Hi #tlap! Annick, gr 1 French immersion teacher in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Super excited to be co-hosting with my BFF, @nycoldidcote tonight! 2018 was a roller coaster ride! Highs, lows, joy, sadness, and every other emotion under the sun!
Hi #tlap! Fun fact- Life of crutches is 13 wks. Second time around, and they lasted the same amount of time. That’s ok. My hamstrings (almost) fired today so. yeah. Be jealous- it’s ok. I would be too. I teach 6th grade sci in PA. #deservesanaward#soontobethepeglesslegpirate
Tara - Educator, national speaker, author of Be REAL and one of my fave roles...the face behind the media & communication creations for @dbc_inc...from Kansas!! #tlap
Sliding in a little late...but stoked to support @AnnickRauch & @nycoldidcote !
A1 One of my favourite memories from 2018 was our huge 3D community project. Three gr 1 & 1/2 classes collaborated to answer "what makes a good community?" and built their own! When left to their creativity, they will amaze you! Read about it here: https://t.co/zDJ8gNXaJb#tlap
A2: Getting my sweet puppy this year is by far a wonderful memory! She’s taught me a lot about patience and how to apply that patience into my classroom. #TLAP
A1 #tlap
My summer #MDASTEM training in VA was a highlight. I saw lots of cool things,, like the inside of a naval ship, and got to have lunch with @MrPStrunk and his lovely wife @LBStrunk!
This can be taken in so many ways! I look at this as...holy crap what a hot mess while riding a unicyle on a tightrope through a ring of fire over a pool of piranhas! #tlap
A1: Favorite memory of 2018 was seeing our faculty start several student clubs that showcase the remarkable talent of students we might have otherwise missed #tlap
A1: My fav memory is dev a reading community in my class which revolves around reading for pleasure & helping reluctant readers find books they WANT to read. Also, growing our professional library at school with awesome @dbc_inc books that Ts WANT to read! #tlap#TLAPdownunder
Favorite memory of 2018 was us welcoming our son into the world. I don’t even know how it’s possible but he is better than our first (who was excellent)! #tlap
A1 If we are talking overall it’s, on a whim, picking up #tlap and all it unlocked for me. If it’s school year it’s the kids changing their hallway walk patterns to give me a fist bump everyday #tlap
A1: Not a school memory, but a family memory. My boys are 7 and 9 and I had a rough day with them, just chaos. I thought the day went horrible. I asked the boys how the day went and they said amazing! It was all about perspective. They taught me a life lesson.
#tlap
A1: Rube Goldberg machines stand out. Also first day of school when I dressed up as t- Rex for our welcome back in-service. And the superint. Gave me the mic to sing. Nobody ever gives me the mic anymore!!! 😂😂😂 most people learn their lesson. Think he did too that day. #tlap
A1:
Personal- the first time my daughter said “I love you!” She’s four and has developmental delay. I was over the moon! Professional- I loved getting to finish out my second year with a special group of kids. ♥️ #tlap
A1: Yeah - so this one is easy. Definitely seeing @burgessdave's keynote (twice). Second time was much, much better but I think it's bc I was thinking faster & could keep up better, haha!
#tlap
#TLAP Joining from Maine. Kindergarten-2 mixed age class. A1. Memory- I organized a beach clean up @ a local piece of shoreline. As a school we removed 600 lbs of trash! Yes- mostly plastic. All ages working together was AMAZING

A1: Sharing a picture of my partner & I during the first week of school in front of the whole class while introducing "Get to know me" presentations! Stands out b/c I can't expect Ss to share things with me if I'm closeted (no pun intended) #tlap
A1 Seriously so many favorites! I am just proud of all the work the Ts and Ss are doing. The staff are willing to try new things, learn new ways, and allow Ss the opportunity to learn in a way that is fitting for them! Proud of Peine Ridge! #peinepride#TLAP
#tlap A1 changing the computer lab from 1999 to a tech lab not quite 2018 but getting there. Open seating, Coding opportunities, and reflection reflection did i say that twice!

A1: feel like this is a super hard question! I had so many great moments. Professionally, I completed my Diploma in Inclusive Ed this year (that took a long time with a family) and I'm so proud of some of the amazing makerspace creations we have done this year. #tlap

A1: Tough to pick just 1..but I'll try. I was with my husband in NZ. It was our first time there, and we went on a hike. There was a sign pointing towards a lookout point. The sign said nothing about sheep. But, we rounded a corner and found a huge field of them. #tlap
Oh I had *SO* much fun doing that, Andrea! You are so stinking creative! I never would've thought to put that in the magazine/book form like you did! #tlap#TalkToMe#DBC50Summer#DBCBookBlogs
Moving into our new home. We were ale to see it from start to finish because we designed it, and helped on parts. It was a very stressful, memorable, and well worth it! #TLAP
A1: Dude! Way to start the night off with a hard one.... leading #TLAP was awesome, seeing my youngest kid turn 1, or my oldest having so much success in kindergarten.... I can’t decide, it’s been a GREAT year honestly!
This special crew accepted my crazy and made me better. When we find people like that we need to hold onto them & every second we get together. Thank you @cbasile for the beautiful ornaments-you’re so thoughtful AND talented!😊☠️💜 #masscuecrew#tlap#leadlap#leadlapmass

