#Edtechchat focuses on Education Technology. Co-founder Tom Murray says #edtechchat "connects us professionally with inspiring educators from all over the world, all of who encourage us to be better every day for the children and families we serve.”
Hey #edtechchat! I'm Sadie...Instructional Innovation Specialist from St. Louis. Silly fancy title that basically means I help teachers help their kiddos.
Hi #EdTechChat! I'm Matt in Seattle, a software dev and volunteer teacher/teacher trainer in CS through @tealsk12org. Excited to be back and learn from those of you in the trenches full time!
If you haven't heard of it yet, and are at a desktop, https://t.co/RCAC8QZAMW is awesome for chats. You can add a column that is a search for "#EdTechChat", and then keep track of new posts, replies to you, etc. all at the same time.
A1 - twitter/instagram are great for short stories (and wide reaching). Apps like @Showbie@RemindHQ are great for showcasing student progress with more control over who sees it. #edtechchat
A1 The apps we use to tell our everyday learning stories in the classroom are Puppet Pals, Explain Everything, and GAFE. As an edu I use Twitter, Paper53, and Wordpress to name a few. #edtechchat
A1. I've been using @instagram a lot lately to share my daily reflections. I try to take time every evening to reflect and consider things/people I'm appreciative of and thankful for. I also reflect on the work I get to do with educators. #edtechchat
A1 I tweet and use Instagram a lot. I absolutely deplore Facebook and hell will freeze over before I have an account. Today I found out I could be a distant relative of a pope #edtechchat
A1. I also use my site to write about the work I get to do. I've been focusing a lot more lately on sharing this work and the fantastic things I get to create and design with educators! #edtechchathttps://t.co/ld9Q3p7NsX
I've been relaxing and enjoying time with #EduMatch being social tonight. Now, I'm reading the #Twitter feed and joining in #edtechchat. It's always fun learning new tech for my little artists.
A1: I made it a goal a couple of years ago to tweet once a day, but most of the time it’s way more. Also Instagram, the occasional Periscope, and does EduBlogs count? #edtechchat
A2: Our team uses @trello to sort students for flexible grouping time as well as document their progress within that intervention time frame. #edtechchat
A2. I like to encourage the educators I work with to build in time for reflecting, both for themselves & students. Some of their favorite tools, @Flipgrid@Seesaw@RecapThat & countless protocols that allow us to think, reflect, share & grow! #edtechchat
A2 I am very impressed with my 3rd grade Ss work in Google Slides. They created great presentations about what they want to be when they grow up. They learned how to do so much while working on it. #edtechchat
A2: My kids ask if they can Snapchat stuff they make in my class almost daily. And the admins do a great job managing social media, school Snapchat account included. #edtechchat
They are coming from @nathan_stevens tonight. We have a moderators list you can follow on tweetdeck - let me find the link - or do you have it handy @s_bearden#edtechchat

A2: My students are awesome because they have really improved with tech this year! Signing in on Google Classroom and other apps has shown great progress. #edtechchat
A2 My Ss are expected to present their independent reading to the class by hosting a book chat. Many integrate #edtech. Always impressed with how they share their understanding of the story, sometimes with tech, sometimes not. #ChooseTheBestTool#edtechchat
A2: in 1:1 iPad school, many of our Ts loving Flipgrid this year and Office 365. Ss & Ts also using Seesaw. Ss use iMovie often to create and share work #edtechchat
A2. My students organized an anti-human slavery meeting with district attny speakers. They told other Ss, sent txts, flyers, emails, snapchat. Loved that they found a way to communicate.
