Hello and welcome to what promises to be another great #ADEchat tonight! Robin Pence, Technology Professional Development Coordinator checking in from Las Vegas, NV - Class of 2017 - Best class ever!
We've got a warm up question coming your way! Start every reply with WU: and be certain to include #adechat at the end so we can all see your #powerradboomsauce thinking!
Shout out to all of my Maine peeps! We were having a geography discussion in class today and Maine came up-your beautiful state and yummy lobster! We had a great talk about it. #adechat
Hi everyone. It's Mike from the Dallas area. I teach App Dev, Engineering, and I'm an Instructional Coach. Running a little late, but glad to be here. #ADEchat
WU: I absolutely love creating comedy, whether improv or sketch or storytelling; bringing joy & laughter to others makes me feel amazing #adechat#rigorouswhimsy see also @TLMImprov
I am in constant awe of teachers who do this on the regular with students; I'm rarely prepared enough so I just resort to Funky McWinterbean & other silly monikers for our examples in class #adechat
WU: Been all over coding projects lately with scratch and https://t.co/xb1sBJ4m8K - Really just seeing students create amazing things in a second #ADEChat

OMG @amyburvall when you came to Fullerton, CA for Think. Create. Share. a few years ago, I was SO inspired by your creativity! Love your #remix mindset! #ADEchat
WU: I've been working on creating word "specimens" using F&Gs of picture books. I suppose in a digital world, these could be in a "cloud." But I like the 1.0, wooden feel of these and this idea to create on-the-spot poetry. #ADEchat
On tonight's chat, I'll be prompting us to think about ways students can use common digital applications to create in the service of #deeperlearning#adechat

Love the idea of working with cardboard. Surely, you are aware of Wayne White's work? And his documentary, BEAUTY IS EMBARRASSING. Worth looking up for cardboard genius. Caine's Arcade too. #adechat

I am kind obsessed with the laser cutter. #adechat I made these custom ornaments from my Mom's drawings using @adobe illustrator. @myakSTEM you can appreciate, right?
WU: CONNECTIONS! Among the class, outside the class, outside the school, across the globe. I love offering a glimpse at new perspectives, new ways of seeing and thinking about things. #ADEchat
I have graphics to prompt us along through some content areas & through some tools; here's the caveat: push. think about the 2nd thing you would make. think about the oddest or most nonsensical idea. think about the untried & unexplored #adechat
WU: I 💎💎💎 Creating Fun PL to inspire Educators, building with any materials I can get my hands on, bringing Apps to life with code, and creating opportunities for Ss to follow their passions and bring new and better innovations to life! #ADEchat

And as we get going, ask questions of one another; "ohhh tell me more" and "ohh #whatif" and "oh How might we . .. ?" let's see if we can achieve both rigor & whimsy, both critical thinking & creative expression in #edusymbiosis#adechat

Truth in Advertising. I saw Dan and I thought "I need to be in this thread." I am not ADE. Looked it up tonight and requested application. So, I am here to learn from all of you. Thank you for letting me luck tonight. This will be really good for me! #adechat
I just tried to make a leather bookmark with a quote about failure.. and I failed.. will try again! #ironic#adechat Failure is part of the creative process!