A1: So many things....fist bump Friday’s,House council elections with co-runners, and implementing the treat trolley that’s ran by our @PollyRyonMS Life Skills class! #thebest#inclusionrocks#tlap
A2: Last year was a bit of a tough year and seeing the progress my Ss made was a huge accomplishment. Plus, also like I mentioned in A1, finishing a Diploma. #TLAP
A2:
It's a partial accomplishment or shall I say a work in progress. I started my second masters to obtain my administration degree. Excited to be finished in June.
#tlap
A1: My favorite moment professionally has to be watching our #CAngss workgroup instructional segments begin to come to life after all the hard work creating them. #tlap

A2: Stepping out of my comfort zone in many ways. One way was starting a blog. Mainly helps me clarify my thoughts, but I've gone from keeping everything in to being a sharer-so a big leap. Also proud of pursuing my passions. #tlap#TLAPdownunderhttps://t.co/g568c8rqt9
#TLAP A2. I have rearranged my C. Room every year. This year I feel I nailed it. It’s neat, organized and has all of the learning stations that desired including a music space-Tinkering Bench, cozy reading area and Still Life Station.
A2: getting my educational leadership license while managing my own family, helping with my aging parents& trying lots of new things in my classroom #tlap
A2: Sitting still in PT. 😂 that’s accomplishment in itself. I’m a wiggler- not much of sitting still kind of girl. 😬 this might not have happened yet, but perhaps I’ll walk again in 2018. Know it will come in time, and trying to be patient. #Slowprogessisstillprogress#tlap
A2: Helping move Ts forward w/ online assessments. Went from 25% of Ts giving finals online in 2017 to 60% in 2018. Ss like it better & we get better data to work with. #tlap

Such a joy to be there in person to celebrate you and your incredible book that has inspired so many people in education! What a joyful experience that was with all of you! So many memories made! 😍 #tlap
In reply to
@TaraMartinEDU, @dbc_inc, @iste, @burgessdave, @burgess_shelley, @tishrich, @JayBilly2

A2: We were very proud to make the INC 5000 as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the nation this past year...hope to make it this coming one, too!! #tlap

#tlap Q2 accomplishments include having a vision for my program and really making it happen but also walking away from that program for a new adventure. Also finally finishing my Google L2 and Finding a personal trainer to help me tackle some fitness goals
A2 I hit an all time low last school year w/ the climate created & was in such a negative space I legit thought about walking away—I am glad I didn’t, that I clawed my way out of the darkness that befell me & rose stronger than ever before to be a beacon of positivity. #tlap
#tlap
Professionally proud to see Playing Atari out in the world; personally ECSTATIC to see my son - who is on the spectrum - apply early action to 8 colleges... and so far he's been accepted to one with a merit scholarship! #hedidit!
A2: I worked with schools around the world in creating customized, balanced literacy programs. I spoke on multiple podcasts. I accepted a position that allows me to serve as a consultant FULL-time next academic year. So many blessings! 💗💗 https://t.co/yOdarBu1WY#tlap
Howdy #tlap ~ a huge highlight this year was our #KindCoins partnership with @KidsForPeace that resulted in a playground and this Peace Garden, our serenity spot! Everybody's #kindness rock is planted to bring comfort and joy! #mindfulness
#tlap A2 accomplishments include having a vision for my program and really making it happen but also walking away from that program for a new adventure. Also finally finishing my Google L2 and Finding a personal trainer to help me tackle some fitness goals
A3: A challenge has been my 5 year old being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It's probably been the hardest thing we've ever done. We are overcoming and accepting it a day at a time. Some days are better than others. #tlap
A3 I struggled a lot with my health last Spring, and through it all, I learned and am still learning to take care of my overall health, including my mental health. I wrote about it "I am not invincible, and neither are you" https://t.co/OE3jQKtACs#tlap
Ss using “give me five” to share learning! We just started this last week! Ss began to use it to give feedback on noise level but today 2 ss used it to share learning with the class!! It’s a learning process but I’m loving this! #LearnLAP#TLAP@JayBilly2@PaulSolarz@bfes_ltps
A3: Teaching AP Research. I'm not used to teaching 'those' kids. My people are trying hard to graduate, not racking up college credits in HS. They've kept me in check and I try to keep them in check w/ their stress levels. #tlap
Q3: Biggest challenge of 2018 is teaching 4 blocks this fall without a prep. Luckily I have a great co-teacher @AndeleeEspinosa. But, it's been really tough finding the balance to be truly reflective in my practice #tlap
So much love to you and your family, Alicia! You are all so strong! One day at a time is a great mindset! Hard days prove that you are breathing! #tlap
A challenge that was thrown at me this year was getting used to a new mix of students! My whole classroom dynamic changed because the new school I’m at is much more diverse. #tlap
2018 was a challenging year personally as professionally but navigating a new job has been tough but it so ridiculously rewarding that I wouldn’t change it. #tlap
A3- Hmm I am struggling with this one. Some potholes along the way but kept moving forward. Nothing comes to mind as a challenge if that makes sense? #tlap
A3. The student walkout movement (last spring). I sat down with a few student leaders to better understand their perspectives and we developed a shared understanding. #TLAP
A3: Despite 7 amazing years as the principal @SlackwoodSchool I was transferred to a new school in the Spring. It's not something to overcome, it's just something to do. I just go and make it happen every day @bfes_ltps#tlap#hardwork
A3: Still trying. Faith in God. Being patient. Finding the right help. Doing my best and letting everything else go. Trying not to be so hard on myself when I just can’t do my best anymore. Still showing up and singing with my ss. #tlap
A3: Being talked to about my blog and how I brought current issues to the surface but then overcame it by refocusing my overall purpose of the blog #tlap
#TLAP A3. As the Asst. Director I challenged myself to be a more inclusive and engaged leader. Reaching out to Faculty to help provide a better support network.
A3: I almost lost my leg (no peg leg jokes allowed!!) and few knew about it...kept presenting. May write it up soon with gross pictures. #tlap#freakaccidentatprogram
It was such a fun episode; partnering with @prosigndesignco to start a podcast is another highlight that I'm so grateful for and about. #tlap
Tune in to #CharacterSpeaks here; new episode posts every Monday at midnight.

