Today I was watching my schoolies playing and loved that they were really using their imagination during their play outside
-
-
Wow!! Yay!! Hello!! It's been so long! How are you??!
-
Hi Nicola - any contributions always welcome.
-
-
Very well over here! Working on a paper mache project!!
-
It was so cold over here today we had to go inside after an hour to defrost some of the children!
-

-
hee hee!! Don't, I'm already itching to set up a tapestry account!!!
-
Bonjour Γ tous les amis enseignants de la petite enfance de la France lΓ -bas ce soir!
-
Anyone else find that one group creates 'their' space, then moves on & the next group doesn't connect with the space in same way
-
thank you lovely!!! Yes it's been a busy one!!
-
I love love love painting stones!!!
-
We have a "famous person" coming to our school- a poet- so we are making her a present! :)
-
hah! Aww it's lovely news! I am so unbelievably broody at the moment but have to finish degree first!
-
I think this is a lovely way to build up ownership, you can add stones each year etc.
-
-
love these! Rocks have a lovely sensory appeal as well, our children are attached to their name rocks.
-
yes I find this in our garden it doesn't always have same importance that first children put on it
-
Agreed. As a child I often liked to find a really smooth stone/ pebble. Something soothing about it
-
ooooo name rocks haven't thought about those??!!! Maybe a good idea for next lot!
-
-
Sometimes all it takes is for the new group to add something like a new layer of paint or plants to feel it's theirs
-
Yay πππππππ putting on my 'surprised' face ππfab news
-
We call them rock babies - like bottle babies!
-
Children can be very territorial too about areas they have created. Unsure whether to allow others in
-
-
-
My class at moment are really bad at putting things back & then they complain when they can't find 'their' stick etc!
-
we've used the mosaic approach to find out more about how the children view their surroundings 1/2
-
2/2 often different to what the adults perceive as 'inviting'.
-
-
true, children are not really bothered about it all looking pretty etc. they like it to be 'useful'
-
yes they like to be able to make things have a use in their play.
-
ah that hot potato! no I mean just dropping things as they finish with them etc. Tidy up time is like a treasure hunt
-
I had camo netting over the mud kitchen which I thought looked great but I was reliably informed that it was 'annoying'
-
Oh they can be so brutally honest!
-
haaaa- they do tell the truth so well, don't they!? :) haaa
-
Today children were playing with hoops blue hoop was police car yellow hoop was baddie!!
-
haha yes we have this too some of our children literally fling it over their head when finished! We're like eh no!
-
also when we created a water system on the climbing frame and days later 'can we clear all that off now?'
-
Exactly! I have a class of transporters this year too.
-
oh dear, good job we have thick skins huh?
-
I always have loads of transporters!
-
We've been sanding, pulling off "fibers" off our sticks- we wet them, made a pulp which now we are rolling, pressing and drying
-
have to have for sure!! :)
-
I am devastated that this class don't interact with the Bottle babies at all or Bear Woods - they really dislike it.
-
-
yes transporters are very interesting to watch we find they do it more inside though.
-
Neighbor kid came to play at my moms years ago- got into dollhouse, told my mom "you can go now"
-
-
transporters = children who have the transporting schema. Like to carry toys etc around with them
-
Sometimes find that with different age grow sharing same space too- 3's and 5's very diff!
-
that is interesting ours are more obvious outside - or are better at putting it back inside!
-
wow it's funny eh the things some children love others find uninteresting and not challenging enough
-
each group is totally unique and tends to gravitate towards different things- always amazes me!!
-
I'm sure I would love your bottle babies and bear woods maybe I should come!
-
yeah we just had to accept they are happy in the playground & don't want to leave it to go to BW
-
I instantly recognize the behavior but have NEVER ONCE heard that described in US?! Wow!! Looking up more info
-
Heehee! Hoping they'll embrace it more in the 'warmer' weather - if we get any!
-
Ha a bit of choose it, use it, put it away πthey're far too busy learning for tidying faff!
-
Oh you will love researching all about schemas - you could get lost for ages!
-
-
it's a schema it's a trait that some children will have & keep repeating until they worked through their interest
-
Really am totally amazed!! Know exactly the behaviors but wow-have never heard this term before!!
-
tbh, I was only introduced to them through the manager of my prev nursery. No-one had ever mentioned b4
-
Honestly there is so much great stuff on them & you will start looking at ch so differently!
-
ours use every area to hide things in bags and boxes perhaps it indicate ms we need more loose parts outside
-
haha that's the exact page I found- love the naming of those repeated behaviors- YES!! WOW!!!
-
it's so important! Without the knowledge - adults may get frustrated at certain behaviours
-
-
I find it takes a while of them asking 'can I move this, paint this etc. for them to buy into the space as it being theirs.
-
Exactly! Once you can see why it's much easier to understand & actually appreciate it.
-
spot the schema is a great booklet to explain all the aspects wrote it loved it
-
will take a look! Thanks :)
-
I find it easier to observe schemas outdoors - they seem more in depth in them in our playground if that makes sense?
-
yes I agree but once they catch on that that it's theirs they move everything to suit their play better! It's great!
-
RT spot the schema is a great booklet to explain all aspects wrote it loved it
-
I find it so interesting how children can behave and PLAY so differently outdoors compared to indoors
-
And they always come up with so many different ways to use the same thing in various ways.
-
Oh indeed, it can be like 2 different children sometimes.
-
I knew *need* of carrying little things around but never thought of it like this-LOVE!
-
me too that's why I love outdoors so many more possibilities for all children
-
Wait until you read all about enveloping!
-
I love this about children their imaginations never fail to amaze me! I wish I could see things the way a child does!
-
Love those "Eureka" moments :D
-
NEVER would have thought of the endless taping as extension of peek-a-boo- WOW
-
It's been too long for me and this is just FANTASTIC!!! LOVE IT
-
I think our jobs are the next best thing - we do get to see it everyday & sometimes we are allowed to join in too
-
oh now actually this is a good question haha name your favourite schema!
-
oh me too! And to just be totally free to play! Growing up is rubbish :( (30 next year - boohoo!!)
-
Ah you're still a young thing - try being 4 years away from 50! This job keeps me young - I hope!
-
Enclosure!! I love dens and making hidey-spaces
-
-
-
-
mine for sure is transformation. Mud pies, food being changed I def had this when I was little
-
-
I think it is so important to cater for all schemas in your outdoor space.
-
-
Having spaces that allow children to add to them, move them about & make them theirs allows them to engage with the space
-
And I think it's important we don't over plan - the children need to feel they have had a say in how the space feels.
-
no problem! Great resource!
-
How do you encourage chn to make choices and decisions about they set up of a space?
-
Just shared w my colleagues! Great!!!
-
RT And I think it's important we don't over plan -children need to feel they have had a say in how the space feels.
-
Initially it does take an adult to show them the possibilities but then they begin to take charge.
-
Great resource!! Thank you1!
-
Ah, so modelling and then taking a step back.
-
we ensure that everyday the area is blank space full of large movable items to encourage children to change it
-
