#INeLearn Archive

The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.

Q1 Many Ss are experts users of technology; are they technology innovators? #inelearn
  • nthorg Nov 2 @ 9:11 PM EDT
R1: I think user can = viewer. Watching Youtube etc. not innovative. Things like Minecraft, creating videos, encourages innovation #INeLearn
  • risky4 - Moderator Nov 2 @ 9:11 PM EDT
R1: Innovators must be nurtured, Students using tech doesn't necessarily make them innovative. We can guide that! #INeLearn
  • keshiaseitz - Moderator Nov 2 @ 9:11 PM EDT
I've noticed that as well. They are so used to showing what they know by "giving the right answers" instead of truly creating. #INeLearn

R1 Many of my Ss are reluctant to take risks - they are concerned about right answers #inelearn
  • keshiaseitz - Moderator Nov 2 @ 9:12 PM EDT
I wonder if this is because of the constraints that "school" itself places on them? Or what we as Ts expect and model? #INeLearn
    In reply to @sherryngick, @gcouros
  • keshiaseitz - Moderator Nov 2 @ 9:13 PM EDT

R3 Coding teaches perseverance and problem solving. The tech is a bonus. Kids do not see it as "work." #INeLearn

Coding makes Ss think fully through a problem, it encourages collaboration, and it prepares students for future jobs. #inelearn
  • keshiaseitz - Moderator Nov 2 @ 9:26 PM EDT
R3: I like that coding puts Ss in the driver's seat...they actually get to engage in the learning...it's active! #inelearn

A3: Coding teaches a way of thinking, not just something to do on computers! #INeLearn
  • 3DChampion Nov 2 @ 9:28 PM EDT
R3: Start simple. Block coding seems easiest to grasp. People didn't really like computers until icons happened. So pretty. #INeLearn

R4; Find the hook! There can always be a connection btw coding & anything. #INeLearn
  • MrsRegruth4th Nov 2 @ 9:31 PM EDT
A4: Wow. Tough question. Teachers feel overwhelmed and out of time- it’s hard to convince some how important coding is. #inelearn
  • risky4 - Moderator Nov 2 @ 9:31 PM EDT
R4: Maybe begin with tech-less activities like flow charts to lead to coding activities with tech. #INeLearn
  • sherryngick Nov 2 @ 9:32 PM EDT
R4: All classes have the need for Ss to be able to follow directions, write clearly & concisely, & problem solve. Have Ts TRY it! #INeLearn
  • keshiaseitz - Moderator Nov 2 @ 9:33 PM EDT

@keshiaseitz yep start simple, especially with those math teachers! right? #INeLearn
  • 3DChampion Nov 2 @ 9:34 PM EDT
R4: Spheros and Ozobots at elementary level. Coding for Sphero is block, and Ozobot is just different color lines as directions. #INeLearn
  • RiskTaker4Kids Nov 2 @ 9:34 PM EDT
