Hello #txed tweeps! Paul here checking in for our chat on #ShakeUpLearning. I'm a Digital Learning Coach from Richmond, TX. Who else is joining us tonight? Take a minute to say hello.
A1: language learning! Especially for teachers of ELLs. I always try to encourage monolingual ESL teachers to formally study another language so they can empathize with their students #txed
A1: My passion is to prep students for what lies ahead, not what we have always done. We need problem solvers, communicators, collaborators...computational thinking should take the lead! #txed#soapbox
A1: I think I live and breathe reading and knowledge. I also have a passion for equity and equality of education so I tend to get really excited when talking about the work we do for kids. #txed
Equality, more so differentiation, has been a hot topic with us too lately. We are loving OneNote Class Notebook and the ability to differentiate for each student in their personal section groups of the notebook. #txed
Thanks! Every time I'm even 1 minute late to a chat I find a million tweets starting with A1 and can't find the questions so I always try to RT with my answers #txed
A2: Twitter is prob #1 for me. I love the quick hits and the searchability of hashtags. I also like blogging. Facebook is probably the worst for me mainly because I try to keep that for personal use. #txed
We think it would be a terrific service to our public good and democratic process for @DanPatrick and @CollierForTexas to debate what is best for #txed schoolchildren. We wholeheartedly endorse this open conversation. Let’s celebrate free speech— the open marketplace of ideas!
A2: I use them all. If the kids are using an app, it's almost guaranteed that I already use it. I only struggle with things like Skedula that are not user friendly and make sending and receiving messages annoying. #txed
A2a: I enjoy Twitter but have found I love putting ideas together through conference presentations & proposals - and then my blog. Taking time to reflect deeply about my work & how it might help others. My blog is at https://t.co/72hEZEO2uG (just getting started) #txed
this is a great point! Twitter is quick hitting but does not often work for deep thought. It is nice to collect your thoughts and then share at once in a post. #txed

A2b: I struggle w/ Facebook and have been really thinking about how I could use it to build relationships but probably on a different account than my family/friends one. I want to advocate and connect there but not necessarily w/ family so working on a new account. #txed
A2: ♥️♥️♥️ digital platforms of #GoogleDrive & #GoogleClassroom (this will be the 2nd year it's blocked) for SS ease of use.
Struggle w Schooligy cuz way too many steps & clicks for my SS w processing bonuses.
#txed
A1: I love to share meaningful tech with teachers that increase student engagement and quality output (ie make our jobs a little easier/more fun) #txed
A3 First thing in the morning before the day starts and then at night. I really love How chats make me feel and it’s become a huge part of my life. #txed
A3 With Voxer, I can share out whenever I have the time. Twitter is usually during the evenings after dinner. I am trying to blog every other weekend. #txed
I want to share my work, advocacy, and create connections on Facebook but today there are better platforms for networking. Facebook is really about staying connected with people you know rather than Twitter and LinkedIn where you’re growing your network. #txed
A3: I love that social media makes sharing so easy! Use the hashtag and get the ideas out there. It’s great for building community in your district but it’s also great for building a wonderful PLN. #TXed
My podcast is titled “5-minutes with the Counselor” and focuses on tips and tricks for school counselors. Each daily episode is about five minutes. Published episode 31 today. It all lives on my blog. https://t.co/J1Ir8Jsi9r
True - and then it becomes a question of quality of followers vs. quantity, and whether the platform's algorithm really gets your messages out to everyone. #txed
A3: I’m kind of a nerd. I have two alarms on my phone. One in the late afternoon to post. And one in the evening for my “professional hour.” In college, I heard a great talk about reading 1 hr a night to become an expert in your field. 🤓 I also have a prof chat planner #txed
A3: The time is always an issue. I try to have Tweetdeck open all the time so I can catch snipits here and there and am ready to share whenever. I also try to carve out time in the morning before work. #txed

