ShiftinEdu is a summit for forward thinkers on November 9 and 10, 2017 in Miami. We gather thought leaders and educators from all over the world and empower them to be influencers in their own communities. The focus of the summit is to drive innovation in education through leveraging new methodologies and technologies in learning.
I'm Kristin Ziemke from #Chicago, resident teacher and learning innovation specialist. I'm so happy to be kicking off the school year with you all! #shiftinedu
A1: As Educators we can model curiosity by exploring questions together, showing that one is never too old to learn something new. #shiftinedu#digitalcuriosity
A1 Curiosity is something that, in traditional settings, dwindles as Ss grow older. However, that is not a natural occurence and something we should be fighting against in schools. #embracecuriosity#shiftinedu
A1 I want my students to know that I'm still learning, still seeking and finding topics that interest me everyday. Current events can be an easy way to model. #ShiftinEDU
A1 - Sometimes I start a lesson with a look at todayâs news (not always a fun read) and try to ask questions as to why this is happening in the world etc. Building a curious mind #ShiftinEDU
I also think being confident enough to be vulnerable, to be wrong, and to admit your ignorance or where your skills arenât good enough is a good way to show SS that you are a lifelong learner #shiftinedu
A2: Curiosity is easily satisfied by the ability to access information. The instant feedback on any topic, be it an article, video, image, or gif, opens a world for all learners then and there. Connecting with experts is another! #shiftinedu#digitalcuriosity
A2. Access. Our students now have more information about nearly everything...previously, kids curiosities were limited by their reading level and books in the library. Now they can seek more information in a variety of mediums. #shiftinedu
A1 - Iâm naturally curious. I also get bored easily. So spontaneity in the classroom and the variation in facilitating PBL and other forms of student lead learning is just more fun. Go home smiling more that way. #shiftinedu
A1 Curiosity is the beginning of all learning! If we donât wonder or have some level of interest or curiosity in a topic, we wonât attend to our experiences with it or assimilate those new experiences into our existing ideas. #ShiftinEDU
A2 For me, I truly enjoy finding a YouTube video on a topic I want to learn about... what happens next is an endless stream of related videos. Often, this is a great learning experience! #shiftinedu

A2 Being able to connect with what is going on in the world and what matters to your heart is something we should model for our Ss. I am thinking of @Newsela eg. Different reading levels on the same subject. What conversation you can have! #shiftinedu#digitalcuriosity
That is more because freedom to learn is reduced the older you get until college. Then colleges want you to explore options when you donât have that skill set #ShiftinEDU
A2: It takes more than just access to information. Access is passive. It takes engaging with it and doing something. Even if itâs just checking back in to see what you might have missed. #shiftinedu
A2 When we discuss #digitalcuriosity I think it allows all of us to hear the stories of others. And when we hear others' stories it helps us understand. Digital yields, connection; connection is a thread that carries us. #shiftinedu
Q2 There is just more to generate curiosity! Interesting things pop up all the time and Ss can pursue them more easily. Even with my second graders, I often respond to our-there questions with âwow, interesting! I donât really know. Maybe you could look that up!â #ShiftinEDU
A2. Ss no longer have to take a Ts answer as gospel, they are empowered to seek alternatives. Curiosity can now be fed by seeking out answers instantly. #shiftinedu
A2 The digital age gives students more tool options to explore curiousity. Information can also come in many forms. Where most information used to only come in box text, students can now watch info in multiple forms. Like videos #ShiftinEDU

A3 I use #creativitysmacktalk to hook students into learning. Oh my build is going to be soooo much better than yours. All of a sudden kids are including their learning process in the smack #ShiftinEDU
Wow! I never thought to get one for school. My students were just talking about how almost all of them have multiple Alexas in their homes! And I donât have even one! đŚ #ShiftinEDU
A3: From a basic level, I love letting students consume, deconstruct, synthesize, create and share. Usually itâs cross platform and involves a camera at some point. Kids do that naturally when they play. So the what isnât as important to me as the how. #shiftinedu
A4. That requires a shift in thinking. Ts feel bogged down by demands of standards/curriculum, etc. Ts need to understand not everything worthwhile can be measured for data. Thus, replace something that is not valuable w/ allowing Ss to explore their own interests. #shiftinedu
Make it be part of how you facilitate learning. Curiosity isnât necessarily like circle time or a center, though you might have to restructure some of your lessons. #shiftinedu
R3 Amber Harper -Google Trainer/EdTech Consultant/Teacher Coach from Indiana. âşď¸Just stumbled on this #shiftinedu chat! I love tools that help Ss create and share their learning THEIR way: @GoogleForEdu tools and @Seesaw for the win!! đđź
A4 Soft start! This is one of the best changes Iâve ever made in my teaching. I ditched bell work about five years ago and now time for things like curiosity and creativity is built into every day. #ShiftinEDU