I love creating presentations highlighting lessons and activities from my teachers. They do such amazing things in the classroom, and I love sharing their learning with others that are not as comfortable with technology. I want to inspire them to take a risk #ADEChat
A1 #WhatIf students created podcast documentaries of mathematical concepts found in the wilds of their school? #WhatIf students designed songs that reflect geometric principles in their structure? #adechat#rigorouswhimsy#adechat
@WickedDecent A1 music is math. Tempo, sound-waves, etc. Also worth checking out Apple’s Music Memos app. Pretty incredible (and powerful) little (free) app. #adechat
A1. Garage band can be used like a stopwatch to measure the frequency at which a sound occurs. From this all kinds of math is possible. #LearnedThisFromAStudent#adechat
A1: ❤️GarageBand! In math my students have used it for learning fractions and my fav for pi day! We assign numbers notes and play the first 15 digits of Pi! #adechat
Absolutely! Now how might we take that to the next level? how might we produce beats on GarageBand that demonstrate a mathematical concept in action? properties? rules? #adechat
A1: Having used backbeat beds from the guys at Flocabulary, I note that a student's reading can be modified with a change in musical beds/rythyms. Garage Band could provide these. Lots of possibilities here. Wow. This is fun. #adechat
Oh keep going Julie! Like what? What sort of math might you do and how might you experiment with the frequency? Also #whatsthefrequencykenneth? #adechat
Q1-Have student create a sound or sounds that reflect their process OR watch a partner solve a problem and make sounds or a song to reflect that. Could be like Morris code. #adechat
Our future teachers had to garage band in some way to add to student learning - and include it in a multi-touch book. There are some cool ideas for next semester #adechat
How so? What might be one way that goes beyond just recording & sharing your ideas in words? What does GarageBand offer us that math folks can use for creating? #adechat
Measure the time it takes a golf ball to hit the floor between bounces with #GarageBand, figure out how high it goes with #SloMoFilming and you can calculate #gravity#ADEchat
YEASSSSSSSS! Loving this! How might we soundtrack the process of our partner solving a math problem? What songs & why? Create an original score! (Lesson plans for similar are in @IntentionBook btw) #adechat
Q1-Have student create a sound or sounds that reflect their process OR watch a partner solve a problem and make sounds or a song to reflect that. Could be like Morris code. #adechat
Yes. Just like this. Or go "analog." I found a wind-up Humpty Dumpty figurine, wound it up and had it play while I reading the picture book, AFTER THE FALL. It's about finding the right bed and the right timing. #adechat
WU: Creating on my own and with my kiddos! Art teacher life <3 My personal favorites? Glassblowing, graphic design, photography, painting, and quilling! This is a painting I made this spring <3 #adechat
A1 Since math is about making connections... use Garage Band to connect music to concepts... Thinking geometric shapes and the more sides, the faster the beat. #ADEchat
Cool. Let's go deeper: how might we add a creative constraint to that diet? how might we challenge students to think differently about journaling your exercise & diet via the medium of Pages? #adechat

or remix a local restaurant's menu and invite the owners/GMs to come view the new student created menus! Great ways to connect with your community! #ADEchat
#whatif students had to also create a color code for the various food groups, name each color a unique name that must demonstrate what they know about that food group, and use that color to maintain their chart? #adechat
A2: Using pages as a means of journaling what we do in the physical part of the course. For me, the reflection on what I've done in the gym is an important piece. Help students capture the narrative over the span of a year of activity and thoughtfulness in re: health. #adechat
A2 create customizable learning plans based on the consumer. What and how much exercise is right for you? What nutrition plan would best support your goals? #ADEchat
A2 - Visual Budgets for healthy lifestyles give students salary which they must spend by copying web images and prices into Pages that support a healthy & balanced life. #ADEChat
#whatif after creating that color code -- aka palette -- they then used those colors to create a diet & exercise poster, making images sized for mobile, desktop & print versions so always accessible? #adechat
Use #Pages to create posters about different health-related issues or promoting fitness! They have to learn the content in order to use it to teach others! This could be especially fun if they made it for younger students and then shared! :) #ADEchat

A2: Certainly, using Pages could invite consideration of multi genre writing samples from students in Health and PE. Grocery Lists. Nutrition Tables. Micro Narratives/Blogs. Progress Charting. Goal Setting. #adechat
Q2: create food charts w/food pics in #pages create exercise charts for certain purposes w/ symbols, utilize the activities w/symbols for the best exercises for that sport #adechat
or remix a local restaurant's menu and invite the owners/GMs to come view the new student created menus! Great ways to connect with your community! #ADEchat
By blending visual and audio with the narrative. Students begin in something that looks like traditional writing and move toward hyper text that looks documentary-ISH? #adechat Thanks for the push, Dan. This is really cool. I'll think some more on this.
thanks! We're big on community connections in #FSDlearns and often partner with local companies. our students create marketing content for local small businesses...always a cool project! invite the outside IN and then let the students show the adults how to get it done! #ADEchat
A2 Write stories about health! Encouraging Ss to be healthy and talking about different illnesses. Super helpful to have kid-friendly books to help kids understand illnesses that affect their loved ones <3 Then load them into iBooks Author to share with the world! #ADEchat
I LOVE of making for another user -- it challenges them to think about intention of their images #whatif they could only use their own photos? #whatif they had to create a color palette for the poster & name each color a unique title that shows understanding? #adechat#dtk12chat