#edtechchat
A1 - I don't have Ss or faculty:
But, on twitter - I think it's super awesome how many Ss and Ts put themselves and their work out there, sharing praise, and helping each other. This is one of the most supportive communities I've seen on SM. #edtechchat
A2: my students love to use their school-issued iPads so us teachers implement inquiry into our lessons so the students can take part in research with their iPads #edtechchat
A2: Work together, stay student focused, meet needs, support each other, build success, create opportunities-I could go on forever. They are truly awesome! #edtechchat
A2 I love seeing students creating and sharing their own games, videos and ebooks on @geniusplaza. They love challenging each other to their games through reteaching skills and concepts #edtechchat
I just saw something on Twitter about using Garage Band to record book chats & then upload for other Ss to listen to...much like Podcasts (i'm slightly addicted to them now)
#EdTechchat
A2: My students have the biggest hearts and they want to help people even if they are not sure how to do it. Also they all want to be Youtube stars. #edtechchat
It was awesome - part of a history class, each one had to develop their own themed exhibit set based on a topic. Got to "see" what they did #edtechchat
I fear this is more wide spread than we want to believe. It's so important that we give both teachers and students freedom, space, and time to share their stories. #edtechchat
A2: Many of our Ts have started using @Seesaw to showcase student learning in real-time. Ss are proud of their work and it's building relationships with families #edtechchat
A2 My Ss have done really awesome #pbl work this year, connecting thru @edmodo with Ss in Spain, Argentina and Mexico and talking thru @Flipgrid , also creating #AR with @MetaverseApp in 8th grade #edtechchat
In reply to
@nathan_stevens, @edmodo, @Flipgrid, @MetaverseApp
A2 Began our second wave of lit groups last week. Book groups discussed which tool to use to capture notes while reading. Many went with @Padlet while some wanted the stream in Google Classroom. #edtechchat
It is VERY widespread. Educators aren’t confident in what they do. Rockstar fever feeds this. Rockstars don’t exist because every teacher is a rockstar #edtechchat
A2. I have been enjoying watching the mix of traditional and new media throughout the makerspace. Legos photographed, playdoh animated, stick figures photoshopped and enhanced. #edtechchat#makerEd
A2 A handful have approached me to share their learning adventure via #MinecraftEDU. Psyched that they are storyboarding their plan, building in the platform, and screencasting a tour. #edtechchat
We’ve used Seesaw in lower school, even K to share Ss work and I used to use in 8th grade for #Booksnaps, written and video responses as well as blogs. So easy to use and share. Great app #edtechchat
A2. I've been able to work with some educators who are really harnessing @Seesaw to allow students to share their work! It can do wonders for their confidence! #edtechchat
A1 out county is pushing every school to have a communications liaison and has been using Twitter and some schools are using Remind to tell the daily stories #edtechchat
Ahhh that’s it! @MetaverseApp was what they were using. It seriously blew my mind. I was so excited to see the work and the students were eager to share it with me. #edtechchat
In reply to
@Rdene915, @MetaverseApp, @cospaces_edu, @MetaverseApp
A2. I also try very hard to share the stories of the educators I work with. Whether it's pics on Instagram, tweeting out their fantastic work or writing about them on my site - I tell them I LOVE to brag on them and I'm thankful for their inspiration. #edtechchat
A1-2. Twitter and GSuite are everyday tech tools - If it's a tool I use everyday as a professional, students should be using it too - we must consider how we prepare students for future careers!! #edtechchat
Brilliant! For all of my buddies who have created 100's of @Storify stories like I have and are looking for a way to save these before Storify shuts down... Check out @SutoriApp's new "Import your Storify" functionality! #edtech#edtechchat#Storify
Final bonus last year was to summarize the novel in a tweet and explain the theme with an original meme. There were definitely some who rushed the essay to spend time on the bonus #edtechchat :)
As they learn new programming languages and apply their learning to problem solve, students are increasingly becoming creators rather than consumers of technology. #edtechchat
A3 Ss need to tell their story because they are taking ownership of their learning! They are also helping the retrieval process and making it more meaningful. #edtechchat
A3: It offers students a chance to reflect on what that story is, and to appreciate that it's meaningful enough to share (no matter what it is!) #EdTechChat
