Hey Hey - good evening Coaches and welcome to the #swarmfbchat - Go ahead and say HI - follow someone new tonight! We will be executing the Chalk Talk for tonight's topic - should be a great night of sharing.
We will run this chat a bit different - we will follow a S1/A1 format for each scenario given. Please feel free to like/retweet/ask follow up questions as much as you want. Use our hashtag in all tweets #swarmfbchat
A2: if I trust my guys to lock up in man... I am bringing pressure. If I am handcuffed into playing zone or if our plan that game is to play zone I am trying to hold to the field goal. Not a fan of blitzing and playing zone that tight to goal
#swarmfbchat
I am not a huge blitzer but this is when u do. Best cover guys in man , double a gap cross pressure with DEs gettin up field tackles get to B #swarmfbchat
A1: Base four man rush. Cover 2 or 4. Box count doesn't matter because the Safeties are so close to the L.O.S. due to the compressed field. #swarmfbchat
Man - already having an issue trying to read the responses and keep up - this is some good stuff going around. Lots of guys sticking to the pressure! #swarmfbchat
A1: Inside the 10, we would most likely be man anyway, but thinking they want to keep the clock running, we will bring pressure. Either a blitz that has been successful that night, or overloading a side by bumping our NG to a side a replacing the center with a LB. #swarmfbchat
Every point matters I'm bringing pressure or stunting dline... and trying to keep them out of the end zone... I tell our guys all season defense on the field to win / lose the game we wouldn't want it any other way #swarmfbchat
A1: we are flexbone, ball control, so pressure and turn it up, if they have a kicker, we are small enough of a school, 27 yrd is a struggle for most teams, in that case play base. #swarmfbchat
A1) We will stick to call sheet.. based on solid data... each field zone and D&D has 3 calls, each increasing more aggressive... would probably opt for #2 call in this situation... see call sheet info here... https://t.co/P9xhuiqtC5#swarmfbchat
S2: 2:20 left; offense has no Timeouts; Up by 5; 1st & 10 at -10. How will you play this series of downs? Sit back? Planned pressure? Stay base or go nickel/dime? #swarmfbchat
5 man pressure based on their run tendencies. We're down, so they are most likely going to run. Play for 3rd to force a pass. They need to score a TD to end the game. Make'em earn it, but don't lose yourself.
#CautiousAggression | #swarmfbchat
A2) this is always tough, but I play with what got me there. Have to use what has been working.Planned pressure. Staying press man! Will have safety help playing 2 man or man free.
#swarmfbchat
Base base base. It’s what we practice the most. 1st down conservative sound call. If inc pass and 2/10 pressure cause they are def passing. Take away best recr i. That situation. 3/10 show pressure and bail. Same on 4th. #swarmfbchat
I'm bringing in an extra safety (better cover guy) man free or 2 man under start series off with some dline stunts if that doesnt get home then I'm bringing pressure... Also will fake pressure and pass drop (flair) #swarmfbchat
A2. I’m gonna keep doing what has worked to that point. Might bring some pressure early but keep an eye on their late game tendencies. I like pressure & keep Q uncomfortable.
