q1 Appsmashing is the process of using two or more apps together to obtain a result impossible by just any one app. What benefits does appsmashing provide to student learning in the classroom? #WonderChat
Sadly, when you guys are FREEZING, we're always somewhere between a little chilly to kinda cold in N. Florida, but you're welcome to come hang out...
#WonderChat
I'm really looking forward to learning about app smashing tonight. Admittedly, I know nothing about these apps or platforms. I'm a true student tonight. Observing and taking notes all evening. #wonderchat
A1: #AppSmashing provides a creative outlet, boosts engagement, and elevates the overall academic level of the classroom. Not to mention the fact that it provides opportunities for shy students to shine! #WonderChat
A1 App smashing allows Ss to get creative and think a little bit deeper on how they might combine a few tools to demonstrate their learning. Especially a fan of encouraging Ss to app smash with tools of their choice. Then I can learn from them too! #WonderChat

A1: App smashing gives students the chance to learn different skills (video editing, public speaking, design, etc.) by combining the various apps in one assignment. It provides more exposure. #wonderchat
And rightfully so for their having disrupted a perfectly-good JT concert. I was just getting into the Troll's theme song when it felt like they ripped the rug out from underneath the whole joint to return to "foos-ball." #WonderChat

A1 #appsmashing creates more opps for Ss to learn how to leverage tech, prob solv, be creative, and build their #digcit skills in the process #Wonderchat
A1 Appsmashing makes kids feel successful when we can guide them in the right direction for what they need and want. Don't have to sacrifice as much to amplify their voices. #wonderchat

A1 app smashing allows students to go above and beyond what a single app can do. Students can be even more creative and learn to be problem solvers. They come up with amazing ways to app smash when given the opportunities! #wonderchat
A1: #AppSmashing allows both students and teachers to unleash their creativity by integrating a variety of resources to increase student engagement #WonderChat
Q1 Appsmashing is the process of using two or more apps together to obtain a result impossible by just any one app. What benefits does appsmashing provide to student learning in the classroom? #WonderChat
#Wonderchat A1 Students are more able to identify their strengths through whichever apps make more sense to them, since different apps tend utilize different skills.
A1: Can I ask a question to the question. . .could app smashing be akin to writing in multigenre except that it is in a 2.0 modality? This might help me to put a frame around the conversation tonight. Sorry for disrupting the flow. I want to learn. I'm wondering. #wonderchat
hi #wonderchat I am a library media specialist from Farmingdale NY. Huge fan of Buncee and Flipgrid. Looking to use wonderopolis in future lessons perhaps to inspire ideas for passion projects
A1 I am appsmash to get the results I want. Design counts. Example at https://t.co/gCumIx9PoO From phone camera to app. Insert #poetry & reflect on the product. It's all about process. #Wonderchat
A1: App smashing allows kids to have even more #CREATIVEPOWER! I love to try new things w/ apps! Here's the thing, my mum says it's sort of like reading across a text set when you app smash! If you're a literacy person you'll get it! #wonderchat#KidsCanTeachUs#BOOM💥 @clemenkat

Multitasking and reading you when I really should finish my grading 😜Annick from New Brunswick 🇨🇦. App smashing allows student to become experts for life with tools they would probably not discover outside of class #wonderchat
A1: appsmashing allows for students to use the best of each platform and share, create and express learning in ways that is relevant to them! #Wonderchat
A2: Start slow. Learn one or two apps individually and then work towards smashing them together. Also, take time to play with the app prior to students using it to help familiarize yourself with it's features. #wonderchat
Question 3: What activities have you done in class previously to help your students realize their agency in learning? How did it go? What were the student reactions? #educacy
It’s a really important skill, too, especially when you get to the workplace. Helps train students to also learn how to discover new tools in the future that might help them succeed in their work! #WonderChat
A2 There could be such a thing as over app smashing so there's nothing wrong with starting small. Pick two or three. Also, this is not what they mean by app smashing. #WonderChat
A2 Don’t be afraid to try things. Better yet, don’t be afraid to let students discover ways to app smash on their own. You never know what might just turn out to be a mind-blowing app smash project. You can’t break it. Try! #wonderchat
That is what is so important! Staying relevant with the trends and giving your students the platform to express their learning through different apps! #WonderChat
A2 Consider what your purpose is, what are the tools that can expand where, when and how Ss are learning, check accessibility, and ask Ss for input along the way, connect w/ #PLN for ideas #Wonderchat
A1: App smashing also encourages kids to take risks and try new things out! I think tech is all about trying new things and not being afraid! I teach my mum tricks for app smashes ALL THE TIME! #wonderchat#KidsCanTeachUs#LivBits
A2 Start w/ simple tools. Check compatibility - not all tools play nicely together (@Buncee@Flipgrid Play Nice w/ Everyone!) Then Let the Crazy Begin! #Wonderchat#appsmashing
