#ukedchat A1 I do see the traditional excitement in #students, understandable of course, but I think the pace of our current unit is keeping them consistent in their behavior.
A1 Nope - well it hasn't got terrible but non-uniform days, Christmas feeling, teachers doing 'fun' activities all contributes to a little more liveliness... #ukedchat
In one school where I worked, there was a distinct increase in misbehaviour, lateness to lessons, lack of work, complaining about exams - the kids weren't much better either... #ukedchat
A1 Tricky when so much is going on, but while working yes, tandards should be maintained. But fun should be had once we move towards more Christmasy things. Gotta love primary! #UKEdChat
Cold, wet conditions so not able to run around & let off steam. End of term assessments Y11 mocks. My own tired persona (try to be fair, but am Only Human!) A2 #UKedchat
My very first interview for a senior leadership position taught me some very significant lessons about devising a winning school vision...

Xmassy shenanigans can result in chaos. My Y9s doing war poetry this week were clearly not feeling it. They persevered, but it wasn't cheerful a juxtaposition to how they want to feel! #UKedchat
Ours really struggle with this lack of routine at Christmas. Behaviour slips sometimes but is more a sensory meltdown as a response to lack of structure #Ukedchat
A3 It's difficult when other classes are showing films however relevant. Find a few YouTube or TED talks on your subject then get someone to repeat talk. #UKEdchat
A4 - try to be consistent but do get tired. I try to acknowledge when I'm tired & do explain marking delays etc. Think students realise we are trying our best if we are honest #ukedchat A4

I know just what you mean. I try to make a conscious effort to give lots of praise when everyone’s tired. After all, the children are tired too #ukedchat

I sometimes think I am quicker to give consequences and less likely to give praise and an trying hard to combat that this term! Also trying to smile more as I just look tired and weary some days! 🙈

Ooh it’s like I anticipated that one! I think it’s important to make sure the good gets noticed - it gets both you and Ss down if you are only negative. At this time of year especially the praise can boost them for another good lesson & creates positive cycle of behav #ukedchat

A4: yes! My patience is so much thinner and I hugely increase in negative, closed body language. It’s hard to combat but I try to catch myself! #UKEdChat

#UKEdChat A3: Themed curriculum study. Successful examples have included an English unit on 'A Christmas Carol', Christmas Coordinates in Maths, Climate Change linked to the Polar regions in Geography, letter writing (Santa) and Citizenship (family dynamics/unity at Christmas 🎄

I’m not sure that seeking praise is inherently bad if they go about it with the correct behaviours for learning. It just requires teacher skill in ability to praise genuinely exceptional behaviour/work and only acknowledge expectations met #ukedchat

A6 no excuses ignores the actual reasons behind the behaviour. Part of a simplistic carrot and stick approach...unfortunately we are not simple creatures! #ukedchat

Not sure this is something you can say outright, each child and circumstance is different. But I think there needs to be some non-negotiables that a school sticks by to the ensure Ss are ready for leaning Eg equipment (though for some this could mean providing it) #ukedchat

#UKEdChat To get recognition is a human hunger. When we give +ve recognition we tend to get more of the behaviours that warrant it. Conversely - more neg recognition we give the more of those behaviours we get.

#UKEdChat A6: IMO, very limited positive impact. In addition to the flaws of any 'one-size-fits-all' approach, it's always important to consider that there's usually underlying reasons for behaviour (no matter how big/small)
A2 Being indoors due to bad weather at playtime has an impact. This can be helped by playing games with chn and letting them know what's going to happen (e.g. indoor games due to icy conditions) #UKEdChat
A4 I have already told my class everyone is feeling tired at the end of term, they are and adults are! When dealing with any issues I remember that #UKEdChat

Stay calm. Ensure students know it is the behaviour you don’t like, as often it can seem personal if said student is often in trouble. Follow up later if possible when situation less ‘fresh’ and encourage mature reflection. #ukedchat

A5 I think chn who are always helpful and do the right thing need praise to acknowledge that they make sensible choices. One parent told me his son loves it when he is praised, "out of all the class she notices when I'm doing well!" #UKEdChat

A6 The behaviour policy we have acknowledges individual differences. I think chn can see and understand why you may treat chn differently, they have a great aptitude for empathy #UKEdChat

#UKEdChat A7: Big picture - Establishing respectful dynamics within classroom and rapport with pupils. Implementing positive/trusting culture is vital as a pre-emptive behaviour management tool.
Consistent and clear rewards & sanctions also effective for low-high level issues.
So so many. Most of my fellow #tweachers and my department - we’ve had a long, hard term, with lots of mocks etc. But we all pulled together and made it, with lots of smiles along the way. #ukedchat

A8. I’m going to opt out of that one. There’s so many fantastic teachers making a big difference every day for our children that I can’t possibly choose just one. Well done to all teachers and TAs #ukedchat