#swarmfbchat
A2: stay base early. But be ready for anything. Offense goes hurry up you have to have reserves ready/dime package ready/ play calls for each scenario. Use your head! #swarmfbchat
S2: 2:20 left; offense has no Timeouts; Up by 5; 1st & 10 at -10. How will you play this series of downs? Sit back? Planned pressure? Stay base or go nickel/dime? #swarmfbchat
Up by 5, they are going to pass (especially w/ 90yds to go). Prevent prevents you from winning - stay base. Loosen the secondary to the sticks & use a 5-man pressure to attack their pass pro. Base out of Ni, so that's not an issue. Don't over think it or "sell out." #swarmfbchat
S2: 2:20 left; offense has no Timeouts; Up by 5; 1st & 10 at -10. How will you play this series of downs? Sit back? Planned pressure? Stay base or go nickel/dime? #swarmfbchat
S2 -10 through -20 I’m bringing zone pressure. 3rd down I’m playing for screen/draw so will most likely play base. They wont throw -20 on going to with gameplay pressures based on spot of ball. Will play some sort of cov 2 #swarmfbchat
A1). Personally, I am playing for a FG attempt. Lots can happen in a HS game with a snapper/holder/kicker. Plus I will have a mother of a block coming on 4th down to make it worse for them #swarmfbchat
A2: make them earn it, be under control. Can the OL pass block or can we get pressure with 4? Can the QB throw a deep ball, then sit back and play the ball. #swarmfbchat
A2: use what has worked. They will try to get the ball to their dudes. Do what you’ve repped in preparation for that. Adjust and adapt if they move the ball. #swarmfbchat
A2: Go Nickel. Replace my SAM with a DB, and the Sam replaces a DL and puts his hand in the dirt and rushes. We play Two man and vary between a three man rush and a four man bringing one of the ILB's. #Swarmfbchat
A2: make them earn it, be under control. Can the OL pass block or can we get pressure with 4? Can the QB throw a deep ball, then sit back and play the ball. #swarmfbchat
A2: We will be in Nickel, but normal pressures and game plan. We never let up until up by 11 or more in this situation. A lot can happen in 2:20. Keep our foot on the gas. #swarmfbchat
A2). Since the offense can stretch a defense more vertically (110 yards) than horizontally (53 1/3 yards), I would bring in an extra dB, lose a dt and play 4over 4under not let anything behind me or to the sidelines and let my three down eat #swarmfbchat
A2: Know your opponentand what they do in pressure situations. Also, know their best plays and how you will defend their playmaker. Practice those situations so they aren’t a shock when you are in them! #swarmfbchat
S3: Tie Game; 3:00 left; 3rd & 5 at +30. Team is 70/30 run to pass; threw it on last 3rd & 6. Strategy here? How you going to play this snap? #swarmfbchat
A2: Going to stay babe but mix in cover 4 and Tampa 2. Start in 3 front and bring one from depth for 4 man rush or rush 3. Will stunt a little as well. Biggest key is tackle inbounds and be slow getting up and not help other team up #swarmfbchat
A3). Going by call sheet. Unless they have a kid that can kick like Dempsey, they are in 2 down territory. Playing for 4th down to put pressure on them. 70/30 is a pretty high tendency. #swarmfbchat
A3: This is a feel of the game question. We blitz a lot on 3 and Med, so I might try baiting a throw by showing man and a blitz and then bailing into our Cover 2 and have LB drop to Rob. Means we are single gap up front, no pressure. #swarmfbchat
A3) We figure anything over 66% significant... probably would stick to call sheet which would more than likely be a call good against the run they have shown in this D&D... but we have no BAD calls on call sheet! #swarmfbchat
Probably use some sort of line movement to counteract any run, but will double as a pass stunt. Keeps you in coverage vs pass, but won't let the OL climb if run. Best of both worlds. In mid-range D&Ds you don't need to over think it. Gotta have flexible/duo calls. #swarmfbchat
S3: Tie Game; 3:00 left; 3rd & 5 at +30. Team is 70/30 run to pass; threw it on last 3rd & 6. Strategy here? How you going to play this snap? #swarmfbchat
A2: Have to create plays and stops. Their gonna play reserved. So, we need run blitzes with coverage over top. Cover 4 with role concepts for bubble/alley. #swarmfbchat
S2: 2:20 left; offense has no Timeouts; Up by 5; 1st & 10 at -10. How will you play this series of downs? Sit back? Planned pressure? Stay base or go nickel/dime? #swarmfbchat
A3: Bear front. Five man rush with the two outside guys containing with Cover 1 behind it. If they go 2x2 our Buck ILB will adjust to the formation and lock up a slot or Tight. #Swarmfbchat
They’re def goin for it on 4th so play it like 2nd down and medium. Tough call based on d strength and o strength / weakness. Stop run and hope to have 4th down. #swarmfbchat
A2) we would play our speed group up front with 4 pass rushers. If we could get pressure w/o blitzing we would play our base with deeper drops. Once we got them in unfavorable D+D we would change it up and go dime and play a man with three deep
#swarmfbchat#playwithanEdge
A3: In a perfect world, disguise coverage to give QB different look. If pass, most HS QBs are hitting their go-to guy in this scenario. Utilize 4 best pass rushers with some twist action. But, like any scenario, know tendencies and call patterns from O. #swarmfbchat
