Happy Valentine's Day! It's 8:30 on a Wednesday...time for some #txed family time! This is Paul, an ITS from Richmond, TX. Who else is joining us tonight?
Happy Valentine's Day friends! Welcome to #TXed. Tonight we talk about what we love in education. Please take the next few minutes to introduce yourself to everyone.
Q1: I have only had the opportunity to teach a few times, but I love learning as I teach. Teachers should never stop learning and that is my favorite part so far! #TXed#edfb4338
#txed A1 Easy... Teaching is ALL ABOUT THE KIDS and the relationships you build with them. 28 years of making kids smile and learn. Blessed beyond measure. Love the kids and #JOY is produced. This #JOY is PRICELESS!
A1 I love inspiring, seeing the light bulb moments. I love opening their minds to become lifelong learners, teaching them HOW to think to go along with the what part. #txed
A1-I love that you can high five a student for doing great, hug a student because they are having a bad day, or make a teacher laugh when facing challenging times. #TXed
A2: I love when parents get involved because we can share in the child's growth. It also makes difficult conversations a bit easier because you have created a bond with them. #txed
I am right there with you, Sara. Keeping them involved will help the child stay motivated as well. I can imagine the excitement when a parent asks about something they did in class that day. #txed
A2: Children are proud when their parents are positively engaged in their academics. I love that children are proud to have their parent(s) involved. #TXed
A1: The. Kids. It’s all about the kids and the relationships we build with them. Helping kids see and reach ALL the potential WE see in them is what it’s all about! #txed
A2: the thing I love most about parent engagement is when you have a really tough conversation with them and your honesty builds the trust they need to get on board and help make the difference needed for their child—OUR child to be successful. #txed
A2: I love building relationships with parents and helping them learn about what their children do all day. I also love the creativity and support of our PTO #TXed
A2: the thing I love most about parent engagement is when you have a really tough conversation with them and your honesty builds the trust they need to get on board and help make the difference needed for their child—OUR child to be successful. #txed
A2: I love to see the parents’ face light up when they are in the building. We just started the Watch DOG Dad program. It’s great to see the dads with al the students. #txed
A2: honestly my favorite activity is positive phone class home I make them weekly and it is such a joy to connect the parent with the happenings in the class. ❤️ #txed
A2:) I love hearing from parents how school stuff translates at home.
One of my students said she needed a castrator... otherwise known as “calculator” #txed
A2 I love when parents tell me how they see growth, or their child is excited about what they learned, or they are motivated to do more. I love the teamwork. #txed
#txed A2 When parents hear from your Ss the fun and joy they have in your room you will get notes like this. #Toupsisms#ToupsStories bringing smiles to your Ss will carry over to the parents. I even involve the parents in my #BelieveSelfies
A2: I love that parents can instantly like and respond to student’s work through @Seesaw! My students get so excited when it happens during the school day! #TXed
A2: I love when I see and hear parents taking the time to validate and appreciate the things their children are learning in school! Children want to know their parents care about what they say and do! #TxEd
A2b-Want more engagement... make sure you are highlighting all the great stuff that goes on at your school through social media! #makethembelievers#TXed
A3: Our distict utilizes Facebook and Twitter very well, I think, for parent involvement. The webpage is updated every day as well. This keeps everyone in the loop. #txed
A3: I use @ClassDojo. It has been an amazing tool for parent communication. I love that I can share pics of their children working. I love that I can send reminders. It has really allowed me to build a great repitoire with my parents. #TXed
A3: Twitter, a class website, and a visible presence in the community. Show up for their games, performances, and birthday parties. When we’re involved, they’re involved. #txed
A3: A3: I use @ClassDojo. It has been an amazing tool for parent communication. I love that I can share pics of their children working. I love that I can send reminders. It has really allowed me to build a great rapport with my parents. #TXed
A3: we created a school newspaper where we sell ads to local companies and in turn it pays for our newspaper. This keeps the lines of communication open to parents, the community, and the school. #txed
A3: Social Media! We started the #LearnItLeadIt video challenge and post student submitted videos of a concept they’ve learned so well they can lead it to our social media pages #txed
Do you utilize the 2-way communication much with Dojo? I was always concerned that a conversation between teacher and parent could escalate there. #txed
ICYMI: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued cease and desist letters to three Texas school districts he says are conducting "unlawful electioneering." https://t.co/joxEY295bA#txed
#txed A3 This is kind of a theme of my book that will be released this fall. How I inspired Dayton, TX and now the GRHS family to #AlwaysBelieve through #FridayNightLights So blessed to be able to do this.
