Q0: Introduce yourself & share the values that you hope to establish during the first weeks of school. https://t.co/eWlOfsV7q9
Hi Everyone, I'm Andrew from BrainPOP - Yay for BTS!
A0 Matt from NJ, CBE of the month of June 2016! https://t.co/7NirtS99rF :p Hope to install that learning is & should be fun!
We're an edu platform-ANY1 can raise 4 ANY edu need PreK-12 :) (poppin' between this & / )
I am Robert also with BrainPOP... Back to school, ready or not! (I am sure you are :) )
happy BTS Matt! hope you had a good summer!
I always liked to establish culture around growth mindset, hard work, not "being smart"
Lauren from Hurricane Hermine in Jax, FL. I hope to estab leadership values! Do the right thing, when no one is looking!
Hi! Nili Bartley, tech integration, MA I want each S to know & feel that they r awesome & that using tech will give them a voice.
Hey there! Love "when no one is looking"
Hey there! I love that quote about real leaders!:) Hope you are doing well!
Hi guys! This is our first ! We're also hosting rn, & joining . Busy night.. excited to chat! :)
Hey ! Good to connect here! Miss you all!
I wonder how you could adapt some mechanics of the TV show, "The Voice" to establishing classroom culture?
Hey! I love thinking that tech gives Ss a voice! That's the truth!
First question coming up!
Q1: Which BrainPOP topics are most important to you and your students at the beginning of the year? Why? https://t.co/GHa4gm4qv9
Great idea to bring in popular culture for your culture. Familiar and fun.
telling 2nd/3rd graders it's way more about them/who they r than the tech as we're surrounded by brand new macs:)
Q0: Greetings from Philly. Values: yes; and; tell me more.
Laura Bernstein 5th Grade a science Port Orange, Fl.
Concept mapping is first! We will be using Make-A-Map all year, so Ss need a strong foundation!
A1; letting them know they matter and building an atmosphere of acceptance and caring.
Nice! We're piecing together our BYOD tech! Have to stay versatile!
wasn't actually thinking about "The Voice" at all but now has me thinking:)
A1 My goal is for Ss to feel comfortable to binge watch based in their interests, not to watch bc I'm grading the quiz (I don't!)
A1 - BrainPOP's Digital Citizenship unit is popular at the beginning of the year.
We watched that one this week as well! I love that it was the featured movie!
Are there specific BrainPOP topics that you use to help with acceptance and caring? https://t.co/vsawWa7AGT
A1; letting them know they matter and building an atmosphere of acceptance and caring.
Hey Carrie! Hope you're feeling well! :)
Is there a hero's journey video? Because the Ss are heroes on a journey!
We set goals after watching the video, and posted them on for their learning journals
A1 Digital Citizenship is huge-Also LOVE to give Ss choice & observe which topics/features THEY choose-I learn so much about them!
A2: During my training yesterday we saw that 'The Meaning of Beep' is now active! My 4th grade Ts love playing it!
Watch digital citizenship -- then PLAY Digital Compass from on GameUp!
excellent! https://t.co/RPBZoXY0hF
A2: During my training yesterday we saw that 'The Meaning of Beep' is now active! My 4th grade Ts love playing it!
SnapThought is my favorite! FINALLY a way to evaluate games!
The 4th grade Ts also decided to use Make-A-Map as a PD action step for encouraging students to compare and contrast
Can't wait to try! 3rd graders are now on from Day 1!:) They are so excited! https://t.co/9QFfVDu5VF
excellent! https://t.co/RPBZoXY0hF
A2: During my training yesterday we saw that 'The Meaning of Beep' is now active! My 4th grade Ts love playing it!
I'm always excited to see what Ts and Ss produce with Make-a-Map. Could be especially good for goal setting!
A2 Love using Time Zone then having Ss make their own, like this: https://t.co/miGWhrOs8P Also want to do with Meaning of Beep!
Hi ! Hope you're doing well! :)
A2 Make-A-Map (no comments please:) especially the templates. Ts were thrilled with these last year & I also want Ss playing more!
Love the activity sheets as well as make a map. Love that kids can have choice to show their learning.
Look out... here comes Question 3!
A3: Definitely . My Ss upload completed maps, game results, activities... anything to track their learning!
A3 Last yr, went from to this yr hope to use together thx to insight from & !
A3: enhances the engagement with BrainPOP... Push out BP resources when needed!
We've got to set up a , , collabo!
indeed, soon you'll see "challenges" which will provide even more choices for Ss to show learning.
A3: And how about good ol' fashioned pause and discussion? :)
Q0: Joanna Brown, Tech Facilitator, Rowan-Salisbury, Isenberg, NC
Still huge goal of mine is to look into for teachers K-3...I may be in touch!:)
Welcome nice to see ya here!
For sure! I became an ambassador this summer after NY, so I will be happy to help!
We are! School's cancelled 2moro... disappointed in the loss of momentum! We have so much 2 do, and so little time!
Theres now integration between BrainPOP and Google Classroom. . . lots of excitement about that! https://t.co/lUe3ogNW5U
SO AWESOME!!! Can't wait to check out!
Absolutely! I'd love to catch up!
crossing our fingers for you!
I have to check out this SeeSaw!
Q3: also loving being able to embed videos right into Canvas for kids to get right on task!
Preplanning was 8/3, and kids came back 8/10... We're in full swing at this point!
A4: Make-A-Map is crucial. The keywords/ images provide excellent scaffolding. Ss can get as complex as they want.
excellent, love to hear of Ts and Ss using Canvas LTI integration!
That's really awesome and exciting!
Templates help differentiate with MAM even more!
A4: Students can watch together, alone, in small groups, or as a whole class. They can also have choice to show understanding.