A3: Two thoughts I’d have. Play base and play for 4th down or bringing 5 man pressure from boundary from depth. Look to knock to them 4th and long where we can play base. Either way if they run two plays (3rd then 4th down) these two calls are being made #swarmfbchat
A4 most likely 2 down territory for them. Check call/tendency sheets and stick with it. Offense is calling its best plays... most likely scouting leads you to the call. Possibly turn it up on 4th down depending on distance
#swarmfbchat
S4: 13 seconds left in game: Up by 3; ball at +25 - they have a kid who can make it from 35. They have a timeout. What will you do defensively - pressure? Base? Are you thinking pass vs run? #swarmfbchat
If it's really heave pass, or they have some studs (or district this year), we'll go to our Dime. I still like a 4-down rush, especially vs a running QB. Keep contain & press the point. #swarmfbchat
A3. If team is 70/30 run on 3rd and 5 situation then I'm playing to stop the run, trust what you see on film, have guys ready for P.A. Slant 4 down line to run heavy side and bring OLB on same side every gap accounted for have my blitzing OLB check run to pass
#swarmfbchat
A2: hmmm we still in the war we coming out putting heat on them if I go zone I’ll play 3 match and rotate sending will and Sam. I’ll have Safety replacing either one or I’ll get funky and go 2 send corner and have the will jump flat. 😤#swarmfbchat
S2: 2:20 left; offense has no Timeouts; Up by 5; 1st & 10 at -10. How will you play this series of downs? Sit back? Planned pressure? Stay base or go nickel/dime? #swarmfbchat
A4: play normal defense. Our offense will win OT, and just because he's made FG, doesn't mean he's made it with pressure on, don't assume, play good defense based on tendency and gut #swarmfbchat
A4: man off combo coverage on the outside bringing boundary pressure and committing to stopping the run
If they make a play to beat us Its gonna be in the pass game with pressure in the QBs face
#swarmfbchat@rmacblue
A4: We will be in our normal game calls at this point only up by 3. Stick to the game plan. FG's are not a given. They can do anything; spot ball for kick, take a shot, just try to gain yards, so don't guess. Stick to preparation. #swarmfbchat
A4: Going with base call, maybe a run stunt, expecting them to run ball, set up in middle of field and call timeout at 3 secs to kick it. But wanting to stay sound in case they do throw in the back half. Force them to kick it and tie it up. #swarmfbchat
They are centering up the ball to tie. They are dumb to pass. Play base & gang tackle! 2nd man strips. Keep the RB up, but don't let him break loose - situational football. Nothing cheap! #swarmfbchat
S4: 13 seconds left in game: Up by 3; ball at +25 - they have a kid who can make it from 35. They have a timeout. What will you do defensively - pressure? Base? Are you thinking pass vs run? #swarmfbchat
A4) best base call against run... maybe first level stunt ... solid coverage call... not much difference between gain of 5 and gain of 10 but don't give up the #bighammer#swarmfbchat
A4: Everything is in play here for the offense. Could be a run or pass, so play base defense. Be smart and don’t give up a cheap one. Make the kicker step up in the clutch. #Swarmfbchat
A4). Assuming it is not 4th down, I am probably bringing the house. They are going to run the ball to set up hash/middle for the kicker. Going to try to push them back a couple and not let a kid get to his comfort zone. Again, my block will be legit on 4th down. #swarmfbchat
A4: If I am on O, I'm running a base run to middle of the field to set up a kick. On the flip side, stop run. Tackle! Then prep to refocus guys for a possible OT. #swarmfbchat
A3: tough scenario...blitz and get a loss you’re a hero, blitz and give up a first you look like a fool... I’m going base and tightening my safety up. #swarmfbchat
A4 they need 10 yards for kick attempt. Thinking something quick as slant, sprint out. Play scout report and bring heat off that edge with slant. Replace with LB or Safety
#swarmfbchat
A4: Play Nickel with SAM putting his hand in the dirt and an extra DB coming on the field for a DL. Play cover two lock, take away the inside on #1 to both sides. Rush three with the two outside rushers containing the QB. Tell my guys make the tackle in bounds. #swarmfbchat
S5: You are playing AWAY. Your OFFENSE is on the field about to make it a 49-47 game with 1:25 left. What are you telling your defense on the sideline? Are you asking your offense to slow it down if they are inside the 10?5?3? How do you approach the final drive? #swarmfbchat
A5: we obviously aren't stopping them so I am kindly asking our play caller to score as late as possible. Then I'm playing deep off cover 3 and my dline is pinning their ears back and getting us the hell out of there
#swarmfbchat
A5: We are talking about the situation and tackling ball carrier inbounds, slow getting up after tackle and what calls to expect. Tell them to be ready for hurry up and intermediate passes. #swarmfbchat
Tell your OC to slow it down!!! 😂😂😂 - I'm looking at my DBs & telling them to communicate & lock it up. They're gonna be throwing it. LBs, make the call, get us lined up. DL, fight. Get to the QB. Get your hands on him. We only need one stop - DYJ (Do Your Job).