@ EmpowerTexans For the record, I am #blowingthewhistle. Dan Patrick lies. Paxton is a criminal. Teachers will vote for candidates that care about the 5.4 million children and their teachers in this state, regardless of a cease and desist threat. #blockvote#TXLege#txed
A3-Facebook and Twitter religiously for @PollyRyonMS! Tweet it Tuesday’s and Thursdays! Parents love seeing their kids! (Hint: I do too...invest in a selfie stick for morning dance parties)😁 #TxED
A4: We show we love through service learning. Just this week we got these pictures from Germany after sending #kindness from our kitchens to our deployed #military. Ss made Valentines which made these servicemen and women smile! #txed
A3: I love spreading the amazing things we are doing on Twitter with the community! We need to change the narrative of education! Spread it for all to hear! #txed
A3: also we have to toot our own horn to spread the good going on in our communities! We invited the media to an event recently and they showed up! Houston Chronicle and two local papers! #txed
A4: this month we are doing something once a week for all our staff. Small treat, lunch, jeans for the month and a few treats they don’t know about yet. #txed
A3: I love spreading the amazing things we are doing on Twitter with the community! We need to change the narrative of education! Spread it for all to hear! #txed
A4: One way our community shows love throughout the district is through our @LEAFGrants foundation. They award hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to teachers for grants. Unbelievable program thanks to @Janice1502#txed
A4 Our PTA gives us treats and lunches throughout the year. We get items in our boxes too. We have Warm up days to wear sweats and comfy clothes, free planning days, staff shoutouts, and a lot of different avenues to show love #txed
A4: Valentine’s day is always a great day for me because my students shower me with gifts and more importantly love! It is a great day to be a teacher! #txed
A3b: We also use YouTube and FB to share what we're doing in our #character building. Here's a clip of a 4th grade class role playing the difference between #equality and #equity that we share. https://t.co/2JzVmcXNk7#txed
A4: Its the conversations! Future students hug me, high 5 me and have their moms stop their cars in the pick up line for a “hello”, a high 5 and a smile. And those hugs! I’m learning Spanish and they help me! We laugh but they appreciate my effort.#txed
A4: with little things...coffee, notes of appreciation...but the best love is when a student comes back and says...you were the difference...you mattered to me. As teachers we may not change the world but to one person you might mean the world. #txed
A4: I’ve never felt love like the love Brenham showed during Harvey relief. This small town has a really big heart. Just another reason #IChooseBrenham#TXed
A4-Being is a servant leader means that appreciation might not be seen until years later. I do this because the seeds I plant today will become the great forest of tomorrow. #TXed
A4: We have an amazing Ryon Community Organization and parents that spoils our staff and is always willing to donate to help create magic for our kids! #txed#blessed#candybar#tacotuesdaytreat
A4: My admin are my biggest cheerleaders & supporters. There is no greater way to show love than to believe in someone and make it known. (@PaulaMaeker@CschmidtChad yeah, that’s you!) #txed
A4: I think we do a great job showing the love everyday. From morning car/bus arrival to afternoon car/bus dismissal and everything in between, we are greeting everyone with a high five, smile, good morning shout-out, or a hug! I think parents and students can feel the love #Txed
A4b: It also feels amazing to receive love. We have felt incredible compassion from comfot cards from ALL of the places on this map after #hurricaneharvey flooded the homes of 65 of our kiddos and 12 of our staff. #KindnessMatters#txed
A5 My teaching partner stepped up to teach full time when the teacher that she shared a job with had to unexpectedly retire at the beginning of the year! I love that she will do whatever it takes to help our Ss! #txed
A5: Our secretary and myself have gotten very close! I love that she can see if I'm feeling overwhelmed! She always knows just how to get my mind back on track! Couldn't do it without her! #TXed
When you forget to buy something for February birthdays and your partner has you covered. When you show up to work with a cute new bag with post it’s inside. When you get sticky notes with warm fuzzies. #TXed
A5: I love that my partner assistant principal is always willing to try new things and take a risk with me. I also love that she has a different perspective and thinks of things I wouldn’t. I heart you @jclements01 ! #txed
Which political party has a platform of common sense gun law reforms? Which party will vote to fully fund public ed? Yes, we all know, it is the Democratic Party! #Getwoke and be a part of the #BlueWave2018 in #TXED
Don't forget-they used funder-supplied "blueprints" by targeting students w disabilities, perpetuating the false notion of "choice" 4 "those kids." As parents, educators, students & advocates, we are united & stand strong 4 TX public schools. #NoAccessNoChoice#txed@TXlege#SPED
As anti-public education candidates lie to you this election season about how much they love teachers, remember that the Texas Senate held funding hostage with vouchers. Translation? “We starve your schools unless you let us privatize them.”
A5: My staffamily is the best! They are CRAZY...willing to try anything... and funny as they come! They make my day and proud to be on their team! #TXed
A6: At school I go into an ALE classroom or a classroom of littles so I can be reminded of the beauty in my career and the innocence of children . At home, a pedicure wins hands down! #txed
#heymike did you know @timdunntexas private school tuition & fees are $11k vs. the $6800 #txlege taxpayer voucher you want for families you say you want to help. Who pays the difference? That’s why the TX Constitution created #txed public schools. #blowingthewhistle@MQSullivan
#txed A6 Trs need to have an emotional and physical release from the stress involved in working with the Ss. I love golfing (I walk when I golf and get QUALITY quite time) I love photography, videography, and even WRITING! I even wrote a book that will be published this fall.
A6: when I need to get away from the world, the news the negativity...the violence...I get up and to get away from it all....I do it by going to teach knowing I can change tomorrow. This isn't a job I want to escape from it's my life and passion for being. ❤️ #txed
Great chat tonight folks! Don't forget to give any new friends a follow. Grow that #PLN. Check out the new #TXed website as well to offer up any ideas you have for a chat topic: https://t.co/1bsKTg9ANF
A6: We love family time! Here I am trying downhill with my son as we celebrated his college graduation. Nothing better than connecting while we're stretching and growing. #txed
Years ago, the state covered about 75% of school costs. According to the Texas Education Agency and the Legislative Budget Board, by 2019 the state will cover just 38% of school funding and property taxpayers will be forced to pick up the rest. #txlege#txed
