Run by Iowa educators, #IAedchat is on Twitter the first, second, and third Sundays each month at 8:00pm CST. We have added #IAedchat LIVE to the fourth Sunday of the month at 8:00pm CST. This will take place in Google Hangout on Air. We will share the invitation and link to #IAedchat LIVE each month.
A1: Be thankful for those that support you and make sure they know it...offer socials, cook pancakes before school, and deliver cookies are just a few things we did last week. #IAedchat
A1: Thankful for the people in our midst and how we can serve each other to serve each child. Bringing joy to work each day because we have the best jobs in the world if we work with kids. Give back and do it with joy. #iaedchat
A1. the "attitude of gratitude" is contagious. Never let someone see you complain. Always thanking people and point out the positives. Create a culture of positives and the negatives become fewer! #iaedchat
A1 an attitude of gratitude at school to me means building up others daily, offering to support each and every day and serving with a grateful heart. #iaedchat
A1: Every opportunity I get to interact with kids making good choices and ESPECIALLY those kids making not so good decisions. Every conversation is an opportunity! #iaedchat
A1. Important to start and end each day with a positive thought, what I appreciate in my job, and one thing I am grateful for at the end of the day. There are always those little happy moments even during a bad day. #iaedchat

Great reminder, Dan. In the moment is key. We get caught up in all that we have to do that it can be easy to forget how great the people are who surround us. #iaedchat
A1: Gratitude for having great students to work with on a daily basis. Gratitude for having supporting co-workers and aids. Being grateful that I have the opportunity to help others on a daily basis! #IAedChat
A2: Be positive and stay the course - it can be a long year if we try and go it alone. Each D13 staff member makes important contributions to our daily success. #iaedchat
A2: Practice having an attitude of gratitude by setting aside time to be thankful with daily reflections of gratitude through letters, notes, actions, and words. #IAedChat
A2: I am a huge fan of modeling what you expect...I plan on saying a whole lot of thank yous this work week. It is also important to give those you lead time to do the same. #IAedchat
A2 ask the kids...hearing their perspective on the great things surrounding us is infectious! Spread that joy with video interviews with anyone that will listen! #iaedchat
The beginning from the excitement/goosebumps/nervousness to the end when it’s bittersweet. My goal is to keep the momentum all term— never have an off day & keep kids emotionally invested. #IAedChat
A2. Be intentional about modeling gratitude. Let others see how we do it. Have conversations with Ss and Ts about expressing gratitude. Extend gratitude to the Ss...tell them how much we appreciate their work and individuality. #iaedchat
A2: Weekly Thank You Notes (inspired by @jimmyfallon ) We put on the music and students write a thank you note every Friday. I participate as well. #iaedchat
A2: Every day is a new day with its own opportunity. Sometimes it’s hard, but it’s important to bring a great attitude to the classroom and into your conversations with colleagues every day. #iaedchat
A2: Celebrate the awesome things happening throughout the school. Celebrate our staff. Make sure everyone gets celebrated at some point. Build the culture kids need on a daily basis. #iaedchat
In our school system, we use the story of the Orange Frog. In helping to continue spreading positivity, kindness, and gratitude throughout the school year! #iaedchat
A2: A timely question for me - was just thinking of how I can use the gifts I’ve been given better than what I am. Going to try to do bi-monthly Shout Out Videos highlighting teachers and students after Thanksgiving. #IAedChat
A2: Good News Post Cards home show parents and students how much you appreciate them and their hard work in class. I gotta send two this week, right @JBacon23 😉 #iaedchat
A3: “A negative thinker sees a difficulty in every opportunity. A positive thinker sees an opportunity in every difficulty.”
-Zig Ziglar
Search for the opportunity rather than the difficulty. #IAedChat
A3: The power of positive thought and functioning under the realm of a growth mindset are a good start. Also keeping a folder of TY's you have received over the years and reviewing every now and then seem to help combat the negatives. #IAedchat
Instead of catching kids out being naughty, rather catch kids out being nice. If a child does something like sharing, caring, being kind, helping, working constructively, cleaning up...anything good, thank them. Focus on the things you like to see more of. #iaedchat
A3. Be intentional about publicizing and identifying the positive. This will allow us to notice...but not dwell on the negatives. As adults in the school...If we dwell on the negatives, the kids will too. #iaedchat
A3 make celebrations loud and interactive-encourage others to celebrate with us. This will get others to purposely find happiness in their own celebrations. Drown the negative, Happy on purpose. #iaedchat
A3: Its hard to be positive with students and colleagues if your always dwelling on the negative. Change your mindset. I admit, this is something I’m constantly working to better at. #iaedchat
We’re going to start sharing more photos on #IAedChat to get to know one another more! :)
Share a photo of someone or a group of someones you are thankful for!
A2: Weekly Thank You Notes (inspired by @jimmyfallon ) We put on the music and students write a thank you note every Friday. I participate as well. #iaedchat
A3. If I find myself getting negative, I stop and mentally ask myself, what is my focus. I remind myself that negative does not solve anything, it just spreads more negativity. #iaedchat
A3. Instead of voicing complaints at a meeting, try complimenting one another on the things you have observed each other doing in the clsm, etc. #iaedchat
These Bobcat loving boys pull me back to my why! I can give my best every day because my Benton peeps are always giving their best for my boys! Grateful to work here, grateful to raise my family here #bentoncsd#iaedchat