#txed A3 - I have settled on a short podcast format. Doesn’t take that much time. It is very simple. I update my blog with deeper content about every six weeks.
A4: We are working on getting our students to publish their work on a Google Site. The parents can get a copy of the link and see what they have showcased. #TxED
A3: it's interesting because sharing our digitally feels like fun and not work, but sharing out in other ways feels like a chore. I participate in a lot of twitter chats and I find them relaxing, but I'll groan if I have to do a paper reflection about something #txed
A4 That gets tricky with privacy issues, but we have a Google Community. The kids get good at leaving names off and not showing faces if they know I am planning to share..hahah! #txed
A4 My students love to become “famous.” I did quotes of the day last year on Facebook. My Ss loved getting comments. They were protected but they knew. I also post their work on my twitter and fb account. #txed
A3: Always have my phone or iPad with me to snap a pic and tweet what’s going on! Parents just want to see their kids engaged, learning, and have fun! #TXed
I try to push teachers to post videos that are made to YouTube so links can be shared. These are videos with no faces...things like Chatterpix or others. Safety first. I also have a few Ts that have class blogs they post to. #txed
Q5: What does "authentic audience" mean to you? How are you, or can you, ensure that your students' works are reaching the proper, authentic, audience? #TXed
A5: The authentic audience for students should include people that the students know and respect or have the ability to make new connections through the work. #txed
A5 Authentic audience is much more than just the teacher. Parents, peers, and other Ss would provide Ss with effective and motivating feedback on their work. #txed
Q5: What does "authentic audience" mean to you? How are you, or can you, ensure that your students' works are reaching the proper, authentic, audience? #TXed
A5: Getting it online and public is the first step, whether it be a Google Doc or OneDrive Doc. Then I think it would be best to advertise via Twitter hashtags. You can reach authentic audiences then. #txed
A4: Making Google sites! Creating online forums and chats for the class. Showing them how to export and upload files to a variety of platforms and how to control what comes up when they google their names #txed
Q5: What does "authentic audience" mean to you? How are you, or can you, ensure that your students' works are reaching the proper, authentic, audience? #TXed
I also like the authentic audience to include professionals in the line of work the project deals with if possible. That is where Twitter comes in very handy. #txed
A5 Authentic audience is more than just teachers. It’s the community and how you’re perceived. Ensuring that Ss see the feedback and have an opportunity to respond and adjust is key too. #txed
A5: I really appreciate the safety measures #edtech companies are taking to ensure the right audience for our Ss. @SXSWEDU sessions talked a lot about that too, makes me feel better. I think it’s also a great lesson for Ss to think about audience & purpose of their work. #txed
A4: I love @Flipgrid to introduce Staff for 1st day of school and our @PollyRyonMS English teachers had kids create personalized back to school messages for their parents and then parents did one back to their kids! #pureawesome#TXed
Great point for authentic audiences for sharing student work. We must help Ss find connections and a network for their work. Help them make that global connection from the beginning. Great 21st century skills! #TXed
I also like the authentic audience to include professionals in the line of work the project deals with if possible. That is where Twitter comes in very handy. #txed
We have to make sure Ss know who their audience is before they start. We have had 5th graders write for Kinder classes and for fellow 5th grades. It makes quite a difference. #txed
Q6: What are examples of online projects or collaborations/activities you have done in your classroom, or heard about/plan to do, that you feel bring out the best in your students? #TXed

A6: So this year I am going to use @AdobeSpark video for students to create advocacy work through our @ProjectLIT_HOU book club and build passion project @GoogleForEdu Sites to share the entirety of their work. SUPER excited! Will be sharing at @ncte this November! #TXed
A6 My sister Skyped my third graders to talk about law and to show them what Boston looked like with Ice and snow. My parents are great about confirming stories with my Ss & I love working with other classes to build up and connect others. #txed
A6 I hope to continue quotes of the day with my students. Not only did they enjoy getting feedback but my audience loved the stories and quotes too. #txed
I don't usually listen to podcasts, but I am beginning. I had an opportunity to participate in one when a member of our #4OCFpln interviewed us on her podcast! #txed
The @LamarCISD Teaching through Technology (T3) conference is coming soon! Multiple hour-long sessions happening all day. Aug 7 at Leaman JH in Fulshear, TX. Check the site for info and to register. All are welcome! https://t.co/OqIJFtwWhe#txed
The IT Department at @DilleyISD have really got the kids going. I think the Students really enjoy it and are learning great skills. I know I look forward to seeing the weekly updates for the 18-19 school year. #TXed