A3 Students should tell their own story because it provides an opportunity for them to reflect, which can be really difficult. It also gives them agency and ownership of where they plan to take their learning. #edtechchat
I wish I could give you specifics! Our Ss tech squad has been promoting the project and recieving funding. We currently have 2 stationary units and 2 mobile units in the building #edtechchat
A3 Helps other Ss, sometimes Ss feel like they are the only one that might be struggling, or lack confidence, when we share, it helps others develop confidence and comfort too, and helps w/ goal setting and reflection #edtechchat
A1 - I don't have Ss or faculty:
But, on twitter - I think it's super awesome how many Ss and Ts put themselves and their work out there, sharing praise, and helping each other. This is one of the most supportive communities I've seen on SM. #edtechchat
A2 my students are learning to appreciate Deaf literature and culture through my ASL class. I am introducing EdPuzzle this year. We have recently tried Kahoot #edtechchat
literally happened to be on throwing up a proposal for the #ISTE18 crownsourcing and saw this in my tweetdeck column...felt overwhelmed by the nostalgic feels. :) #edtechchat
A3 I think it helps Ss reflect when they tell their own story. Also, it gives them practice in organizing and articulating their thoughts. Whether that is in a blog, presentation, or speech. #edtechchat
A3 Telling their learning story allows Ss to share their understanding, to document their growth, reflect on their decisions, and to engage in dialogue about their work. Adds depth, engages, and empowers. #edtechcat
A3 - Because by reflecting on it, they'll realize how much they *have* learned and be able to see their own progress. Especially important for those who feel behind. Progress should be judged against self, not others. #edtechchat
A3: Publishing gives Ss ownership. It opens the opportunity for feedback and collaboration which helps them prepare and improve their skills for future opportunities. #edtechchat
Late on Q1, but here is my answer to that….Be sure to check out @classintercom! We have a group of Ss that share from our district Twitter acct. using CI! Its awesome…and cheap! #edtechchat
A3: It helps Ss process their learning, gives them ownership in the learning process which in turn helps make learning more meaningful and relevant to them. #edtechchat
A3. Giving Ss a platform, time, space, freedom to share their learning journey empowers them to take more ownership in their learning. It can also help Ts be reflective practitioners and inform instruction. #edtechchat
A3: Telling their story helps Ss establish their personalities and traits as learners. They can share successes and get support from their learning community. Great empathy building! #edtechchat
Love presenting w my former student about her story. Provides hope, purpose and high expectations for students w Autism. Plus takes people by surprise when she uses her iPad as communication device #edtechchathttps://t.co/KMwFWSHmJJ
A3: Students should tell their learning story for several reasons: 1. it empowers them, 2. it helps them to reflect on their learning and teach others, 3. it encourages learning #edtechchat
A3: b/c Learning is personal and individualized! Each S is affected in their own way and they should be allowed to demonstrate what they’ve learned in a variety of ways, NOT on a standardized test #edtechchat
A3: Students should tell their stories, so others don't tell their stories for them, so others may learn from them, and so they experience authentic audiences and feedback #edtechchat
Hi there #edtechchat, Phi lfrom Beijing here. Home with a flu today. For those of you with younger learners, we have a cool video series helping them to tell their story https://t.co/RkjQ8iHjXQ
A3: every S deserves to have their voice heard - let them be heard globally, gain confidence, ask good Qs, collaborate with others to enhance their learning. #edtechchat
A3. Allowing Ss to share their learning journeys also helps amplify their voices and can teach/model other uses for social media and tech tools. #edtechchat
A3. Students with real opportunities to share stories they create get to find a voice beyond simplistic hearts of someone else's retweet - its a validation no "A" can match. Why we created the podcasting studio and the animation boxes. #edtechchat
A3 When students share/their learning story, they make their thinking visible. This physically shows grow and change on which Ss can reflect and Ts can base feedback. 1 of 2 #edtechchat#kpdsbpride
A3: By telling their story, Ss can build confidence, gain feedback from an authentic audience, and practice opening themselves to constructive feedback. #edtechchat
A3: Students should tell their stories, so others don't tell their stories for them, so others may learn from them, and so they experience authentic audiences and feedback #edtechchat
Twitter opens the doors to so many worlds and give everyone a voice (for better or worse). I focus on the better and the reward has been grand.
