I feel like I’ve hit a block when it comes to reading fluency. I’ve done the same handful of fluency activities for a while and need some inspiration. What do your kids do in your classroom to work on this skill? #1stchat
#GEN2108#1stChat What is one of your favorite techniques you have implemented in the classroom this year that you were nervous to use but had a positive outcome in the end?
We are starting to push fluency also. I will be starting Fluency Friday! Ss will choose a reading material, whom they will read with, how to perform. Practice for a week & share on Friday. #1stChat

I see you're talking fluency. I love Reader's Theater. It is my morning work, they practice their scripts all week and perform for class on Fridays. Always great success. #1stChat
@lekadegroot have you used technology in the classroom to connect globally with other teachers and if so do you have a favorite memory or technique you learned? #GEN2108#1stChat
I do hands & eyes, mirror, Teach-Okay, Class-Yes, air punctuations, etc. The ss use these when they are in front of the class as well as when they are running a morning meeting. #1stChat
Yes. Or Google Hangout. One class is Sam, one is Dog and the third class listens. We switch roles. Super fun! My class will practice the whole week then connect on Friday. #1stChat
Terry, I think that is great that you collaborate with other classrooms through Skype, Skype is an excellent Web tool that is very easy to use but can have a great impact on the students when used to connect outside the classroom! #GEN2108#1stChat
So many great things to involve our Ss in! My Ss were just asking for another mystery number last week #1stChat
can't wait for My Father's Dragon book club
Our state helped us when we did ours, then they also reward financially. Now there is no help, and no reward. Honestly, that is why I couldn't do it again. It is an awesome process. #1stChat
It's called Whole Brain Teaching. We mainly use it as attention grabbers:) Ex. If I say "Class" they say "Yes" "Class, Class" "Yes, yes" Powerful when ss can use it when they are in front leading. So not just for Ts. #1stchat
Sad to say, that's my reason also! I know they reimburse up to $2000 AFTER you are done. Sounds like an amazing process and one that districts would like to have Ts go through. #1stchat
It is a very reflective process. You submit something like a portfolio of lessons and other artifacts, but each step is about truly reflecting. There is also an assessment. (if it hasn't changed) #1stChat
@lekadegroot has a sign up and organizes this, we read 1 chapter a day then use Twitter and other sources to share our class thoughts on the chapter of the day. #1stchat

Personally a great professional development through the process, just how it pushes you to look at yourself as an educator. But it was looked at also as a teacher leader/mentor. If we used it to lead, we were compensated as well. But that is no longer. #1stchat
Any #1stchat out there that have never done a @DonorsChoose project before? Let me know if you are interested in getting things for your classroom and I can help you w your first donation!

I learned so much from following along with #1stchat tonight! Teachers shared instructional techniques such as whole brain learning as well as new ways to use technology in the classroom, including using Google Hangout to connect and partner with other classrooms! #ED500KLK7
we are completing our historical figure research and Ss will now make a bottle person and then chatterpix their writing like their bottle is telling their biography, maybe leprechaun traps?? #1stchat
Hmmm... when did you get email? I saw something on Twitter the other day that made me wonder if we could sign up too, but haven't seen anything yet #1stchat

We have this coming up too, but our publishing date isn't until May something. I tried it for the first time last year and loved our final product! #1stchat
I think thinking about what has been going on in our schools, it just makes me think how important we are, how important our relationships with our kids are. Tuned me into what is important. #1stChat