Is this #swarmfbchat in relation to 4-2-5 defense or anything in particular? Seeing a lot of situational responses due to tonight’s questions. What’s the sort of overarching umbrella of this specific chat each week?
A3) We probably would have blitzed a ton previously. With that in mind we would have our dance call on, faking six man pressure and man press. Hopefully they woulbuy it and run a screen/draw or something quick into our base coverage.
#swarmfbchat#playwithanEdge
A5). Just score baby. Don’t lose the juice trying to milk the clock. These are HS kids; too many variables to risk the points. KO coverage is huge and the d better be men about the situation. However, keep them loose. Nothing worse than 11 teens with puckered holes #swarmfbchat
A5: I tell the offense don't worry about us. Just do what you need to do at the pace you're comfortable at. If we can't get a stop with the opposing offense getting the ball under 1:25, then we don't deserve to win. #swarmfbchat
A5. I’m gonna tell my D to lay their ears back & continue to play fast, play hard, and stay aggressive. Keep the presssure on their O.
That I believe in them finishing the game and Go win.
#swarmfbchat
A5: Well, since most of my D would be on the field playing O, I wouldn't be saying much to them, yet! Love to score as late as possible, but in the end, just score. D - do your job. #swarmfbchat
A5: Offense's job is to score, don't mess with that. Giving up 47, I was fired at half, but my asst would say the O is going to go back to the well with big plays they used to score 47. Set up to defend what has hurt us the most. Winners step up in these moments. #swarmfbchat
S4: 13 seconds left in game: Up by 3; ball at +25 - they have a kid who can make it from 35. They have a timeout. What will you do defensively - pressure? Base? Are you thinking pass vs run? #swarmfbchat
A5 (cont.): That'd be some chutzpah by me to tell the OC how to run the O, while my unit has given up 47 points. That's between the OC and Head Coach. #swarmfbchat
A5: well since 8 of my defensive players are on the field and then flipping to kickoff. All I got is a quick “let’s going end this thing right here!” Oh the joys of low #s in 1A ball haha #swarmfbchat
A5 I am telling them that this is why you lifted all those weights in February!!! We are kicking it into the end zone, tackling inbounds and stopping their top passes with our best "Mustang" DL. They will have to drive it slowly down the field, no big plays.
A4: they going run if they got a time out and pass it to the boundary if they have zero time out so bubble or out or hitch so cover 2 hard squat the call sending will back to B and a strong side slant by DL #swarmfbchat
S4: 13 seconds left in game: Up by 3; ball at +25 - they have a kid who can make it from 35. They have a timeout. What will you do defensively - pressure? Base? Are you thinking pass vs run? #swarmfbchat
A5: Since I’m the OC I will milk as much time as I can! Haha. First have to talk to kickoff team about great coverage. Talk to Defense about what routes to expect and have them gang tackle and fly to the ball! Also watch for double moves. #swarmfbchat
A4) we would pressure here and force them to throw something quick and tackle it right and the kids range. If we get beat by a kicker at the end of game with a 35 yarder so be it. I don’t see most Hs kickers getting that one.
#swarmfbchat#playwithanedge
As always - it was a pleasure bringing you tonight's #swarmfbchat I really enjoyed reading the responses! Heck of a turnout and sharing was excellent. Thanks for joining in coaches!
Like I said, I don't think the will run. I'd rather play base, fit aggressively & try to strip the ball. I'm trying to run the clock down. Force them to use a TO & guess to try & take a shot. The scenario doesn't say D&D. I'm assuming it's not 3rd. #swarmfbchat
A5: telling my guys this is the moment we live for all we got to do is get one stop than we dancing on there field! Telling the offense to take as much time as they can and we will do the rest #swarmfbchat