#edtechchat
A3P2: Also, we need to hear the learning story to help them continue it. You can’t design meaningful educational experiences without consulting the learner. #edtechchat
A3b: as a T, I want to know what Ss think, feel, fear. They need a safe space to share a piece of themselves and storytelling allows all of that to happen #edtechchat
A3 When student thinking and work is made public, it seems more relevant. The audience is authentic and their work matters in a real-world, vs just an in-classroom context. 2 of 2 #edtechchat#kpdsbpride
A3 The tech interface allows all learners an opportunity to have their voice heard. My most reserved Ss enjoy climbing into the recording box to let their story flow. #edtechchat#StuVoice
I’m starting a new project where Ss record their voice every year to create a vocal portfolio. By their senior year, I want to have them do a reflective learning story about their growth! #edtechchat
A3. Sharing learning stories gives us an opportunity to celebrate perseverance and our unique journeys - as opposed to only celebrating the end result/success #edtechchat
we have a social justice class playing the Massive "world peace" game. Have been finding, downloading, designing, and printing for the last month. Cannot wait to watch. #edtechchat#ICBMbowling
A3 Students telling their learning story helps find their voice, define what they want to accomplish, and gain confidence to take throughout the learning journey #edtechchat
My hope is that in my work with educators, I can empower & inspire them to share their stories and feel super awesome about the work they're doing everyday with Ss. #edtechchat
So true Tim. And the fact Ss can rehearse by revising and editing until they feel it is their best work makes a difference vs. the stress of 'on the spot' performance anxiety #edtechchat
A3 I was lucky enough to meet 4 fearless women at our #ade2017 event & we formed @onestoryforward because we believe that our stories are powerful ways to bring communities together #EdTechChat
Since committing to Twitter to grow my #PLN, I have grown so much as a T! Grateful to all my tweeps for helping me stay up to date on the newest tools and techniques #edtechchat
I just recently got up to 100%, and boy, does it feel great! All of you, just by being here for growth and PD, should make sure you tack on at least 50% more than you were thinking. #EdTechChat
A4. PicSayPro is still the quick photo-graffitti app for quick work. @WeVideo continues to come up with creative ways to do cloud video. @Flipgrid has been a great feedback tool this year. Stop Motion Studio also popular #edtechchat
A3 I'm always reminded that we're all we've got. We have to know when to lift and when to lean. I wrote about this very thing here https://t.co/UtUKrFgfW4#edtechchat
A4: I'm a big fan of Seesaw. I think it is awesome that not only can students showcase their work with their classmates but it is really cool when parents participate by leaving comments on their work. #edtechchat
A4 The apps we use in the classroom are Puppet Pals, Explain Everything, GAFE, Padlet, and Minecraft. We share our stories with families through Drive (portfolio), our S generated blog, and class twitter feed. #edtechchat
TY friend! You are a constant source of empowerment for me. I appreciate all of your kind words, the fact that you push back and challenge me, and your creative ideas! #edtechchat
TY friend! You are a constant source of empowerment for me. I appreciate all of your kind words, the fact that you push back and challenge me, and your creative ideas! #edtechchat
A4: Students have used @AdobeSpark and faculty have created team newsletters on @SmorePages and shared them with parents and school administration #edtechchat
im looking for the creative expansion push in the next semester. Pretty traditional feedback during our first month before the finals crunch, but there is too much potential for the tool as a creative outlet. #edtechchat
#EdTechChat: misc. add on related to tonight's chat: this was a great read I saw earlier about students' race and background and how they feed into students' expressing themselves and their stories through schoolwork. Might interest some of you!
