Join us for our district's monthly twitter chat focusing on "Integrating the Arts" on February 1st from 7-8 pm. Come and chat about how to integrate music, art, and other specialized areas into your classroom to build learning across the content areas!
A1- It is alarming to me that there is a cumulative effect of the summer slide of a 2yr deficit by Middle School! If we can captivate students when there younger, maybe we can stop this!! #ccsedchat
That is just unbelievable! And we spend much of that time just managing classroom routines and getting to know each other, too! Crazy how much we have to accomplish in such a short time. #CCSEdChat
A2- One of my earliest memories of summer learning was participating in the Reading Club at the Cumberland County Library. It encouraged this very resistant reader to try to keep reading! #ccsEdchat
A2 I went to MusiCamp at Methodist University for years as a child and then became a counselor in college. That really, really helped me during the summers. #ccsedchat
A2: I remember receiving "Summer Weekly Reader" for several summers as a child. Having a chance to apply my reading skills while learning about new topics was beneficial. Also spending time at the "Bookmobile" that came to our neighborhood every week or two. #CCSEdChat
A3. One thing we have done is a fun summer activity book with learning tasks to complete. Students color them off as they complete them. We have also done a summer reading bookmark. Students could return both for a prize in August. (Both with limited participants.) #ccsEdchat
A3- Google posts great summer challenges. I keep my Google Classroom active and post them in it. I’m planning to post some digital #breakoutEDU this year too. #ccsedchat
A3: Sent home bags of books with each child. I accumulated the books during the year---gently used yard sale books, library discards, and books purchased with "Bonus Points" from Scholastic. Kids selected approx. 5 books and took them home.#CCSEdChat
A4-We have offered students access to learning subscriptions over the summer, which is something, but I know we can do more! Collaborative digital meet-ups? Weekly blog questions? Digital Breakout links? How:Schedule emails/tweets before summer. (Just Brainstorming!) #ccsEdchat
A5- Using @dcwnbct 's annotations..."Preach it!" (LOL) I can see this argument. If a student really "learns" something, can it be so easily forgotten? What a powerful reminder to teach students to be thinkers, not fact books! #ccsEdchat
A5- There definitely is a summer slide. I see it on my students and even myself. It’s important to keep the learning going for everyone so that we continue our lifelong journey to learn. #ccsedchat
A6-Thankfully, in my Kindergarten days, many of my students were so excited about finally being able to read that they were easy to encourage. I always gave out a book as the end-of-year gift! Hopefully, that was at least one! #ccsEdchat
A8- I am excited to spend time with my #NCDLCN PLN in June! After that I like to take time to travel some. That's when I clear my mind and start planning for next year. Plus don't forget #AllAmericanEdCamp Aug 18th! #ccsEdchat
A8- I will be working this summer on Fort Bragg but I will also be finding some time to relax. I plan on reading, getting my Google certification, and getting away from Fayetteville for a few days. #ccsedchat
