Most awesome thing I heard yesterday ... “Wouldn’t it be cool if we all (the students) made crazier pieces of furniture for the classroom.” Me ... #bfc530
I do have to say that our social media team- staff and students- is amazing! The videos and pictures they put out highlight so much of the work that is being done at the school and celebrate big and little wins. #bfc530
Our board of trustees has Visitor Morningsto learn about our school and to see us “in action.” We hope to make connections that are lasting whether it be donations or volunteering! #bfc530
A thing ive done a poor job of lately has been using twitter to promote my school. I see amazing things every day. But i need to get better at showing the world. #bfc530

I have invited officials from local, state and federal government to shadow me for a part of a day this October was part of @NASSP National Principals Month.

A: @CHornets1 has an active @facebook account. Even though the community is not physically in the buildings we proudly show off the innovative things we do. #bfc530
We have events built for the parents and community during the year. Most are grade level specific like “Donuts with Dad", "Muffins with Mom", but our "Evening of Excellence" is for everyone. We have robotics, science projects, author's chair, math tables, etc. on display. #bfc530
#bfc530 In addition to sharing great work through social media, we also have a Pride and Spitit evening, during which parents can see work that is on display.

I think promoting through social media is a great first step, but really, the community won’t understand the culture and energy of a school without sterling through our doors. Nothing replaces the personal connection! #bfc530
I itnisbeasy tonget parents to come out for the Arts ... Dance and Music music performance pack out the place with no free food ... can’t get anyone to show up for an academic event even when you are giving away free food. #bfc530

We invite people in for our amazing 27th of Feb Independence Day celebration - a show that's created by our studens to showcase their learning. Connects their Dominican SS & history classes (K - 12) to modern day issues & it gets better every year. #bfc530
Most @Buffalo_Schools run a Saturday Academy where the community can come, see the school, get a good breakfast and lunch, and participate in different activities around the school. #bfc530

I agree that in today's digital world schools need to do a better job promoting the learning that is accomplished daily on social media. This will create a buzz outside of the walls of the school. #bfc530
Definitely something you have to be aware of. Since I'm a specialist and visit classroom often, it is one question I always ask before I start snapping pictures. #bfc530
I use @RemindHQ but just for my class. I send home usually a question..ask your child about (Who was our Mystery Skype, who is Bob, what is a small moment, etc) #bfc530
I think it is more a parent mindset than the schools ... maybe we should be blunt with the parents ... How come you don’t support your kid’s academics like you do their music? #bfc530
Open houses can be effective ways to invite our larger community to see how and what we are learning. Tools like @Seesaw and @Brightspace provide a window into learning (for parents) on a daily basis. #bfc530

One thing that we do very well is host a Veteran's dinner for all area Vets. Our union runs it and many volunteer to serve. The Chorus sings. It's an awesome night and great way to connect to the community.

We also invite in people to share their careers and postsecondary journeys with students, bring people in through different days to do mock interviews and high school fairs/days for potential students. #bfc530
Hosting movie nights for families to gather and enjoy, multi cultural celebration festivals, social media! Personal invitations to come in and share expertise & visit classrooms, library etc. 😊 #bfc530 👍

Our grade 8 night is always well attended by families checking out the school for grade 8. We get good feedback about the student volunteers that help that night, the programs & the vibe of the school. #bfc530

We have a Twitter account and a Facebook page. Plus very supportive extended families. Now, I would like to promote some of the day-to-day learning that happens in our amazing school. #bfc530
Our primary method of getting out our good news is through our Facebook Page. We will broadcast school events live sometimes. Our Twitter hasn’t really taken off. I did create a YouTube channel for our school. #bfc530