A4: Having gratitude makes people want to be around you and creates an environment where people are more productive because you acknowledge all that they do. #IAedchat
A4 A grateful heart is a thankful heart. Being present is more than just being there; it’s about opening your heart and being all in, all day! #IAedChat
A3: Not to mix religion and education, but there is a Good Book that I try to read each morning and it screams love and sacrifice. That helps me to do my job better at school. #IAedchat
A4: This one is a priority check for me. Often times my family gets the short end of the stick. I’m usually present at school, not always present at home due to my mind being on school. #IAedchat

Thank you idea for other teacher, guest speaker, birthday child etc. Each child writes a thank you message on one petal of the flower. #iaedchat Printable petals can be found here https://t.co/aQeyK3kfvI Why not have the class make a flower for the principal and other teachers?
A5: I would respond with...how well do you like your job and how well do others like working with you? Gratitude goes a long way and is essential to a productive environment. #IAedchat
A5: Attitude is a small thing makes a big difference (Stole that from somewhere). Students have the uncanny ability of knowing exactly who truly cares and who is putting on a front. #iaedchat
A5: Give them some authentic examples of why I am thankful for that them. Respond to doubters by modeling how great it is to be on the receiving end of gratitude. #iaedchat
A5. I submit: without meeting the needs of the kids with the "low-leverage work" and "fluff" even the best of instructional practices are less efficient and effective. #iaedchat

A5: Scientifically proven that positive brains are more efficient, effective, creative, and higher functioning than negative or neutral brains. Being positive is literally a competitive edge. #iaedchat

I agree whole heartedly...Unfortunately, I have been told these "fluff" items detract from instructional-time. I don't buy it...Sadly, some teachers have this mindset.
#iaedchat
A5. I see these two working together. When we are really passionate about something we are grateful for those who have helped us, we are grateful for what we have. We need to help others find their passion. #iaedchat

