Welcome to #mdeschat! Tonight, we are focused on REFLECTING and GOAL SETTING. Take a moment to introduce yourself and reflect on a success you or your Ss have experienced in the last week.
Greg- K, #TeamFelegy. Glad you could join us tonight for #mdeschat. Hope all are well. I’ve seen significant growth in student stamina and perseverance. Their ability to persist and stay focused for longer periods of time has been noticeable and exciting.
Chris, elementary, principal, had lunch with a student who earned it,he brought a friend. I asked how he chose her, he said because she's new to our school. So sweet! #mdeschat
Evylyn, AP at PEW Glad to join my #mdeschat family tonight! My students are speaking in Spanish in the hallways and sharing their vision. Can't wait to see how they become Global Leaders :)
Walt, principal CRJ Baltimore and a success this week is receiving an email from a 9th grade student, who expressed interest in leading morning prayer. #mdeschat
A1. My questions usually focus on how to support teachers the best; it's hard to ever feel like you're doing enough, but you have to keeping moving forward #mdeschat
A1. I tend to reflect on my goals. I would ask questions such as: What went well and how can I repeat it? How can I support others to meet their goals? How can I pay forward? Am I doing my very best? If not, why? What do I need to learn more about? #mdeschat
Both @principal64 and @evyabel mentioned a power word- SUPPORT. Leaders at all levels can and should reflect on how they can support others. Sometimes just being a listening ear can be immense support. #mdeschat
A1: We have school-wide reflection, the Examen; 5-steps: awareness of God’s presence, review the day, note, emotions, choose one feature of the day and pray from it, and look toward tomorrow. #mdeschat
A2. Reflection is like breathing, it's a necessity. I think we tend to reflect most when things challenge us, so it's an important skill to hone #mdeschat
A2. Reflection helps me identify areas of growth and guides me to use my learner strength to develop in these areas. Sometimes it requires time to ask a colleague what do you think? #mdeschat
We have an amazing Peer Ministry Team, where we intentionally build in activities for students to notice God’s presence in all things. Amazing to hear the dialogue. #mdeschat
A1 interactions, what went well, what didn't. How can I improve to be more effective in the future? What sparked those lightbulb moments and can I do it again? #mdeschat
Yes! When Ss reflect on the effort invested in their work, they can better evaluate their performance. It’s tough because HS Ss are all about the grade. #mdeschat#ShiftCulture
A2 if its broke, I need to fix it. I like to look for ways to improve daily procedures and how I can refine my lessons or attack things differently. #mdeschat
Yes, and the first step to making a change is to acknowledge the issue and the need for the change. Sometimes reflection can be a humbling experience. #mdeschat
A3 LOVE reflecting with ss! Especially wrt realizing how they learn best, what they need to do to be successful and advocating for themselves. #mdeschat
A2: Reflection as a daily exercise forces me to slow down being present and supportive when checking in with faculty by asking how I can help then listening. #mdeschat
A3- I used a plus/delta conversation w/ my K Ss for the first time this week, and was excited to see their awareness and their “delta” ideas. #mdeschat
I ask Ss to complete an after-test survey - how well do they think they did? How well do they think they studied? What would they have done differently? What could I do differently? I get raw, emotional feedback in the moment!
A3. Time for Ss to reflect is something I discuss often w/ Ts when reflecting on lessons. Ss need to make connections, advocate for support, cope w/ challenges as well as celebrate successes #mdeschat

A4 I have room to for growth here. We have general discussions, but I need to implement something more concrete w/accountability like I did for myself. #mdeschat
A4 #mdeschat - I ask Ss what they hope to learn during the year and how they plan to get there. I also ask what is their greatest fear and what do they need from me to help them overcome that fear!
A4- At the beginning of the year, we have initial conversations about things they hope to learn and accomplish, and areas where they want to improve. Takes some modeling to get started, but it can be powerful discussion when understanding is clear. #mdeschat
A4: Goal-setting is a vital component of assessment of/for learning. You’re either looking ahead or reflecting; using data to inform or evaluate performance. #mdeschat
A4. Promoting and facilitating a time for goal setting for students is vital in their progress. If they know where they want to go they will be focused on getting there. Many times we want them to reach goals that are unknown for them #mdeschat
A4: The student agenda books are great places for Ss to write their goals. I introduced the calendar on student cell phones as a system to organize their daily schedule “goals”. #mdeschat
We used to have Data Binders where students would track their data and have parent conversations to present data and share their goals. It is a powerful tool :)
A5. Goal setting is on-going, but I have always reminded students about setting goals at the beginning of marking period and after the new year starts #mdeschat
Ps should absolutely be a part of the goal-setting conversation. They can motivate Ss to achieve the goals they have set, and may have goals they want for their Ss to work on. Teamwork makes the dream work. #mdeschat
A5- Consistent revisiting of goals, tracking progress. Once goal has been achieved, onto a new and greater goal. Cannot become stagnant or complacent. Keep moving forward. #mdeschat
A6. Remember to check in w/students & teachers. Let them know setbacks, even failures (yikes!) are part of process of reaching a goal. It's ok!#mdeschat
A6 I love catching them in the moment of joy and saying remember the you feel right now and what you did to feel it - especially at honor roll assemblies. #mdeschat
A6 I love catching them in the moment of the joy of a goal achieved and saying "always remember how you feel right now, and remember what you did to feel it." #mdeschat