Seems like this is something most educators could work on! Great reminders to do the things that fill us up and now overbook! Learn to say no! :) #tlap
A3: To transition a charter school into a public school program. It’s a work in progress however we are continuing to serve the students needs and that’s what’s most important above all else! #tlap
A3: There was a lot on my plate in 2018, both personally and professionally. I was overwhelmed with unexpected challenges, both good and not so good. I learned how to say NO to less important things in order to say YES to opportunities that matter most. #tlap
A3: So many meetings...so little time on campus...working on letting go of some of the little things and boundary management...but still a work in progress. #tlap
A2: I am struggling with this question! Lots of accomplishments to be thankful for in 2018, but none would have happened if not for others supporting me along the way! #tlap
Graduating with my Masters in Differentiated Instruction from @williamjewell. It was the hardest year of my life, but I learned so much about my practice! #tlap
A3: A constant challenge is battling the self-doubt that tends to creep in. Have to stay positive & keep picking myself up after setbacks. I'm proud that I am much better at doing that now than I used to be. #tlap
A3: There was a lot on my plate in 2018, both personally and professionally. I was overwhelmed with unexpected challenges, both good and not so good. I learned how to say NO to less important things in order to say YES to opportunities that matter most. #tlap
A3: to be purposely vague: not getting something I wanted professionally at the time I wanted but know that there are lessons I learned bc of it & open to new lessons and opprtunitues even @ the unexpected forks in the road #tlap
A3: I had a bit of a challenging classroom dynamic last school year. I really found it hard to balance and I overcame by really focusing a lot on my family and creating a work/life balance. I figured out what I needed to do and I grew in ways I never imagined possible. #TLAP
A3: A beautiful challenge has been coaching in a Japanese Language and Literature class. (I do not speak Japanese.) It's been incredible to see how the skills transfer. It's all literacy. 💗💗 #tlap
A3: a challenge is continuing to sometimes walk the “rock the education boat” road alone. I just keep focused, put my nose to the ground, follow my passion & do what’s right for kids. Along the way I will continue to hopefully convince others to take the leap with me. #tlap
A3: This has been a year of changes... both good and difficult ones. I’ve learned to let go of my need to be in control of everything & am finding ways to make things work for me! #tlap
A3 Just a negative climate I had to endure that I let get to me. I started talking to a counselor, searched and started to find myself again....then found #tlap, found my tribe, and experienced a floodgate of growth w/ works of @mrmatera@TaraMartinEDU and a host of others.
A3: Being brave in 2018 was my greatest challenge! From submitting a book proposal to sending in the first draft, I was constantly encouraged and uplifted by my PLN along the way! #tlap
My daughter discovered Groove Pizza and is now up past her bedtime and I can’t even be mad because it’s the world’s dopest math problem set. STEM teachers: if you don’t know @ethanhein, know him. #tlaphttps://t.co/LKNB32AFx1
A3: We are in the middle of a HUGE redesign of education in the state of KS and my school has been tasked as one of the schools piloting new initiatives. It's exhausting, daunting, frustrating, made me want to quit multiple times, but still so rewarding. #tlap
LATE to the party. A3: We lost a former student in a terrible accident from our last year’s 105 student 8th grade class. Seeing all of our old students band together and support each other reminded me of just how important culture and community are in our schools/classrooms.#tlap
A4- I totally sound like that guy that keeps plugging his blog...not my intentions at all...but blogging and reflecting on my practices has been so helpful in my growth as an educator. #tlap
A3 Totally "belly-flopped" my first keynote in front of Captain @burgessdave !
Thankfully, I got the best tutoring afterward & now feel super confident in this new area of sharing my "why" with the world.
But that first one... yikes. I just have to giggle about it, now. #tlap
A4 I've always been an over-analyzer and my mind would keep me up at night. When I started blogging, which forced me to formulate my thoughts and reflections. I started sleeping better... this gave me a tool to reflect and analyze in a productive way. #tlap
A3: Having to tell one of my mentors that I had been granted another position in the district. It hurt for a little while. However, I know he knew that I am who I am because he pushed me to find my strengths. #tlap
Over the upcoming break I’m going to review the units of first semester and improve them for 2019-2020... What worked? Didn’t? Could work with some tweaks? Differentiation, etc... #tlap
A4: I’ve found that having someone watch you teach and give you feedback is a great way to grow. Also knowing that you always have room to improve and learn from mistakes. #tlap
A3) There were a few big goals I set that I didn’t quite make happen. I tried but fell short. I am still wiring towards them and reframed a few of them and decided what I don’t want to give up on #strong starting a confidence journal made such a difference @karagoucher#tlap
A4: one must first consider self reflection like looking in a mirror. Are you looking for self-validation that everything looks fine, or are you looking at what needs adjusting? #tlap
A3: After physically falling down 3 times during hurricane relief efforts, I was struggling with compassion fatigue and empathic distress this spring, so I decided in late May to retire from my school and move into my encore career. Miss the kids but loving the consulting! #tlap
A4: Many ways! Talking with my #PLN#PLF, and colleagues, blogging, #sketchnoting, #booksnaps, while I drive, in my sleep and when I'm awake! Reflecting always and all ways, the dots need to be connected! #tlap
A4: Stop letting others influence what I do, how I think about a particular student/situation/colleague. Don't ignore others, ackowledge their presents but brush off all the negativiy after the fact! Don't engage!! #tlap
A4: Writing is my solace. I share stories on https://t.co/5lWx2NLTvo and even though I have dozens of posts still in draft mode, reflecting through writing has always helped me see the other side of things (or pick myself up when I've fallen a bit flat!) #tlap
#TLAP a4. I reflect in blog form. At the end of each day I write in my “professional journal” with the hope of improving my teaching practice. A few of the items that deserve more thought end up becoming blog posts for the last 7 years or so.
A4 I take 15 minute at the end of each day to reflect on what has happened and how I have take. Action at the end of each week I take the topic that is nagging me the most and I blog and publish it on stickel@edublogs.org #TLAP
A4: I start by celebrating the major and minor victories (especially when pushing Kinders do what others say can’t be done). Then I feel like I am always note taking and changing little things both after and in the moment. #tlap
A4: Personal reflection is what my blog is all about https://t.co/Vzargg30GE
Reflecting on how students feel about our work together is by looking at their @PearDeck reflections & Portfolios
Just need to build in more time to do more of this! #tlap
I passed my teacher dossier in the state of NM during the spring, advancing me to a level II teaching license. More recently, a student of mine who scored below 50% on a quarterly assessment, scored advanced in his most recent quarterly assessment! #parkavetigers#tlap
A4: Key to reflection for me is hearing from my Ss in US History class about what they liked & what I can do better. I want to hear the same from Ts about PD. I know what I think, but I have too much bias. #tlap
#tlap A3 I started a new position. Went from a K-2 school I'd only been at for 3 years and was just getting comfortable in to a preK-8 school. I wouldn't say I overcame it yet but everything is a work in progress. And I mostly have a handle on MUNIS so that's a big win.
A4: Most of the time, I ask my ss. They’ll tell you. Ultimately, what matters is how they feel about what I do- not me. Sometimes have to put on my big girl tiara to hear what they have to say!!! #tlap
I got this from a friends podcast: Tired or Inspired. Tired - our science strand groupings. Solution - swap em around and start fresh. The benefits of a small campus. #tlap
A3: Working with an entirely new team and being the only returning member to third grade. The ladies I work with are amazing though and have made it a great year! @MrsValadezMB@Arriaga1st@MissGossett_MB#tlap
A4: I am constantly reflecting!! What went well? What didn’t? Why would I do different next time? I focus on how far I’ve come! My goal is to make each day better than the last! #tlap