A4: Been trying and modeling and leading all year to get Ts to buy in to sharing their story on any platform. Got a lot of awesome happening at @Winterboro_High the world should see. #edtechchat
Thanks Mickey! I really appreciate that, thankful for you attending my workshop last year. I'm very excited to be helping @JaimeDonally in lots of #ARVRinEDU and #globaled workshops too #fetc#edtechchat

we started getting some traction when students demo'd their story telling in the makerspace. Invited teachers down (donut Thursdays!) and showed them animatics, the lego wall, and mini-podcasts...teachers started asking about "checking out" the makerspace. So cute #edtechchat
Recently discovered slow chats, and am a huge fan! I think its a great way to introduce chats to Ts. Any slow chats you'd recommend checking out? #edtechchat
A4: We’ve implemented a lot of tech so fast that many Ss and Ts are overwhelmed at where to share learning. They use social media for social purposes, but using it for learning is a new developing concept #edtechchat
Ts and Ss should be using any tool they can to better experiences! Tech is evolving rapidly so we need to continue researching tools and trying to model best practices. Ts are lead learners! #edtechchat
A4. Honestly, there are ways to use almost every tool/platform to tell stories and reflect. All it takes is creative design and most tools can be transformed for this! #edtechchat
I am also a big fan of slowchats. We used to coordinate one up here in Maine for the PST crowd knowing they were usually burried under papers, research, and practicums. #edtechchat

I was thinking of creating my own specific to our district- sharing successes and some fun challenges (like including a GIF in your tweet) but #formativechat is hosting one this week for Formative Feedback Week! #edtechchat
A4 Our biggest struggle has been easily sharing student created media via our LMS. Simple pics and videos are easiest - does anyone have experience with Blackbaud or suggest other LMS? #edtechchat

A5. We can start by encouraging Ts to share their stories, then work in lots of reflection for students so they get used to being able to amplify their voices and share their opinions and feelings about the work they're doing, creating, designing. #edtechchat
A5. Storytelling should be part of the classroom/PD. Ppl need a chance to show off, say what's working/not working. Doesn't have to be electronic.
#edtechchat
I am always impressed with the work of @TLKaegi and his class blog. His goal is not to share the end product but the nitty gritty work it takes to get to the finished product. Process! Adding headcams is pretty cool too! #edtechchat
Might be easier to link to an external media site from the Blackbaud LMS. They may have improved since I last used it but their products don’t tend to embed external media well. #edtechchat
A5: Stop thinking inside the box for assignments/assessments - let the students be creative and work to their strengths - tri fold brochures are old - make a video instead! #edtechchat
A5:My biggest need is to plan time for it. There are always more topics to cover, and I need to remember that learning a subject isn't the topics taught, but what students can share about what they learned. Every class is an opportunity to build a passion for learning #EdTechChat
A5. And it's so important when we ask for reflection, allow for it, as reflective practitioners, we need to be using it to inform practice, help drive Ss agency... #edtechchat
A5 Engage edus by asking them to experiment with tools at faculty meeting. Prompt them to share the story of their day. Seeing it in action will help them consider how to bring it to the classroom. #edtechchat
A5: I teach ELA, so I could easily have my students practice writing or videotaping their story for class.
