#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
Hey everyone - I’m Debbie, an instructional tech coach, from a middle school somewhere in Virginia :o) How about it @Campbell_ITC - you joining #FCPSlearn tonight?
Hey. I am Tracey from Kansas. I teach K-5 at a Therapeutic Learning Program. I just stumbled across #fcpslearn on my feed just now and thought I’d join.
A1: To expect the unexpected when facing challenge. It's so easy to give up before trying, but I learned very quickly that I am capable of more than I gave myself credit for. #fcpslearn
A1: I learned that I am good at my job. I had a very low level of confidence last year, but going to conferences and having mentors like @HistoryislifeDC@ToddRisser and @ERobbPrincipal helped show me that I am capable as a teacher! #fcpslearn
A1-I learned that after a decade I STILL am still learning and there is still room to grow as an educator. I just have to be willing to get out of my own way and try new things. I also learned that I needed to adopt a growth mindset about my teaching. #fcpslearn
A1: How to reflect on teaching practices. This allowed me to determine if what I was doing was effective or not, if my Ss were successful or not, if my Ts were better for what I shared. It allowed me to readjust & without giving up. If I needed to, I asked for help. #fcpslearn
A1: I learned...I can do it, I’m stronger than I give myself credit for, and I should never give up...because my Ss benefit from this positive, growth mindset. #fcpslearn
A2: PBAs. I was hesitant to doing big projects because my experience with them as a student was "make a poster" or "make a powerpoint." Going and learning about cool, innovative PBAs inspired me that now I am addicted!! #fcpslearn@ERobbPrincipal@dbiggs9341@HistoryislifeDC
A2: I tried a lot of reflections through blogging - at first it was not great, but I learned how to ask different questions to get the Ss to “tell me more” #fcpslearn
A2: This year I completely changed my practice. I haven’t taught math to my whole class in 2 months. I teach through self paced playlists, video, and @goformative. Read all about it at my website https://t.co/z2PKoPpJwR#fcpslearn
A2: Giving the burden of discovery and solving problems to the Ss. For 18 years, it was up to me to provide the answers, but this year we led with the question "Why?" Students were frustrated at first, but quickly learned they were capable of more than they believed. #fcpslearn
A1 I focus a lot on relationships while looking for ways to push kids to be big thinkers and creative problem solvers. Usually works in my favor & I can get Ss to do things they never dreamed of. #fcpslearn
A2 I matched documents with video clips and allowed students to analyze both and then compare...then do a write up on what they found to be true...based on evidence... #fcpslearn It ROCKED!
A2~tried hard via PD, online & otherwise to better blend trad& tech to increase student engagement & lifelong skills ~ total work in progress 😊 #fcpslearn
A1: In my second year as an administrator, I’ve learned to be comfortable asking a lot of questions. I misperceived this to be a weakness in the past but now know it’s vital to my growth as well as our staff & Ss’ growth. #fcpslearn
A3 I look at my students and what makes them love life. By knowing this, I am inspired to be a part of it and assure them that it will be worth it. #fcpslearn
#fcpslearn That even when I believe wholeheartedly that I am doing what is best for my students, that I have to ask them for feedback to make sure. Student Feedback is key for my growth as an educator.
A2: I provided my Ss with opportunities to share topics that interested them or were on their minds. I then used that information to select & read a variety of texts that addressed some difficult topics that my Ss wanted to talk about but didn’t know how. #fcpslearn
A3: The kids inspire me. They show me their passions and I try to incorporate them in class if I can. My pln on Twitter also inspires me. I get so many new ideas on here. #fcpslearn
A1 I also learned that as much as I try I can’t be everything to everyone all the time. Pick and choose and keep kids at the top of the list! #fcpslearn#champforkids
A2: I tried the #goodnewscalloftheday which I picked up from @PrincipalFrench and parents love it. We usually call from the principal’s office when a student is in trouble. Now we make calls to congratulate our parents about their children. #fcpslearn

A3-I get inspired by seeing my students thriving while owning their own learning. Also, when in doubt I look to other educators and thought partners to remind me that this is a tough job and there will be ups and down. Strikes and gutters. #fcpslearn
A4: Twitter. The people on here have made me a better teacher, I am confident that I would not have been able to do the exciting, engaging activities I have done this year without all of you and the rest of my PLN! #fcpslearn
A3: I look into the eyes of my students. They matter and I know they’re counting on me. I won’t give up on them- our work that we do is too important. I go to my #teachertribe and many of my @dbc_inc book collection for support, words of wisdom, and I nspiration #fcpslearn
A4: @MLB At-Bat. Lame. Yes. But I love sports and @JamesHeniff fueled my sports addiction by buying me a subscription for the 2018 season. All baseball, ALL THE TIME! #fcpslearn
A4 Well, I cannot function without it either. I love my @DeathWishCoffee ... Twitter has been my Go To this year, although, I am looking for a new organizer APP. #fcpslearn

I can’t tell you how much @goformative has changed my practice. I can take work that students do on paper and make an online assignment out of it and collect data from their answers to help identify individual Ss with needs. #fcpslearn
A4: Twitter-I just joined in August and had no idea what I’d been missing out on. I’ve grown so much this year professionally and love the awesome ideas on here. I also love the positivity!! #fcpslearn
A2: I tried having #crucialconversations with Ts and it went well! Learned that (most of) my Ts trust me enough to get out of their comfort zone. #fcpslearn
A4: Hands down: TWITTER! I’ve met such amazing educators that inspire me, show me love and support, and I have been able to connect through twitter chats like this one! #fcpslearn
A4: Twitter 😂😂😂. I use it as a tool to learn new things and ideas for my school. Check out this great idea for PD involving teamwork. Teachers loved it. #fcpslearn
A5 I will spend some time in Nature, with water, and listen...meditate...and notice. I will also write, present, attend sessions, PLN with my Tribe. #fcpslearn
A5: Disney, Beach, Go out to eat (all of these with @LBStrunk). I'll blog, podcast, read, binge Netflix, and plan some cool units to start the year off with a bang! #fcpslearn
A4: I can't function without Google Mail app - I have my notifications set and when emails come through, I can quickly glance to see what it's about and respond quickly. Ts have come to appreciate that! #fcpslearn
A5: Disney, Beach, Go out to eat (all of these with @LBStrunk). I'll blog, podcast, read, binge Netflix, and plan some cool units to start the year off with a bang! #fcpslearn
#fcpslearn A graffiti wall in my classroom. I loved it. The students used it to draw cartoons and word maps and we shared ideas on giant colorful, chalk murals.
A5: Spend quality time with my family, catch up with friends, take time for myself (reading, getting pampered, exercising, catching up on my DVR recordings 😂). I still want to take time to grow as an educator by attending PD, Reading professional books, etc #fcpslearn
A5: Oddly enough, my ways of relaxing and recharging are to throw myself into research&development to learn as much as I can. This is my time to gain new ideas and think through implementing. #fcpslearn