A4: Flexibility is big for me. I found last year that some things that had worked well before didn't with this group of Ss. Reflection as I'm going and being open to changing it up was key. I also love to try new things a lot and reflection is important to future success. #TLAP
A4: I reflect by blogging, through my own #podcast and listening to others, by talking with people and seeking feedback. I also use Twitter to reflect, share, and grow.
At school, we encouraged reflection journals through the prompts on this mirror! #tlap
I reflect in different ways through blogging as the Science Lady for @middleweb and as the field editor of #Next Gen Navigator and through talking with colleagues #tlap A4
A4: Take time for reflection and self-care. Personally, I keep the Saturday Sabbath—this keeps me from running myself into the ground. Instead, I reconnect and rejuvenate spiritually, emotionally, and physically. #tlaphttps://t.co/gmNg1qtP3O
How are you having them do Portfolios? This semester we started small and created portfolios in Google Slides, but would love to hear how others create them. #tlap
A4: We have to reflect in order to understand our mistakes and how to improve. When we reflect, we make sure that we are not standing still but that we have and understanding of where we want to go next #tlap
A4 I consistently reflect on lessons—what went well/what flopped. I’ve been using a Swivl to video myself and try and get better. I look back on how I let negativity creep in and make me doubt myself. Never again. #tlap
A4: be open to feedback, know that I always have room to learn & grow. Being confident in my skills& abilities & sharing those talents , being my strongest self-advocate. Important to model the attributes I urge my school& home children to espouse. #tlap
Darren from VA, Instructional Coach, Podcaster/Blogger A4: In retrospect, before I became a coach, I wish I would have taken advantage of having coaches to have reflective conversations with someone who can pose good thoughtful questions!
#tlap
A4 I journal, look at it and see if the changes I have made have Made any impact. If not I make more changes. I also talk to my team, allow dialogue to take place- not always fun but absolutely necessary! #tlap
A4 I journal daily! Many posts cannot be published on https://t.co/mtrF4CLXQS Shoot, you guys might admit me if I did. ;)
But, I love writing. It's my BESTEST friend.
I, also, play music. It calms my mind and helps me reflect on the day. Just gives me a clear view of life. #tlap
A4: Over-thinking??? But I don't that's productive 😂 Surprisingly for someone who wouldn't call herself a writer, writing blog posts has actually help me clarify my thoughts and reflect. Also connecting w/others, & adopting @TaraMartinEDU's #Cannonball in philosophy. #tlap
A4: I write. I talk with those I trust. The best lessons have been learned through my setbacks. Today, for example, I learned that I cannot talk to Ss, listen to music, and set #BreakoutEDU locks. Oops......... #tlap
Your blogs are AWESOME! Love reading your reflections, Annick! (And our conversations are always insightful, too!) You help me learn and grow as well! #tlap
A4: I don’t do this (probably should) but a highly respected sports analyst mentioned during an interview that he has wrote a journal entry every single day since he was in college just reflecting on his day. No parameters, just starts writing. Interesting idea for all #tlap
#tlap A4 I know this matters yet I have let it slide once again. I like to blog to reflect and grow. It's definitely helped me refine my thinking and practice the past couple years but with the job change I haven't made the time. Of course, this is when I need it most of all.
A4: I think about what I needed in High School to succeed! The resources & support my teachers, coaches, and parents provided is exactly the support that I need to provide for my students. I need to fill their gaps! If you don’t know what it takes how can you provide?!#tlap
You are onto something, Darren! Sometimes my most powerful reflections are just by chatting with colleagues who can push my thinking and offer insight! #tlap
A5 My students have learning journals that we work in all year. We set Marking Period goals and do Friday Reflections. It is part of our routine to reflect on our progress. #tlap
A3: I have been sick for about a month with an upper respiratory infection of some sort after the #campfireparadise, but my #students have been amazing! If I ask for more quiet or for help with something they are kind and generous.
#tlap
#tlap everything you do and everyone you meet teaches us something. Pay attention! Do more of what felts right and much less of what does not! #gutfeelings
A5: When our students completed their Kindness Passion Projects, they had to include a reflection slide. It was so insightful to discover their takeaways as well as things they would have done differently. Those reflections are so important for next-steps! #tlap
A5: I use this #Reflection Exit slip with students and adults. The younger students can draw their reflections; older learners will write their feedback. It's as much for me as it is for them, but it's valuable for both of us! #tlap
#tlap a5 Stopping 5-10 minutes early, this is the most important part of my lesson this is how i get better. What worked, what didnot, how can we make it better. Make notes...they have great ideas!
I grew 10-feet in two hours because of YOU! I'm so grateful for that experience. I needed your bluntness, Captain! Ever grateful for you and @burgess_shelley for nurturing me and helping me become a better EDU, writer & speaker.🤗 #tlap
A4 often times my growth comes from from my being planted ... changes bring about growth. New careers, new jobs, new friends, new skills, new degrees, ... all from being planted and needing to grow. #tlap
A4: this year I have been using Google Calendar to reflect. During each day, I summarize in the notes what I did each day. I ask:
* what did I do?
* what did I not accomplish?
* how can I improve?
* how should I follow up with the days tasks. #tlap
A5: I think having our students reflect is critical. They can look back/think back and figure out how they learned from their mistakes and move on. #tlap
A5. Our teachers have students reflect on formative assessments; I do “feedback loops” once a quarter with all kids focusing on getting their feedback and acting on it #TLAP
A5: I give students the opportunity to reflect on what they learned in the last 5 minutes of class. This allows them to also learn from each other what others learned. #TLAP
A5: Little things ex=colored exit ticket folders. Red "I feel shaky" folder & green "I feel confident" https://t.co/3LCpOEv1bM decide where it goes. #tlap
#tlap I moved from one district that had no coaches, to one that did. Didn't know much of what they did. I always just collaborated on projects with them. Didn't know I could go deeper at that time...
A5: Every S in my school has created a reading goal for each quarter and is reflecting on their progress.
https://t.co/AmCovjXUR4
Also, I share my story with them & by seeing my successes & setbacks, they are empowered to reflect and grow as well. #tlap
Reflection for me and my students is ongoing. It never stops. I always encourage my students to reflect on their days, weeks, and units. Only when we reflect can we grow. #tlap
A4: Sometimes it's hard to get good feedback if people don't understand effectiveness of new/different strategies. When they come in to observe & you're playing "Find the Dirty Pinko Commie", they might not be on board right away. #tlap
A5: I love having my Ss reflect using @Flipgrid!!! It’s great to hear their thinking & allows them to also go back later & listen too! We also reflect as a class after we try something new. How do they think it went? What did they like/dislike? What could we do different? #tlap
A5. Ss can reflect in writing or verbally depending on the time constraints and discussion! They can answer writing prompts, questions, share ideas , problem solve, what if, etc. #tlap
#TLAP A5.Weekly portfolios and we have a daily Reflection time added into the schedule.A time to chat about topics decides by the students. We also spend a great deal of time Outdoors & have Sit Spots in the woods where children spend 10 mins drawing or writing in their journal
A5: I feel like in Kinder I am making them aware of their voice and the importance of it. Teaching Ss that they have to critically think and reflect is an art in itself. I hope to lay the foundation for my Ss to build on as they grow. #tlap
A5: My students reflect by writing in their gratitude journals. We reflect together about academics during individual reading, writing, and math conferences. #TLAP
A5: asking for feedback, learning how to give feedback, believing in the power of revision& #growthmindset & That none of us are there #yet! We are all working to grow& improve. #lifelonglearning#tlap
I make my reflections centered around the results/growth and next steps. It has to be personal, too. Can't get bogged down with what everyone thinks, although I do have my pirate crew for support! ☠ @traceyLtaylor@queenhoostine@miss_gomez_je#parkavetigers#tlap

