#TOSAChat is a chat on Twitter every Monday night at 8pm PST for TOSAs (teachers on special assignment), including all edtech and instructional coaches.
The coaches in my district were all trained in Cognitive Coaching. I love the planning conversation that takes place prior to teaching a lesson. It helps to co-plan, as well. #TOSAchat
A1 #tosachat keep a regular reflection journal of your work, including how you are feeling and how the suggestions go. Refer back to the journal to guide work going forward
Our first rep is our first few times working with a T, then fostering and building relationship, capacity, and pedagogy like we build a strong muscle #tosachat
Offering incentives like extra conference swag has been an in lately. Came up on a few @edtechteam Rocketbooks to give to teachers who planned some co-teaching with me. #tosachat

It's not a question, but: Tell me more about that... #tosachat
And then I also use "what are some ways" or "what are some ideas" so there's never one right answer and it opens up the conversation to many possible directions.
Valid response. I like that phrase too. Sometimes my questioning opens w/how's the family? Did you have a nice weekend? Stuff like that, lower the stress, laugh and then dig in. #tosachat
A2: I think it depends on the situation. Some Ts like a direct questions others may like an indirect offer. I try to read the situation to guide my questions #tosachat
A2: My questions usually center on whether or not the 4 Cs are being addressed. This helps keep focus on students and helps alleviate perceived pressure on what teacher should do. #tosachat
Qs are a powerful tool in our #tosachat tool belt, choosing the right tool for the right job is the difference between unlocking learning or confounded exhaustion #tosachat
a3 A recent learning experience had a group of Ts observing another T and seeing our learning goal was possible was a powerful learning moment in a way I couldn't give them. On other hand, planning, co-teaching, and reflection are bread and butter for Ts growth #tosachat
A3: Before I observe anyone I have to establish a trusting relationship with them. Following any observation, I always provide immediate, constructive feedback in the form of value/value potential statements and powerful questions #TOSAchat
In one day, it literally changed the conversations we were having, it is powerful. So part of this is empowering and harnessing those around us to get #bettertogether#tosachat
A3: I always try to think about what helps me to feel comfortable being observed and do that. And a teacher first, always, mentality doesn’t hurt. #tosachat
Powerful words Ari! Yes and Jody I tried similar thing last year, I was only one at end of year, it wasn't picked up, but we weren't ready for it, we were in a different place #tosachat
A4: I try to attend PLCs as often as I can. When I walk through the building I stop and have short conversations to check in with as many of my Ts as possible. #TOSAchat
A4: I mentor a couple teachers, I also teach my own class. I’ve tried to foster an open door policy with them and always try to help when able. If I can’t, they know I’ll circle back around. We also email throughoutday. #tosachat
A4: Regular emails and messages via Google Hangouts. I like to tell admin what they've worked on with me so admin can see and give positive feedback. #tosachat
A4: For those I can't see regularly, I send my feedback via emails that include guiding questions to encourage them to think, reflect, and discuss new ideas with me. A Ts willingness to participate is based on the relatinsip I've built with them #TOSAchat
Yes, and it's about people, like I was excited about the #observeme movement, thought everyone would be, but we are all on different journeys with different learnings, experiences and we like to "get paid" differently. We need to tap into what makes Ts we serve #tosachat

A1: Know your audience. Gauge their needs by using surveys, F2F communication, level of ability/comfort of part to whole, research previous history with strategy implementation (what's the school culture?) #tosachat

Also other side, is to continuing to push for that, you have to be #RELENTLESS in that pursuit, just make sure it aligns with your #MyWhy, that's my learnings from the past few years #tosachat
A5: Teach them the value of good data. If they see why it’s important they will be more likely to do/use it. Inspire them with S growth and encourage them to rethink lessons and teaching practices where Ss are struggling. #TOSAChat
Sorry David, I don't know why it just seemed appropriate and now I'm regretting my people know of the way of the #Hoff Anyway, glad to see you and I hope you're well. #tosachat

A5: Teach them how to take data, how to draw meaning from it, and what to do with it. Make it personal. Inspire them with S growth and encourage them to rethink lessons and teaching practices where Ss are struggling. #TOSAChat
Sure sure, it's not that end, I guess I'm just curious how to keep others from their incorrect perspectives...if that makes sense. Example, you say, "Hey P, your T __ did an great thing __" The P then mentions it to T (even with your warning) and starts to wonder #tosachat
AT: I like to show them sources of data other than traditional sources. I emphasize various forms of formative assessment as well as demographics. #tosachat
A6: I usually push Twitter first. If resistant, I always mention how what I'm showing them came from my Twitter peeps. Preach the importance of #growthmindset by standing on the shoulders of giants. #tosachat
I think about all the people I wouldn't have met if I didn't have a Twitter and I realized that teaching would be SO lonely w/out it. I'd only have like, 1 person to talk to about pedagogy.
A wonder #tosachat thanks Ari for leading us through a great conversation. We grow to be the next best version of ourselves for our Ts and Ss. Thank you all for helping us get #bettertogether#tosachat
A5: That's a hard one for me to answer. I'm not in that position too often. I will saying having just finished chairing WASC last year that knowing data and backing it up w/ concrete evidence is crucial. #tosachat