A4 I focused last yr mainly on helping Ts unfold S thinking w/in their concept maps, starting conversations w/Ss, next steps, etc.
I agree! Such a great way to get the Ss started!
Ts differentiate instruction by Ss interest and student ability. BrainPOP provides opportunities for both!
Isn't it crazy that Ss choose the more time consuming (read: engaging) when given the choice?
A4: Sortify is another great tool for seeing how Ss make connections. They can make the game as hard/easy as they need it to be!
Love that the differentiation isn't JUST on ability, but also taking into account Ss interest! https://t.co/3hnW9Io0iV
Ts differentiate instruction by Ss interest and student ability. BrainPOP provides opportunities for both!
& as a teacher, you can have them play as a class, in pairs or individually, significantly changing the task!
I often do play with them! Some of my Ss have even beaten my score! https://t.co/kTUG3PSSUL
& as a teacher, you can have them play as a class, in pairs or individually, significantly changing the task!
They will do that when they have something that engages them! does a nice job w. that! https://t.co/OzcQ6QBGba
Isn't it crazy that Ss choose the more time consuming (read: engaging) when given the choice?
A5: I often have Ss watch a video or play a game for HW to prepare for the next day's lesson!
The hardest thing with flipping is getting Ps to step back and let their kids struggle
A5: Have students watch a video & start mapping at home. Morning work = compare your map to a peers! https://t.co/MduDCHYhSB
Agreed! It's always obvious when a parent is too involved in homework.
and getting them to bring their struggles to your attention.
I'm trying to establish a where Ss learn from their mistakes. Especially on sortify games! https://t.co/gjnpg49mU2
Agreed! It's always obvious when a parent is too involved in homework.
A fine line between being a good or bad thing... why is always one of the extremes both ways?
Yes! I want 4th graders to find their voice! https://t.co/0juZ01fRcu
and getting them to bring their struggles to your attention.
A5: I have wanted to, but we have too many without access to devices at home.
A5 Used to give for hw a movie using -Ss would watch it, respond to it, & respond to each other-so much learning
Question 6 just around the corner!
So important! It's NOT all about the outcome! Must model for Ss that it's ok to make mistakes & learn! https://t.co/KD61H2HVXU
I'm trying to establish a where Ss learn from their mistakes. Especially on sortify games! https://t.co/gjnpg49mU2
Agreed! It's always obvious when a parent is too involved in homework.
The truth! I want flipping to put the ownership on the Ss... but they need support that is btwn that line https://t.co/B8wvJ7n30C
A fine line between being a good or bad thing... why is always one of the extremes both ways?
A6: it really comes down to your assignments. . . if you consistently encourage & model exploration Ss should follow :)
A6: When students are done with work and have extra time, I encourage them to "explore" their interests on BrainPop.
A6: I show vids, and point out assoc. vids. We start games, and then I encourage discovery.
That can be really tricky when wanting to assign digital work... :(
A6: Assign HW that requires some self direction on
A6: Make sure Ss know all's fair and open...if we cover something later, Ss can take lead.
I love when my Ss have already watched a vid. I make them the "resident expert."
I want to try Make-A-Map. We are 1:1 iPads. I wish we could do it on the iPad.
"Assignments" are coming to BrainPOP . . .but you didn't hear it from me :) haha
I am DYING for assignments! https://t.co/T5XIWAkKDB
"Assignments" are coming to BrainPOP . . .but you didn't hear it from me :) haha
Make-a-Map is mobile friendly :)
A6 2nd/3rd graders last yr blew me away w/their desire /determination 2 explore Ss made my job easy but modeling was KEY
Q6: I always tell Ss that they can watch a related movie & a related movie to a related movie but that's it lest a timewarp vortex
We're sharing ideas about BrainPOP right now on !
A6 Provide choices for students. Allow them some time to explore their passions
Hey Jerry! We've met at a few times! :)
A6: Today one of my teachers told the students use the atoms topic and just explore what was there. Pretty cool approach.
have to jump out put kids to bed...so nice to connect and LEARN from all of you!!!!
thanks for joining us. . . happy BTS!!!
Hi! I had great success using BrainPop with my Middle School students when it first came out.
indeed, open ended, and "safe" I saw the pic you posted too!
A5: Used the videos and quiz at home and used the results to guide instruction the next day in class.
You will be blown away with what has to offer now! https://t.co/Vsq8oIJ5l0
Hi! I had great success using BrainPop with my Middle School students when it first came out.
It's also a good idea to add student choice WHEREVER you can! They feel more ownership over their learning. https://t.co/ForM5kjrZy
A6 Provide choices for students. Allow them some time to explore their passions
A7: STEAM topics and Coding
A4: Quiz mixer is a game changer. But also using make-a-map which I've seen help Ss who struggle and sortify which pushes gifted
A7: Deinfitely STEM and coding.
Your avatar looks just like you! Hope you're doing well!
Aweosme job hosting tonight ! We'll have to "pop" back in again!
thanks, My students love BrainPOP and my colleagues too. They love the GamesUP and make a map
a7: BrainPOP mashups. . . What would a BrainPOP Mystery Skype look like?
thanks!! Everyone says that....I guess I'm good with making a bimoji 😀 I hope you are doing great too!
I'm waiting to be 's CBE of the month so that they will sketch me... LOL https://t.co/TveDzxOEHO
thanks!! Everyone says that....I guess I'm good with making a bimoji 😀 I hope you are doing great too!
A7: I'm interested in how Ts using BPOP deeply see same-school colleagues using BPOP and what parents know about tools/offerings.
Do you know if all of the features of Brainpop/Brainpop, Jr. will ever work on the iPad?
parent communication, STEM good ideas!