My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma-bone marrow cancer- in 2017 and had his stem cell transplant in Feb of this year. Despite ongoing challenges we are facing, we always seek to find the positive blessings that surround us. #tlap
A5- I encourage my kids to have conversations about their growth and progress. I schedule one on one with my kids and we just have an unscripted real talk about where we are at and where we want to go. #tlap
A5: We use many methods of reflection, depending on the context: process journals, Google Site portfolios, @Flipgrid video reflections, reading/writing partner reflective discussions, and—of course!—conferring! https://t.co/sWLRNXxMiw#tlap
A5: I used 2 use Blogger. Ss reflected daily on their SMART Goals. I transitioned 2 Google Sites. I believe there are excellent avenues via Non-Tech (Parking Lot; 3-2-1; Write2Learn) & Tech (Flipgrid; Google Sites). Model reflection in front of ur Ss. #tlap
A5: No tests in my Modern US History class. Ss write reflections each week on what they've learned. They get better each week at writing reflections & bringing in more detail. #tlap
A5 I use “Warm Ups” at the start of class that figure out what “stuck” or just feedback to drive the day instruction. Same with “Exit Slips” at the end. I always do a “Meeting” after the warm up to discuss “what’s good?” and to reflect on learning as a class. #tlap
A5: Having the kids do a deep project/activity, then reflect. Can use protocols, etc. then... having them repeat later in the year, or do something similar. Mock trials in Sem 1 and then again Sem 2. They look forward to the opportunity to improve! #tlap
A5: Appsmash @screencastify and @flipgrid. Give every student a grid (they’re freeeee!!) have the kids make reflection videos of their work and upload them to their grid. Great for sharing with parents! #tlap
A5: We use @Seesaw as digital learning portfolios & to share. Ss reflect on learning in relation to the WALT, WILF & WAGOLL, giving self and peer Tickled Pink & Green for Growth feedback. Ss also have specific goals for reading, writing & math which they track & reflect on. #tlap
A5: We have been using @Seesaw and created a folder called "Data Tracking". Students can post pictures of their work, track their progress, and use this space to reflect. We have been having a lot of convos about what positive reflection looks like/sounds like. #tlap
A6. “ True leaders are those that are the best for the team and not focused on being best on the team” - develop teacher leaders and build capacity #TLAP
I get to #CelebrateMonday at #iste19?!? YESSSS!! Kindness sometimes needs calibrating - love that you were able to have that redirection with a student! So important! #tlap
A6 As a mom and a teacher, I always want to take care of others and put them first. That is a great quality to have, but I've realized that I need to take care of myself, too. Need a mental health day? Take it. You, and your students, will be better off for it! #tlap
A6: I learned to be choose your #oneword2018 carefully! I chose #vulnerability and I definitely had LOTS of opportunities to put that one word to the test. As a result, it grew me by leaps and bounds. Yay for strength in weakness. #tlap
A6: I learned the importance of self care. We can push and push and push ourselves, but if you don’t take care of yourself and step back at times you can’t bring your best you to the table. #tlap
#tlap A5: This year I had The opportunity to edit my former students' college application essays. I've known them for many years. To see how they reflected on their academic personal experiences was fascinating and enlightening!
A5: Success coaches conference with students and help them reflect on the current situation and how to improve upon that situation and outcome. Focusing on what’s under their control and what is not and how to do their best to persevere. #tlap
A5: I offer a lot of sharing opportunities as entry and exit tickets. I also do a lot more rapid Think Pair Share activities, gesturing, and use @Schoology discussions and @nearpod collaboration activities to flush out opportunities for #studentvoice .
#tlap
#tlap a6 Fifth grade daughter asked to borrow my pirate book? asked why ? She remembered how i talked about it, and she wanted to give it to her teacher, cause he was pretty good, but could be better. Growth Mindset
A6: I am stronger than I know & can handle more than I ever thought I could. I am in charge of me. I can do things that I never imagined. I learned that I should believe in myself more and I shouldn't limit myself. If I just let go & have fun, the reward is priceless. #tlap
We just started having students create a Google Site to document both reflection and growth. The idea is 6-8th grade they continue/update this learning journey. Celebrating success and growth over time. #tlap
A6: Again, the guitar! It's part of how I make time for myself. It brings me so much joy and keeps me grounded and relaxed. Ss need teachers who take care of their own body mind and spirit. #tlap
+ all G classrooms are linked to the calendar. All due dates. Go back to an old assignment, click the due date, the link in the notes will take students directly to their work. #tlap
A6 Oh my goodness... all of it! Can I get a week to discuss. Just being REAL (@TaraMartinEDU) and gamification as my big ones. Just being my authentic self. #tlap
A6: You can CHOOSE to be a culture builder or breaker. #culturize@casas_jimmy I will choose to carry the banner for @olatheschools. I truly believe we are ALL on the SAME team. Let’s celebrate our success together and help each other up when we fall. #MyOlatheSchools#tlap