A2 Be like Dora, and explore! Play around with different tools to see which ones fit your classroom's needs. Then, dive right in and try using them together. #Wonderchat
A1: #Appsmashing allows Ss to take something incredible & make it into something way beyond AWESOME! It's making the best of two & maybe even three worlds sometimes into something out of this world. They have so much fun in the process. It's incredible to watch! #WonderChat
A2 Consider what your purpose is, what are the tools that can expand where, when and how Ss are learning, check accessibility, and ask Ss for input along the way, connect w/ #PLN for ideas #Wonderchat
A2 Take it one step at a time, no need to rush to integrate thirty apps at once, have a clearly defined goal and scaffold. Sometimes kids are intimidated with new tech and apps, they learn quickly, but want to rush! No need to rush ☺️ #WonderChat
A2 Be like Dora, and explore! Play around with different tools to see which ones fit your classroom's needs. Then, dive right in and try using them together. #Wonderchat
A2 Don't second guess it. Just let the project happen. #AR Appsmashing @Snapchat and @msqrdme with @Buncee then google slides for presentation. FUN FUN #wonderchat
A2 Consider what your purpose is, what are the tools that can expand where, when and how Ss are learning, check accessibility, and ask Ss for input along the way, connect w/ #PLN for ideas #Wonderchat
Yes! So important to help encourage them to try and explore new tools. It’s all about encouraging students to learn new ways to share and present their learning. Super important for being college and career ready #WonderChat
Q2 baby steps with 2 apps, but won’t take long for ideas to come. I forget sometimes and think: duh! App smashing makes everything easier. All about the Ss but, share when it simplifies Ts job as well! Like 2 take stand as the expert in my class when doubters doubt! #wonderchat
A2) don’t be afraid to let your kids wander. Some of the most amazing app smashes have been from kids saying, “wouldn’t it be cool if we could use this and this together?!?” #Wonderchat
Question 4: It's hard for teachers to cede control to students. How do you help colleagues who struggle with the concept of increasing student agency in the classroom? #educacy
A2 #appsmashing, as anything, needs time for play and practice. Ts need to try it out & be ready to let Ss play, to create, to innovate
This can be messy! #wonderchat
Remember in the 90s/00s when teachers would say, "We're going to do a computer activity."? You'd never say, "Alright, girls and boys, we're going to do a pencil activity." The tools don't drive the learning, the learning should drive tool choice!
#WonderChat
A2: you just have to begin! Pick one app and let Ss explore. Better yet, give Ss options and let them teach the Ts. Ts can be ok with not knowing how the app works. Ss can help them with the learning! #Wonderchat
A2 Be like Dora, and explore! Play around with different tools to see which ones fit your classroom's needs. Then, dive right in and try using them together. #Wonderchat
A2 Start small and keep the feeling of play alive. If you feel frustrated, take a break and dial it back. Keep it simple, be patient, and have fun -- always! #Wonderchat
Wonder Lead, Paul, with another question for the ambassadors and the guests tonight (I'm feeling kind of needy in a 2.0 kind of way). Do students cite their platforms/apps at the end of the process/product? Is this necessary? Responsible? Thoughts. . . #wonderchat
A2: I think it's important to think about your purpose for the app smash. Sometimes it's just fun, but if you want to use it in a purposeful way, it's important to consider your audience and your message. #wonderchat
A4 Need to put Ts and Ss in learning curve at same time. We are ALL learners. Good for Ss to see Ts don’t have all the answers. Perfect time to learn from one another. And it’s fun! #WonderChat
I actually have to say we're going to do a pencil activity! Only because if I don't clarify they'll think this tech guy is bluffing. No I don't just always use Chromebooks, iPads, Minecraft, Drones & Google Cardboard. Sometimes the pencil is the best tech for the job! #WonderChat
I vote no. Adults don't cite Powerpoint, Slides, or other presentation tools. The tools are for creating. Now, if someone asked, they should be able to tell you, but no need to cite. #wonderchat
Yes. For example when we use Canva, I have them add the Canva icon. They think it makes it look fancy and it shows those who see it what they are using. #Wonderchat
A3 So I haven’t used Wonderopolis yet, so on this I’m here to learn from the best! 😍 I signed up for Wonder Ground today so I’m super excited! #WonderChat
A3 I haven't had the chance yet, as I just went back into the college classroom, but I would like to use all three for a multimodal composition I'm doing for my doc class. #wonderchat
A2: I think it's important to think about your purpose for the app smash. Sometimes it's just fun, but if you want to use it in a purposeful way, it's important to consider your audience and your message. #wonderchat
A3 We've used @Wonderopolis & @Buncee for journaling. Great prompts live here too. I like the idea of having a chain story in @Flipgrid (each student adds a line) and then bringing it to life in a @Buncee book. I think I just app smashed a new idea! #WonderChat
A3 Wonderopolis was a great go-to when my students wanted to go down fascinating rabbit holes. And they loved putting stories together in Buncee because they could use the pictures to drive their writing (and vice versa)!
