First question coming up... #reading #LDchat
  • UnderstoodOrg Sep 26 @ 12:05 PM EDT
Q1. What are the benefits of #reading to your child, and how might it help motivate her to read on her own? #LDchat
  • StoryShares Sep 26 @ 12:07 PM EDT
A1: When you are reading to your child, she is beginning to learn how to make meaning from text, and building positive associations around reading. She can use that foundation to bridge to the task of independent reading. #ldchat
  • krysthompkins11 Sep 26 @ 12:07 PM EDT
When children are read to, the learn language quicker, which aids in comprehension. #ldchat
  • lyd_peters Sep 26 @ 12:07 PM EDT
A1 Reading with a child attaches fond memories to reading, especially if a child has trouble reading on their own, they still have something to smile about when they think of reading. #ldchat
  • UnderstoodOrg Sep 26 @ 12:08 PM EDT
#Reading to your child helps her develop language skills on many levels. #LDchat https://t.co/PXurGGKrkx
  • MegTowner Sep 26 @ 12:08 PM EDT
A1) I have fond memories of my parents reading to me. It helped build a bond and open a world of imagination, one I later couldn't wait to dig into when I had time on my own. #LDChat
  • krysthompkins11 Sep 26 @ 12:09 PM EDT
When teachers or parents make reading exciting, students tend to want to try it for themselves! #ldchat

A1: Reading helps children to develop their imaginations, and explore people, places, and things outside of their own experiences #ldchat

A1: The support we provide when reading to children allows them to feel relaxed in the process. They're not alone. They can focus more deeply on the content, which, when relevant to their ages/interests, is ultimately what will engage them & inspire independent reading. #LDchat

  • UnderstoodOrg Sep 26 @ 12:12 PM EDT
Q2. Why are graphic novels and book series great options to help motivate a struggling reader? #reading #LDchat
  • StoryShares Sep 26 @ 12:13 PM EDT