A5ooooh the ways,... tomorrow, we are having a snowball fight. Respond in one sentence to this: What is your most fond memory of 2018? Lightly wad paper. Toss across the room! Unwad. Respond. What was a big challenge of 2018? Wad and toss ... etc. snowball fight ⛄️tomorrow #tlap
A4: I journal as both a form of reflections and personal goal setting. I look back at my goals and analyze what worked and didn’t work. Seeing it, doodling it, and cementing it on paper really makes me practice what I preach. #tlap
A6 I’ve learned so much this year but as I reflect on what I have learned most recently is that there is nothing more special than the love a child has to give. My grandkids reminded me of this and I will use it to keep me focused on doing what is best for kids #TLAP
A6: I learned about the power of a #pln. That I cry and lose my temper most days and don’t know how I’m going to do it again the next day, when I come on here, I am inspired and can show up and do it again. Fearlessly until 10:00 am. #tlap
A6: I learned that Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase! Following this journey one step at a time and can not wait for the adventures that 2019 will bring! #tlap
I love to have “visits to my office” from students that want to share their writing or learning with me....watching them feel safe and grow into confident successful secondary students is what it’s all about! #tlap#proudprincipal
A6: I’ve learned that great things come when we step out of our comfort zone & take risks!! In 2018, I made so many connections & learned so much bc I told a chance. Excited to say YES to new opportunities that come my way in 2019! #tlap
A6- Learned a lot about SEL practices and the power they can have in the classroom. Did our first small group SEL a few weeks back and had school APs, SRO, Guidance, and Social Worker run small SEL groups about conflict and tied into our book. Will do again next semester! #tlap
A5 countless opportunities to share your reflections in word and image form ... often with a provide sketchnote template ..
Or journaling ..
Or poetry ... poetry is the best for sharing ..#tlap
A6: In 2018, I learned how to find my voice to inspire the world. I stopped worrying about what other people might think and poured my energy in being exactly who I am meant to be in every way! 2019 will be a year to inspire and soar! #tlap
A6: I learned about @wakelet and all of its awesomeness in 2018! It’s helping me grow organizing my @Screencastify videos. #appsmash. I also learned that I am stronger than I realized. When I believe in myself- I get some good ideas! #tlap
I've learned how important it is for students to know that you care about. Healthy student/teacher relationships are a huge factor in student achievement. #parkavetigers#KidsDeserveIt#tlap
A5: I've tried to include more reflective questions about the process this year. Questions like: how did you study for the test? What can you do to improve for next time? Which strategy worked best for you? etc. #tlap
A6: knowing your self-worth is vital to your own survival. Value yourself enough to care for yourself( inside& out) so you can exude that caring energy for those around you. Your voice must be heard . #youmatter as much as everyone around you. #tlap
Awwww, thank you, my friend!
BTW: I'll be doubting every word of this tomorrow - trust me. I second guess myself all the time. But for right now, that's what 2018 taught me. #tlap
A6: I learned that if I believe in myself, & pursue my passions whole-heartedly with enthusiasm, then I can share my message & have a positive impact on others. I need to be my true self in order for others to see me. And I love the @dbc_inc books & authors insipration. #tlap
A6: I have learned that I posses an absolutely absurd amount of grit and resiliency. Both will be needed for an action packed transition filled 2019! Let’s do it! #tlap
Oh my goodness, Julie, YES! Isn't fear such a stronghold at times? Totally debilitating! I am proud of you for overcoming that barrier and rocking out your world! #tlap
A6: I learned the importance of student voice in creating a positive classroom culture! I will continue daily morning meetings and using @Flipgrid to encourage student voice in 2019! #TLAP
Gr8 reflection opps for Ss when they hit that wall: What do u do when..things don't turn out the way u planned? your prototype fails, miserably? you run out of ideas & want to quit? things are going great? Had all this in 1 day🙃 #RealLifeLearning@NASAHUNCH#GrowthMindset#PBL
A6: I learned that it is okay to speak up for things I need, want, and do or don't believe. It has been hard to find that courage -- and I still struggle with it! -- but it is something I want to continue to work on in 2019. #tlap
Can't wait to see what 2019 has in store for YOU, girly! I know a fraction...but that's just the start of something even more amazing! It's going to OWN!
#tlap (take 2 with the hashtag) ;)
A7 I commit to continuing to take risks because that is where the magic happens! In January, I will be presenting at Ignite LRSD and I hope this is just the beginning of the new risks I will take in 2019! #tlap
A6b: teaching and practice of the process is more important than product. you either succeed or you learn -sometimes you do both. that there’s a place for my flamboyant, loud, creatively mischievous, shenanigans- starting self and people appreciate and respect me for it. #tlap
A6: I learned a lot about #traumainformed and #toxicstress and I'm working on helping the rest of our families and community understand ways to help our children #tlap
First year as a grade level leader. It's harder, sometimes, to work with adults than with kids. Haha but I've learned more about leading people and will continue to work on being influential. #parkavetigers#tlap#teacherlife
A7: I will finally write that bullet journal post after I get mine set up for 2019 and I will commit to lifting up others so that we can all find a place in the sky for our stars to shine brightly! #tlap
A7- I have a few things I want to accomplish next year. All of them require me putting myself out there and taking risks. I won't be stopped by negativityor set backs! #tlap
A7: One of my 2019 goals is to get way better at content creation for Instagram. I hope you will follow there, too!!! Find me at @dbc_inc on IG. #tlap#LeadLAP