#Wonderchat
Q3: I have used @Buncee to publish writing and illustrate vocabulary words. @Flipgrid is our based for discussion & debates as well as our platform for sharing anything we've created including @ChatterPixIt reflections, iMovie projects, & green screen presentations. #wonderchat
Nice. So, in a way, including those icons/emblems, it's like a level-up opportunity. Like book awards, is it cool to fill up the sides with the "coins" from the different apps? Do students work these into the design elements? I'm going to get cut off for questions. #WonderChat
A2: Also I think it's super important not to make app smashing sound intimidating. It's really not. It's just like making a salad. You add in the ingredients you want to make your message powerful. Just try with your fav apps! #wonderchat#KidsCanTeachUs#LivBits
@Buncee and @Flipgrid are great tools to create ideas and thoughts generated by @Wonderopolis Q’s. Take those creations and pair with a relevant text for deeper understanding! #Wonderchat
You must check out and sign your Ss up for Camp @Wonderopolis this year! It's amazing. They could use @Buncee & @Flipgrid to share & extend the learning at "camp." 🏕️ #WonderChat
A3 So I haven’t used Wonderopolis yet, so on this I’m here to learn from the best! 😍 I signed up for Wonder Ground today so I’m super excited! #WonderChat
A3: I love @Buncee Wonder Wall templates. This could lead to research on @Wonderopolis. Then after creating a slide about their findings in @Buncee, Ss can record in @Flipgrid. #Wonderchat
A3 Have used them all for writing projects. Use @buncee for spectacular publishing, @FlipGrid for peer and teacher revision, and @wonderopolis for gathering ideas! #wonderchat
A3 Wonderopolis was a great go-to when my students wanted to go down fascinating rabbit holes. And they loved putting stories together in Buncee because they could use the pictures to drive their writing (and vice versa)!
#Wonderchat
A3 After using lots of winter weather related @Wonderopolis Wonders, we wrote a bit of wonder-inspired poetry and through it into a @Buncee. #WonderChat
#Wonderchat A3 I have used Buncee to create book trailers. Students record themselves and use the QR creator to make a QR code to place on the book! Have used Flipgrid for responses and reflections on so many lessons this year. Next I hope to use Wonderopolis
A3: Ss used @Wonderopolis for “Wonder Wednesday” on the morning show or bell work. @Flipgrid for Ss recording their thoughts and observations vs writing them down. @Buncee is great for Ss to create presentation style products! ALL ALLOW STUDENTS TO EXPRESS CREATIVITY! #WonderChat
Last question... question 5: Some of our students have experienced the extreme loss of agency in their personal lives. How can we help those students recognize all they can offer their own learning? #educacy
Amy, Grade 1/2 from MA, trying to navigate my first twitter chat AND unlock the secrets of app smashing! Thanks @Buncee! You always have the best inside scoop! #wonderchat
Amy, Grade 1/2 from MA, trying to navigate my first twitter chat AND unlock the secrets of app smashing! Thanks @Buncee! You always have the best inside scoop! #wonderchat
A3: Check out my new digital book club #longLIVbooks! I use @padlet to make connections w/ readers of A Wrinkle in Time. You'll see @Wonderopolis on there w/ the time travel wonder! I am looking forward to creating and linking more and more for the club! #wonderchat#LivBits
A4 I have had Ss use @edmodo and @Flipgrid to connect w/other classrooms, but can also create a @Buncee to share an "about me" and use these other tools to exchange w/other Ss #Wonderchat
#Wonderchat A3 I use Buncee as a presentational tool for my Ss research projects. In French class I use @Flipgrid as a formative assessment tool. To promote more reading I'm thinking you could #appsmash them with @EpicKidsBooks AND THEY HAVE FRENCH BOOKS! #happyteacher