Side Bar: Our district is moving toward 1:1. I teach English 11 and AP Eng Lang and Comp. What I like most about #adechat tonight is pushing on what I feel are my best 1.0 ideas and thinking about what they look like in 2.0 modality. It's interesting. Thanks, everyone!
Connecting w the community makes learning real and builds up important skills - communication, collaboration, etc... in addition to content knowledge. Such a great project! #ADEchat
Get out of my brain! I talked about that TODAY! I'm planning for a district PL and want to incorporate something like that for the educators to capture their experiences! #ADEchat
A3: I have to think that Keynote would be good for multimodal stage presentation. Like Bonnie & Clyde with integration of stock images. Laramie Project with newspaper clips and interviews. Transitions become like traditional curtain calls. #adechat
A3: use magic move to create an animated video that plays in conjunction with the band concert! #adechat@AHSNERDLAB did something similar last year with @bloxelsbuilder and @Procreate It was AMAZING!
A3 #whatif Ss used keynote to create an interactive plan to outline the tech of an upcoming theatre production? Could be a good way to learn the boards for rookies, too. #ADEchat
If you can tell me where I can get a cronut that can compare to those at Epcot I will owe you big time. Apparently they aren't a thing here in NTX. #ADEchat

Using shapes to create custom graphics in a kid-friendly app, creating animations , using the new All About Me template to create Famous Artist profiles, having Ss reflect on their work, buiding portfolios #ArtTeacher#ADEchat

you could use magic moves to highlight facts or aspects of the images. Makes a great literacy focus by focusing on pieces of a newspaper article - helping their own writing be more focused #ADEchat
A3: By using the collaborate feature the actors (students) can only communicate their lines and actions by creating slides. The others will see them instantaneously and respond. Use words or symbols! #ADEchat

A4- Mockumentaries are always a hit :) Epic Rap Battles too! Anything on the UN Sustainable Development Goals inspires students’ best efforts. These are all powerful uses of IMovie in Language Arts class. #ADEChat
A2: Envision Ss bringing in images of different types of PE activities & looking at angle of shots, analyze form & stance - could tie in with math, or could create newsletter about activities different classes participating in, record all activity over period of time. #adechat
Q4-music video over book, book trailers, book to movie, book advertisement, summarize a unit/learning, diary, point of view of character, photo essay, theme driven There are just so many ways. 😉#ADEchat
Brilliant! We’re building a recording studio at the school. Could green screen them into a scene from the book and then use garageband the recording to sound like characters #ADEchat
And while we are thinking #creatively about Keynote - I like using it as a tool to make syllabi for all classes. Credit for that idea goes to @ckklynen. #ADEchat
We are coming up on the end of the road my friends and this has been fantastic! So many great ideas! Be sure to follow & amplify the other members of this community! as well as new friends visiting for the first time #adechat
Love that idea! Awesome to have them consider color schemes! They could even incorporate other elements/principles of art like emphasis, contrast, repetition and unity! Shapes, color, line, space.....it all fits together with this project! :) #ADEchat

A3: Keynote has an incredibly simple and effective way of constructing visual concepts that are full of motion and icons. Like any slideshow software, it can be used to create a template that will make it a tool to rapidly produce a product. #adechat
Storytelling.. each student adds one full slide image, then randomize order and create story with those images. Then randomize and do it again! #ADEchat
I used iMovie trailers to have Ss show understanding of the theme of a story. They used the words to state the theme & the images as support for their idea. #adechat
Gosh, endless possibilities mentioned. I think it's critical we recognize that video doesn't "replace writing," it makes the process more beautiful, engaging, alive, & RELEVANT! Careful media consumption & content creation must be taught. #ADEChat