I think for PD by having tweet about what they are learning. #edtechchat
A5 - by remembering that it's easier to remember stories, than facts. So explaining concepts by putting them into a story increases chance of long term memory gain. #edtechchat
A5: Storytelling is such a rich piece of the human culture. Let's create chances for Ts to do this in PD and showcase them afterward! Apple Clips is a favorite #edtechchat
#edtechchat In the age of PARCC and common core and "data driven instrucstion"(which is in many cases just test prep) self criticism is more likely of the two

Our teachers are realizing that they do not have to master every tool for Ss to use them-they give them choice in how they (Ss) want to demonstrate their learning #nbpcot#EdTechChat
Our teachers are realizing that they do not have to master every tool for Ss to use them-they give them choice in how they (Ss) want to demonstrate their learning #nbpcot#EdTechChat
Often see many Ts feeling as if they are rushed to get to more content delivery when slowing down seems more practical and important. What are we rushing toward? #edtechchat
The smartest person in the room is the room itself. Proving choice empowers S to think about their message and their audience. Support for tool navigation can come from anyone in the room. Ss too! #edtechchat
Our teachers are realizing that they do not have to master every tool for Ss to use them-they give them choice in how they (Ss) want to demonstrate their learning #nbpcot#EdTechChat
a5 Our middle schoolers are always asking "who will grade this?" It's made for some great conversations around authentic audiences (and less grading). #edtechchat
And being open to having their students learn more and teach them about the tool! Some students will take that choice as a challenge to learn more than you know, so it's a win-win. #EdTechChat
Good question. In the PD experiences I facilitate, I have many chances for reflection worked in. Both using tools and protocols. I try to make it all very easy to take back to the classroom. #edtechchat
But its not about the video - that becomes just the tool - and it should be replaced when it is not the best avenue for expression for a project. We need to replace with precision - not blanket tools across subjects #edtechchat
A6: Steps we can take to help Ts & Ss become storytellers is modeling easy, quick ways to share their stories. Giving them options will help. Everyone has a fav...let them run w/theirs
#EdTechchat
A6 To help others be better tellers of their story we need to be present. Slow the pace of the day and allow for the story to unfold, for the connect to be made, for the conversation to breathe. Students, teachers, community! #edtechchat#NWP
A5: A5: Make it routine-students need to feel comfortable telling their stories. Designate time to journal, Free write, Tweet a 6 word autobiography, etc. Make it meaningful and create an environment where students feel safe to write and share. #edtechchat
#donutThursdays is the secret to all professional development initiatives at my school. time the release of the newsletter to the release of the day's restaurant-of-sugary-carbs. #edtechchat
A6 - 1. Choice. Stories can be audio, video, written words, sculptures, paintings, etc.
2. Exposure. Seeing how others share (and what works/doesn't) improves our own output.
#edtechchat
Final bonus last year was to summarize the novel in a tweet and explain the theme with an original meme. There were definitely some who rushed the essay to spend time on the bonus #edtechchat :)
My biggest rush this year is the AP test. I'm already excited about the month we'll have after the test for free form projects and more student flexibility #EdTechChat
The frustrations of photo storage and management has left scars with adults. The easiest way to get teachers on board is to show how easily students make digital media content with these apps #edtechchat
The recommendation is change LMS systems - Whipplehill went partially backwards when bought by Blackbaud - I don't see the richness of other LMS systems anywhere on the timeline #edtechchat
A6. I will stand behind giving them time, space and freedom to tell their stories. Creating an enviornment that allows for this, building capacity and supporting them in their storytelling. Also, if we ask for stories & reflection, actually listening and using them. #edtechchat
A6: Provide really good examples and then model it ourselves. Telling your own story can make you feel vulnerable! Need to have a safe space to share and listen #edtechchat
Brilliant! For all of my buddies who have created 100's of @Storify stories like I have and are looking for a way to save these before Storify shuts down... Check out @SutoriApp's new "Import your Storify" functionality! #edtech#edtechchat#Storify
A5 We can integrate storytelling when we identify who will be listening. Teachers and students usually want to share their story when a powerful learning experience or a dud occurs. It's the worry of being judged that prevents anyone willing to share from doing so. #edtechchat
A6. I will never stop sharing the awesome work I get to do, design, create with the educators I'm fortunate enough to work with! I love bragging on the awesome things they do and how much they inspire me to keep pushing! #edtechchat
A6 The first step is to build in time for the Ss to be able to tell their own stories. Next, we need to give them options for telling their stories and their options for a finished product. #edtechchat
A6: ask them for their stories, and then given them undivided attention! Everyone, especially students, know when they're only half listened to, and will shut off sincerity #EdTechChat
let me see if i can pull some. I know that i have the memes from the "what i learned in Religion class" most recently -- some of those were fall-on-the-floor funny :) #edtechchat
Get the ear of leadership and put them in front of someone who tells a good story - they ask them why we don't teach kids to do this - it could be a movie, speaker, video, anything. Just push the envelope a little #edtechchat