A4 HS students love to create just as much as the littles. @Buncee gives them the creative tools to journal, create and share. @Flipgrid is amazing for a video journal and reflections #wonderchat
A4: I hear a lot of secondary teachers talk about students being shy or reluctant. #Appsmashing allows them to complete the task in a way that is comfortable for them, but also challenges their thinking and creativity. #WonderChat
A4 Lots of ideas for English - but would love to see @Buncee@Flipgrid used in History to re-tell, share thoughts, mock elections, etc - Need to start twisting some arms....... #Wonderchat
A4 Portfolios, research presentations, making math thinking visual, and more! See how @TinaJohnson215 used Buncee to transform her daily journaling with high school students https://t.co/XVQB4l7m7R#Wonderchat
A4: Students are naturally curious and @Wonderopolis is an awesome site to explore on. Students also love being creative, @buncee certainly helps with that! @Flipgrid pushes them in ways that is not always comfortable and gives a voice to all. #wonderchat
A4 at secondary level use them for any kind of authentic writing and publishing. The sky is the limit! If you can dream it, you can do it. I like to give options to students. Let them choose a tool to show what they know. #wonderchat
Thanks, Mike! Good connection tonight, because we're talking about finding inspiration tomorrow on the #2PencilChat. Wonderopolis is a GREAT source of inspiration! #Wonderchat
A4 Opposing viewpoints! Reading wonder topics, assigning pro/against arguments, documenting findings on @Buncee and presenting their sides with @Flipgrid#WonderChat
A4 Opposing viewpoints! Reading wonder topics, assigning pro/against arguments, documenting findings on @Buncee and presenting their sides with @Flipgrid#WonderChat
A4: @Flipgrid to collaborate or explain problem solving process, @Wonderopolis could spark writing or research topics, @Buncee a way to share their learning! #Wonderchat
A4: How come when kids get older we don't just let them play with simple apps? I don't think any of these apps are for little kids! Older kids can use them in really sophisticated ways! They just need access! Any content area can use them to show super deep thinking! #wonderchat
A4 Anything that gives students the ability to easily share their thinking and their ideas works at every level. That's the great thing about easy tools, they allow for a huge variety of assignment styles. #WonderChat
A4 #Appsmashing can be the jumpstart to creative writing. Take photo/embed it on @Buncee/ animate it/ Voila a quick way to be creative or create a #meme about your character. #WonderChat
Hey #WonderChat#LeadLAP and #edtechchat ... if you have anything to add to the #educacy conversation please do! We are always looking for strategies/ideas/reflections!
A4: Some specific examples: I can screen cast my math answers, I can match a wonder to a science topic and learn more vocab, I can invite my book club to share thinking and grow ideas! #wonderchat
I’m am in LOVE with this idea! And an interactive bulletin board with like a student made book trailer or summary of what they’re reading or learned! #wonderchat
A5: My first graders are familiar with multiple apps - so sometimes I will give them the choice of how they would like to complete an assignment of task. That’s when the real magic happens! #WonderChat
A5 Again, when the tools are powerful and easy to use, it's a lot easier for kids to go down rabbit holes, to explore, to dig, and to report back about what they find! #WonderChat
A5 @Wonderopolis is the perfect tool for sparking curiosity! Students can read through Wonders & dive deeper using Buncee to share their findings! Here’s an ex. from @anichols32 of students exploring curiosities w Buncee: https://t.co/rA5YMpjsGs#Wonderchat
#Wonderchat Even my camera shy middle school students are willing to record themselves on @Flipgrid once they learn they don't have to show their face on screen! I give them Daisy the Cow (my old Webkin stuffed animal!) and she gets to be on screen instead! It's a hoot!