Years ago, a student asked me, “Mr. Duffy, why are you always in a good mood? It’s annoying.” Positivity and attitude can be contagious (not always for sophomores at 8:20 am). She was having a blast by the end of class. #iaedchat
I'm thankful that I have an administrator that knows the power of these and realizes they are just as important as content during instructional time. #iaedchat
A6: I would take a page out of @DuffysClassroom book and model the heck of being positive and expressing your thanks for the contributions of others. #iaedchat
How do you respond to those who would say gratitude is all “fluff” and low-leverage work? #IAedchat By thanking them for their contribution, of course! As a leader, be thankful when clients/teachers are disgruntled and tell you so, you still have a chance to engage with them.
A6: A hand written thank you goes a long way...I need to do this more. Give teachers time to give a positive phone call home. Have students write two thank yous and deliver to staff. #IAedchat
A6 showing them real examples of reasons to be grateful, get them to fall in love with the power of storytelling. I was so happy to share this experience with my kinders to build empathy and understanding! https://t.co/opqzbI8C7X#iaedchat
Ha! Thanks Jon. We get what we give, right?! I still annoy them by singing on the announcements in the morning but they miss it when I’m gone. Catch fire with enthusiasm and people will come to watch you burn. #iaedchat
Sounds simple, but a wise mentor of mine said that until you start modeling the behaviors you want to see, don’t expect change to happen on its own. #IAedChat
A6: challenge the kids, those you work with&yourself to thank someone for helping you get where you are today. @Joe_Sanfelippo suggested this at a recent Professional Development we had&it not only them feel good but you feel good letting them know they are appreciated!#IAedchat
Depends on the month. For November, we are making a giant thankfulness tree in the hallway adding to it daily. For December, we are going to send a message to each classroom of gratitude (1 per a day) and to support staff. #iaedchat
I am learning so much from teachers and administrators currently in the field during my first #IAedchat! Today's topic is gratitude and how we can extend this idea beyond the holiday season. #UNIetd thank you for introducing me to this opportunity!
A6. Like what many others have said, I need to write notes and tell others directly my gratitude to them. There is a lot of power behind a hand-written note, even in the tech world we live in today. #iaedchat
I am so blessed to have a PLN chuck full of such passionate educators that join us each week on #IAedChat to learn together. So thankful. Blessed beyond measure.
When there is trust, the person receiving the gratitude/thanks will know that the gratitude IS the present, not just the wrapping around something else the person giving it, wants. It should be genuine and sincere. Then it is powerful beyond words. #IAedChat
I have this quote taped to my desk. Very important to focus on the present and be grateful for what you already have. #positivethinking#iaedchat#grateful
Before you leave tonight, show someone you’re thankful for learning with them tonight by following them. Also - give a shoutout to someone you’re thankful for! #IAedChat
My shoutout tonight goes to @MissD_Kinders for pushing my thoughts every day...so grateful to have you as a partner! Thanks for choosing to be a Bobcat! #iaedchat
A7: Always appreciative of what I have, the opportunities I've been given, and the people in my life. I tell myself often that I am enough and I have enough. #iaedchat
A6 showing them real examples of reasons to be grateful, get them to fall in love with the power of storytelling. I was so happy to share this experience with my kinders to build empathy and understanding! https://t.co/opqzbI8C7X#iaedchat
If you look at what you have, you will see how much you have to be grateful for in your life. If you are always looking at what you don't have, you will never be satisfied with your life. Power of positivity! #iaedchat
We need to give our at-risk students a reason to be in school. The relationships we g out of our way to build make all the difference. Sometimes we need to make concessions for "fluff" and make the school climate a place kids want to be! #iaedchat
Be thankful for what’s in front of you and the opportunities that comes your way. If you continuous guess “what if,” you’ll never have the satisfaction of what’s here. #iaedchat
I’m grateful for the passion from tonight’s participants and thankful for my partners in moderating @danpbutler and @ColinWikan! Follow new friends to grow your #IAedChat PLN!
Thankful for the passionate educators who guide the minds of kids. Thankful for my wife who is the parent I hope to be. Thankful for my dad who is the dad I hope to be. Thankful for the kids & staff I get to be w/daily as they inspire me to be the leader I hope to be. #iaedchat
Thanks #iaedchat I get to share all that I am grateful for at conferences tomorrow night with lots of #KFkinders families! Excited for a night of celebrations. Thanks for the energy boost heading into the week!
I am thankful for all the students and co-workers I have been blessed to work with over all the years. They have made me the teacher and person that I am today. #iaedchat
