Rich Hayzler, MS Principal from NJ. Pumped to see @sdtitmas leading #makeitreal tonight. After the #peqpsummit on Friday I am jacked up about PD! When it is done right it can be super powerful!
A1 People consider me to be "out of the classroom" (even thought I disagree) so I often like to share my passion through stories/examples of when I was "in" the classroom. #MakeItReal
A1: We actually started off the year with an edcamp style PD day for staff. One of the categories was passion projects. Teachers and admin presented on topics that meant something to them. It was awesome. Topics ranged from #geniushour to Sustainability to Yoga. #makeitreal

A1: I try to incorporates moment of mindfulness to a session I lead allowing Ts permission to take the time to breathe in the hopes of modeling this to their Ss. #selfcare#MakeItReal
A1: One of our PD days is our in-house conference. We survey the teachers on their interests and create one-day conference style PD where teachers choose the sessions they're interest in learning and discussing #makeitreal
A2 Too often mandatory PD is not relevant for the participants. By following the question it allows staff members to have a voice in their learning (even if they didn't chose to be there originally). #MakeItReal
A1: Joining in for a bit! I've enjoyed PD where we were able to pick from a variety of badges to "earn". Each badge represented a different tech tool or instructional strategy we'd learn about and then prove we tried/applied it to the classroom #makeitreal
Rich! In all seriousness, everyone should try at least one of your strategies! They make the "presenter" really rethink leading PD. I tend to get in trouble when I do the rock-paper-scissor opener though hahah! #MakeItReal
A2: It's important for the learners to feel empowered during PD Sessions. If you let them "own" the workshop everyone benefits. Go with the questions that ar raised and keep the focus on what is best for the kids and their learning. #makeitreal
A2: Even within one topic, there can be many different directions to take. Just like how every hour I teach a different class, the discussions seem to take different directions. Each group is made of different learners with different backgrounds, interest, etc. #makeitreal
Glad you can make it Hannah!! What's the hook on the badges? Is it the gratification of achievement? Collecting "them all?" We've consider a similar model. #MakeItReal
A2: I don’t want to sound like a broken record but if the presenter “follows the question” it validates the learner’s interests/needs. If this is modeled perhaps we can break the trend in classrooms and have more Ts find a way to “follow the question” with Ss #makeitreal
This was in fact a bit of what the Rhode Island Commissioner of Ed said tonight during his open remarks to the RI DTOY networking session. We must not only amplify the voices of Ss but also those voices of Ts & their professional learning needs #MakeItReal@RIDeptEd#BWRSDReady
I didn't even think about how modeling this in a PD session would indirectly change the way the teachers approach their students in the future. #MakeItReal
A3 I love to present using @nearpod or include @Mentimeter slides. This gives the attendees a "taste" of something else even when my presentation is about Skype, Microsoft, etc. #MakeItReal
How can we expect Ts to change their habits w/ their Ss if they are delivered PD in the exact way we know is NOT effective for our Ss to be engaged in their learning? I don’t think we can. So we must embed those ideas & innovations into the PD @mariojandrade#MakeItReal

A2: Late but here! If the PD leader doesn't follow the question, then a real learning opportunity will have vanished along with a chance to connect with learners in a way that he/she isn't at the moment. #MakeItReal
A3: I enjoy using tech tools like @Flipgrid@Mentimeter or @PearDeck when presenting. Recently I used them all when talking about "Demystifying Homework" at my new teacher orientation #makeitreal
A3 I like to use new methods or strategies while the content of the session may be on team building or some other content. Like creating a table top escape with clues focusing on building relationships #makeitreal
Yesterday students competed in “Chopped: Neolithic Edition”! They “cooked” 3-course meals using cultivated plants and animals of original farming regions, and presented to judges. Combining creativity, strategy, and critical thinking! #makeitreal#tlap#peqpantherpride
A3: Presenting with @PearDeck or using other tech tools along the way is how I do a two for one PD session. Have also had presenters use instructional strategies like Jigsaw to present their content. #MakeItReal
I'm a huge @Mentimeter fan. My PD sessions are often mixed groups, so having them post their roles in the word cloud option helps me get to know my participants AND shows them a new tool (Mentimeter). #MakeItReal

A3: It is easy to incorporate more than 1️⃣ 💡 into PD; when you engage your learners w/ edTech tools & strategies to improve not just teaching but learning of the whole student too. I use @Flipgrid for Ss voice & @givethxapp for gratitude. #BWRSDReady#makeitreal
When @snej80 called it modeling I had the ultimate "aha" moment. I don't know why I didn't think of it this way. Modeling how to use these tools/strategies while we learn something else is essential. #MakeItReal
Great job @sdtitmas facilitating tonight's #makeitreal chat on PD. I got to talk with of my edu heroes @RACzyz too! Thanks for sharing all of the ideas on how to make PD great for teachers. It is often overlooked but essential to the success of schools and students. #4OCF
A3. I had to mandatory trainings to give so I combined them into one :-) I trained on @CanvasLMS and the 3-D @zSpace at the same time. Teachers did the work on the 3-D computers but then submitted through campus. Bada bing bada boom. #MakeItCount