The same thing I want for all of our students: I commit to trying new things, taking risks, getting a little messy, and learning from it all. 💗🌟💗 #tlaphttps://t.co/ulyJbBl8gN
ACT: My #oneword2019 is going to be clarity to help me focus on seeing more clearly how the needs of others connect with my purpose, my why. Clarity for mindfulness, for peace, for provision. Clarity to make room for passion and JOY. Can't wait for this CLARITY journey. #tlap
A7: Being the light and sharing it. Nothing is better than a genuine compliment, a hand written note, or random acts of kindness towards others. #tlap#passionforkindness
A6: Take. Work. Email. Off. Your. Phone.
I wasn’t disconnecting, and it prevented work on passion projects: blogging, speaking proposals, content creation. When I finally unplugged, it freed up so much mental + emotional space. Looking forward to a year of CREATION in ‘19. #tlap
A7: I've got to be honest - it's going to be hard to top 2018.
I can commit to the determination & drive to do everything in my power to make 2019 even better. #tlap
A7: I will help my class assistant through student teaching (in my room) and help my campus transition to a more project based/inquiry/less curric-centric approach. Much to learn, much to do. Looking forward... #tlap
A7: I joined @WeightWatchers_. Hard to admit publicly that I have not been taking care of ME. I have committed 2 getting myself back into my long lost love = running. Exercise used 2 be a daily habit for me. I want to be a positive role model for my kids. #tlap
You are a huge reason why my 2019 will be off the charts! I am so humbled by your kindness and your ability to empower even the tiniest seed planted in others! #tlap
A7: I want to be better and more intentional with following up with my wonderful peoples! Just sending a quick email or note or a phone call to see how they’re doing with their implementations. #tlap
A7: don’t wait 2 eat until everyone is fed. Find ways 2 feed my spirit w/o sacrificing myself or my family- my daughter starts college but if I want to keep studying,Ishould. Block out time for daily yoga/meditation&exercise. Take risks that help me grow out of my comf zone #tlap
Going to contradict myself a little. When my air space is impacted by sound or really English I lose my hearing students. #brain is wired to switch that way. So space needs to be sign friendly

