#Edchat is a hashtag, a movement—it is a weekly organized Twitter discussion of educators and people interested in education that meet virtually from all over the world. #Edchat serves as a conversation thread on Twitter and is also used for organized weekly discussions.
I cannot stress enough the importance of a project debrief after a student showcase- gives both Ss + Ts opportunity to reflect on what went well, what didn't, and how projects can be improved for next time. So valuable! ❤ #edchat
When responsibility for learning and teaching is shared by students and teachers then the performance of both improves... make shared responsibility the focus... rather than centering on students OR teachers. #edchat
Absolutely love this! I'm also an advocate of content cocreation between teachers and students and the broader community. Social media & tech make it possible to break down the classroom walls. #EdChat
Simple: Sit down and stop talking. Take an entire class period (or two) and have the Ss brainstorm what they’re passionate about, and turn it into a project. They drive all decisions and you (the teacher) simply remove obstacles. It takes a leap of faith, but one well worth it.
A1: In order to move from a teacher-centered to student centered classroom, we must get away from the "sit and get" where students are sponges absorbing and allow them the opportunity to engage in active learning strategies that sparks curiosity and inquiry. #edchat
When must stop to think about whether to student center or teacher center... you miss the point. Center on learning. That's the essential focus of education... #edchat
Lecture and direct instruction are not student centered learning, yet they are probably the dominant strategies for lessons used in our edu system. #Edchat
Anyone else who works in low performing school with little to no parent involvement find it EXTREMELY hard to move a place where student learning is more supported rather than directed every minute of the class period? #edchat
How often do our routine behavior management strategies work for those difficult Ss we all have? Does having a stern talking to in the principal's office help?
Unfortunately, many of our approaches are ineffective. What do you do that works? Share your ideas!
#edchat
Another great way is to allow students the opportunity to run your classroom Twitter and Facebook pages. Give them the opportunity to report what you are learning and share student artifacts! There is nothing more powerful to spark conversations at home! #empower#edchat
Schools should attack VAM validity and testing validity at the root but instead they buy into it, preferring to think it's an island of safety. #edchat

Yes. But tech is not always available. Research is very difficult. Thinking outside of their own immediate lives is hard for any middle schooler let alone ones confined by low skill and poverty. It’s really the resilience thing that is more of an impediment to a project #edchat
Student centered clsrms are more fluid & flexible, not focused on getting thru “material” or curriculum, best lesson can be unplanned lesson, one that meets the needs of the students, those teachable moments #edchat

Thanks for hosting @ShiftParadigm! This is a great topic. It's difficult for teachers to give up control -- it's the most rewarding process. Students deserve a voice and control over their learning. Look at it as collaborative partners not traditional the teacher/student. #edchat

I guve some relevant maths, some spelling, some reading comp/grammar and a fun quiz + the reading. What I'd prefer is the parents and Ss spending time together, playing outside, doing a puzzle, just enjoying each others company #pstchat#edutweetoz#EdChat
#edchat Agency and Autonomy are the heart of learner centered classrooms. Choice is essential. Learner centered classrooms offer Ss opportunities to make choices on pace, path, and place. #wvedchat

As a student teacher on my first prac, the front on the classroom to me was my comfort zone! And security blanket!, until I got more confident as the time went on then I found roaming a great way to teach. #edchat#edutweetoz#pstchat#pstchatwa#education
