Welcome to our #CreateEdu chat! This week we are chatting about taking action on new ideas with our guest moderators: the attendees of #FETC and #BETT2019! Introduce yourself and where you're from.
Jennifer, Education Strategist from @participate! Had a blast with everyone at #FETC! Excited to reflect on the experience tonight at the #createedu chat!

Waiting for a few people to show up, so I'm jumping in. Hi to all from sunny and cold Beijing. Steve here and I work with @inspirecitizen2 to bring PBL and action alive through empathy, SDGs, and whole school visioning around service learning.
Q1: Whether you attended #FETC or #BETT2019 or followed along on Twitter, what do you think were the standout ideas that were shared and explored? #CreateEdu
Hello Steve!!!! OMG. Beijing is my hometown. i left china many years ago though. Using any VPN? i could never get twitter to work properly even with a VPN in china. #CreateEDU
A1) for me, I loved a session that I accidentally went into about disconnecting from Tech and teaching mindfulness to the adults .. #CreateEdu It reminded me how important it is reconnect to yourself and others sans tech
Howdy from Texas! Kara Noah- DLC. I am not at #FETC but I’m going to stalk this chat so I can learn so new groovy things. Also, did you know it’s national backwards day!! #CreateEdu
So we cross paths again, Steve! Hi everyone, Ben from balmy Manila, Philippines here. First time in this chat, so perhaps mostly lurking today. #CreateEdu

A1: I know Mr Koen Timmers was at #Bett2019 and if per chance you don't follow his work and message, it's a must. He's leading important change in the world built around empathy, community, pedagogy, and SDGs.

A2: I think a big part of taking any conference learning back to the classroom comes from these types of backchannels. Networking and talking with others to co-develop curriculum #CreateEdu
A2: I think it's important to write a journal of the experience, emphasizing biggest takeaways, new collaborators, and practical ideas you can soon incorporate in your practice. #createedu
A2: I'm am trying hard to cultivate a "beginner's mind" when it comes to new ideas so that I do not miss out on innovative or interesting things. I also try to balance this with health doses of skepticism. Trying something for myself is ideal. #createedu
A2: The post-conference communication can help keep ideas fresh, share what has been applied successfully and help other teachers with ideas. Learning shouldn't stop because the final keynote has been given! #CreateEDU
A2: For me, the best way to take action on new ideas from conferences is to SHARE and DISCUSS with my #PLN. #CollaborativePD propels me into ACTION. #createedu
A2: I am already weaving so many new ideas, buzz words, developments, etc. into my conversations- I feel inspired to share the messaging so everyone can grow! #CreateEdu
A2 First it is important. I think that we must immediately use what we learn when we return. I starting using Adobe Spark immediately and it has moved me forward using it with my Ss #CreateEdu So "strike while it is hot" or still fresh in your mind
A2
- After a conference is over, it is important to follow up with the people that you have connected with at the conference
- Have one-on-one chat and go deeper and figure out ways to collaborate and support each other
#CreateEDU
A2: I challenge myself to create calendar reminders for the following week (or month, or...) to take action on the new inspiration.
Plus, it's funny when wifey asks things like, "Why does it say on your calendar to 'check emoji cipher for Breakout'?" #CreateEDU
A2
- Share your ideas with the world via blogs, live streaming videos, audio content, visuals
- Sharing ideas help us connect with others who are interested in similar projects
- Sharing also makes collaboration happen much easier
#CreateEDU
A2: I know that I can´t keep everything to myself... We have several leaders across the district that create PD on the Potty... #PDeverywhere#spreadthelove#createedu

A2:
Research shows conferences are the spark.
But for transformational change, educators must return and support:
Collaboration & Reflection
Personalization & Relevance
Ongoing & Blended Learning & Coaching
Building Capacity & Growth Mindset
Or it dissipates.
I've totally been guilty of that in the past because I'm a skeptic by nature. I try to keep in mind the words of the great and powerful @dylanwiliam, "Everything works somewhere. Nothing works everywhere." #createedu
Don't let the inspiration die! Figure out a follow up plan, work towards an attainable, communal goal and never stop reaching to achieve more, together! #CreateEDU
A2 I usually go through my Twitter feed and curate resources. Blogging also helps me to reflect on my conference experience. I'm working on a blog post now about the #BETT2019 Learnings from the TeachMeet for the @adobe blog. Stay tuned! #CreateEdu

Jumping in for A2: have a brainstorm session with someone who can support follow through. Sitting with @MattHoffHCPS tomorrow to debrief #fetc 🤓 #CreateEDU
Twitter is such a great curation tool, although sometimes it moves SO fast it's hard to keep up. But I love to keep Twitter lists from people I meet at conferences and follow those on Tweetdeck to stay up with people I meet. #CreateEDU
Yes. Twitter is a GREAT tool. i have been a fan of twitter for quite a few years. met so many amazing people
i also start to discover more and more value of linkedin!

When I worked in marketing I spent SO much time on LinkedIn, less so now in the education space. But perhaps it's time to go back to LinkedIn and build a new community there. #CreateEDU

A3: My students always like "real world" challenges. I give them a job to tackle and then they work together or compete to win the "job". Focus on real world projects and creative brainstorming. We do these as bi-weekly challenges. #CreateEdu
A2 I throughly agree @aiaddysonzhang essentially these conversations could and should take place before during and most importantly after the conference with the power of a conference # the #SocMedHE and #altc are great examples of this, as highlighted by @MarenDeepwell

A3: I'm obsessed with the creativity ideas @latifnasser shared for his @radiolab process https://t.co/sy6TLjpR6r
Faves are the random wikipedia rabbit holes + setting up completely unexpected google alerts just to see what shows up #CreateEDU
Being a Digital Learning Coach- one part of my job is to inspire our educators to inspire our students creativity... I love doing this with SHORTFILMS!!! SOAR is AMAZING and my new favorite... https://t.co/PHqvT0ORBr#createedu
A3: Creative writing is so powerful. Humans are hardwired for stories, and sometimes we forget to let Ss write, read, and enjoy them at the secondary level like we do for younger children. #createedu
A3 I love activities where the 4Cs are stressed. The sessions that I copresented all stressed that. We did a session for instructional coaches where they built towers at #fetc. Initially, they seemed confused that they had some hands on but they loved it in the end #CreateEDU
Amen, Suzanne!!!! tech and social media have made it so easy to stay in touch and keep the conversation going. There is no reason to stop the flow of ideas!
So GREAT to see you on the chat sweetie. #CreateEDU
Q3: Creativity is lacking in many California schools because for too long we have expected only one way of solving problems or to prepare for standardized test. The workforce is not one answer directed. I love letting my students design a solar car! #CreateEDU, #cuiedtech

A3: I find that creativity is best in groups- you might have something to share, but then stop the “soliloquy” and let others blossom! (Idea from @kimbearden!) #CreateEdu
i felt the same way when i just got started and i stayed with ONE platform only. i am a slow leaner and i take baby steps. Now, i have expanded my network to all the other platforms as well. you can do it, Mark! #CreateEDU