A5: All of these tools offer open ended exploration for students. @Buncee has a great gallery with stickers, animations, and messages to help students design, and explore. #wonderchat
Lorie, the @Buncee / @Flipgrid app smash is a match made in heaven! Also, @BunceeBryan is the MAN! He'll help you with anything you need, but if you still have Q's, I'm here for you! 👊🏻😃 #WonderChat

A5: How can they not?! If just given the time Ss love to explore & play and I have know adults to get "lost" playing w @Buncee & @Flipgrid so peaking Ss interest is easy. Ss ❤️ @Wonderopolis too bc ❤️to search for their wonders. #Wonderchat
A5: These apps expose Ss to multiple viewpoints and can be a gateway tool to digging deep into the curriculum making learning relevant for Ss in today’s digital age!#WonderChat
Jumping in way late after bedtime with my boys. A5: Choice! There are so many topics on Wonderopolis! Then giving them choice as to how they share their thinking. @Flipgrid & @buncee are both great ways to show their thinking. Even have them post buncee to padlet! #WonderChat
A5 They get Ss consuming, creating, collaborating and reflecting. I can see these things leading to more questions which will lead to more wonders and what ifs. Could create a wonderful cycle! #WonderChat
A5: My 3rd uses @buncee to create their animal reports and they use @Wonderopolis to explore things about their animals. Since they are excited to learn the spark is already there. It would be cool to add in @Flipgrid connection with a professional! #wonderchat
Just like world reknowned Chessmaster, Author, and Performance Coach, Josh Waitzkin says, that's the key to mastering any subject or skill! #Wonderchat
#wonderchat a5 Hoping to use wonderopolis to help students explore some interesting topics then have students create awesome Buncee presentations and share reflections on Flipgrid . Planning genius hour / passion projects
A5 When the students have a variety of tools to use we get very creative and unique responses and they have the ability to dig deeper into their passions #Wonderchat
A5 These apps let students explore/present in a variety of formats. @buncee presentation beats a 3 page essay any day! Ss can't wait to create and show what they know. A @flipgrid debate for older students is an opportunity all to share their thoughts and comments. #wonderchat
And I don't want to hear this whole..."they're too young, they can't do it" argument. I should show you the video our four year old made yesterday! 😂 #WonderChat
A5 Again, when the tools are powerful and easy to use, it's a lot easier for kids to go down rabbit holes, to explore, to dig, and to report back about what they find! #WonderChat
I always add the icons! People will want to know how you created something and I think it's part of the process for citing. Plus my mum makes me 😬 #wonderchat#LivBits
A5 Something I’ve personally enjoyed observing is the students unique take on design and presentation skills. These tools help refine their final products. #wonderchat
A5 Sparking students interests using digital tools is an engaging endeavor. Give them opportunities to create their story in 6 words. Add in a wonder from @Wonderopolis, a short video from #Flipgrid and a place them on @Buncee platform. #wonderchat
A5 At our last faculty meeting we had to complete a task using @Flipgrid It was great to see some of my colleagues be so excited to learn a new tool and see their curiosity and ideas grow! It's the same for our students! I love giving them time to learn and play #WonderChat
Some of our Ss appear as though they were born with iPads/devices. Technology is intuitive with today's children. It's one of their first languages (or their sixth sense)...so to speak. #WonderChat
And I don't want to hear this whole..."they're too young, they can't do it" argument. I should show you the video our four year old made yesterday! 😂 #WonderChat
A5 So sorry I'm late! But in our 1st grade class I find that Ss often lead in their sense of wonder. This curiosity drives their creativity which is what makes these apps so amazing in our class #Wonderchat

And I don't want to hear this whole..."they're too young, they can't do it" argument. I should show you the video our four year old made yesterday! 😂 #WonderChat
It's not only our challenge. It is also our responsibility to help them navigate this amazing new world of technology (that continues to grow exponentially each day)...while experiencing so much fun learning in the process. #WonderChat
Thank you for a very enlightening and uplifting discussion! The positivity in the group is contagious! I needed it! See some of you at #TCEA#Wonderchat@Flipgrid@Wonderopolis
I am thinking about Olympic sport smashing. So instead of bowing at the end of their figure skating event the skaters have to land like a gymnast at the end of the ski jump. #Wonderchat
Of course you can Bonnie!! @buncee_meagan I'll be sending them over to you tomorrow! Feel free to text them, dm them, email them, call them in, smoke signals, anything lol! Looking forward to seeing the requests #wonderchat

A6 @Flipagram for quick tutorials on the stem activity extensions mentioned on @Wonderopolis articles posted on @padlet hyperlinked to a @Buncee and using @Flipgrid to create a class collage of student reactions or results of their product after doing the tutorial #wonderchat
Hey @Wonderopolis@Buncee@Flipgrid friends! I hope you will come back and JOIN ME for @TCRWP chat THIS Wednesday at 7:30 where I will tweet ALL THINGS tech and reading and writing w/ my buddy @clemenkat ❤️ I super hope some of you will join in! I need #MYPEOPLE#wonderchat
