Please join us for a weekly conversation about design thinking in K12 education. We will have a variety of moderators with a wide range and depth of design thinking experiences. Each week, we will connect the dots to the design thinking methodology and how it can and will play a bigger role in today’s K12 educational arena.

Let's get started!
Q1:Think abt your favorite lesson to teach; What's the topic & how was it introduced? https://t.co/xTZoHg4DDY
launching resources for Ts 5/16. San Diego. Footloose.
Good to finally be able to participate full on again!
Thanks Shauna! We got waylaid by an ice and sleet and yuck storm today; back at it tomorrow!

Howdy Ellen! I'm going to be out your way in mid-March, believe it or not.
I'd also say Anne of Green Gables the PBS movie haha
That's my parents' high school experience...
Hi ELLEN...my good design friend!!
Are you claiming you haven't been tormented, Lisa? ;P
Just walking in the door from work at 9:08 PM-exhausted, but wanting to say hello to
A1: I don't know if I have a favourite lesson to teach. I get most excited w new ideas, things that are generated by the Ss
A1: I love kicking off a new project - look through curriculum expectations w Ss, set goals, scaffold
A1: it's when I introduce Ss to their strengths - love that they realize we ALL have strengths. Boosts esteem for many.
A1 love teaching electricity Box of materials & a challenge “Get the lightbulb 2 light.” Oh U cant talk 2 partner except on paper
stay with me on this one. pick an easy "would be" topic
I'm Jamie from AR...middle school technology & first timer tonight/Short Circuit
Interesting! I'd love to hear more!
yay Eric! Now go to bed. ;)
A1 my fav way to launch is through fieldwork
An actual, legitimate vacation. Seriously. Partner and I are spending a week with Monterey as base camp
quick Q2:The intro is a form of Discovery. How can Ss KEEP TRACK of the findings? Brainstorm some ideas https://t.co/uhbZVEmxcw
Hi Eric.. please find a comfy chair, a frosty beverage, and eat some comfy food
lol well I guess you might say my approach to education IS surreal to many so maybe Frida and I are more alike
oohh ohhh can I watch the fountains?
I love this! I used to have "No talking Thursday afternoons"
Hi ! Is that your descriptive movie choice or your name for tonight's ? ;P
Can you give me an example?
A1: I love lessons that have a great hook that completely catches students off guard. Something that messes w/a misconception
introduce topic in a provocative way, let Ss explore, discover, collaborate then discuss.
Hola, Amigo! So, glad you're here!! Always better when you're here!
Q2: Visual journals are when way to quickly capture ideas.
A2 reflections are just as important as findings IMO-video blogging is my fav
like that "messes w misconception"!
A2 get in a habit capturing ideas in a way that works for them offer them choice and time
the idea is to think about ways to introduce a topic as a lead in to Discovery.
A2: Notebook (Imagineering Book - no erasing allowed), collaborative Google Doc, chart paper with sticky notes
A1 I've not DT'd it but I always loved teaching The Crucible b/c I got to intro it with "based on a true story"
A1 Introd Food Bowl - gets Ss excited when explain they will build a structure of their design and all cans donated to hungry
A2: online discussion threads, journaling, animoto or voice thread to name a few..
share some of those examples
Yesterday I saw a project with video ethnography archived with QR codes - by grade one.
A1: Currently, like I'm excited to show my indie Ss how much power they actually have by breaking down "school"
A2 I'm wondering if digital portfolios like or storytelling apps like might help Ss organize their discovery
ex. hearing a passage from a book to introduce a character study lesson
A2 I said I was going to have my Ss make their own journals/notebooks this year & didn't
This is a great way to introduce staff to new driving questions or ideas.
a2: sticky notes. Lots & lots of sticky notes
Just joining from Cambridge, MA post-kids-bedtimes and catching up on the goodness here!
story boarding is another great technique to make thinking visible.
Oh this is different and rad; I know some folks who LOVe a good QR code https://t.co/knl01jVqCu
Yesterday I saw a project with video ethnography archived with QR codes - by grade one.
I look forward to seeing them. You would love then.
Yes! Very powerful both as audience and reflective author.
Heck, now that I think about it for a half a second . . . !
A2 Valuable to give students time, space, direction to explore what note taking strategies work for them individually
you need to try 21st century note booking it's a good fit for your class and style I think!
Go2s: journal sketchbook GDoc Post-its Padlet Out of the Box: Wall of Ideas, Keeper box, Baseball Card Collector
I love this op to find out what works best
Especially them. A little cognitive dissonance goes a long way. :-)
check out 21st century notebook project!
Q3: How can Ss SHARE the connections they made w/ their discoveries? Dig a deeper w/previous brainstorm https://t.co/iYHxJ1O6Oy
A2 Lots of ways to capture discovery: sticky notes, video, pictures, sketches, infographics, flowcharts, sketchnotes, timelines
I totally do -- starting to feel that time crunch of year & figuring what I still have time to tinker with
A2 popular with Ss too - creativity + internalizing + content + concepts
