#Edchat is a hashtag, a movement—it is a weekly organized Twitter discussion of educators and people interested in education that meet virtually from all over the world. #Edchat serves as a conversation thread on Twitter and is also used for organized weekly discussions.

https://t.co/dgZphOWYKh ... I talk to them about synapses in the brain and how they form reform based on what we think and do. I don’t hand them articles bc we don’t have time when I’m guest teaching, but wouldn’t it be cool to really hit that topic in a meaningful way #EdChat

The entire conversation starts and ends with the teachers — the focus is always on what the teacher is doing in his/her classroom and the coach is merely there to encourage that conversation. https://t.co/sCmnHaxwP2#education#edchat
Google Classroom has changed my management strategy! My classroom has gone paperless, and sharing information with students has never been easier. #edchat

I did it at the beginning of the semester. I had the kids either download the app or bookmark the website on their phones. Luckily, our district already made accounts for everyone. #edchat
Statewide teacher walkouts ... interesting ... watching Kentucky walk after state goes after pension ... Florida took 3% from teachers a few years back ... state used to cover 6%, but then decided to make teachers pay half ... we complained ... #edchat
Where I stand with teachers who walk out, I fear that public opinion is of spoiled people who are asking for too much. This simple isn't the case, world. Teachers deserve to be treated fairly and we can't negotiate for our jobs like the private sector. #edchat
i think we are on the cusp of something bigger, but it only truly matters if we make a change at the ballot box ... if Ed is not a priority there then it is all for naught #edchat
Kevin here a Teaching Principal with Irelands first and only School STEAM Room.I think the recent walk outs will pay dividens in the long run.Sometimes wed must take a stand #edchat
A big shoutout to the @ChalkbeatTN team for their breakneck coverage of the #TNReady drama this week. Here’s a special report email they just put our with their coverage from today: https://t.co/tZAyc6EpDk#educhat
It saddens me to think that @Ron_Martiello and I have had to put #AMPclass a little towards the back burner bc of State Assess. Can’t wait to get back to what truly matters and the kids too. #edchat how have State Tests ruined your Ss learning and Environment?#Mathchat#PAedchat
I feel it’s a necessary catalyst for many overdue cultural shifts that need to take place in the world of education. The challenge is that I find it hard to justify walking out of my class without violating my own principles. #edchat

Hey Shawn. I think the recent walkouts are a much needed step that had to be taken in order for more education funding and teacher raises. I believe that it will pay out big time in the near future and hopefully reformation of our education system will take place. #edchat
I try to be an optimistic person who utilises hope and positivity every day but my guess is no real change will happen for our profession until teaching is valued by political leaders. #edchat
I don’t think so. The concern is, unlike many other strikes or protests, this walkout affects public educational system and obviously impacts our students. Currently between that rock and that hard place... #edchat
$KNM recently commenced trials in Singapore which has generated interest from other #SpecialNeeds schools there. KNM anticipates the first conversion to sales in the current quarter and views the Singapore market as an entry to other regional locations

I agree. I think it really depends on the administration. In a perfect world one would hope that what they are fighting for is not seen as something that needs to be “reprimanded”. #edchat
An interesting teaching prompt for explaining written and visual puns. I think our HS students would be well prepared to examine this for voice and perspective. #edchat
Edchat 4/17/2018. To give teachers higher pay, schools need to budget more wisely or taxes need to rise. It’s a tricky situation. Does anyone think the government should have a larger hand in public school budgets or no? #edchat
I completely understand this. I want to do what’s best for myself and other teachers, but I also want to do what’s best for my kids. When torn between the two, I’ll do what’s best for my kids. #edchat

... with that, myself, my colleagues, and my peers nationwide deserve to be treated with respect, and to be compensated for the work they do, or at the very least, not be overworked #edchat

Such a good idea. I think that starting with something in neuropsychology is actually a really strong sell for my grades 11 and 12 senior students. Will have to look at the book you’ve sent a link to! #edchat

I probably should explain why I deleted my first tweet. I’m not a US teacher so suddenly felt I shouldn’t impose my thoughts on another country’s problems! Good luck to the striking teachers!
#edchat
Hi Jack! I'm glad to see an optimistic opinion of effects of the walkouts. Do you think this will be nationwide or more local pockets of change? #Edchat
Why should they ... Education is not a real priority for for the voters ... Abortion ... Taxes ... 2nd Amendment ... Equal Rights ... Equal Pay ... #edchat what will teachers do ... Striking in Florida is illegal

Suburban GA. People think GA is progressive. I tell them, "ATLANTA is progressive, but go outside of I-285, and it's VERY conservative--particularly the northern suburbs, where I live." #Edchat
Any movement starts out slow...I think we will be seeing more and more of this type of thing across the nation. I believe in the coming years it will become more widespread..hopefully #edchat
100% "The best way to boost students’ reading comprehension is to expand their knowledge and vocabulary by teaching them history, science, literature, and the arts." https://t.co/MasyoMmAuW#edchat
In fact many places education is tied to those other issues..especially taxes. Tax discussions are 4 letter word talks and no one wants to pay more money...so education cuts happen...#edchat
I'm going to say the thing that probably doesn't apply to those willing to spend an hour (or more) chatting on twitter about edu: many Ts are in it for their families, ie summer vacation, same holidays as their kids.... /1 #Edchat
"A Case for Finger Counting
New research suggests that young children may make gains in math by counting with their fingers."
What if you still have to do this in adulthood? 😳Asking for a friend of course.

Their husbands are the breadwinners. Or, their husbands are self-employed so they have healthcare. Not really in it for Ss, in it for their families. 2/2 #Edchat
I hope it does become widespread, these topics need to be heard. If we keep insisting, conversation will start and we can hopefully progress from there. #edchat
Most of the people tossing around 6 figure teacher salaries don't understand that would require a MASSIVE tax hike ... a jump in salary like that would cost my district $450,000,000 #edchat
The walkouts are creating more awareness #edchat now we need to see what awareness brings ... Hopefully a change at ballot boxes then funding and respect
Revisions and reassessments are key in my class. I build instructional videos to replace my lectures. This allows students to control own pace and facilitates mastery-based grading. Students engage in a daily reflection on how they are improving as self-directed learners #edchat
That budget is growing ... the military industrial complex has fair more effective lobbyist than the teachers ... and very few politician will go on record stating they want to cut the military budget ... #edchat

I'm sure we've all lived through 8 years of both parties. I've lived in blue states and I've lived in red. Nobody is happy with Ed funding anywhere. I'm not sure what "change" is available at the ballot box. #edchat
I'm going to say another thing that isn't popular: here in my district, T pay isn't bad. I would have no reason to strike over pay. I have PLENTY of other reasons, though. #Edchat
#edchat I actually have a program called "Math-a-cognition." Every couple of weeks, Ss take time to respond to a prompt suggesting reflection on process, emotions, goals, growth, etc. Google-doc based between me and S. I respond on Doc to keep the conversation going privately.

I agree. I’ve come to looking at it as a cultural shift, not a partisan issue, that shift being one towards our nation understanding the value of education #EdChat
David, that is correct! I chose teaching as my life path! Nothing can stop me from going forward! I will fail/fall but I'll get up, dust off.....continue! I control what I control! #edchat

I don't think it will do much. If you want change I think maybe boycotting administrative requirements would be better. Don't take away from classroom time. #edchat
