What was the highlight of your day?
Mine is going to be sharing link w/ you to questions for Saturday morning's chat w/ our guest authors. https://t.co/nUuS9aDVQ5 Their interview w/ @jethrojones is also here https://t.co/tFlw48qgnU Great connection to their book! 📚 #ohedchat
A1 Every day is a puzzle. The reality is that school consumes administrators. Even when we are not at school, we are at school.
Constant struggle to disengage.
#ohedchat
I'm in my first year as a consultant & coordinator--more administrative in nature, and I'm finding that, too. Even when I say I'm going to "unplug," I don't. It's a challenge! #ohedchat
A1for me it is all about being organized. My children are grown, I’ve taught 34 years, still working on balance. You hVe to be really thoughtful about what you want to spend your time on. Whatever you decide to spend time on needs to feed you! #ohedchat
Part of me loves this idea, and part of me wonders how I'll get all of it done if I don't send that email at 8:30 PM. Have you always done this, or is it a recent thing? How do others receive it/view it? #ohedchat
A1: Family has always been the most important...everything else is secondary. By example modeling for my family nurturing myself. Unfortunately on the job...we are all replaceable. Remember what matters. #ohedchat
Last fall I blocked off one weekend with "cleaning the basement," not because we were going to clean, but just so no one would schedule anything for that weekend. (It failed--hubby scheduled something anyway, because he didn't want to clean!) #ohedchat
A1: set time frames & hold yourself accountable. If you bring home work do it when the kids are in bed or only allow a short time to work because it will there tomorrow.Balance & health boil down to accountability to yourself & in this case others who care about you.
#OhEdChat
A1: as a principal always do things that get in the way of staff being efficient with their time first, as Twain said eat a frog for breakfast 🍳 🐸#OhEdChat
Not always. I used a few ways to come to this. Staff surveys gave me feedback and simply, I asked. Staff has appreciated the balance. And most of all, my family missed my presence at home. I had to be a better me, for me, for them. #ohedchat
That's awesome! Love it. I'm doing more reading, too. Also trying to take at least a few minutes a day for crafting/creating. That recharges me. #ohedchat
I read a book a few years ago called "Eat That Frog"--same kind of idea. Tackle the thing that you want to put off to last, first. Get it done and out of the way. #ohedchat
I am, too. It really is a challenge. So many I respect in education have advised me to use my "yes" wisely. I'm a people-pleaser, so telling someone "no" bothers me! #ohedchat
Hello! I’ve been missing this too much not to hop in this week, even if I’m a bit late!
Chris from Columbus, Ohio. 2nd grade intervention specialist. I’m excited to learn from you all tonight. #OhEdChat
A2: it's selfishness for me. I think what I do is more important than living in the moment. People have said it already but it can wait until tomorrow or later in the evening.
#ohedchat
A2. Not really understanding what success is. Now I recognize success is directing how much time I will spend on thoughts, conversations and my actions! #OHedchat
A2: Sometimes the “task @ hand” is enormous...we (I say ‘we’ my daughters say, “Why do you say, ‘we’, dad did all the work!” laid Pergo flooring throughout our entire house..pulling up the carpeting, painting rooms, all while working full time. #ohedchat
What helps is that I love my job, love my school, love my students, and love the challenges that each day bring.
But balance?? ==> I'm not that good at. #ohedchat
So maybe the trick is to step it down? Do you suppose we could get to @Vroom6 's approach if we started setting limits--no emailing after 8:00 PM, to start? Then back it to 7:00? #ohedchat

Q2: The struggle to “turn it off.” Sometimes it means going to the gym or taking a walk instead of plugging away at an IEP. Sometimes just turning the page mentally.
Mostly it means finding rhythms that work best for you (and it’ll look different for everyone)! #ohedchat
a2: When you have a supportive wife and family who understand your passion, the balance between work and personal is much easier. I give them all the credit #ohedchat
That's me, too. I love what I do, and I know that when I'm supported my teachers 100%, that also helps support the students they're working with daily. But I can't be at 100% if I'm pushing myself to exhaustion. #ohedchat

Agree @cj_williams13. Looking forward to schedule more regular outside activity once the season of nor'easters has diminished and kinder temps return to New England. #ohedchat

I know what you mean. My husband has been amazingly supportive this year . . . new position, taking grad classes . . . it's been intense at times, and he's been 100% behind me. #ohedchat
A3: when out socially with other peoplesucators we have negative sanctions for work related talk, have to actively turn it off. Also daily workouts help with sleep and energy levels. Lastly reading for pleasure at every opportunity never hurts. #OhEdChat
A2: I always find myself in a cycle of "continuous improvement"...stressing over the minute details. Sometimes they don't matter and I need to learn to "let it go" (in my Elsa voice). Still working on my #balance#ohedchat
A3: For me, a consistent schedule is everything. It helps you say “yes” or “no” when it’s most appropriate and necessary. Exercise and reading for joy, too. When one healthy rhythm is clicking they all seem to fall in line together. And there’s time for leisure/fun. #OhEdChat
It took time, balance and communication. Have to encourage a change in behaviors in others. Building capacity helps, promoting F2F, being accessible. #ohedchat
A3: listen. People in your life will let you know. Sometimes it takes multiple tries but it becomes clear.
In a house full of woman you better listen.
#ohedchat
A3. A calendar book! Where I can write in all activities of myself, 2 children , and husband! Keep everything balenced with everyone's scheduled from work, school, extra-curricular, etc. #ohedchat
A3: read for pleasure, workout, have real conversations with colleagues that are not related to the art and science of the craft, tough but worth it #OhEdChat
Yes...sometimes I share with my family I am unplugging this weekend..I am all yours...Like an addiction I struggle not to check tweets, email etc LOL! #ohedchat
I think I need to be more patient with myself--I'm not going to get this all figured out perfectly in the first six months . . . eight months . . . year. But I'm getting better! #ohedchat
A1 - no school work on the weekend. Family time only. Sunday night to do list for the week. Only do school work after the kids are in bed. It helps that my wife is a teacher as well. #ohedchat
Really, thank you! A game changer in how I approach my day with my students and staff and of course, the parents of my students. And, as a parent with my own children. I am a better dad and a better school leader. #grateful#ohedchat
A2 after school events, meetings, activities are a main deterrent in maintaining work life balance. Wife and I plan ahead before the week begins so we can find night(s) to be at home as a family. #ohedchat
A3- monthly calendar in the kitchen of after school events from now until the end of the school year. This helps when scheduling IEP meetings to make sure I don’t have to pick up the kids if my wife is unable. Schedule a family game night. We ❤️ it. #ohedchat