A7: Being the light and sharing it. Nothing is better than a genuine compliment, a hand written note, or random acts of kindness towards others. #tlap#passionforkindness

A7: Setting weekly dates with myself at my favorite coffee shop to blog and cue social media. Being intentional about how I spend my time. Reaching out to educators I admire and asking good questions. #tlap
I really like this idea... It is so hard to disconnect from our work, and having work email on our phones only makes it harder! Did you ever feel like you were missing the "important" stuff? #tlap
A7 I am committing to living my “why” everyday no matter what comes my way and living with the consequences—be they good or bad. Every day I will seek to empower my students through the power of positivity because “Every day you wake up is a good day” #tlap
A6:
I learned about the power and unlimited possibilities of collaboration through Twitter. 2019 will be my most effective year in education because of the conversations, reflections, and applications centered around my experiences with awesome educators thru Twitter.
#tlap
A6 Learning experience- I’ve been learning a lot about struggles&challenges our students face. The roads our SS travel seem to become more&more filled with twists, turns, potholes,& places to slip through the cracks. Listening{really listening)& attending to S Voice is key. #tlap
A7: I think my biggest comittment to myself and my students is to never stop growing professionally. Instead of trying to think about what to specifically do in 2019, I promise myself to ACT when it does come (whatever it may be), and not be afraid to take chances. #tlap
A7: I commit to continue taking risks & pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I'm going to keep learning to be the best me I can be, & help others be their best versions of themselves too! #tlap

Honestly, no. The stuff will still be there; my family time might not be. 💗💗 Plus, it allows me to go in stronger for my work the next day when it is time to tackle that stuff. #tlap
Thanks so much for the awesome discussion tonight, #tlap crew! And a very special thanks to @burgessdave for trusting us to steer the ship and to @nycoldidcote who moderated her first chat tonight and knocked it out of the park!
I also try not to check work email (unless it’s announced) more than three times a day. Research shows it’s a massive productivity killer. So, once in the AM, once at lunch, once before I leave. If it’s super important, they’ll ask us to check/a parent will call. #tlap
A7: I'm committing to getting a better grasp on all the different forms of social media. @buffer is my new best friend. I just need to perfect it a little bit. #tlap
I agree. My first ISTE Conference was overwhelming, too, but now it’s like a family reunion! Once you make connections with others, it’s easier to navigate the program and carve out time for sessions/people that meet your needs! #iste19#tlap

Yes- my breaking point was when I got an email that ruined my mood... right when I was about to go to sleep! Some people do their work/responses late at night, but it doesn’t mean that email is urgent. #tlap
Thank you so much! It was so awesome and I met some absolutely terrific educators along the way. I am blown away by the whole thing. Honestly. Exceeded my wildest dreams. #tlap
